Lucas has had his share of unpleasentries recently. Especially in tangential dealings with the labs. Next time he wakes up, there is a suspicious, large, swollen lump on your right arm.
What follows within minutes of waking is a rolling dizziness as your changes wash over you. Your face starts first and continues through most of the change - distracting you for better or worse with its pain, sinuses crying out in pain as your face becomes totally inhuman.
Meanwhile, your arms lengthen, taking on more canine qualities, and your feet become fully digitigrade. While Lucas winds up much luckier than some of the canines on the island, the predominence of the canine DNA in his system does leave him more animalistic in build than many of the other noncanine islanders with an ambipedal build that allows you to walk upright or on all fours.
