"I know... I know," Gaius sighed. "It's hard... but that's all the more reason why we should stand up against them! After all, that's what the heroes always do! Where'd Luke Skywalker be if he didn't stand up to Darth Vader, even though he chopped off one of his hands?" He reached out a hand, intending to pat Newt on the shoulder, but ended up getting some part of his back or head, it was hard to tell. "Just start small. Small acts of bravery! And don't worry, you've got friends to back you up if anything happens!"

"M-maybe... m-maybe I c-could... c-could end a l-little earlier... M-maybe... w-when I'm d-done here? W-would they n-notice, do you th-think?" He began carefully. He knew the names of the characters from hearing them so often in the media and word of mouth, but he had never seen Star Wars himself. He was bright enough to understand Gaius' meaning regardlessly. "If... y-you n-needed a hand? M-maybe... s-since I w-worked so hard all d-day... it w-would be alright to... h-help out afterward? I have a f-few... s-small t-tools m-myself, but I c-can't let them s-stray or... I'll g-get in t-trouble...."

"That's the spirit!" Gaius beamed encouragingly. However, the smile was short-lived. "Though... I don't think much is going to get done today. Not without any lumber, at any rate. But you should still take the time off! Do your own thing, work on the curtain, just as long as it's not something for the labs!"

"As for me... I'm going to have to find a way to get the stuff back. Not looking forward to that..." he grumbled.

"Even... if y-you c-can't..." Newt fidgeted, his own eyes becoming adjusted to the dark. When the door would open again, his pupils would have been dilated to the size of baseballs. "I'm s-sure we can th-think of something...!" He fidgeted with the plastic of his badge, not needing to see the photo on it to think about what it represented. He didn't want to be that man anymore. "M-m-m-mmuh-maybe... maybe I sh-should quit. He... he d-didn't r-really... say w-what would happen..."

"You should. Who's going to treat you like the man you are if you don't stand up for yourself?"

With that, Gaius found the doorknob and gave it a turn, cracking it open. The light that poured in from the dim game room was almost blinding after the black closet.

Gaius winced, ears flattening back. Great, time to face reality.

Newt's own large eyes were nearly completely black when the light hit them, and it stung terribly when the door opened again. He staggered back against the shelves with a ribbit, shielding his face until his eyes could adjust again achingly slow, "I... I... r-right." He leaped out of the closet as quickly as possible, not wanting the cameras to notice them emerging before he hurried back to his pinball machine, "And... t-tell the others... I g-got the one... b-broken p-pinball m-machine to w-work again f-finally."

Gaius gave Newt a thumbs-up and grin. "Keep strong, pal! We'll get through this!"

"And I'm sure Liamh and Marshall will be thrilled to hear that."

Turning his back on the frog, Gaius headed out into the hall, walking upright, until he turned down the hall and was out of sight. Then he slumped against the wall and groaned, resting the side of his head and neck against the cool surface. "Why me...." There was no helping it... The labs had taken any possibility of getting around the missing items. Now it was either abandon the project or face... something. He wasn't sure what, but he had a good idea. And that meant finding his least-favorite islander.

NEW RP

It had been too long since he'd been out. He had been too fearful and too much of a wreck to consider going out among people. There were plenty of reasons why he didn't want to go out. But it was near impossible to find enough distraction in his duplex. He'd read every book, magazine and comic he had now. There was always the option of calling the labs to send him more, but since the...incident, he had cut off all contact. He hadn't even requested an eyepatch. All that kept the world from seen his stitched eyelid were the bangs Emelyn had cut and styled to hang over his left eye. It drew less attention than big, white bandages covering his head.

He wanted to do something. What, he wasn't sure. There was always just going for a walk, but it wasn't enough for him right now. He needed a distraction. For only a moment he considered going to the Entertainment room to watch a movie or play a video game, but that place could only remind him of what had happened there, what he had done and lost. There was no way he could find distraction there.

On his walks through the village he seemed to recall a building titled "The Recreation Room". Perhaps there was something there he could find to do?

Making up his mind, he exited his duplex and walked in a hurry to the building. Less chance of bumping into someone. Before he stepped into the Recreation room he peeked in, made sure that it was empty, at least of one particular Islander, and stepped in. Scanning the room, he searched for a game that appealed to him.

While the Penguin hadn't had nearly as bad of a time as Lucas had suffered, he couldn't help but feel a little bit stressed out. He didn't want to be in his duplex more than he had to, especially since the April Fool's thing.

Oh well...At least my Birthday is coming up... Marshall though, slowly making his way towards the Entertainment Room from the Cafeteria, munching on a lime Popsicle yet again. He wasn't particularly hungry, nor did he really want to watch a movie, but still: he had to keep himself occupied, less he go insane. He looked up, just in time to see some fluffy orange thing enter the Arcade.

"Oh yeah...I forgot we had this..." he murmured, slowly entering, seeing the orange fuzzy thing again.

"...Yo." he said to it, raising a flipper in an odd attempt to wave.

When Marshall entered, Lucas had his right side facing the door. Something he counted as luck. Turning a little, he spotted the penguin and the gears in his head started. He'd seen this person before. He was sure he had. Unfortunately name nor place were coming to mind.

"Uh, hello." He lifted his own hand in response to his greeting.

He fidgeted as he walked along the pool table, one hand gripped the edge, the other now hanging back at his side. Should he stay? Should he go? It would be rude if he just suddenly walked out. There was no reason to do that. Even though he couldn't remember this person, he felt like he wasn't anyone to be concerned about.

Sighing, he couldn't believe how edgy he was.

"Erm...Hey, you're...Um...From the construction site, right?" Marshall said, recognizing the orange wolf-thing, but unable to remember his name or much else, "I'm Marshall, by the way...I don't think we've ever really been introduced." Marshall said, holding out his flipper.

"I was the idiot who got his arm broken." Marshall said, as if he needed to prove he was who he claimed.

"Hmm? Oh, yeah. I helped out there a few times." That was it. He'd met Marshall at the construction site. But not during any of the times they'd worked. It had been at that drinking party. There were some parts her remember. Others were hazy. But he did recall him now. "I remember you now. You're Gaius' friend. We sort of met each at that drinking party. My name is Lucas."

Though he did recall Marshall now, he didn't recall seeing him in a cast. "You broke your arm? I hadn't heard about that."

"Oh? Um, yeah...See, Oz? Giant British guy? His second change didn't go so well...He kind of freaked out and dropped a board on me. But hey, its all better now." he said, flexing his left arm. As if it actually had some definition to it.

"Lucas, huh? Damnit, between you and Gaius I'm the only one with a lame name! No justice in this world I tell ya!" Marshall said, pretending to be annoyed, slowly becoming his light-hearted self.

"Sooo...Whatcha here for? Mortal Kombat? DDR? The shootin' game over there?"
PostPosted: Mon Apr 23, 2007 8:38 pm

The gorilla, Oz. Lucas' only exposure to the man had not been a good one. He'd managed to rub him the wrong way at the drinking party with his jabs at the other dog-man. It hadn't been directed toward him, but it still didn't sit well with him.

"When does a change go well?" He laughed dryly, then quickly followed it up with an apology. "Er, sorry." That type of humor might not go over well, the guy did get his arm broken.

He looked around at his options. "I don't really know." Should he try the shooting game? Test out his aim now that he was down an eye? At least over the time he'd locked himself in his duplex he got better at coping with his depth perception. But mostly because he'd started to memorize his rooms layout and measured how close or far away things were to him from different points.

He walked past the air hockey table and stared at it. This certainly brought back memories. Good ones, thankfully. "Do you..." He had been tempted to ask the man if he wanted to play, but stopped himself.

"Sure." Marshall replied merrily, not even waiting for Lucas to finish his whole sentence. He rolled up his sleeves, trying to look as "bad a**" as a penguin in an arcade playing Air Hokey can be. He finally saw Lucas' whole face, seeing that he seemed to be missing an eye, hiding it behind his bangs.

Oh...Ow...Wondered what happened...

"So, classic arcade rules? Loser pays for Pizza?" Marshall giggled, picking up the puck.
