It wasn't any trouble to find his way around in the day, at least around here, so it didn't take him long before he was satisfied he'd avoided the Pokemon; at least he assumed it had been one. I'll head back, and everything will... Hayes thought to himself, drifting off as he heard another noise. He looked around and spotted the disturbance. It was a Beautifly, and it looked like it was attempting to get something on the ground? ...be fine. He finished the thought, attempting to take a step back as he reached for a Pokeball. The Pokemon must've heard him, however, as it flapped it's wings and looked around for a moment before it's eyes landed on him.
"Of course I'd run into something." Hayes said, but he didn't actually mind a Beautifly. He expanded the Pokeball in his hand after he'd grabbed it, and tossed it into the open space. "Alright, Bulbasaur, it's your turn." He said as it materialized, glad to see it again. It nodded in response, but otherwise kept an eye on the Pokemon it'd been called out to battle. Beautifly elevated itself a little higher in the air and brought itself in closer, but didn't get too close to it's opponent. The battle wasn't too long, but it was well fought; Bulbasaur used Leech Seed on it and didn't have too much trouble in wearing Beautifly down as it tried to wittle away at it's health, and eventually it ended with another tackle after Beautifly attempted to use it's string to slow it down and put some distance between them. It didn't surprise him as much anymore, but Bulbasaur was still as impressive as always.

Before Hayes left to find something by a nearby tree, Teddy heard him mention about meeting a Munchlax. Teddy had always been amazed by the Snorlax line. How they could consume so much in such little time and he had heard rumours of their impressive swimming ability. Teddy had swam with all kinds of Pokemon in his time. He had one swam with a cusp of Mantine around the Whirl Islands, he drifted along with a colony of Tentacool. However he had never really swam with a Pokemon not of the water typing. He thought about his current team and as much as he adored them, he couldn't imagine any of them except from Wani-Wani excelling at swimming. "Man I wish I found a Munchlax. Instead I'm getting all these leafy worms" Teddy sighed wistfully. His new Houndour looked up at him and whimpered. "I'm sorry girl. You know I don't mean it like that." he said, scratching behind her ears. As he saw Hayes head into forest he decided it might be easier for him to wander back to camp.

After he'd finished battling it didn't take long before he made it back, a short trip despite the detour he'd taken.
"I'm back, and it didn't take me all night." He announced, giving a half-hearted wave to the two of them as he approached. He made his way over to the bag he'd left behind and picked the over-shirt off of it and tossed it over his shoulder, pulling up the sleeves on his undershirt after he had. After it was off the bag, he knelt down and checked the Pokeballs that he still hadn't picked up yet and cleaned off any of them if they needed it, but they weren't too bad.
After he'd gotten everything in place, he turned around and looked over at them, wondering if they were ready to go as well. It was early, but they'd already spent a night in the forest and he didn't feel like another... not after last night. "And I think I'm ready to get going, if we're all ready?" He asked.

Matt had packed all of his stuff back into his bag by the time Hayes had returned. He stood up and lifted the pack onto his back and double-checked all his Pokeballs. Mudkip was currently out, with Bulbasaur and Sableye (as far as he knew) resting in their balls, and the fainted Pikachu and Aipom as well. Looking at the others with a well-rested grin, he was ready. "I'm ready to head further in when you guys are. I have no idea how large this forest is, but we have to be getting close to Pewter by now." Matt said, feeling like they had been in the forest longer than they actually had.

It looked like Matt was ready to get going, at least. He commented on the size of the forest and Hayes agreed inwardly, thinking it couldn't be that far until they made it to the end of it. He looked in the direction of Teddy after Matt had answered, expecting another reply, but instead found himself distracted as he noticed a red light against a tree up and behind him; it disappeared after a moment, however, and Hayes assumed it'd been Rotom. It hadn't appeared since it had given him a shock and flown away, when they'd been on their way back to pick up all their stuff. He'd been around it for long enough to know it'd be back at some point, even if it appeared to be keeping at a distance at the moment.
I guess it did help... He thought, as strange as it was to acknowledge it.

Hayes soon returned and both he and Matt mentioned they were about done with Viridian Forest. Teddy agreed wholeheartedly, it felt like they had been wandering around through the trees for months. The experience had been worthwhile though, he met his new Houndour, his Caterpie had evolved into a Metapod and he had encountered so many new Pokemon that he had never even seen before.
His mind drifted back to his nightmare and the house that wouldn't stay in one place and often handed him various items. The event had left him somewhat shaken, but he had to push past it. Who knew what other bizarre adventures lay before him. They hadn't even made it to Pewter City, the rest of Kanto was open to Teddy.
"I say we pack up our things and push forward. The forest is great but there is so much more out there!" Teddy exclaimed. He took out a Pokeball from his knapsack and returned Houndour.

"I guess it's time to go, then." Hayes said as he stuffed his over-shirt in the bag after Teddy had answered, before standing up and pulling a strap over a shoulder and letting it rest there.
It appeared as if they were on track, as a well-trodden path wasn't too far away from where they'd decided to stop. At least, it was more of an actual path than anything else in the forest he'd seen. After he'd checked with the two of them, he'd head in the direction of it and continue on it if they agreed; it seemed to stretch a good distance, so he imagined it'd take some time still. As they walked, he absent-mindedly ran a hand over the Pokeballs at his side until he felt a difference in one of them. Without thinking about it too much he unclipped it and brought it in front of him, wondering what it had been... and then he noticed it. It looked like it'd been... chewed on? Not something you'd expect to see.
After a brief moment of disbelief, he realized it was the Pokeball he'd lost in the night during the battle with that Pokemon... and he couldn't remember seeing it, or any tracks leading away, now that he thought about it a bit more.
"...Uh, Teddy?" Hayes said, looking over at him as he held the ball. "Did you say you wanted a Munchlax?"

Teddy looked at the path ahead of him and his new friends. It can't have been too far from Pewter City. It seemed like the sun was beginning to rise. It must have been a sign, a sign that they would finally leave Viridian Forest. The night had been long, they exchanged stories, fell asleep and then found that Hayes had disappeared. They eventually found him covered in cobwebs; apparently he had been attacked by a Spinarak. It happened to the best of them, Teddy had been awoken by a Burmy hanging in front of his face that same night.
He was broken out of his day dream by Hayes returning to ask him a question concerning a Munchlax. He asked whether or not Teddy wanted one. "Oh, totally. Seems like a great Pokemon to have. Such brute strength must be behind all that mass. Have you heard about how well they can swim? Combine that with how long these Pokemon sleep for, it's amazing. Sleep for months I've heard. No surprise considering how much they eat!" Teddy declared, barely taking a breath.

As he listened to Teddy, it was obvious he'd thought about it before. All the amazement, the facts he knew about them, it definitely sounded like something he'd given a decent amount of thought to in the past.
"I dropped a Pokeball last night around the tree I mentioned, when I stopped for the night. Before..." He trailed off, remembering what'd happened after he'd fell asleep. "Anyway. That's what I ran off for earlier, to find it. It wasn't far from where I remembered dropping it, but..." At this point, Hayes stopped and turned the Pokeball in his hand around, pointing it toward an open space before tapping it with his thumb and activating it, letting it expand in his hand before releasing a Pokemon that appeared on the ground. He explained it had been knocked out by Rotom, even if it looked like it was only sleeping.
Like I thought. He thought to himself, imagining if he'd been wrong about it for a moment before he continued. "I guess the Munchlax I ran into started on the ball after I'd fallen asleep. It had a bit of honey on it from the tree, so I mean, that's my best guess." Hayes said, shrugging. "Or it rolled into it... don't know." He added after a moment; it wasn't like he had all that much experience in catching Pokemon, he really didn't know how it happened.
"Anyway, did you want him? I didn't mean to catch it, but... I did. I'll probably release him after I get it looked at at a PokeCenter, if not. It shouldn't be hard to backtrack to where I ran into him."

Teddy listened intently as Hayes explained how he had managed to come into possession of a Munchlax. It seemed that whilst Teddy and Matt had been battling rather run of the mill Pokemon, Hayes had stumbled over a rare Pokemon such as Munchlax.
Hayes threw open his Pokeball to reveal the small critter. Hayes informed him that this wasn't the Munchlax exhibiting it's usual behaviour of sleeping, but in the process of being caught, it had fainted. This didn't sour the experience for Teddy however and as Hayes said those immortal words, Teddy's face lit up like a Christmas tree.
"Do you mean it? I would love to! This is great! We're going to go swimming. We'll eat loads, he'll join the rest of the team as he collapse into a pile! This'll be great!" Teddy exclaimed. Then it dawned on him and his face grew long. "But Hayes...I have nothing to offer you in return for the trade"

"It's alright, don't worry about it." Hayes said after Teddy's excitement had dimmed, realizing he didn't have anything to trade. "I mean, we said it after we'd left the city, right? That we'd help each other out if we happened to run into a Pokemon one of us wanted." He elaborated, recalling the idea Matt had brought up. "And if I spot anything I'd like, or you see something, I'll let you know." Hayes added after a moment; he had a feeling Teddy would be good for it, and if not, it wasn't like he'd caught it on purpose... it had caught itself. If Teddy didn't want it, or Matt, he'd let it go after getting it patched up at a PokeCenter. He doubted it'd want to be around Rotom, after all.

Teddy remembered what they had declared at the start of their journey. He didn't expect this so soon however. In the blink of an eye he ran up towards Hayes and grabbed his hands. Slowly he spoke "Any Pokemon. Any time. You point it out and it will be yours" he turned around and letting go of Hayes' hands, he knelt down by the Munchlax. It was unconscious, but Teddy patted it on the head. "We'll get you to Pewter soon buddy. Then we can swim all the time. Can't wait for you to meet the rest of the team!" Teddy said. He looked up at Hayes, sparkles in his eyes. "So how do we do this? Do you release him and I catch him or what?" Teddy had no idea how this would go down. On Cianwood, no-one ever traded Pokemon. It was such a hot blooded town, they were training partners for life.

"I... don't know, actually?" Hayes answered, after Teddy had asked how they'd do the trade; it was something he never had to do it before. Hayes almost asked Matt, seeing as he was the only one of them who'd brought up a dedicated trainer-related goal in the desire to be an Ace Trainer, but it shouldn't have been hard to figure out. He looked at the Pokemon on the ground and then at the Pokeball he still had in hand, and returned it to the ball. After that, he walked over to Teddy and handed it to him. "You can have the Pokeball, I suppose." He decided, taking a step back after he'd given it to him and looking over at Matt.
"And next time I get lost, maybe I'll run into a Heracross." Hayes said, although he didn't expect to get lost in the forest again any time soon... but he did owe him one.

Hayes handed Teddy the Pokeball that held Munchlax. He wasn't sure of how the whole trading or gifting process would work or confirm that Munchlax now belonged to himself, but he took the ball in his hand and looked down at Munchlax. Pointing the Pokeball at him, he chanted "Munchlax. Return" and the red light enveloped Munchlax, sending him back into the ball. The centre of the ball switching from red to it's natural white colour. It appeared that it was indeed that easy to exchange ownership of Pokemon. Putting the ball back in the bag with the rest of his team, Teddy stood up and turned to Hayes. "You won't regret this buddy. He'll be taken good care of! If you ever miss him, you just have to ask!" Teddy declared. His team was beginning to fill out nicely. He was beginning to worry what would happen when he reached six Pokemon.
