Coming home journal here
PostPosted: Mon Nov 20, 2006 3:02 am

Dear Journal,

Canti started school a little while ago, but apparently they don't teach anything there.

------
"A, B, C, D, E, G, P..."

"Arrrrrnt!" Keiran yawned from his place on the couch, jutting his thumb downwards to signal his mild disapproval. The ant sitting at the coffee table blinked at him, then slowly lowered his antennae with his disappointment. Wrong? Again?

"That's alright, Canti." Lucas soothed the boy, gently running his hand over the D-Corper's back. A silent reproachful look was passed to the redhead before the photographer shuffled through the papers in hand. "We'll take it slow."

"Okay.." Gripping the table uncertainly, Canti sighed. They'd been trying ever since he'd gotten home from Miss Kat's class and he still couldn't remember a thing of what he'd learned. Yet he was supposed to do worksheet? Well, coloring wasn't so hard, but Lucas just didn't seem willing to be settled with it. He wanted memorization, and some simple understanding.

"So, do you know what this letter is?" The brunette questioned, prodding one of the worksheets.

"A-Aay?"

"Right! 'A' for Alligator. See? They drew pictures. Go ahead and color it in and write the letter."

Smiling somewhat gratefully, the ant child reached for his crayon box and took up several crayons to occupy his many hands. "Aay, bee, see... How am I to be drawing them, Lu?"
---

If he sees them, I think he can identify them. The first few anyway. But that's alright, isn't it?

After some time, I had to go see about the twins and make sure they were still asleep. Waking up for the twins is a moment of grogginess then chaos until they wear themselves out again. I left Keiran in charge of Canti's studies during that time.
---

"Okay, Maggot. This is G. Gee for Genocide and Gas. ******** this 'gold'." The redhead stayed lounging upon the couch, but turned mostly towards his newfound pupil. "Say it."

"Gee. Keiran, what is this 'genocide'?"

"Nevermind. Next letter. Honestly, kid, the Seraphic runes are so much harder than this and it took me a couple centuries to learn them. Still don't know them all. Now H. Aach. H for Hell- which is where most of the human worms go when they die. According to this p***y sheet, it also stands for Hawk. Whatever. You know what that is?"

"I-it's a bird, right?"

"Mm. See, I knew you weren't that stupid. Alright. Now recite the alphabet up to I. Every time you get it wrong, I'm gonna smack you in the head. C'mere."
---

Note to self- don't let Keiran teach again. I bet that b*****d did this on purpose. I had to put Canti down to bed after I got back because he had a headache. That damn brute. I don't care how much work he got done.

Canti still doesn't have a good memorization of his letters, but he can identify them now... as well as give some atrocious examples of which words start with everything past G. Thank God he taught Canti how to count by his toes and not dead bodies or something like that. Understands numbers pretty well- I'm surprised.

So... first Halloween for the kids. Kids, yeesh. I'm not even married yet and I'm somehow a father! Don't even have a girlfriend yet... just this b*****d of an angel that probably scares them all away with his mach self-righteousness. All in all, though, not a bad Halloween.

I went as the paparazzi disguised as a bush so that I would be able to take pictures of all of the boys in their costumes and Keiran was some half-naked monster with a triangle for a head. Must have seen it in one of those horror films he insists on making me buy. The twins were a pair of Jedi, whose costumes I made myself. I'm damn gosh darn proud of it, actually. Best waste of a pair of gloves ever.

Of course, the twins are still infants and aren't capable of much more than squirming around, so they fell asleep about halfway through the excitement. Canti was trick-or-treating for all of them in his little mummy outfit. Maybe not so original, but I doubt the costume ever included an extra set of arms! (Ha ha...)

A noteworthy place came in the form of a small coldesac we found on the way. Apparently the people were giving out aliens instead of candy. Aliens! So now we've got a dragon-thing with razor-blades for wings.

It's not even as big as my hand so hopefully we don't lose it! Since Canti was the one to get it, he'll be the one to take care of it until he shows some disinterest. I'm helping, of course, but it's not really that difficult to manage and seems to be content with birdseed. I think Canti likes it, because sometimes I see it on his shoulder during his various cleaning expeditions.

That's another thing. At first I thought it was a really cute perk, but now I'm a bit worried. The boy was in the kitchen cabinet dusting when I went to get some crackers. I swear to God. I opened the door and there he was! I'm not crazy. I think we were both equally surprised.

A child is expected to know certain things at certain ages.
In order to obtain rights to their Dragon(egg), they must prove they can meet these requirements.

The following sheet is for your child to fill out, with mild help from their guardian, then sent back to D-corp. (PM ot the mule)

Also any changes, even minor such as haircuts, should be reported to the D-corp to be logged and filed.

Thankyou,
D-corp

Quote:
To whomever it may concern,

I would first like to say that so far Canti has been nothing but to a gift to this house, and not just because he seems to enjoy cleaning it. He is a very helpful child, and a soothing influence to be near. I have never met such an accepting person and I hope that'll never change. I do worry, though. While he seems to mean well, the boy is somewhat pushy and imposing. So far the other kids he's come across don't seem to mind terribly.

Is there some sort of gene in the ant that eliminates fear or something? I ask because some of his cleaning habits get a little extreme. My roommate had to help me get him down from atop our refrigerator the other day. I worry.

No haircuts or anything like that- his hair's already short enough. It's really hard to dress for a kid with four arms, though. I've been cutting holes in the sides of regular dress shirts so far, and it seems to work. With winter I've taken to putting him in long-sleeves and just pulling some leg-warmers over the second set of arms. Can't have him getting cold, can I?

Of course, the worksheet you sent is enclosed and has been filled out accordingly. At first I was concerned with his slow progress in letters, but I guess he's really not that different from the other children, and he's a hard worker. I was able to tell him what letters to put and he wrote them down; I hope some of the answers are alright.

Here's to hoping you pick out a dragon that's just as wonderful as the child you've left with me. Ha ha...

Canti's Musings
Canti cannot write at this time so his 'entries' come as thoughts

Today I have gone with my Lu to see my dragon at the D-Corp. Lu was very worried because he thinks dragons are not good things to have inside of the house. I think he was just afraid because he watches too many scary movies.

My dragon looks like a rock, but the man there was saying it is not a rock. I am what Lu calls 'so-so' about rocks, but if my dragon can look like a rock, it is special. All the other dragons look like eggs. Canti can only look like Canti.

I am hoping it is fast in hatching. Sometimes it is being hard to reach places even with a chair when I am dusting. If a long dragon can push me up higher, it would be easier to work instead of having to pile chairs or climb. Also, I will make sure the dragon is learning how to clean some things.

I hope it is not like Olly's dragon, putting holes in our walls from climbing. House is messy enough for Canti to deal with.

Why do these sort of things always happen to me? Why am I always bearing the bad luck?

Well, in the end Canti got what he wanted- our new little blue boy is sticking around for now. Oh! Not that I didn't try to give him to another good home, because I assure you, journal, that I did. I didn't get a picture of him because he seems to really hate cameras, but I did make a lot of fliers to put up around the park and in town about a found child.

You wouldn't believe how many people are missing their babies. It's frightening.

I had kept the description of him off because, as you may guess, I didn't want just anyone coming by and making off with a free baby. Why, oh why did I ever think of that brilliant idea? Really, sometimes I wish I could just care less like Keiran does, and I wish I was horrible enough a person to hand a clearly abandoned child to a perfect stranger. For all I know, some of these people could have been planning to eat him.

Four days of people coming in and out to tell me about their baby. Today I went to take down all the signs and Canti helped. The boy is really more clever than I give him credit for, I think. I may just be a little scared. In those days, he has successfully sold the new boy to the twins until they practically scratch their way out of the playpen when he's in the room. And if I were to believe the source, my little boy has been standing guard outside until the end trying to interrogate the potential parents. Of course, I cut off this sort of bullying the first day, but he's been finding ways to get himself back out.

He dropped a flower-pot (with flower) on top of someone's head, then had to go outside to 'clean' the porch for five hours. I never knew the boy to be so determined... No. Yes I did. When Canti sets his mind on something, it usually gets done. Schoolwork, cleaning, and now... this baby boy.

I figured that if it's that important to him, I'll keep him and do my best to raise him.

But oh, Lord, the diapers.

And I need to go get some new clothes for the baby.

We can't call him Bluelette or Bluebird forever...

I'm going to go wash my hands.

After much thought and serching the gift that was decided on is a simple one but one appropriate to the season. Wrapped in crisp gold paper is four gloves for the receivers four hands stripped in black and white with little perfect snowflakes patterned across the black stripes. Each glove is longer than the usual wrist length pairs and reaches mid way up between wrist and elbow. The material used is soft and fury and the colors are flawless with newness.
To go with the gloves a scarf has also been provided. Following the gloves leading pattern it is black with small white snowflakes decorating it. And long tassels at each end. The scarf is wrapped individually from the gloves in a smaller packet of silver and selotaped atop it. Making a quite handsome package all in all.
