Hello!
I'm 17 years old, just graduated from high school, and I don't really have a lot of background in philosophy. Really I just like to come up with my own thoughts; I try to let everything that I see and hear influence me, even if it's just a little. I find that keeping an open mind helps me learn more about the world and the people around me than sticking to one or more philosophers ideas on how things are. (no offense)
I did really enjoy reading Les Miserables...I now have it, and am reading it again. I once started reading a bunch of essays by a philsopher...but I just really didn't enjoy it. I'd rather have something like a folk tale, just not simple. I like seeing how other people view the world, even if it's not the way that I look at it.

Hello, My name on these forums is Majda, but you may call me Maj if you so wish. I am a Graduated High-School Student who is pursuing a career in Counselling for Abused Women and Children, with this said, many of my theories link to Child-Rearing, Parenting, Feminisim, Equality and Oppression.
Furthermore I am currently a Co-Operative Educaiton student at my Local AIDS Committtee, so I'm prone to discussion sexuality, harm-reduction, equality for LGBTTQQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Two-Spiritedl, Queer and Quesitoning) Youth and Individuals.
In Highschool last year I took an interesting course of Philosophy and have been stewing eveyr since, I'm trying to keep a jounral composed of my own thoughts and ideas. I'm also a poet and can be incredibly pessismistic, or incredibly optimistic, depending on whether or not I've had my morning coffee.
Good Day and Thank You for Your Time

Well, just to introduce myself here (for those who don't know) I'm Auto (short for Autonomist). The name implies my an obvious goal of philosophy, the ability to govern oneself (autonomy). Therefore, I advocate self-mastery and goverance (and no, this does not nessearialy imply that I promote anarchy for those who might be thinking that).
I'm 20 years old, I live in NY, and I'm on may way into my third year of majoring in philosophy itself. Although, sadly, I will have to also branch off into law to make any sort of money at first, before I hopefully get a job teaching philosophy.
I would have to say my preference for philosophers would lie with Socrates. The man lived his life by his philosophy, which was to persue truth through questioning (even though it sometimes came off as all-knowing). This was, indeed his goal though, to learn from others by simply trial and error of debating theories presented. However, the greatest legacy he leaves behind is through those of us that still hold true to the persuit of knowledge (and I'd like to think of myself as in that group as well).

About time I did this... redface
I have spent 25 years learning about this world and realise that there so much out there I really know nothing. My only formal education in philosophy was studying the history and philosophy of science when at university. I tend to think a lot and view things from unusual perspectives... leading to an interest in philosophy to complement my amatuer interests in psychology, anthropology, theology and politics.
I am not very good with names so mostly I just remeber ways of thinking and philosophies and not who said them or thought of them. I tend to be more interested in the ideas than the people anyway.
I am currently on holiday (and have been for over 7 months now), so my online schedule is highly erratic as is my time zone and location.
I enjoy lengthy discussions even in PM, so don't hesitate to PM me if you have something you want to know about one of my posts.

Hello, everyone. My name is Monica, and I am 19 years of age. I live in a small town in California.
Bigggest things people should know about me:
1.) I do not have a religion, no I am not atheist...because it is no longer a title, but no a fashion for this new age of "rebellious," adolescent teenages. But dont get me wrong...science aint got it all figured out yet either, but then again, if I had a strong sense of science, I would be religiously affiliated....and therefor I am not either....
2) It is impossible to have your own philosophy without being highly influenced by someone elses ideals, so therefor I dont really have a philosophy that I call my own, but I do enjoy Mechanistic Materialism. Quite interesting stuff if I do say so myself...
3.) Current project: End the reign of this "I am a gothic punk bastered, and the world sucks and ******** everything," mantality. For those of you who are smart, the gothic period was based off of old castles and houses fashioned in a dark persona and the it was also based off the poetry that was written. As far as im concerned, dressing in all black and cutting yourself wasnt part of the get go....but yes....that's my current project....but dont get me wrong...im no preppy cheerleader bent on world domination......
so yah..... PM if yah want to chat, I am always good to talk too!

Salutations, fellow philosophers!
I'm Corrupt Harmony. I am eleven years old. I have always loved to wander along the path of philosophy, ever since I was old enough to read. My Humanities teacher has been very kind to me this past year, talking to me about philosophy and religion, discussing literature with me, and just being a great friend. He was the one who made me realize that I did not have to randomly look for philosophy in the library and such, hoping that my long-time hunger would be satisfied. I could ask for philosophy or religion.
I write quite a bit, the majority of my writing being poetry and short stories, but I do write reflective essays about other philosophical work as well. I never felt as if writing "deep" work as a challenge or a grueling task. Words simply flow from my pen onto the paper like a waterfall cascades to the ground.
People have always told me that my writing is soul-searching and philosophical. All I have done is take the naturally human action to agree.
Edit: You make me feel so painfully young...

ninja I don't know if I have much, if any philosophical background...
I do know that I tend to think of things like life, meanings of dreams, and take interest in... some questionable things. Plus, a friend said I could go into philosophy with the thoughts I have on things.
I'm not sure if it's what one is looking for in an introduction... but anyhow...
I'm just a 19 year old, still at home, part time job for almost the whole week now... in the afternoons. (Walking at night is so relaxing...) I seek interesting discussion and information, and like to hear others' thoughts on things.
Hope this guild has some of what I look for. 3nodding

Hello! My name is "Tree." I am 28 years old and a free-thinking spirit. I enjoy lively discussions, especially regarding any form of philosophy. While I've never taken a formal philosophy class, I DO read a lot and I tend to look at things in a different light. I enjoy debating and may often debate on the side that is opposite of my views to be the devils advocate and to get new perspective. I'm a big fan of Leondardo Da Vinci, Dostoyevski and Nietze - primarily for their revolutionary ideas and strong will. To me, I don't care WHAT your opinion is as long as you HAVE an opinion and can discuss your logic. Sarcasm and satire are some of the many weapons in my arsenal of words, and while I do not mean to offend I DO mean to make people think. An idea is a mind-virus and I inted to infect thousands. And even if you don't agree with my discussions, it will at least make you stop and think about what you DO believe and why you believe that way. I also record a lot of philosophical songs, usually based on hair-brained ideas I had that are either shocking or so outlandish they are nearly nonsensical. Here is one goofy song I did entitled "Rotten Sausage." This song is very folkish, which is very different from my usual metal rantings... but I hope you all enjoy: Rotten Sausage mp3Other interests - Japanese language, anime, playing guitar, video games, mountain boarding and cannabinol inhalation. mmmm.... cannabinols... And please... read my blog if you so desire: http://ochimaru.blogspot.com <---- english http://ochibaka.blogspot.com <---- nihongo

Hello!
I just graduated from High School, and I have never taken any philosophy courses, although I hope to in College. While I am not very knowledgeable about philosophers and their matching philosophies, I do enjoy discussing different ideas and concepts. I do not follow a particular philosophy other than my own. wink Of course, there is probably someone else's philosophy it could tie into somewhere... oh well...

Hello everyone. My name is Guilherme, from Brazil and I'm 17. Unfortunetly, there's no such thing as philosophy in normal schools here, so I can't really attend to anything like it (probably only in colleges), but I like to read about it a lot. I've read Thus spoke Zarathustra by Nietzsche and just bought a book with biography, For the Critic to Economical Politics (not sure about that title in english, mine is in portuguese) and first part of The Capital, by Karl Marx.
And I'm always up for my own philosophizing. Specially late in the night (or early in the morning). Your brain can come up with the craziest stuff at three AM in the morning.

I suspect I was randomly prodded into joining the guild. Having an interest in philosophy, I didn't feel the need to decline the request. And the admission fee was abnormally low, so that too was no reason.
Greetings.
I go by the name of Maze on these forums. My interests may appear to vary from day to day, but I think I just have too many.
I am 23 years old at this moment in time.
I may come across as cold, bitter, cynical, disinterested and the like. Usually, that is a result of a lack of sleep, and I probably don't quite mean it as mean as it sounds.
I may also come across as immature, dense, insane, and somewhat lacking in discipline. That is entirely because (most likely) I am.
I am leery of wikipedia.
I can also be blunt.
I generally have conflicting emotions/reasons about topics. One of those being war.
I am attracted to the shiny quotes in the thread of ochimaru's making.
At the moment, I am attempting to formulate or shape a way of life that I can hold to and find acceptable. For the most part, I find myself lacking.
Having no further clue as to what to do in this post, I will leave it at this.
Although I wouldn't mind being informed as to who invited me and why.. *grins and is a curious little Gaian*

My name is Jack "Jim-Jam" Jimmy Jr. No, really.
Anyway, I'd like to consider myself a skeptic, and I try to analyse things, sometimes. If they're interesting enough.
There's probably not much more which is best said in this intro.
