Tell a little about your philosophy background here...This is a way for members to get to know each other a little bit...especially for new members.

Hey everyone I'm M.C I'm 16 going on 17 and I live in Australia.
I'm studying Philosophy at a VCE level (VCE is schooling which takes place commonly over 2 years where you study a range of subejcts in order to get in to uni- for all you not familar with it).
I've only officialy been studing it for 7 months but unofficialy, all my live.
I don't know weather I belive in a devine, but I hold my morals high and belive in equality and compassion. That's all I can think Of at the moment.

BTW this threads a good idea, good job dezrosatweaker.

I'm an English lady studying sociology at university. I find myself being attracted far more to theory side of the subject, approaching it more as a philosopher than a researcher. I originally thought I was marxist/socialist in nature, buit the more I study post-modernism, the more appealing that I find it as a critique of social reality.

Salvate, everyone, I'm The Beatnik and I'm a more of a self-proclaimed philosopher than one who's taken any courses or anything. I'm a devotee of Marcuse, mostly because he shares my view on a surprisingly optimistic world, birthed from his bizarre combination of Marxism and Freudian Psychology. I'm also a huge fan of Hermen Hesse, a german author whose books inspire a great deal of philosophical thought.

Oh I'm editing this because I forgot to tell about myself really beyond my views. I'm a Freshman in high school, I'm a devout Traditional Indian Buddhist, and I also go to a Unitarian Universalist Church. My hobbies include all forms of performance arts (especially Shakespearean acting), and also swordfighting. I own... well, probably somewhere around two dozen swords at this point (I'm a collector) and I'm a blackbelt in Shaolin Long Fist as well as a sort of blend of martial arts developed by the dojo I work at. I'm a tournament fencer, and a bit of a pianist although I never took lessons and compose my own material. That... sums it up!

I am Seth, and I am no Philosopher, I am mearly a high school student who likes to look at things in a different light. If you were to go to my school you would find me in the Oak tree, out front, Deep in thought on one of the highest Branches. I think things through (although it might not seem that way...) before I act. I've got bad grades because I seem to find myself listening to myself think rather than the teachers' talking.

Salutations all! I'm Dezro, and I am a Senior in high School. I live in California if you where wondering. I got into philosophy about a year ago when my brother-in-law was taking a course at his college. I helped him with his papers because he had trouble understanding it. I learned quite a bit from his textbook and I continued doing a little studying here and there and was looking really hard for a place to discuss this with peers. Gaia seemed like a good place after many nights of long debates in the ED tracking down the philosophy threads. So I decided to create a guild...It took me forever to get the funds 'cause I'm lazy and philosophy is pretty much all I do on this site. Anyways I've never taken any course and I don't know actual philosopher's that well but I can hold my own in any argument. The rest is pretty much up to the other members.

BTW: If anyone would like to start a thread giving some sort of Philosophy lesson...like teaching about a certain philosopher each day that would be cool...I'd do it but I don't have the time or the real knowledge.

I'm Ares, 18, and live in Oklahoma. Of course, there's not much interest in philosophy around here, from the meager meetings of my philosophy club in school. I am President of said club and as such try to make people understand what I mean by the "Allegory of the Caves." Of course, they don't get it, because they're there for something else to put on their college application. It angers me.
I am a Lincoln-Douglas debater, which means that I argue with theories and philosophies all day long. Which I like.
I'm all-around a big fan of philosophy.

Hey, I'm MechaSeraph, and I'm still in High School in North America. Um, I'm not much of a philospher. I like Kafka, but he doesn't really count as a philosopher, does he? I also read religious philosophy and I like debating about morality. I can hold my own against my father (who's a theologian) and many of the priests at my church. I don't believe in sin, I believe in a divine, and I believe that once God says you go to heaven, you go to heaven, regardless of whether you're good or not. Yeah... sweatdrop

Hello, Tiger here. I'm just finishing my first year of college. I'm 19 years old. I'm not a philosopher. I've never studied philosophy. Although I did just take Philosophy 109; it wasn't really philosophy to my way of thinking; it was a logic class. It was my bro dezrosatweaker, oh wait his new name is Socrates in Disguise. Anyways, it was his idea for me to join; I helped pay for the guild after all. Besides, I think a not philosophical view point will add to the discussion. And I like to argue, I mean debate. wink

Hey everyone. I wish I found this thread, but for I made my frist post. But, here's another introduction - this time, with added info.

Well, I'm a 22 year old Real Estate Agent/Student from Maryland. I don't have a favorite Philosopher yet, but hopefully the week-long classes will introduce me to one that I'd like to read more about. Also, I like to question everyone and everything - that right there make me think I'll fit in with everyone here.
