Class Quest Solo
Archer -> Ranger

Maizah knew from an early age that she was meant for something more. It wasn't that she hoped to leave her tribe, but instead she knew that she was meant to be an impact for their survival. Everyone in their tribe had a part to play. Her father was a builder, he ensured that their home was sound and secure. His mother was a researcher, her knowledge was shared to help strengthen their choices. Both added value, but Maizah was quite certain it wasn't her path.

Many called her determined, strong, a child who was a force to be reckoned with. As she grew older, that determination became a honed focus on whatever task was in front of her. Even the building, which she struggled with as it was just so bland, was something she'd do with furiousity. The builds might not be the best technique, but you'd have to admit they were done with force.

No, Maizah knew her true calling was not buildings, but hunting.

The great hunters of their tribe were revered, at least by her. They were strong, determined, and would bring back the sustenance that would continue to support their tribe. Most of the young hunters would stick close by, but the older ones, the skilled ones would go out into the deep dark woods for days, weeks even, and return with a cart of meals that would last a season. They'd have stories to tell and scars to show, and they were just everything she wanted to be. And so, at a young age she picked up a bow and she learned.

Every day she'd disappear into the woods and practice with her bow. At first, it was making sure she was strong enough to pull a string, then it was hitting her marks. Close, then a little father, and father still. Before long, she was able to shoot wile moving. It was small steps, but each accomplishment was one to celebrate. Eventually, she found herself going out and hunting for her family. Sometimes Yonas would join, but often it was just her, the woods, and survival.

Her technique was still weak, and she often stumbled or would return empty handed. But each meal she did find a way to bring back was a step closer to that something she chased. Oh yes, each kill that was larger, stronger than the last was a reflection of her growth. Eventually, she was noticed.

"Maizah, was it? That's quite a kill you've got." The older hunter spoke up one day, distracting her from skinning the creature she snagged earlier, "Large size, clean hit, overall a nice kill."

She turned and smiled brightly at the hunter before her. It was Dahvis, a well seasoned hunter that was the pride of their tribe, and someone she herself looked up to.

"Thank you, sir. I was very fortunate with the game today." She replied with happiness in her voice, her cheeks warming slightly so she turned back to keep cutting.

"Indeed. But your technique for skinning leaves much to be desired...and much meat on the table."

She paused at that comment, looking down at her hands and her dull blade. She knew what he said was true, and so she took it as a good natured jab. Her father and mother were not hunters, and so she learned by observing from afar and practicing on her own. Dropping the knife down and squeezing her hands a moment, she turned back to Dahvis to study his expression. He seemed to be looking her over keenly, but not with a sneer.

"I'm self-taught. And this is much better than the mess I've made in the past." She replied with a shrug, "I'm still a bit young to join the hunters, so I'm just trying to get it on my own."

He hummed slowly at that, before nodding and looking to her bow next. It was a hand-me-down, and the silence was enough. They both knew it wasn't a true hunting bow, but that meant her kill was that much more impressive. As his hum died down, she moved to brush her hands on the rag to her side and stand up slowly.

"I do plan on joining the hunters soon, though. Just a little longer and I should be ready."

She looked him in the eye with confidence, and he chuckled at that before scratching his head, "What are you, 15? 16?"

"Nearly 16, yeah." She replied, blinking at the question.

He nodded, "There's nothin' stopping you from joining the next hunt. You're old enough, I was your age after all when I joined. And you've got skills enough to hit your mark and make a kill."

Looking at the kill, he walked closer still and shook his head at the knife she was using. He then reached around to his belt and pulling out one of his daggers. It was worn, though sharp enough. He clearly kept it tended enough. Turning back to her, he moved to hand her the knife.

"Get yourself a holster and a sharpening stone. This dagger is just as important as your bow. There is no point in getting a kill if you cannot utilize all of it's resources. A hunter never wastes their kill."

Maizah grabbed the dagger carefully with wide eyes, before looking back up to the man in front of her and whispering a soft thank you.

"We'll see you on the next hunt, wont we, Maizah? I sure hope so. It's about time you learned the ways of sustaining our tribe and family."

As he turned and walked away, the young girl felt herself shaking with excitement. She had to go tell someone what was happening - finally, she was becoming a huntress!
