Where Prehnite, Taenite, and Ransomite found the crystals interesting, the crystals found them interesting. Where a galaxy of crystals stretched deep into the cave, one peculiar cluster shuddered near the fore. Then it erupted from among its brethren, and walked on spiny legs over top of each jutting prism. This walking mass of crystals left behind an obvious bald spot in the beautiful ceiling. It was not simply migrating, however; the apparently sentient crystal mass made its way down the wall, then toward Prehnite and Ransomite.

Finally, the thing tilted itself upward, revealing two dull orange eyes peeking out beneath rich violet crystals. Closer inspection would reveal that it was some sort of flat, disc-shaped bug youma that had somehow covered its shell in the Rift's energy-rich resource. Either it clicked at them, or its body simply clicked as it canted left and right.

Youma Gemstone
HP: 150/150
Notes: Youma Gemstone is not attacking — it looks curious as it observes the officers. Gemstone is nonspeaking, but can be interacted with and inferred from. Gemstone can be commanded by Generals+.
If your character wants to infer something about Gemstone, roll 1d6. Rolls of 5 and 6 will yield information. If your character has been to the Rift before, add +1 to your roll.

Sylvite, Nembus, Faustite, and Amazonite may have found the lamps a strange and fascinating addition to the winding cave, but one peculiar youma saw them quite differently. The round-bodied creature erupted from the lamp pile, knocking a few loose and tumbling them down to the floor nearest the pair of kneeling Generals. The creature emerged with a high-pitched, nasal "Ah!" as if it were relieved of a burden.

It looked like a rat in some ways, and a gremlin in others. More humanoid in shape, this one had a portly belly on which rested an oversized necklace that dragged on the ground. Its ears were ratlike, and its face pointed, with backed earrings tucked between its thin lips as if they were cigars. Around one ear was draped a toe tag, its information no longer legible.

"Look at that, customers already!" The creature rubbed its spotted green hands together and sized the lot of them up. "What can I do ya for, Generals? Interest ya in a lamp? Got plenty — made 'em myself, with ole' Sticky there!" He waved at the deeper part of the cave, where Taenite and Cymophane wandered.

Youma Malone
HP: 300/300
Notes: Youma Malone is not attacking — it evidently sees the trespassers as customers. Malone has history that can be known, provided your character has been to the Rift and you have posted at least one RP in the sign-up thread. If so, please quote me in your next post and make a mention that Malone seems familiar.

Roll 1d10 when interacting with Malone. Evens, odds, and the number 5 have different effects (five and odd stack).

A strained moan erupted from the limestone wall next to Cymophane. At first, nothing happened. Then scatters of gravel trickled down from a crack in the wall. Then that crack widened, two inches wide at most, and a most peculiar youma sidled out from its freshly-opened hole.

Withered and navy blue, the creature looked like a desiccated person turned into a walking stick. Or a walking stick turned into a desiccated person. It had hair, though it was gnarly and knotted like tree bark. Its face was only a pair of elongated, sidelong holes for eyes, and a mouth much the same. Each closed vertically when speaking or pretending to blink. Two long arms extended near to its knee, and it rose up on a pair of legs just as desiccated and lengthy as the rest of it. At full height, the creature was at least seven feet tall.

It rubbed the back of its neck. Looked at the two. Reached for the taller Taenite's visible starseed.

Quote:
Youma Viridian
HP: 100/100
Notes: Youma Viridian may or may not be attacking — it has just awoken from docility and sees a delicious snack. It is able to speak, though it does not speak often. Of the present youma, Viridian is most likely to anger at the wrong thing said. Viridian and Malone are familiar with each other. If your character has been to the Rift, they may have seen Viridian before. Captains and Generals may try to command Viridian.

Roll 1d5 when speaking to Viridian. Evens and odds have different effects.

Quote:
Youma have come out of the woodwork to say hello to the trespassers. How fun!

There are dice roll mechanics to each youma, though their effects are for the DM to know and you to find out. Please read their responses carefully, as they may give you different information depending on who's talking to them!

All youma have HP counts, which means all youma in this area can be dusted. While they are to be interrogated, some youma are actually more trouble than they're worth!

These youma are open to interrogation until the next prompt drops, in which the story will move forward.

Good luck, and have fun!

[[Lieutenant Ransomite]

He was just about to turn his attention from the crystals—pretty as they were—to the rest of the cave around him. There were surely other things to investigate, like maybe the la—

Ah, okay.

The shuddering movement caught his attention out of the corner of his eye, and Ransomite turned to face it. He glanced briefly toward Prehnite then back to the crystals, watching as the mass made its way toward himself and Prehnite.

He wondered if it was hostile, but it moved with no hurry. Even still, he mentally reminded himself of where he’d stashed his… ‘weapons’…

Ransomite was less settled with the idea of it approaching them, but—like the youma who had gotten them up there—he was prepared to allow it as long as nothing seemed aggressive. And, again, it moved with no hurry.

When it reached them but came no closer, he did relax a bit. He offered a wary but steady, “hello,” even though he saw no mouth that might be capable of responding. It seemed like the polite thing to do.

That was not to say Ransomite didn’t partially turn his body away in preparation to get out of potential strike range, of course… He kept Prehnite within his peripheral vision, though. Just in case Prehnite saw something Ransomite didn’t.

The orange of its eyes was a nice contrast to the purple, he had to admit—

[Super Sailor Fulgurite]

Don't become youma s**t seemed to become an omen -- Fulgurite's advisement to the blond-haired lieutenant hadn't come true for the blond-haired lieutenant, but it had come true for a senshi that was foolish enough to attempt to wave to the youma in the Hall of Shadows. He didn't know whether to laugh because someone couldn't read or wince because that could have just as easily been him when the spikes of his impulsive nature had been the worst.

As it was, it took quite a bit for Fulgurite to not do the same, keeping his eyes down as he followed the rest of the party into the depths of the Rift. He had, like many of the senshi, never set foot in there, and it had been for a reason. Perhaps taking on this mission was foolish, but General Axinite had wanted something to do with it. Had been important, then, right?

Getting a youma ride up the side of the cliffs had been both very cool and very, deeply weird. Fulgurite felt comfortable enough around them, but he also knew they could eat him at any moment--

He found himself at the entrance of the tunnels very much alive.

Fulgurite deeply resisted the temptation to wander off as much as he wanted to; a single senshi heading down any of these tunnels seemed like an idea even he had trouble getting behind. His eyes breezed over the children's toys and he wondered, briefly, if there were such thing as youma children. ... Perhaps it was better he not think of the implications behind that.

Captain Prehnite
HP: 75

Prehnite was enamored with the lovely crystalized insectoid. Sidling up next to Ransomite and watching in awe as it detached itself from the ceiling and clicked over. Purple was his favorite color - enveloped the eeriness of how so many of the rifts creatures mimicked the other world in some ways.

Such vibrant orange eyes amongst lovely gemstones...

"It's fascinating, isn't it? Ah - Captain Prehnite, by the way.." the words stated evenly, calmly as he flanked the blond haired, Christmas tree buttoned, Lieutenant. Casting his gaze along the ceiling more thoroughly, wary of any more cracks or movement within the surprisingly seamless looking crystalline structures. Unsure if the entire ceiling were alive with them, or if it was simply the ones clever disguising of itself - a nice little pocket nest within the large dome.

"You're a friendly thing, aren't you? Maybe you can help us, hmm..." Prehnite spoke softly to the dull eyed disk youma. Kept his hands empty, his position non-threatening. He hope'd he'd not have to pull anything on the pretty thing, not while they were technically invading their home. If nothing else he wished to do very little to enrage it when they'd only just arrived.

Corrupt Sailor Taenite
HP: 50

Taenite couldn’t agree with Cymophane more about how they should be careful not to get separated. The last thing he wanted to do was end up just a couple of Senshi in a place filled with youma.

“I imagine it would be pretty difficult for a bunch of youma to resist us if we made our auras more noticeable,” Taenite said with a shrug. “All we need to do is pull out our starseeds.” Not that he would recommend doing that, and not that he’d ever done something like that before. It was basically a death sentence, but if all of them pulled out their starseeds, he could imagine it could draw the attention of even the youma hiding in the crag below.

He continued to watch curiously as the youma around them started making their presence known. He was both surprised and amused that the crystals above them ended up being a youma, and then one decided it wanted to sell them the lamps that were there.

And since it would be rude to ignore him, Taenite flashed a friendly smile and lifted a hand to wave back at the sales-youma. But before he could make any comment to Cymophane about it, there was a youma that decided to make its presence known to both himself and Cymophane. He smiled at this one too, letting out a whistle when it stood taller than himself.

And then it reached for his starseed.

“Hey now, you have to buy me dinner, first,” Taenite said as he held his hand over the opening in his chest, his expression aghast at the very forward youma. He did, however, take a cautious step backwards just in case it reached out its too long arms with another attempt. “A fair exchange, don’t you think? I might settle for a lamp, since they’re being sold right over there. Or perhaps information on a particular youma we’re trying to locate?”

General Sylvite

Due to recent events, and also slightly less recent events, when the pile of lamps started moving, Sylvite's first reaction was to look back over her shoulder towards Feldspar. After she checked, twice, that he was okay, she looked back to the youma that was crawling out to talk to them, making sure that she was the one in front and not her lieutenant.

As far as she knew, there could still be something going on with Feldspar that was really tempting to youma, and she didn't want him to end up all wrapped up in glowy crystal and used as permanent home decor.

She couldn't handle that.

It seemed okay for now though, so she gave the youma a little bit of a smile, still kneeling down so that she was more on his level.

"Yeah, I want a lamp!" she said, and it was partially because she thought business might it happy, and happy youma were more likely to tell them where their target might be. It was also because she suddenly really, really, wanted a lamp.

"Like, yeah, Faustite's shiny and all, but we can't have him around all the time," she said, nodding backwards towards the half-youma and his corrupt.

A youma lamp? You couldn't buy that at the mall. It might even be magic. Even if it wasn't, it would come with a fun story to tell any new recruits.

"Are you selling or trading?" she asked. "I've got some money, but, like, I've also got this."

When Almadel had been in town, she'd brought a few things to him in her subspace pocket that she thought screamed Earth. He hadn't ended up wanting any of them. He'd only wanted his wisps back, so Sylvite was still carrying the stuff around. One of them was a little silicone cat nightlight. It had a fun derpy face, and when you pressed down on its back, it started to glow.

She held it out to the youma.

Corrupt Cymophane

Cymophane joined Taenite in stepping back, tilting his head to stare up at the very tall youma. Though he was used to being around people who were taller than him, the height on this one was almost breathtaking.

As always, Cymophane offered a cheerful greeting, “Hello!”

The attempted starseed grab was mildly concerning. Cymophane put a steadying hand against Taenite’s arm (Did he give it a little squeeze to test the muscle's firmness? Maybe…), then covered the hole on his own chest with his other hand, in case the youma should try for him next.

“Were you sleeping? I hope we weren’t too loud. Sorry to disturb you, but we are looking for… someone?” Did youma refer to each other as someone? Cymophane kept smiling to cover his uncertainty. “You wouldn’t happen to have any scaly friends, would you? They came here to rest, like to change their appearance. Poor thing must be self-conscious or something.”

Super Corrupt Valeria
HP: 75

As youma started to make their presence more known Valeria felt a bit akward, and uncomfoortable, she knew the corrupt senshi here must seem like appatizing meals to the youma. She also knew they needed information and attacking was not a good idea for them, it would only hinder the mission. Perhaps talking to the youma would help them best? While it seemed the sales man was occupied with several of their team Valeria had decided to focus on his friend.

She had seen the stick thin figure going for a corrupts starseed, and watched how they responded. Finally she deicded to step in and try and talk to the youma.

"You're friend here." Motioning to the sales man like youma. "Says you help him make these lamps. It must take a lot of talent to do so, they are impressive to say the least. I wonder though, considering the lack of supplies down here, where do you find the materials to work with? Do other youma help or provide materials?" Curious as she stepped forward to speak directly to the tall youma, hoping complimenting the work would help her out. She was wondering if any lamps were produced using materials from the youma they were looking for, or perhaps any other interesting youma.

[General Amazonite]

Amazonite blinked at the shifting of the pile of lamps, and then, when she saw Malone pop out of it, she brightened, and clapped her handss together. What an absolutely fascinating creature! And he was eager to talk--to do business! It seemed it was true, that this was a place of business of sorts.

She looked over at Sylvite's offering, and gave a brief nod, tail twitching eagerly. "It's true, we could do for a trade, and you've done such fine work on these! Gooodness, I wish I had something proper to offer you." She tilted her head to the side, putting a hand against her cheek.

"Is there anything in particular you like? Besides lamps, of course?"

[Super Sailor Nembus]

Nembus couldn't help her minute jump when a youma very suddenly popped out of the lamps like it was launching out of the water, her eyes widening as the four of them suddenly found themselves faced by a rat-youma with a potbelly and -- was that a toe tag? Why was it on its ear?

As she had just said, she supposed; youma are trying to grasp back onto what they knew before they became what they are. Perhaps this particular youma had previously been a salesman. Perhaps they had been a salesman of lamps or something else that could similarly catch the eye. Perhaps they knew someone who had tied and needed to be tagged. Perhaps they had previously been tagged.

Apparently, the youma had a partner he called Sticky. She glanced off in the direction he had gestured in; Nembus was fairly sure she had spotted a couple other senshi head that way and hoped that Sticky wasn't inclined to utilize them as youma food--

It didn't miss her notice that the youma opted to only address the three generals that surrounded her. Probably best she didn't attempt to speak or draw attention particularly to herself, though she did listen quietly to the other exchanges. It seemed the pink-haired general was opting to buy one of the lamps off the youma with her own kind of lamp. She had also opted to nod toward Faustite and herself, which was a bit terrifying and might have ruined her attempt to remain out of the merchant's notice, but she didn't speak or do anything personally that might have broken that obedient illusion. The dragon half-youma general seemed to take a similar approach, lamenting that she didn't have something good to offer.

Nembus glanced up to Faustite, wondering what her general's approach would be.

General Faustite

Faustite wasn't sure whether Nembus's joke was genuine or sarcastic, could've gone either way, but nothing Nembus said previously was undermining. Might've been like Taenite's teasing about s'mores. Deciding it must've been a pun, he shot her a lidded look askance.

Amazonite and Sylvite were eager to trade for one of the carved lamps, Sylvite even bringing him into the conversation, but Faustite gave the youma and its wares a once-over, found them lacking, and shook his head. "Not even lit. Have to do better than me." A single-shouldered shrug as he rested a hand on his hip. Didn't know this one — never saw it during his couple years down here. Given its human mannerisms, Faustite wagered it spent as much of its time topside as it could.

He leaned closer to Nembus, spoke low. "You spent time in Infiltration." Got herself a communications degree; he had to expect that came with some knowledge about communication. "See what you can get out of one of them.

"Remember — they hate you because they're afraid of you. Could use that to your advantage." Flame eyes cast from her back to the youma, beyond Sylvite and Amazonite. Better that he let them do the talking.

There were other things to watch, here, other members of the team. A pair of Negaverse senshi further in that interacted with something quite a lot larger than them, a Lieutenant and Captain who were looking over a bunch of crystals, a General who helped a damaged Lieutenant get around and brought them in the direction of the lamps, a Negaverse super who looked over the stone toys. No one had been threatened, yet.

General Rakovanite

Youma crawled from the stonework, multiple and in quick succession. For them to be upon the trespassing group so quickly made Rakovanite think hostility was imminent. He tensed, attentive and waiting. But none attacked. One even spoke.

His dark gaze scrapped warily over those gathered: a couple agents with the clicking orange-and-violet youma, Sylvite and the dragon-girl conversing (trading?) with the rat merchant, and two basic corrupts left to their own devises with a tall, gnarled looking humanesque creature.

He could tell any more than that just by looking. If one could speak, it was probably the most intelligent. Dangerous in its own way. But with so many generals around it and Sylvite's chipper demeanor to distract it, it probably wasn't the most immediate threat to their group. More concerning to him was the one attracted to the senshi. Without understanding what it was capable of, it seemed an unnecessary risk not to at least have someone near to aid them, if necessary.

Rakovanite touched a hand between Feldspar's shoulder blades to direct him nearer to the lamp merchant and his cluster of gathered agents. "Stay with Sylvite," he murmured softly and turned toward the cavern with the basics.

He stepped up behind the two corrupts so as not to interrupt their currently peaceful conversation. He didn't know them well, but neither seemed especially daunted, so they were either entirely new to this life, or perhaps just especially dedicated to the assignment.

Lieutenant Feldspar

"Yeah, yeah," Feldspar groused, waving a hand dismissively over his shoulder at Rakovanite as he was nudged back in Sylvite's direction, where a large portion of their group had found interest in a youma... lamp merchant? Seemed odd, but who was he to question whatever went down around here? They were clearly more civilized than any agent he'd ever spoken to let on, so... Might as well let them do their own thing?

He shrugged, bent a leg to cross over his other, and leaned nonchalantly against his cane, watching the interaction from over Sylvite's shoulder.

He figured he'd be better off with someone in between him and the youma, and there were enough takers for the position that he didn't feel a need to crowd the lamp-seller. But he was sure to flash Sylvite a wavering smile and a quick thumbs-up as she kept peeking over her shoulder at him. But, yeah, he'd be lying if he said he wasn't a little bit anxious about the circumstances, even with so many other agents around him.

They'd already been out for hours. His head was starting to hurt, and the nagging for something to quell it was to the point of being distracting. They were all standing around chattering, anyway. It was probably fine.

Feldspar flicked a hand to draw up his space pocket and reached in to pull out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. The bar tables suggested some kind of establishment where this was probably fine. He couldn't imagine the youma here caring. He put one to his lips, flicked the flint wheel to draw it to flame, and touched the fire to the end of his cig.

"Wanna offer him this?" He said, dangling the lighter out to Amazonite. "Can tell him he can light his lanterns with it. Or I've got others. One flashes blue and looks like a lava lamp and s**t. Preeeetty cool if you ask me."
