▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Discovering a Preference Solo Class Choice - Prentice - WC 1528 (5pts)
“Miss Terrwyn, you are very skilled with the crossbow and the bow. Have you decided which you like the best?” Kise asked as he watched the young mistress draw back on the bow string.
Terrwyn pulled until the string was taut and all the way back but paused. Her light green eyes flicked to the side so that she could look at her head guard. He was one the few people she trusted to be around her at all times. She gave his words some thought before she looked forward again. Once her eyes were back on the target and she focused them on the center she took a deep breath then let it out slowly. She could feel her heartbeat pulsing through her entire body as she did this and the string gave a tremble with each beat. It was an interesting feeling. She waited for another three beats, getting her timing just right, then released.
The string snapped forward, wiggling with the force, and sent the arrow racing forward. To Terrwyn it was like slow motion. She saw the dust come off the string and watched the fetching on the back of the arrow wave in the wind. Then just like that, in a blink, the arrow was sticking out from dead center on the target. The end of it still swaying from the force of the stop it was made to endure.
“Nice shot.” Kise commented as he raised his brows. He’d had some doubts about the accuracy since the target was the farthest it had ever been.
“Mm..” Was the only response the young Kavensei made. She was busy squinting at the arrow.
She’d made the shot but was still somehow not pleased with it. Terrwyn took a deep breath in and turned her head to look at her guard. She regarded him for a moment before she shook her head slightly. It was the answer to his earlier question. Had she decided which weapon she liked better? No. Not in the slightest. The crossbow fit in her hand and was easy for her to reload. It also gave a bit of power she wasn’t able to provide with a regular bow. Not to mention sometimes she was more deadly with it on a hunt. However, the regular bow had it’s merits too. It provided her with upper body strength since she needed it to be able to pull the string back.
Her gaze went to the bow she currently had in her hand. If she really thought about it she liked the feel of a bow. It was more lightweight than a crossbow too.
“Your hand seems more at ease on a bow. Have you thought about a longbow versus a short bow?” Kise figured he’d ask.
Terrwyn wasn’t stupid by any means, and usually she thought things through, however the question posed to her by her guard made her raise both brows. She had not, in fact, considered this comparison. It might benefit her to figure out which one she preferred of the two. Since she liked the feel of a regular bow more than the heavy crossbow it could be nothing but beneficial.
“Garret has a long bow if you want to give that one a try. You have a short bow in your hands now.” Kise decided to point out. While he didn’t think she wasn’t aware of the fact he just wanted to supply her with the information to help out.
Terrwyn gave a small nod of her head, approval for him to call over the other member of their group.
“Garret!” Kise called out.
“Yes sir?” The other male responded almost immediately, thinking he’d done something wrong.
“Bring your long bow and come here.” The head guard looked at the younger male with a smile so that he’d know he wasn’t in trouble.
“Sir!” Garret grabbed his bow, and the arrows he carried with him in case he needed them, and jogged over to his boss and the young mistress they were to keep safe.
Terrwyn moved her eyes from Kise to the newcomer and then to the bow he carried. Instantly she took in the height of it as well as the probably weight. It would be more than the one she held but less than a crossbow. A nice middle ground most likely.
“Let Miss Terrwyn try your bow. I want to see if she prefers the longbow or short.” Kise finally said since it appeared that Terrwyn wasn’t going to say anything.
Garret looked confused for a moment before he nodded his head and turned toward Terrwyn. He held his bow out for her to take. “Here you go Miss Terrwyn.” He didn’t quite understand why it mattered since the girl was good with a crossbow as well but he wasn’t about to question it.
Terrwyn, for all her silence, took the longbow and handed Garret the short bow to hold instead. She couldn’t just toss it to the ground now could she? She moved it from one hand to the next, feeling the weight for herself. It wasn’t bad. Once she was comfortable with it she grabbed the string and pulled, testing the tensile strength needed to get it all the way back. It was a bit more than the short bow but that was because it had father back to go. She slowly brought it back forward instead of letting it snap then reached for an arrow.
Once it was knocked and ready to go she pulled back on the string again. This time raising the bow so that the arrow pointed upward. It gave her leverage needed to pull the string easier. Once she was halfway she lowered the bow and pointed the arrow at the target, now free of the previous arrow thanks to someone else in their group. She’d have to thank them later for the foresight of that.
She inhaled deeply then let it out slowly, feeling her heartbeat through her whole body. Again she waited for the span of three beats, getting the rhythm down, then released. The twang that followed as the string snapped forward was pleasing. Terrwyn’s light green eyes saw everything in slow motion at first and then a blink later and the arrow was so deeply embedded in the target that she gave a self satisfied smirk. Oh. She discovered which weapon she liked the most.
Kise noticed the smirk and gave a smile in response. “I see you found one you like more.”
Terrwyn gave a nod of her head in response. Indeed she had to admit that she leaned more in favor of the longbow. It felt better in her hands. It had a bit more power. She was able to control it fairly well. In all, Terrwyn would say she rather liked the new addition to her weapons. Well.. perhaps not this exact one but.
She turned her attention to Garret before she held the bow out to him. She had better return it before she became attached. When he reached out to take it from her she offered him a nod in thanks but still said nothing.
“Thanks Garret. Miss Terrwyn seems to have found a new favorite. We’ll need to look into the best longbow to get for her.” Kise commented.
“O-Oh, yeah. No problem.” He stared at Terrwyn for a moment longer, curious as to how the head guard always knew what the little miss was always thinking.
Knowing that his curiosity wouldn’t be sated he simply nodded his head at both of them then walked back over to join the rest of the group. He didn’t want to over stay his welcome since he knew Terrwyn got annoyed easily when someone tried to stick their nose into her business.
It took a full five minutes more before Terrwyn gave Kise her attention again.
“‘M thinkin’ ash.” Her voice came out soft and low.
Kise lifted one brow slightly. “Not oak?”
To answer she shook her head. If she got oak then the wood might not bend as easy. Of course she didn’t want too much give since it might not snap back. It was difficult to be sure.
“Ask a weaponsmith to be sure.” That was all the instructions she gave before she began stepping toward her tent. It wasn’t late but she didn’t see a point in staying out any longer. Clearly she wasn’t going to be practicing with her short bow or crossbow anymore.
Terrwyn did want to consider what to order from the weapons marker though. Obviously she wanted a longbow but she might also want to get new arrows made just for it. Perhaps made of the same wood. Maybe with different feathers for fletching. While she wasn’t one to really care about looks she did care about the practicality of her weapons while hunting. She wondered if Kinfa feathers would be better for flight and speed as opposed to Scorra feathers. That may be something else she’d have to ask the weaponsmith about just to be on the safer side of things. After all, nothing but the best for a Kavensei, right?

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Future Arrangements Quest - Prentice - WC 745
She had been told to meet Merle in the woman’s office. There was something important that needed to be discussed. Terrwyn had instantly went over everything in her mind trying to figure out what it could be. Had she messed up somewhere? No? Had she done something to make the woman upset? Well, that was a possibility. Terrwyn was hardly home these days. She was always hunting. Either to bring home the meat or to get the furs for their tannery. Or had someone opened their mouth about her new friend? If that was the case then Terrwyn was going to find out who and make them pay for it. Badly.
Still, no matter what the issue was, she was on her way to her stepmother’s office with a steady gait. Terrwyn never let her nerves show outwardly because she knew that they would be picked apart until she was ready to break. She’s learned that early on from watching what happened to her other siblings. When she reached the door she knocked firmly.
“Enter.” Came the short reply from Merle.
Terrwyn wasted no time in turning the knob and letting herself in. She said nothing as she stepped inside and then closed the door behind her. She didn’t wait to see if the woman would want her to do such since it was almost a given. With that done she turned to face Merle with a blank expression.
“You called for me.” Not a question but a statement.
“Yes.” Merle tapped her fingers on the desk in front of her as she sat back in her chair to stare at Terrwyn. Something about her gaze made it feel like she was physically trying to pick Terrwyn apart. “An offer has come in.” She started. “A marriage offer.”
The pause that followed was no doubt meant to see what her reaction would be but Terrwyn kept still and quiet. She didn’t want to tempt fate.
“Since your sister is doing her job in Jauhar and learning new dances so that she will expand her skill set, that offer falls to you as the second oldest daughter.” The last word was said with a bit of spite behind it.
Terrwyn felt her insides go cold. While she had suspected that Merle would eventually arrange for her and her older sister to be married off she hadn’t thought it would happen so soon. Outwardly she made sure to school her expression. “Am I allowed to know who the offer came from?” She chanced.
Merle glared at her for a solid minute before she decided to answer. “It came from another wealthy family in Tale. Their eldest son has finally decided to settle down. He’s eight and twenty summers, so it’s not too far from you.”
Terrwyn thought about that. The man she was to marry was twenty eight and she was only just turning eighteen. That made this man ten years her senior. While it wasn’t horrible it wasn’t exactly ideal either. So all she did was nod her head.
“His name is Finley. He will be here with his family be the weeks end to meet you and go over the final touches of the arrangement.” Merle made sure to keep her tone clipped and to the point. She wasn’t going to give Terrwyn room to disagree.
Little did she know that Terrwyn had no intention to. If the offer fell to her because Nii was out doing her thing then that was fine. It kept her older sister free for a little bit longer. And if Terrwyn had learned anything it was that she was a little bit tougher than her sister when it came to certain things. She kept her feelings to herself and Nii wore he heart on her sleeve. Not that there was anything wrong with that. It just made her an easier target.
“I understand.” She finally replied. “Did you need anything else from me?” She figured she’d try and find out if she was still needed or if she would be excused. Terrwyn wanted to get some things handled before the end of the week.
“You’re dismissed.” Merle waved a hand at her to shoo her out of the room.
Terrwyn took that as her leave and quickly made her exit. She headed down the hall and made a quick trek to her own room. If her future was truly set then she needed to write a letter or two.
(( Terrwyn is told of her future arranged marriage and accepts it without an argument. This puts her on the path in her own set of plans to ruin her stepmother's name. ))

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ The Event SOLO - Archer/Stage 2 - WC 1200 (3pts)
She stared at the dress that had been commissioned for her to wear on this day. It wasn't something she liked but it was certainly lady-like and pretty. Terrwyn wasn't going to complain or mention that the dress wasn't to her liking. If she did then someone might mistake that as her caring about what was going on. In reality she didn't care about today, the event taking place, or even the people involved in it. Getting married wasn't something she wanted to do or even celebrate at this moment. However, she knew that since Niiemh was away and getting her career going then it fell to her to step in.
Her sacrifice would help keep her other sisters out of the path of Merle, though she truly didn't need to worry about Fajra. Merle would never marry her own daughter off in such a way. The illegitimate ones sure.
Terr turned away from the dress to look at the rest of the room. It seemed normal like it was just another day. At least she didn't have to look at corny decorations in her own room. Before she could really take the time to enjoy the peace and quiet her door opened up and in came Koll to get her hair done up. A sigh escaped her but she didn't protest. Terrwyn knew that everything would be reported to Merle and she didn't want to deal with that woman today. It was going to be exhausting enough as it was.
She sat for her hair to be done. The pulling and tugging to get her hair into place was enough to give her a headache for sure. Still, she said nothing as the process went on. Pins were added. Oils to get it to cooperate and stay in place. Beads string though it to make it stand out. When she looked in the mirror to take a peek at what was being done she saw that the overall product was beautiful. You wouldn't be able to tell that her hair belonged to a hunter and not some high society lady. When Koll was done there was a self satisfied look on her face.
Terrwyn had to roll her eyes a little. It wasn't such a big thing really. It was just hair. Braid it back and put a flower in it and most guys were impressed. Still, she was thankful that Koll was finished pulling her hair.
After that came her makeup. Just what she wanted. To pain her face to look attractive to someone she didn't want anything to do with. But again, as with her hair, she said nothing and let them do their job. Terr chose to think of it as war paint. She needed something to comfort her into not simply giving in. She was no fan of having someone else tell her what to do. Its why she had spent most of her time out on hunts rather than inside with her step mother.
“Chin up.” Came the instruction for her to lift her face for Koll to see.
She did as she was told and moved her head up so that she was looking up at the ceiling. Terr refused to look at the person responsible for putting the stuff on her. It would just mean she’d have to see the colors being used and she didn’t rightly care. In truth she hoped they made her look like a jester. Perhaps then the groom to be would run away and leave her be. Unlikely but she was allowed to hope, right?
“Close your eyes.” The next set of instructions came, lacking emotion in the tone. It was all business.
Her eyes went closed and she sat still for the application of color. While she couldn’t tell the hue being used she could tell it was a cool powder being placed upon her lids. What would be next? Terr was not so familiar with the process of putting on makeup so she didn’t know what to expect really. She’d only ever seen her sister use it occasionally and even then it wasn’t much. At most Nii used a bit of lacquer for her lips to make them more noticeable.
“Done.” Koll set everything down, at least that’s what Terr heard her do.
When she opened her eyes she continued to stare at the ceiling. Did she want to look? She already knew what her hair looked like. Did she care about the state of her face? A deep breath was drawn in as she thought about it. Did she honestly care that she looked good? Not really. But this might well be the only time she got all dolled up in such a way. So she let the breath out slowly and lowered her head so that she could see what she looked like in the mirror again.
She was gorgeous.
It was almost unfair that she was made to look this pretty for someone she didn’t even care about. Why did they get to see her like this? It was likely the person meant for her would never see her in this state. She would never again be so dolled up, so gorgeous, and her person would miss out.
Tears gathered in her eyes at the thought of it all. Koll was quick to hand her a cloth to dab her eyes with so that she didn’t ruin her face. It would be such a shame to waste the effort. While she might not be on board with the whole event - this marriage that was a shame to her - she didn’t want to waste the efforts that had been put in on her behalf. Especially when the end result was so amazing.
“I know you look beautiful but try not to mess it up, yeah?” Koll told her. Though the tone used had taken on a bit softer note, almost like she was being sympathetic to the girl’s situation. Or at the very least her feelings.
Terrwyn nodded her head. She would make a herculean effort to not mess up the hard work that had been put into her appearance. She might not be girly or vain but she could appreciate the way she looked right now.
“Thank you.” She finally spoke to the woman responsible for getting her ready.
“Don’t mention it. I think you are the easiest project yet. Not too hard to make a gem out of a rock.” Koll laughed a little. “Its harder to make a gem more precious when they already shine.” She nodded at that. “Had it been your sisters, Niiemh or Fajra, then my job would have been much harder.”
She couldn’t disagree. Nii was beautiful without much effort. And Fajra was pretty in her young age. When she got older she would certainly shine. She and Aeylin were more of the rough and tumble type. The other one liked to fight and she liked to hunt. Being out in the woods for hours at a time, if not days, just to catch a beast or two. And she even did the gutting herself sometimes. So she could understand the comparison.
“You’re right.” She nodded.
