▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Soft Skies Solo - Prentice - WC 915 (3pts)
Tiam walked through the open field next to his home with his head tilted back so that he could look at the color of the sky and the clouds that floated along. It was a slightly greyish blue which meant that rain would be coming soon. Not a bad thing but the leafling hated when it rained. Especially if it was a hard rain. It made things less enjoyable; not just for him but everyone. Mud was slippery, got stuck to his shoes then tracked into the house, his grandmother certainly didn’t like that, and his poor mother would have to listen to the nagging. And someone would have to clean it up. Most likely his mother so she could avoid the lectures. Then there was also the endless excuses he heard via letter from his father about the weather and not being able to come see him.
In truth he didn’t understand why his father didn’t just let him travel on his own to come see him. Why did he always insist that he be the one to pick Tiam up. It wasn’t like he was the small child anymore. Granted he wasn’t a full adult yet either but he could take care of himself. Or if a chaperone was needed his mother could always walk him to the other town where his father and his other woman lived. Tiam hated her. The other woman that prevented his parents from being together. She got in the way of everything. No family holidays. No family trips.
Thinking about her caused him to become upset and he snatched a piece of the long grass as he walked by. Furrowing his brows together he frowned as he picked at the grass in his hands. He tore it apart bit by bit. Tiam still did not understand how his father could insist upon being with that woman even though he’d been with Syqvara. Clearly the two had chemistry, otherwise Tiam would not be there. A deep breath and he let it out in a huff. “Just don’t get it..” When he was younger he’d thought it had been his fault but really it wasn’t. It was that woman. “If she would just let my dad go then he could be happy with his best friend..” He was still of the mind that the two would be happier together than apart.
Not that it would change any time soon. His mother would never push the issue and his father was wrapped around another woman’s finger.
Seeing his mother like that made him angry though. He watched her be happy for a man she adored. She never took happiness for herself. Of course she claimed that he was her happiness but even that couldn’t be enough. Could it?
“I hate that he does this to mom all the time..” Tiam paused in his walk through the field to look around. He’d gone a bit farther than he’d intended to so he turned and headed back. Wandering off would do him no good if rain was coming. He certainly didn’t want to be caught out in it. “I don’t know mom has never found someone else.” He spoke out loud again, this time curious. Was it because she was waiting for Tiam’s father to come around or was it because she simply didn’t want to try again? “What are you thinking mom?” His eyes went toward the house as he asked the question.
Both his mother and grandmother were home. It was likely that his grandmother was nagging about something, as usual, and his mother had to listen to it. When he had been little his mother had always made sure to herd him into the other room or outside to play when his grandmother had gotten like that so that the elderly woman didn’t say mean things to him by accident. Tiam had started to notice it as he’d gotten older. Of course he understood that his grandmother didn’t mean it, she just liked to complain about everything. His toys being out, the outfit he wore didn’t match or had dirt on it when he came in from playing outside, something was always out of place to her. Another deep breath but this time it was a sigh. “Wish mom and I had our own house.” If they did then he wouldn’t have to see his poor mom stressed out all the time.
Maybe that was something that he could strive to get for her in the future. A house of her own. Somewhere she could be without someone else telling her what to do and how to do it. He loved his grandmother but sometimes she was just too picky and put all the responsibility on his mother. She was a single mom and spent a lot of energy making sure Tiam was taken care of so he didn't like when she had to do all the chores. He tried to do as much as he could to help out but sometimes he just couldn't. Like when he had to go to the next town over to train with his mentor for hours at a time.
"One day I'll make enough coin to buy mom her own place." He said to himself. It made a goal that he could strive for and it also meant he could pick the location. Maybe somewhere closer to where his dad was? Make it easier for him mom to see her best friend.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Class Choice Solo - Prentice - WC 641 (2pts)
Another letter had arrived and it held more excuses for why his father couldn’t come to see him or pick him up to take him along with the caravan. Not that Tiam cared to read it or know the reasons. This was the fourth one in as many months. It had been a long time since he’d seen his father and as far as he was concerned he didn’t care if he saw the man again or not. If Rhadamanthus wanted to avoid him and his mother all because of pitiful excuses or because the other woman said so then he wasn’t worth the time.
Of course that meant he no longer held the wish to be a guard like his father was. That dream had been strong when he was younger, he thought it was awesome to be a guard then. It had lost its luster over the years and now it was completely gone. Tiam honestly didn’t think being a caravan guard was a bad thing he simply didn’t want to do or be anything like his father. If it were possible Tiam wished he could claim someone else as his dad. He doubted very much that his mother would allow that though.
So if he didn’t want to follow in his father’s footsteps what did he want to do? He didn’t have the magical abilities his mother had. He wouldn’t make a good summoner. Not by a long shot. That didn’t mean he didn’t have some talent in the magic department. Tiam had noticed a bit here and there but never really messed with it. Although, now that he thought about it, being more like his mother would be perfect. It would show that he was more hers than Rhadamanthus’. A good way to rub it in the man’s face for sure.
But if he couldn’t make it as a summoner what did that leave him? As he lay on his bed in his room with the door closed he stared up at the ceiling and really thought about it. He knew his mother used a staff to help her with her magic. He used to play with it a lot when he had been little. The crystals on the end had never reacted to him the way they did to Syqvara, it was what made him believe he was no good with magic. But now that he really put some thought into it he knew there were others that used different tools for magic. Some in the village used rune stones. He didn’t think a bunch of stones would help him either. If crystals didn’t react to him then it wasn’t likely the runes would either.
Tiam shifted so that his hands came up and settled beneath his head, adding some height on top of his pillow. There were travelers that used books. He was never the booky type though. At least, he didn’t spend hours at a time with his nose buried in one. Not that there was anything wrong with reading, he simply didn’t enjoy doing it for hours on end.
That left him with the beads. Not a bad fit for him. So long as he could get them to react with his inner magic then he should be fine. Tiam smiled as he thought more about it. Was there anyone in the village like that? If so then he could likely ask them to be his mentor, or at the very least ask them to give him some pointers on how to go about things. He could help people with his abilities, be more like his mother, and still enjoy life. The boy seemed perfectly alright with this.
“Its settled then. I’ll see about getting a set of beads and a mentor.” What was that called again? “A soul linker?” Something like that.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Things - to - Pack Quest - Prentice - WC 564
Tiam came home with a large grin on his face. He’s gotten the official invite from his mentor to stay with them for a few months. They had an empty room that Tiam could use while he learned. It would cut back on travel time and he wouldn’t need to lug all of his supplies from one town to the next. They would be right there within reach and no back pain to deal with!
Thankfully he’d found his mother on his way home, since she was on her way to the market, and had told her the good news. His mother had been happy for him and even agreed that this was a good opportunity for him. She’d given her blessing for it and told him to make sure he packed everything he needed. Granted he was only one town over but she didn’t want him to be without anything.
So now he was looking around his room trying to figure out what was an absolute need and what wasn’t. Of course he wanted his blankets with him. Taim went instantly to the bed and ripped the covers off it so that he could start to fold them up. Clothes too! He’d need a change of clothes. Well, more than just one. So when the blanket was a neat square he placed it on the bed and went to his wardrobe and began rifling through it to find the clothes he really wanted with him. Nothing fancy, he didn’t think patients would care if he looked fancy, but he did want to look professional. Like he knew what he was doing.
So he made sure to grab some of his better looking shirts instead of the simple, stained up shirts that he had for around the house and doing chores. He did the same for pants, making sure they had no holes and were stain free. All in all he managed to get about six different outfits that he could take with him. It meant he’d be doing laundry more often than he normally did but that was fine with him really.
After that he paused to look around his room to see what else he could possibly need to take with him. Then his green eyes landed on his notebooks.
“Oh yeah!” He exclaimed.
He’d need to take those with him since he kept extensive notes on illnesses and how best to treat them. It helped to refresh him mind when he went back and reread them. It made sense to him to be aware of what symptoms were associated to what and which herbs worked best. That way he didn’t have to waste time trying to look them up if he already remembered.
“Hmn, now what else will I need?”
He was already planning on taking all of his healing supplies. Bandage wraps, salves, herbs, and the suture kit he had in case someone had a deep wound that needed stitched up. So that meant he didn’t really need much else. Anything farther he was sure he could come back for or simply write home and have his mother bring it by. Or buy it if he was really desperate for it.
“Now to put it all in a bag!” Tiam instantly got to work. He was far too excited to wait. He wanted to be ready to go right away!
(( Tiam is finally getting taken on in a more serious role as a healer and is moving into the spare room that his mentor has available. ))
