Ika wasn't so sure about Tale, but her mother had insisted upon it when her grandfather returned to the continent. She'd wanted the whole family there to meet him, and more importantly, the three toddlers he'd brought over. It was definitely strange to see them; they looked....strange, even by hybrid standards and knowing that her grandfather's girlfriend was barely older than Eurig made Ika's lip curl.
So, instead of hanging around and playing nice like she should have Ika went out into the 'wild'. It was hardly outside of the village limits, but it was close enough to a 'jungle' as she was going to find in Tale. She wandered through the tall, candy colored grass, popping pieces of honey candy in her mouth as she went.

It was that time again. Tiam was away from his mother and spending time with his dad and the woman his dad was with. He still refused to give her a title or even say her name. She wasn't his mother and he resented her for being in the way. In another day or two his dad would take him out with him as the caravan traveled. For now Tiam was able to wander around mostly unhindered.
As he walked he snacked on a homemade treat his mother had packed for him. It was a gooey mess of oats and sugar but he loved it. He was busily chewing on his second bite when he noticed someone walking through the grass. Not so unusual except he swore he saw markings. They didn't look too much older than he was and he didn't think he could have tattoos yet. So Tiam stared.

Popping another candy in her mouth, Ika mused about her familial situation. Maybe if she just stayed out here then they wouldn't notice she was gone and - Turning around she noticed a child, all alone, and just...staring. Her ears flickered, bright green eyes narrowing a bit. Was it because of her height?
"What'cha lookin' at, runt?" Ika took a half step towards him, lowering her sack of goodies as she did so. Was he one of the kids from the village? It would explain why he was out here, but not the way he was looking at her. "Never seen a girl before?"

When she turned and noticed that he was starting Tiam straightened and looked away quickly as if he was trying to avoid being caught. It was too late for that. He looked back at the girl when she asked him the last question and turned a bit pink in the cheeks. "N-No. I mean yes but.. you have tattoos on your face." He looked down as he said it, feeling rude for pointing it out. After a small kick to the ground and an awkward cough he would look back up at her. "Never seen someone with them up there." His own mother had tattoos but they were on her shoulder.

Tattoos? Ika furrowed her brows further in confusion until it finally dawned on her. "These?" She raised her finger to the marks under her eyes, "They aren't tattoos; they're markings. I'm half alkidike." Other than her height they were really the only defining feature Ika had of her Alk heritage. Her hair may have been dark, but that was easily passed off.
He was definitely an awkward kid, but in a way they all were. It was why Ika tried not to spend too much time around them. "You live around here, right? You aren't...lost or something, right?" If he was then she'd have to help him out which would really cut into her teenage brooding time.

Markings? Tiam leaned his head to the right a bit as he looked a bit more. When she said Alkidike he understood then. "Oh! But you aren't.." He'd about to say she wasn't yellow but thought it would be rude to point that out. So he kept that to himself. When she asked him if he lived around the area he gave a quick glance. "Uh.. not really." He wasn't sure how to explain that one without getting into complicated things. So he kept it simple. "My dad lives here." A lift of his shoulders said he wasn't all that happy or impressed with it. Bringing his gaze back to her he offered a smile. "What about you? You just move here?" As he spoke to her he brought another bite of his gooey sugared oats to his mouth. As an after thought he lifted the small bag the rest was in. "Want some? My mom made it."

"Aren't what?" Her tone may not have been overly sharp, but her gaze certainly was. She knew full well that she didn't look the part, but she'd been teased enough about it by full-blooded alk to fight back against it. Granted, she wasn't prepared to go into a row with a kid, but she certainly wasn't going to take sass for it either. "Forget it." Shaking it off, Ika popped another candy into her mouth and sucked on it, content with drowning out her irrational in sugar.
His dad? Well, that sounded familiar. He was almost like a little Eurig. And that...might have softened her up a little bit. When he smiled she couldn't help sighing a little. It really was hard to stay irritated at kids. "I'm here to visit my grandfather." Anything more would just go right over his head. Looking at the bag caused Ika to lift her own in return. "Let's swap. I'll try one of yours if you want to try one of mine."

He looked a little frightened by her look and looked down, the red color going from his ears to his cheeks. "I don't mean to be rude, you just.. you're not yellow. I've never seen one before but I always heard that Alkidikes were yellow." When she said to forget it he nodded his head and turned his head to the side. It wasn't until she explained why she was there that he looked back. From there he offered a smile. Tiam looked at her bag of treats then nodded. "Sure." He took a few steps closer and held his bag in the palm of his hand so that the opening was easier for her to get into.

Pure ones are. They've got antennae, green hands and big black eyes. All of which she had exactly zero of. The alkidike blood was more obvious in her brother than in her, but out of the two Ika liked to think she followed their teachings a little more closely. Still, she didn't mention any of it; there wasn't any real point in talking about it now.
Taking a bit of his goodies in hand, Ika flipped it over, wondering exactly what it was. The texture was gooey and...were those oats? Plopping a bite into her mouth she let the sweet textured snack practically melt before chewing up the remains with a pleasant little smile. "It's pretty good. You said your mom made it?"

He smiled as she reached in and took some of his treat for herself. Tiam watched her closely to make sure she liked it. While it wouldn't hurt his feelings if she didn't he would hate for her to eat something that tasted bad. Being raised by his mother primarily left him with a more caring personality. Seeing that she seemed to like it he lit up a little. "Mhm. She makes it special for me around this time of year." It was his favorite treat but he didn't get it all the time. He looked at her bag of goodies and pointed softly at it. "May I?" Even though she'd offered he still felt the need to ask before he stuffed his hand in.

"Oh, yeah, go for it." She opened the pouch a little wider and held it out. "Mine aren't as special; I just bought them in town. I think they're seasonal?" They were just hardened balls of honey, anyway. They weren't nearly as personal as something made by a mother, but she thought they were pretty tasty anyway.
It was something that would keep if she decided to buy some and bring them back to Jauhar. Inevitably she imagined she would; if for nothing else than to share with her twin. He may not have liked the idea of traveling all that much, but maybe he wouldn't mind it if he knew what kind of snacks they had.

With the go ahead given and the bag opened more for him he reached in and took one of the sweets. Even though she said she only bought them in town he was still happy to try. Tiam popped the candy into his mouth and rolled it around some. He savored the flavor before he bit into it and gave her a big smile. A nod of his head was his approval until he was able to speak. He wouldn't talk with his mouth full. "Its really good. I might ask my dad to buy some. I think my mom will like them." Tiam always made his dad buy things that he thought his mom would like. "I'll have to tell him my new friend said they were good."

Synching the satchel closed, Ika slipped it into a pouch at her hip and made sure it was good for travel. There weren't many left at that point, which meant she'd definitely have to buy plenty just for the rest of her trip her in Tale, let alone what she wanted to bring home.
"Yeah, I'm sure your dad would love you talking with strangers." Smiling a little, Ika popped the rest of the gooey oat mixture into her mouth. Once she had it chewed up and swallowed she looked up at the sky, frowning a little when she noticed it was starting to get dark. "I'm going to head back now; you good to go home?"

He shrugged his shoulders at the strangers bit. "My name is Tiam. Now I'm not a stranger." He grinned. "Besides, he takes me with him when he guards the caravans and I meet new people all the time." Tiam didn't believe in strangers anyways. Even friends start out that way. When she asked if he was good to go home he looked up at the sky. "Yeah, I know my way around. I won't go back to my dad's for a while though. I don't like being there.." Not with the lady there.

"My name's Ika." Guards caravans? What kind of job did his dad have?
Seeing the way his demeanor seemed to change and the way he looked up at the sky made her frown. Should she really leave him like this? It wasn't like it was going to hurt to stay out for a little longer, right? "I guess I could stay a little longer...if we move towards the village. No one should be this far out at night." Especially not some kid. It would have been one thing if she'd had a weapon, but like this...it was just too risky.
I don't like being there. What did that even mean? Was he being treated bad?
