Kit Paine - Captain James Hook - Rooftop

Kit's long, blue coat flared out in his wake as he made his way to a princess dressed in yards of white tulle. Events like these were what he lived for because what better way to meet people than at social gatherings? The fact that it was a Halloween party was an added plus because costumes and masks added a whole new dimension to the facets of people and their personalities.

While some might have believed a mask hid their true identity, Kit saw it as them wearing more information about themselves. Why had they chosen to wear what they wore? What did it mean to them? Someone who wanted to cover up might have believed themselves mysterious, but the fact that they covered up in itself was insight into their true intentions.

For all the things he could try to discern simply by observing people, though, it was nothing compared to directly interacting with them. That was why he had chosen to approach the young lady standing alone off to one side, intrigued. "Good evening, mi'lday," he said, removing the tricorner had from his head to place over his heart as he swept his coat in an elegant bow. "Are you here by yourself?"

Penelope Rey - Cinderella - Rooftop w/ Kit

Blue eyes had been sweeping across the crowd that had begun to gather, taking in all of the various costumes and she played a nice, quiet game of trying to pinpoint whom she might recognize. There was a man, who she recognized from the mess that was Anthemusa, in a superhero costume she only vaguely recognized and a matching pair from Game of Thrones.

Wait.

Wait, was that -

She didn't have a moment to finish that thought when someone had approached her in a classic Hook costume. While she appreciated his efforts, she couldn't help but have wished that he'd donned the attire of Killian Hook. Still, he was pleasant enough and was smart enough to direct his attention to her. She liked that, but Penelope had always liked attention.

"Ah, see," Penelope began, a warm and slightly too sweet smile gracing her lips. "I might've have started out that way, but I'm clearly no longer alone. Seems a dashing pirate wanted to accompany the princess."

Delphine Rousseau - Daenyres Targaryen - Rooftop

So they were playing nicely.

The cool look thawed, pale painted lips twitching into the shadow of a smile as she brought the glass up to hold it in a delicate grip close to her chest. "Silver tongued, as always, Lazarus. Thank you." They were nothing but empty, pretty words, but the dancer would take them anyways, because she knew them to be true. Not that Laz wasn't worth a look or two, especially shirtless. unfortunately, the dancer had seen behind the professional, flattering mask to the man beneath, and the packaging just didn't fit the contents anymore. It was such a shame.

She shook her head at his question, silver curls sliding along her shoulders, and took another small sip before answering. "No, not really. I've only seen a few episodes, and I'm not sure it's for me." The tip of one nail tapped against the side of her glass. "The costume was Colin's idea. Originally he'd suggested some comic book character, but her attire had run high to vinyl, body suits, and extreme 'v' cuts." And she had quite enough of that already, thank you very much. Her nose twitched, pale flesh wrinkling in distaste before smoothing again.

"Originally I'd considered simply attending as Odette, but it was pointed out to me that that really wasn't much of a costume for me, all things considered." In truth, the long, white dress was not only comfortable, but incredibly elegant, and surprisingly modest from what she knew of the show, the books, and the characters themselves.

Head tilting gently to one side in consideration, the dancer reached out touch a bit dark leather at his side. "And you? Do you watch the show?"

Preoccupied, Delphine didn't notice the familiar looking blonde in the Cinderella costume. Yet.

Kit Paine - Captain James Hook - Rooftop with Penelope

Kit replaced his hat on his head as he straightened back up, smiling cordially. "I see," he said, dipping his head lightly in acknowledgement. "Well if said princess is so kind as to allow the company of a dastardly pirate in her presence, I am honored. I couldn't help but notice, however, that your eyes were wandering elsewhere, Your Highness," Kit commented, holding his hand and hook behind his back as he looked toward the pair from the Game of Thrones. "Was there somewhere, specifically, you would like to be accompanied? It would be my pleasure and privilege to do so."

Kit knew far too much about Captain Hook, Neverland, and all other things relating to Peter Pan thanks to his younger sister's obsession. He was well aware of Killian Jones from Once Upon a Time, including just how vehemently Tymiko detested him. She had given him far more examples than he would have cared to know as to why he was nothing compared to the original J. M. Barrie's Captain James Hook, and while he did respect her opinions, Kit had his own reasons for having picked a more classic version of the pirate to portray.

One thing, for example, was that Killian Jones - like Disney's animated Hook - had his hook on the left hand while the original Hook's hook was supposed to be on his right. Kit was right-handed, but that made him believe it was that much more of an interesting challenge to try to put himself in Hook's shoes for the evening as the people who posed as Disney's OUAT and animated Hooks could not.

Another thing was that while those two Hooks left a great deal to be desired manners-wise, Kit recalled that the original James Hook had attended the famous Eton College in England - the same college that James Bond had supposedly attended as well as many other famous people, both fictional and non-fictional alike. Because of that, supposedly James had more intelligence and gentlemanly mannerisms than most pirates or villains were thought to possess and, indeed, than most people realized Hook had.

Because many depictions of Captain Hook often seemed to omit this aspect of his nature, Kit felt it his duty (and out of tribute to his sister despite her not being there) to represent that side of him which most had overlooked or not realized. He reigned in his usual casual demeanor for the night to replace it with calm politeness, amused to recall that supposedly Hook was most polite when he was most angry.

Penelope Rey - Cinderella - Rooftop w/ Kit

"Hm?" Penelope looked up at her daring Hook, an eyebrow lifting as her lips pursed together playfully. "Ah, no need to lead me anywhere Mr. Hook." Penelope made it a point to gingerly rest the tips of her fingers on his bicep, letting them trail down until the pressed against his palm. "I have better things to direct my attention to."

Her blue eyes did, however, flicker over towards the game of thrones pair when he looked too. "As long as we're not leaving the party, I'm inclined to let you lead me nearly anywhere." Penelope said, batting her lashes and keeping her tone light and flirty.

She was excellent at flirting and Hook, despite his internal monologue about which Hook was best (she only like Killian because he was, well, terribly attractive), made it easy. As long as it was just the two of them, his attention wouldn't be on anyone but her and she preferred it like that, even if she just wanted to be the center of attention. "I know pirates have a tendency to try and run off with the princess, but we could save that hypothetically for later?"

She was too curious about who else might surface.

Stroud Marinus - Jadis - First Floor

Holiday seasons heralded parties and heights of some sorts of entertainment. The Boon of the Ballet parties was the bodies on offer more than the booze. It was a 'free' event, which meant that the bar that was rented would be middle grade- good enough to keep face, but not fitting for the tastes of the discerning.

It was a problem easily remedied. Stroud parted small gather of the crowd with an attaché who got to carry the box and bag while looking for Rene among the greeters. Early on means smiles with the lights and the cameras.

"Rene!" It was purred on sighting, but at volume and tone to cut through the excited persons here and there. A motion to associate brought the hand-made artisan paper bag forward for presenting. "You saw the 2016 awards, I don't doubt, and I expect with the season upon us you've not had time to find any. Reference Series III.2, from my taste to yours. "

An exchange of social air kiss. "And a box for upstairs, assorted. You don't mind, the B.Y.O.B., do you? There's enough for many mouths. "

Quenton Marinus - Presence Robot - Rooftop

The only associations he'd had with the top of Colin's Company's roof had been one confrontational with said friend. The rest of the times he'd been to the buildings was the visits for figure drawing, and that in the practice halls from the vantage of the floor near the piano or in the corner opposite. there was not usually such a profusion of festive decorations. Nor so many people just around and not actively dancing, practice dancing, stretching for dancing, or drinking water while limping away from dancing to one of the trainers' offices. The effect was one that Dancers as a demographic weren't given to doing else- things like empty socialization, drinking alcohol, or bobbing for apples.

Things Quenton wasn't much given over to himself.
Colin had asked him there. I don't want to talk to drunk people about empty subjects like the weather. This is going to be tragically boring. I can do this. I can stay one hour, and then I can leave. Say 'hi' to show your support, get a tea or something. Sit. Star at the stars or something. There's nothing to pet here.

He paused, stepping aside the door and flow of people entering or exiting to take in each of the couches one by one, then the swing- And there he is, already making fast friends with whoever-how-many. Not a bad Steve Rogers. Did others of the company come as the rest of the Avengers?

Itsa Sekret - TRex - Rooftop

A very large TRex lurked over to a darker corner of the roof, just outside the heated ambiance of one of the heating units. It seemed placid and inflated plastic, unlikely to attack anyone Jurassic Park style. It looked out sometimes at the city lights, other times it seemed to glance sidelong at the other party-goers.

Morgan Keaton - Jaws - First Floor

Halloween sounded pretty cool. No powers to punch through walls or leap tall buildings at a single bound like the blokes in the sparkle unitards that they all were usually, but a great opportunity for everyone to put on a different face and go be magical. Or Mechanical. Or tyrannical. Botanical. Animal...

Morgan ran out and left the thought to meander as it would across the parking lot. Migrating to the gold marquee light and shifting colors and voices. Took some pictures to send off to Bus on a regular cell phone. Double checked that there was plenty of space in a shark-shaped hand bag for stashing extra stolen snacks. Can you steal free snacks?

If luck served, there'd be socialites there to chill and take names, which was exactly the sort of thing to do for making connections in order to get on the short list for hiring contracts if any pictures came to the city for filming, or small game start ups needing mo-cap of stunts and found the friend-of-a-friend through their investors. Morgan put on a big smile and started asking around here and there to capture the best costumes and talk to people about how they made them, or where they bought them.

Compliments best served like sharks teeth!

Alex Gramme - Jyn Erso - Rooftop

Why was she here again? Alex never socialized with anyone outside of class, ever. It was almost more surprising she was part of the company than anything. Usually giant burn scars impeded that sort of thing, but apparrently also being a magical girl helped with that...? Alex stopped questioning most things these days, except social gatherings she some how ended up in.

Oh, right, booze. They brought booze.

Alex, who had created a semi-accurate replica of Jyn Erso' rebel outfit from the upcoming Star Wars movie, swished a bottle of beer in her hand and attempted to not look completely out of place. The T-rex was different (she wondered how he got up the stairs to begin with in that suit), but everyone else seemed sensible in their costume choices.

And everyone was still dressed.

For now.

Kit Paine - Captain James Hook - Rooftop with Penelope

"That's 'Captain', if you please," Kit said with a soft smile, though he supposed he deserved the lack of a title for having called the princess 'mi'lady' at first. His gaze fell to her fingertips on his bicep and followed them to his hand which he slowly retrieved from behind his back, curious as to her intentions. "Indeed?"

Had he not been in costume or character, he was certain he would have reacted a great deal more crassly, especially because he was usually the one intimately touching strangers and not the other way around. This situation, however, called for a more refined reproach and he took a couple of deep breaths through his nose to recompose himself, his look of polite interest unfaltering.

"Your Majesty, as well-intentioned as I'm sure you are, I'll confess I have concerns for your well-being if you're so readily willing to follow a stranger, much less a pirate, anywhere. And that is to say nothing of your admittance to such willingness." He tilted his head slightly as he appraised her. "What if I were some dastardly villain attempting to use and manipulate you toward my own ends?"

At her comment about pirates running off with princesses, he laughed aloud. "My dear, you wound me. I'm afraid I was never aware of such tendencies. The most I've heard of was princesses being used for ransom or leverage, but what self-respecting princess would willingly run off with a bandit of the sea such as I?"

He extended his arm with a flourishing gesture. "I may have been the bo'sun of Blackbeard and the only man Long John Silver ever feared, but first and foremost, I am a gentlemen - English born and bred, educated at the renowned Eton College. I would never even entertain the idea of running off with anyone against their will; least of all a royal." Nevermind that James Hook was rumored to have been the b*****d child of British royalty himself.

"But enough about me..." He gently clasped the hand that had touched his palm before bringing its fingers to his lips, his eyes - both with Forget-Me-Not Blue contacts for the sake of his character - never leaving her own. "What about you?"

Seth Volkov - Guy of Gisborne (from Robin Hood) - first floor, pestering Morgan

Somewhere on the first floor, a man dressed all in black lounged gracefully back against a wall near to the stairwell. There was a glass of bourbon in his hand, but it was mostly untouched; Seth had taken one sip of it, only to recoil at the crass, unappealing taste of it, and now only held it out of habit. It dangled from the tips of his long fingers, loose and lazy, as was the rest of him.

He had never actually been to the DCBC studio, in spite of all the money he had poured into it over the last little while. Seth was, ironically, a fan of the arts - when they were good, for that matter. The DCBC was nothing on the Russian ballet that he had grown up with, but it had its merits all the same, he supposed.

It was a tedious affair, attending the party, but at least it gave him something to do. His eyes fell upon a figure nearby, Seth's brows raising curiously, gaze raking down the strange attire.

"Vat are you supposed to be?" he asked loftily, head tilted back against the wall.

Auguste Atwell - butterfly - rooftop, talking to Colin, then Delphine / Laz

It had been a while since Auguste had done anything with the DCBC, and he had missed it terribly. His volunteering hours had diminished into nothing, mostly because his own dance schedule had picked up and rehearsals were daily, leading into the night, and left little time for anything else. But the company and the studio were familiar and warm, and he passed small smiles to the workers he recognized, Auguste making his way up to the rooftop.

Colin was, of course, already surrounded by people. Auguste shifted quietly through the milling people until he reached the danseur, pressing a hand to his shoulder and stretching up onto his slipper-clad tiptoes to press a warm, affectionate kiss to his cheek.

"Just letting you know I'm here," he said with a smile, and squeezed Colin's hand before slipping away again, wondering if there would be something to drink nearby. He sidestepped someone dressed as a monkey and knocked unintentionally into a young woman in a light gown, Auguste's gaze flickering up to her face.

"Oh, Delphine," he said, face alighting at the sight of her. "Hello."

Penelope Rey - Cinderella - Rooftop w/ Kit

A blonde brow arched when he requested a more formal title and her flirty smile slipped into something demure. She hadn't missed the way his eyes had followed the movement of her hand, nor had she missed the slight slip of composure. Interesting, Penelope thought and she dared to step a little closer so that she was almost in the pirate's space but not quite.

"Are you worried that I'm not capable of defending myself if I must? Because I assure you, Captain, that I am quite capable." Penelope was only as weak or vulnerable as she felt like portraying herself. A wolf in princess's clothing if you would. "Who's to say that this princess hasn't grown bored of her castle and isn't seeking a life of risk and adventure? I maybe be no Wendy, but that doesn't mean I don't see the beginning a possible adventure unappealing."

Her words were more formal than normal, but if her companion was going to latch so tightly to his role, then she would uphold her own. "Doesn't such manners keep you from the true natures of one called pirate?" Penelope was, certainly, enjoying the gentlemanly aspect of her mysterious Hook and her smile widened as he lifted her hand and pressed his mouth against her fingertips. "You flatter me dear Captain. I'm afraid I'm rather boring, a princess of circumstance and potentially limited time. A fairy told me that the magic might run out when the clock strikes midnight. But who's to say?" She waved a hand in the air nonchalantly.

Florianne Mitchell - Angel - Heading down to the first floor

Florianne hummed to herself as she sat on one of the couches. She looked around as the roof top got more people. Yup, the roof was the go to place for everyone except for the few who liked being indoors. She pondered over something. She stood up and decided to head to the first floor to grab some refreshments. As she left the cold air of the rooftop another slight shiver went through her as she walked into the warmth of the building.

She looked around at all the people milling and muttered an excuse me or a pardon me as she approached the table with the refreshments. At the same time making sure her wings didn't hit someone on her way to the table.

Kit Paine - Captain James Hook - Rooftop with Penelope

"Is that so?" he asked when the princess assured him she was capable of defending herself. "Would that be physically or mentally? Though I can't deny there's an allure to a more dangerous lifestyle, particularly when the only other one known has been comprised of nothing but strict discipline and formalities." He snorted at the mention of Wendy and allowed himself a grin. "Fair enough. But certainly a princess as lovely and courageous as yourself already has a handsome prince charming waiting for her somewhere, would she not?"

Kit laughed lightly at her question about his manners. "Certainly not," he chuckled, waving his hand in a dismissive gesture. "While I do have a higher education than most in my profession, I turned to this life for the same reason you just mentioned - the appeal of adventure, not to mention freedom. That's why I can relate to wanting to escape the suffocating confines, traditions, and demands of higher society."

He shrugged with a helpless little smile. "I'll admit it can be difficult when my morals as a gentleman and my goals a pirate conflict, however. It's tricky trying to determine what's good form from bad when your under-age opponent has no respect nor even recognition for the differentiation, cheating and playing dirty at every possible opportunity."

His brows rose as he comprehended the meaning behind her description of herself as a princess and he grinned again - a full, wicked one this time. "Let me amend my previous statement. Lovely, courageous, and witty. But after all this talk, you must be parched. Would you care to accompany me to the refreshments table, or shall I fetch you something here?" He nodded toward the Game of Thrones couple. "You could meet your...less frivolous friends yonder in the meantime, if you so desired."

Nuxaz
((Ahhh, that would explain it. XD A lot of people thought he was attractive at first (and his fans called themselves 'Hook-ers'), but he turned out to be a selfish creep and a stalker to one of the main characters and people weren't so fond of him anymore. But I stopped watching after the third season because of what they did to Peter Pan. It was painful to even make myself watch that far in the first place, but I had to because I wanted to compare it to other versions of Peter Pan. Honestly, I'm amazed OUAT is still going. My brother still likes to laugh about how they said 'pixie dust is like nuclear fairy dust', especially since when last I checked, they don't even have pixies in that show.))

Penelope Rey - Cinderella - Rooftop w/ Kit

"Why limit myself to one or the other?" Penelope challenged with lips pressed together to hide her smile. For having just met the man, she was enjoying the banter that passed between them and she wondered what he was like beneath the costume. Was he as much of a gentleman as he was acting, or was he someone that liked to push and push and push?

Either way could be relevant to her interests.

"What are children except young ones still struggling to navigate waters that even their elders don't quite understand?" She posed the question with a slight shrug. Blonde curls shifted across her exposed collarbones. "Perhaps I have a prince, but who's to say I have to be limited to one? Or perhaps I have a princess in another castle, it's terrible hard to say."

Penelope winked at him, her voice light and playful. "Of course, who's to say there has to be a pre-existing prince? Isn't that what balls are for?" She neither gave nor denied the existence of anyone in her life that could, or would, constitute as prince.

"I would take pleasure in accompanying you Captain. Those friends are but mere acquaintances. At least the young queen in the making. Her companion is not someone I recognize." He hadn't been at the festival or if he had, she'd passed out before ever seeing him. "We could greet them together."

Colin Hargrove - Captain America - Rooftop

"That's the best part of costumes though, you don't have to be anyone, you can be a character or you can just be a really cool, mysterious whatever." He chuckled and gestured with one hand; sure, he was dressed up as a particular character, but he rather thought that it was easier to go as an established character in some ways and really - his choice in costume was kind of lazy: he'd had the Captain America costume for some time now.

"Oh, you ladies should absolutely head down and dance. We've got a fantastic DJ on hand tonight." Colin would probably stay on the roof for some time yet, mixing and mingling with people - but eventually he'd end up on the dance floor. It was inevitable, really. "Hello, Angel." Colin grinned and raised his drink to the newcomer, even as his eyes picked out several familiar faces joining the group on the rooftop. Lazarus and Delphine, who seemed to enjoy casting disparaging looks at each other, and Quenton and even Auguste!

For each person he knew, there came another that he hadn't yet made friends with, which was fantastical and also exciting. Auguste came over and got a soft kiss of greeting from Colin. "Have fun tonight, darling. I'm glad you could make it~" His eyes sought out Quenton - who he knew was only in attendance as a favor to himself - and he waved him over. "Quenton! Get over here you beautiful creature! Come meet my new friends, Lily and Accalia!" He would have asked after the girl in the angel costume's name, but she'd already headed back inside - he'd just have to catch her later!

Quote:

Ian St.George - Jareth the Goblin King - 1st Floor

Ian came by slightly later than the very start of the party, mostly so that he wouldn't have to engage with Colin one-on-one. He arrived shortly after a rather statuesque woman dressed as the White Witch accosted someone Important looking. He knew he ought to make his way upstairs, but knew that his cousin would be in the thick of things and he was avoiding seeing that idiot as long as possible.

There were several interesting looking people milling about anyway and wasn't that Stroud Marinus? She had the look of her cousin, Colin's too-smart-for-his-own-good artist friend, and was making nice with someone he knew to be one of the owners of the ballet. Interesting. And she brings gifts, most excellent. Perhaps the liquor available wouldn't all be swill, after all.

Quote:
Ian is open for interaction!

[NPC] Rene Kinney - 10th Doctor - First Floor

Greeting those newly come to the party was not Rene's forte, but they remained graciously because it was both expected and also afforded the ability to speak with those patrons of the arts now long acquainted with the ballet. Stroud's clear voice cut through the hum and had Rene turning with a smile to face the elegantly costumed woman. "Stroud! So pleased you could make it." Rene accepted the gift, with pleasure and a sly look, "Ah, but you do have the best taste my dear, thank you."

The social graces covered, Rene chuckled. "Of course, you're always welcome to improve a party as you do." A mental note was made to send over a formal invitation to Stroud for a bit of a private meeting sometime the next week - she was an honored guest and both owners were quite fond of the pipe-smoking Marinii.

"Please, enjoy the evening's festivities."

Orah Gowan - Wonder Woman - First Floor

The invitation had come as something of a surprise, and at first, it had seemed like utterly bad timing. After everything that had happened, everything she was dealing with, it didn't seem like a good idea to go to a party, of all things. Too many people, too much noise, too much everything... but the more Orah considered it, the more it felt... normal.

It was a comfortable sort of normal to go out with friends on Halloween. There would be a lot of people there, but they'd be just people, having fun, unaware of everything she had been dealing with. They wouldn't know what had happened to her, they wouldn't look at her with that sad, loving, disbelieving look she had been getting so much. On top of it all, she'd be out of the house and among people, which was about as far removed from solitary confinement in a six by six crystal box as one could get.

In the end, she'd told Laney she wanted to go, because she wanted to see her friends and do something fun. She hadn't told her family about it, but then, she had been trying to extricate herself from their overwhelming, suffocating attentions as much as possible. Never letting her out of their sight seemed like a requirement for having her miraculously back from the dead and that, more than anything, triggered a deep feeling of claustrophobia.

Picking a costume had been a trial. She'd spent too long looking through everything at the store, even though something had caught her eye almost immediately. She'd dithered forever before she'd finally given in and got the Wonder Woman costume. There was a skirt that wasn't too short, the top came up high enough to satisfy her, and yet it was all... rather bold, for what she was used to wearing. She felt... stronger, when she walked into the DCBC with it on. Almost strong enough to ignore how her short hair brushed against her neck and the way she knew her cheek and collarbones still stood out too much, even after her trip to Ida. She could almost forget the tiny scars on her fingers.

A scan of the first floor as she straightened her cape revealed a throng of people already, among them a Goblin king, a man in black talking to a shark, and a man in a brown suit and tie with a trench coat. Most of the party was probably up on the roof, but Orah wasn't in a hurry to get up there just yet. Standing to the side in the lobby was a good first step and she soaked in the chatter like dry soil.
