Darren felt himself falling through pure darkness before finally landing with a THUD onto a hard surface, Flynn soon following suit and plopping right down on top of Darren. The brunette wheezed underneath the charmeleon's weight, struggling to push the fire type off of him as he gasped for air. Flynn realized this and quickly scrambled off of his trainer, allowing Darren to breathe. Darren sat up, catching his breath and recovering from the cold sweat, feeling like he'd just woken up from an absolute nightmare. Little did he know, that nightmare was only beginning. He took a look around at the broken and dusty interior of a home he was now inside. "Where.... Where are we?" Darren asked, still in a bit of a daze. Flynn growled warily and with concern, though he wasn't quite certain of their current location either.
Now that he thought about it, something else was missing too. "Sable?!" Darren called out, wondering if the hex maniac had transported her too. At the moment it didn't seem as such, and Darren wasn't sure if he should have felt disappointed or relieved at that revelation. He stood, dusting himself off, the floor creaking and groaning in protest with every movement he made. What in the world was going on here...? Where had that girl sent him and why? She had said he'd be useful, she had asked for help... What was he supposed to do here....?

Dumuzi was wandering around with the Cleffa in her arms as she tried to find a place where she could get out of here. But there were no doors that lead out of the house and the windows were nailed shut or something. Whatever brought her in here definitely didn’t want her to get out. All that left Du to do was wander around and look for her ghostly hosts and meet their demands to do battle with them. She hated the idea of doing battle, but she really didn’t have much of a choice, and she did want to help those ghosts cross over and not join them for all eternity here in this little enclosed space from hell. Dumuzi sighed and made a note that feeling sorry for herself and only dragging her feet with what she was supposed to be doing wasn’t going to get this unwanted task done any faster. Du looked down at the little pokemon that was clinging to her being and shivering with fright and lowered her hand to gently pet the pokemon until it calmed down. Poor thing, she wondered where it came from and how on earth it managed to get here. She supposed that the Ghost pokemon that were around here could have captured it in some way. Du made some room in her bag alongside of Piksi where the pair seemed to be good friends right away. With the task of getting her new friend settled and comfortable, Du started off on her little quest to find the trio of the undead and apparently get some Trick-or-treating done while she was at it. It made her feel a little silly, knocking on doors and looking for three ghosts. For the most part, she was met with silence on the other side of the door before she looked in to see if there was something on the other side that could give her a hint of where she could go to look. Trick or Treating again was a little weird to Dumuzi, but she was actually rather enjoying the last chance of doing it. A couple of years ago, her mom decided that she was just too old for trick-or-treating anymore, so she had to retire from the activity. It was a little sad, really, she always enjoyed getting things from friends and neighbours.
Dumuzi raised her hand and knocked on another door, Du could feel something on the other side and called out her well-practiced: ”Trick or Treat” Before the door cracked open a little bit. Stale breath exited out of the door and an empty socket peaked out of the crack in the door, Du swallowed her fear as the hand pushed in between the crack in the door, the putrid green flesh looked as though it was going to slosh right off at the slightest bump. Du moved her bag under the fisted hand, not entirely sure if she wanted what was being held in there. Silently, the rotted appendage dropped 5 rare candies into her bag [ October Give away prize ] before retreating back behind the door again. ”Th-thank you.” The sounds of a creaking door closing was her only response to the gratitude. Normally Du would have found the rude, but then again maybe the undead guy didn’t have a tongue anymore and couldn’t reply. She figured that forgiving such things would be in her best interest. Well, that was one wing done, and she hadn’t bumped into any of the ghost that she was supposed to challenge. She had a feeling that she was going to have to go into the basement… that was not a task that she was looking forwards to… she would save that potential nightmare for last. Du made her way back into the main Foyer and looked up the stairs where she knew that she knew that at least two of the ghost were hanging out and waiting for her. Though the stairs split in two and seemed to lead to different directions. Du randomly picked the right stairway and started to ascend the creaky steps that possibly lead to her doom. The Darkness that bathed the top of the stairs didn’t seem to be all that welcoming either. When Du reach the top of the stairs, those eerie blue lights started to slowly lead the way down the hallway and to each of the doors before disappearing inside, giving the doors themselves a ghastly glow around the door itself. Du swallowed hard and started off towards the depths of the hallway to continue in both of her quests.

Sable groaned in pain after her rough landing. Wherever she was teleported to, it was on top of a haphazard stack of crates. The result was that she crashed through a couple of them and had some of the others topple over and land on her."Not... Called for..."the teen groaned as she tried to drag herself out from under the crates. Of course, she ended up getting a few bruised knuckles as a result due to wherever she landed at being too dark for her eyes. There seemed to be no light, or at least too little for her to see what she was doing. Or maybe that was just because there was a broken crate in the way?
Eventually, Sable managed to worm her way out from under the mass of boxes enough to get to her feet. Nothing felt broken, and she didn't think she had anything puncturing or slicing her, but she figured she'd be sporting a few bruises later. Once on her feet the teen could see that, yes, the room really was completely dark. The teen whimpered once before carefully making her way through the pitch-black room, barely raising her feet off the ground as she slowly stepped along to avoid any sudden surprises. She had no pokemon to light or guide her way, no flashlight, nothing. Worse yet, Sable had no idea where she had been dumped or if anyone would be nearby.
At least Jin didn't have to worry about lack of sight or an uncomfortable landing. The zorua had landed flat on his back just above the mattress of one of those fancy canopy beds. The gekkit he was holding yipped quietly as they landed with a bounce, the bamboo-wearing fox being more or less on Jin's stomach upon the landing."Oof! Well, at least the landing was soft for both of us."Jin chuckled a bit and scratched behind the gekkit's ear before gently moving her off of him. He then sat up and moved aside the ragged drapes upon the bed to see the room itself.
As he had guess from the presence of the bed he landed on, Jin and his charge had been teleported into a bedroom of some sort. It might have been the master bedroom or it may have merely been a guest bedroom. Without seeing any other rooms in the building, there was no way for him to tell."Looks like we might as well get moving,"he muttered as he slid off the bed, then gently picked up the gekkit and headed towards the door. He grabbed a hold of the handle with his off hand and turned it, then frowned as the handle refused to move much."Locked? In a bedroom?"Jin shook his head at the thought and turned the handle harder, but still no luck. He double checked to see that no, there was no keyhole, and no, the hinges were not on the side of the door he was on, then tried turning the handle again while shouldering the door. Still nothing.
Jin was about to start trying to ram the door down when he heard someone laughing at him. He quickly turned to see who could possibly be in the room and say... Him. Or, rather, his reflection in a medium-sized mirror above a stomach-high dresser. The reflection of him didn't look quite right, though, and that wasn't even counting the fact that its expression did not match his. It was nothing as blatant as hair and eye color, auras of darkness, or anything of the like, but things still felt wrong. The reflection's sneer had a more wicked look to them than Jin's usual smirks, its eyes held a certain malice that wasn't present in the original's, and the tone of voice held a certain venom to it.
"Don't bother. That door won't open. Not if I don't want it to,"the reflection said with some amusement in its voice. Jin glanced around the room a bit, taking stock of the remaining layout of the room, then glared at the reflection."So what would it take to make you want to open it?"the disguised zorua asked after deciding against a few potential ideas he had. Mostly, of shredding the door with his claws or trying to break through the window. One would take too much time while the other would leave him and possibly the gekkit injured. Neither was a good idea.
The reflection chuckled again as it sounded like the original would let him go into his spiel."Simple. Take my challenge, and I'll let you run around this house all you like."The false Jin sneered darkly from where he was in the mirror."Of course, given your... Circumstance, that b***h you're so attached to will also be dragged into it. And I'm not talking about the one you're holding,"he warned, then laughed when the real Jin growled at him."Oh, don't be like that~ At least I'm giving you a fair chance~"Another sneer, another laugh."Really, you should be thanking me for this. The one where she is is just waiting for you to refuse. There wouldn't even be a choice, then."Jin's reflection gave the zorua a wicked grin."No, she'd be screaming in agony by now with all the residents so interested in her. At least with my offer, she has a chance."
Jin's stomach had been tying itself into knots during the explanation given by whatever it was in that mirror that was taking his appearance. He knew Sable was tough as a trainer, but if some ghost got the jump on her..."Any chance you'll tell me where to find her when I accept?"he managed to say, although right now the last thing he wanted to do was talk. He wanted to break that mirror and tear apart whatever was wearing his appearance. That thing was mocking him in one too many ways right at the moment and he really wanted to make it pay for making him feel like he did. Still, he had his duty, and that was more important than some discomfort caused by something or other wanting to play mind games with him.
The reflection laughed for a moment."But that's part of the fun! To see just how long it takes for the weakest link to shatter... You can't tell me you don't love that~"The laugh turned into a dark chuckle and the reflection's eyes narrowed as it stared Jin down."If that weren't true, you wouldn't be a mere observer, would you? Whether it's to play the hero or the villain, you just love seeing people suffer,"the voice continued, then chuckled for a few more moments as the zorua remained silent. Once the laughter died completely, a clicking noise suddenly came from the door, which swung wide open to reveal the hallway."Go on, then. Play the hero if you want. Maybe you'll even make it in time."Jin didn't even pay attention to his reflection's final comments and laughter as he sprinted out of the room, carrying the gekkit in one arm but, while trying not to drop her, paying a lot more attention to trying to locate where his trainer was.
Jin'll actually be around Sable after a few posts, but for now they're just in different spots and trying to find where everyone got dumped. ^ _ ^ It shouldn't impact the challenges too much if I have Jin handle the ones I intend him to on his own, since mirror doesn't allow switching during battles anyway. And speaking of challenges, officially going for the mirror challenge with this character each time since she's not apt to get very far in normal challenge. XD

”Trick or treat!” Dumuzi was really starting to get into the spirit of things –so to speak- and starting to really enjoy herself as she went from one room to the next as she asked for candy or other goodies that the ghosts and ghouls that occupied this haunted location were willing to give her. She was starting to get over the terror of what was inside this house and it was starting to give way to fun, even Cleffa and Piksi were having a good time riding along and enjoying the spooks and scares that went along with them. It was a strange thing that these undead people were fairly unthreatening, it was though they were living their lives as normal and nothing was out of the ordinary. There were some terrifying things in some of the rooms, Du was having fun at the moment, but the thought that this place could still be dangerous was still at the forefront of her mind. Du watched as the skeletal hand dropped the Pink bow into her bag [ Talk like a pirate day give away ] and thanked them for their gift. Dumuzi suddenly wondered if these things that she was being given were once items that the owners had collected during their pokemon journey and now that they were dead, that they didn’t need the things that brought them joy anymore. That was kind of a sad thought. It did kind of remind her of her own mortality in a way, eventually, she too would get old and pass away in the future. All the friends she made and all the adventures she had would all fade from history. She supposed that made it even more special to her, that this was going to be her one and only life and all the experiences and memories were never going to be repeated ever again. Du had remained at the last door for a while, just… thinking and pondering over things that she maybe regretted by not acting or acting a certain way. She didn’t want to take too many of those to the grave with her nor did she want to leave with unfinished business here in the world. She had a lot to do, didn’t she? To make sure that her life wasn’t going to be wasted with fear or uncertainty anymore. Dumuzi looked up finally and down the hallway where the azure lights lead her. She needed to find those ghosts and beat them in a battle. They were stuck here, for whatever reason, and apparently giving them one last battle and winning would be the best way to defeat them. She could use this time to get her other pokemon trained up as well. She could be both a strong Coordinator and a strong trainer in her own way. Du turned to face down the long hallway and started to move past the other doors to start her hunt for one of those Ghouls that needed help. She wasn’t going to be stuck here, and she was going to help cleanse this place of them, perhaps then, the rest of the restless souls here would find their peace as well.
Du’s ears were starting to get more in tuned with the stillness of the hallway with the only sounds coming from her footsteps and the groaning and creaking of the odd board as it complained against the time that had worn it away. The darkness was both seemingly a comfort and a warning to stay away from the monsters that Du was pursuing this night. After wandering the halls for what felt like hours, Du’s ears finally picked something up, the sounds of an organ playing came from somewhere ahead and prompted Dumuzi to follow it. When she got to the double doors that were housing the music behind them, Du tried to push the door open but found it sealed shut. Du paused and looked up, trying to figure out a way to get in. ”Du, hold on a minute. There’s something weird with that door.’ Titania popped out of her pokeball, dressed up as though she was a mummy. ”Eeee! You got costumes too! That is so adorable!!!” Titania sweatdropped and gave a bit of a forced chuckle at Du’s quick distraction. ”Ehhee… anyway!” Titania closed her eyes and put her hands on the door way in concentration, her face appeared to be very disturbed and very troubled. After a few moments she pulled away and took a few steps back and looked at the door again. ’There is some sort of seal around the door, I sense 8 spirits holding it closed on us. They are… victims… and they are looking for something that will bring them rest. I couldn’t get them to open up to me, but they are in the basement. We should head there now.’ Dumuzi really didn’t like the sounds of that, but she was more than willing to get these ghosts the help that they needed so that she didn’t get stuck in here. Du recalled Titania into her pokeball and started to hastily make her way down the hallway and towards the stairs. Why was it always basements that held the most dirty and wicked secrets? Why couldn’t it have been somewhere more cheerful and happy? Then again having dark secrets being in a cheerful and happy place certainly seemed like it was even more disturbing. When Du finally got the stairway she descended down into the Foyer where she paused and looked around again. Silence filled the air once more, the only sounds she heard was the howling of an angry wind outside and the odd groaning of the grumpy house as it settled from the temperature change. Movement caught the corner of Dumuzi`s eyes and startled her to look fully upon an apparition of a woman who`s chest had been carved open. Eyeless sockets seemed to be focused on everything and yet saw nothing as she made her way, weeping as silently as she could, towards a wall with a tapestry over it. Dumuzi watched as the shade vanished from view. Du was having a hard time trying to move her body at this point, her knees were shaking and her mouth felt dry. She felt a little hand come to a rest on her forearm. The unexpected gesture cause Du to look down in surprise where her new Cleffa and Piksi looked up at her, Piksi jingling her keys gently as if to encourage her to follow through. Du gave an uncertain look towards the tapestry before forcing herself to go over and check out what was hidden there.
Du threw back the tapestry to see an outline of a door, the spectral blue embers making it more than visible… along with the scratch marks and the embedded human nails that lead into whatever secrets that basement was holding. Now Du was really spooked, but she mustered what little courage she had in order to push against the door where a grinding clunk was hear and gears started to clang together –a bit with some difficulty given their age- and the door slowly swung open fully before the gears snapped and clattered to the ground with their old age, indicating that the door was now open forever. Du hesitantly and cautiously peered down into the inky darkness and slowly made her way down the stairs.

Arriving, Zak stood still again, eyes closed before he gave a slow, and then faster, shake of his head. He opened his eyes, scanning around and then moving forward. Different setting, but-- well, he was fairly sure this looked familiar. He'd asked first, fo course, and as it had turned out, the Haunted House was about where he'd suspected it would be; in Eterna Woods, near the eerie Chateau he'd visited before. And indeed, the area looked like the same woods he'd traversed before, and he was sure that if he wandered around long enough he could find the Mansion. Hs interest was more in the house before him, though-- the one filled with ghosts and things he was sure he and Boo could stir up. There seemed to be others already in, so he circled around, deciding to enter more from the back, so he could avoid the rush, and was soon inside, brushing himself off an looking coolly around. Now he just needed to find one of those psychics... and he could get started.
Releasing Daeva, Meebus, Boo, and Sotnik again, he started through the hallways, absently tugging at his gloves. He would try the mirror challenge this time, he decided-- and maybe he would use some of that time to do some more research on 'Miss Fortune'.

As she fumbled around for a light switch, a candle, or something else to use, Sable finally remembered that she did have one source of light. IT was nearly useless, but the bit of lighting behind the screen of her pokedex would be better than the darkness she was fumbling around in. So, she pulled out the device, pushed a button to at least get the screen lit, and swept it around her so she could see the immediate area. She immediately regretted it at the sight of several skeletons scattered about the room, or at least around the area surrounding her. Some of the ones she could see seemed to have been tied or chained to various pieces of dust-covered furniture, while some of them were just laying about. The most common, though, were the ones that had been broken apart, and she did not want to speculate on why several of the bones were broken or completely shattered.
All at once, the teen felt a chill and everything was dark again. Sable panicked for a moment before a soft blue light filled a small portion of the room, indicating that the darkness was just because her pokedex went back to sleep mode or whatever it was when the screen darkened. Quite frankly, she didn't care at the moment. She was more concerned about the light that showed up. Lights, actually, as more blue flickers of flame flared up in the room around her. And if that weren't bad enough, the teen realized she was finding it a bit difficult to stand. It took her a little while to realize why, and she quickly moved her hand to one of the balls on her belt.
Laughter filled the room within the basement (at least, Sable guessed that's where she was from the lack of windows) as several litwick surrounded Sable. The teen quickly looked around for either an exit or at least a way to evade the group of litwick, letting out the pokemon whose ball she was holding as she did so. That pokemon happened to be Honey and while the beedrill was initially happy at being let out, she quickly held onto Sable due to seeing all the fire types around her. This made the litwick laugh even more, and all the while Sable was finding it harder to keep her footing.
Sable grimaced as she had a pretty good guess at what was going on."No, it's not gonna be this easy,"the teen grumbled, causing the litwick to start laughing again."Honey, use-"Sable's command was cut off with a scream as some of the ghostly candles surrounding her hit her with curses and hexes. The teen collapsed from the pain of the attacks, shuddering where she lay while Honey tried to figure out what she should do.
Once again the group of litwick laughed at the human and this time several flames started to float away from the candles and encircled the teen. One litwick that looked a bit stronger than the others moved forward from the circle of its kin. It seemed to be the one directing how the flames should be moving as the blue fires started to merge into what appeared to be a chain of flames. It began a chant as it did so, something about darkness, shadows, and things like that, and the other litwick began to join in.
Honey didn't wait for the first bar to be finished before striking. Obviously one of them was the leader, so Honey would attack that one first. And attack she did, rushing at the candle ghost with her needles and piercing right through the wax. The litwick cried out and one of the stray flames burned her, but she didn't let that stop her from puncturing the candle pokemon yet again to drive it away. It at least succeeded in causing the one leading the chant to flee, which caused most of the other litwick to scatter. Enough of them that Honey had a chance to try and help her trainer up and get her away from all these life-draining ghosts.
Jin was still stuck wandering halls for the moment, but a look out one of the windows at least gave him an idea of where he was stuck. It appeared he had been dumped somewhere on the second floor, which was a bit irritating. Mostly because it meant that if he picked wrong in trying to locate Darren or Sable, he'd have to double back and hope that they didn't go too far. There was something else irritating, too..."Wow, you just don't care, do you? I mean, obviously you'd have found them by now if you were actually looking for these so-called friends of yours~"Every time he passed in front of a window, mirror, or other reflective object, his so-called reflection was there to mock him.

Okay, so I got the actual mechanics of the challenge all filled out in the battle section of the post, and as a precaution, I did the math. The only one that could conceivably have problems is Jin, and that's more that he'd be dead tired by the end of the Gengar battle if the order were Duskull -> Cofagrigus -> Gengar (even with no heals, he'd have only lost 183 HP between attacks and being badly poisoned since the turn counter for being badly poisoned would reset between battles, and that's not even the amount of HP he started with before gaining levels) instead of feeling rather fresh. XD But dear lord, it took all morning (honestly, I think I started somewhere at four or five) to get the battle mechanics part hammered out.

Dumuzi’s eyes strained to try and see in the dark as she descended down the flight of stairs that twisted and turned relentlessly as it seemed to lead her deeper into the mouth of hell. Eventually, she saw a blue haze of light that illuminated both the bottom of the stairs and a silhouette of a door. Du slowly and carefully reach the bottom of the staircase and looked towards the door at the bottom for a few heartbeats before slowly reaching for the rusted, pitted doorknob and giving the handle a soft twist. She tried to open the door quietly and carefully so as not to disturb whatever might be lurking inside. The door seemed to have other plans though, as time had wedged the door closed and Du needed to take a couple of shoulder bumps to get the door open. The groaning of the door seemed hideously loud against the once gentle silence of the surrounding area and Du quickly gave up on her stealth mission. Not that there was any need for such a thing, Dumuzi opened the basement door to reveal an almost empty room with a dirt floor and eight hastily made concrete sarcophagi haphazardly thrown in place wherever there was room for them, making them all cramped up in one end of the respectably large basement. Dumuzi could guess that there were plans for more of these sarcophagi in the future, though time seemed to be cut short for whomever made them. Hesitation seemed to Dumuzi’s mindset for the evening. Being only 13 years old, she certainly didn’t have a lot of mental protections verse the dead and the restless spirits that she was starting to encounter here. Dumuzi summoned the courage and crept up to the concrete sarcophagi and tempted a look inside, despite having a pretty good idea what was already in there. Du pushed and heaved against the lid, but her barely teenage arms just didn’t have the strength behind them to do it on her own. After a few moments of grunting and groaning Du decided that perhaps it was best to let sleeping demons lie and pulled back her efforts. Those tops were really heavy, even with a crowbar she doubted that she would be able to open them up. Du sat in silence for a moment. ”Welp, there’s nothing I can do here! I better go and look for another way to get in.” Du sounded almost cheerful as she said this and was about to beat a hasty retreat when 8 green wisps came through the door and towards Dumuzi. Du froze but found that he orbs had moved past her and entered the sarcophagi. The tops rumbled and shook before the painful sounds of screeching of rock against rock filled the air and released a pungent smell as they moved off of the base of the tombs and slid onto their sides. The dust from the floor stirs from the movement, but other than that things had gone still once more. No apparitions appeared, not bodies twitched and pulled themselves out. There was just a dead silence once again as the final echoes of the booming weight had finally worn off.
Dumuzi wasn’t entirely sure what to do next, but she decided that maybe those coffins had some clues or maybe even a key to get into that room. There was a reason that she was lead down here and the lids were removed for her, after all. Dumuzi’s right hand was brought to her sternum in a fist, and her left hand grasped her right wrist while she tried to pull herself in as tightly as possible to herself, just in case something decided to make a grab at her. Dumuzi peered into the deathbeds and reeled back in mortification. Eight victims were all laid into an uneasy rest. Four women and four men all dumped here, their remains still holding their terrorized death masks and all seemed to be missing something of their person. The woman who appeared to her as a ghost was there, her heart missing from her chest, another girl had been scalped and judging by the scratch marks on the inside lid of her coffin –had been buried alive. The third was missing her head altogether and the final girl had her jaw painfully distended and her tongue removed. Du couldn’t help but feel for these souls, as they obviously had a very miserable last few hours on earth… or at least she hoped it was only hours before they were removed from their bodies. The men didn’t seem to fare any better with the level of cruelty that they suffered with either. One missing teeth with his jaw almost taken clean off, one missing a liver, one with his hand gone, and the final one didn’t seem to have his eyes anymore. This was a heinous thing to do to someone, especially seeing as most of them looked like they were sealed in here alive. Dumuzi could venture a guess as to what she needed to do, though the task was something the she would have lived the rest of her life cheerfully without doing. Although she would have to do it if she had any hopes of escaping. Du wanted to cry, she wanted to go home and never have to deal with any of this again. She was too young to be seeing such horrific things or having to gather such grizzly trophies to put rest to the dead.
Where did she even start? This place was huge and she had a limited amount of time. Snuffling a little bit and fighting back tears, she looked around and hoped that there might be something nearby. Someone - or something- must have sensed her despair of where to go and she heard what she thought were footsteps leading in a certain direction. She noticed footprints start to form in the dirt leading to a door that she hadn’t noticed before. The footsteps stopped in front of the door and Du decided to follow suit, she didn’t have anything else to go on at the moment and any clue would be a good clue for her to follow up on, even if it was just something that lead to somewhere else where another hint was, she could be grateful for that. Anything to make this misery end sooner! Du grabbed the doorknob and pushed it open gently. Candlelight illuminated the hallway that was leading down there in a warm glow that Dumuzi was more than happy for. Du snuggled her bag before pressing on. She wanted to get out of here and quickly. The pathway twisted and turned rather awkwardly and seemed to be getting slightly smaller and small as she went on until eventually it looked as though the tunnel had been dug with someone’s hands. The trail eventually ended but there was a small crawlspace where something had been hastily placed. Du knelt down to something of an alcove where she saw a small box. Du reached her arm in and fumbled a little bit before finally grabbing onto the box. Du looked the box over and brushed the dirt off of it. She cautiously brought it up to her ear and gave it a gentle shake and head the sounds of something solid inside, multiple things as well.
Dumuzi perked up a bit when she noticed that the lights were starting to get dimmer and dimmer in the area and looked around. One by one the candles started to extinguish.
”Pumpka….”
The pitch suggested that of a child, the malice in the tone was certainly not. One by one the multiple candles that had lit up the area started to snuff out.
”Pumpka~”
Du stood up and reached for her pokeballs. Her eyes narrowing in defiance as the last of the lights had gone out, leaving Du in the pitch black with only her slightly panicked breathing to keep her company. Du’s eyes scanned the darkness until it fell on the embers of a Jack-o-lantern, above it, the shadows of something coiled with eager anticipation while the light cast from below gave a sinister look to the pokemon who had murderous intent in its eyes.

Dumuzi had a feeling that this little pokemon was guarding this box, and she knew that she wasn’t going to get off without a fight. She was going to send a random pokemon out when Nemain forced her way out of her pokeball and took a battle stance. Dressed as a little devil, Nemain was more than willing to give this grassy ghost a fight that it’d never forget.
Mirror challenge Round 1: Nemain vs. Pumpkaboo. Nemain’s large jaws snapped violently, snarling as she gave a wicked look over her shoulder at the Pumpkaboo that was floating nearby. ”I’m going to eat you alive, little Ghosty!” [Ability: Intimidate: Pumpkaboo’s attack dropped one stage.] The Pumpkaboo paused with hesitation, suddenly not looking so sure of itself as the intimidating little fairy let him know who was in charge in this fight. Dumuzi took little time in issuing her order. ”Use Bite, Nemain!” It took little prompting to get the charged up little fairy to pounce on her prey with little to no regards as those giant jaws did their work and clamped down hard on the ghost. Nemain gave a few good shakes of her head before the ghost pokemon was able to pull itself free from the attack, stunned and reeling from the pain of the bite.
Dumuzi smiled a little bit, she knew that this pokemon would haunt its last box of… whatever unsavory thing was inside there. Du raised her arm, she had to do this and complete what she was aiming to do here. So many innocent souls were banking on her to do this. ”Alright Nemain, it’s on its last legs! Finish it off with Incinerate!” Fire started to gather in the large jaw of Nemain as she gathered up her move before unleashing a gout of flame that impacted the screeching Pumpkaboo. This match was over and Du watched as the Pumpkaboo wobbled for a moment before starting to tumble into the ground. He burst into a blue, spectral flame that dissolved its body before it even hit the earth.

Du breathed a sigh of relief and returned Nemain to the pokeball, she was happy to have gotten that over with. The candles started to light themselves again, this time with that accursed blue flame that did little to chance away the anxiety that darkness brought with it that she needed the light to protect her from. Dumuzi sighed and started to make her way towards door the brought her into this tunnel to begin with, she brought her fingers to the wall so that she had some semblance of where she was going and to make sure that she was still following the main wall back to where the basement was to being with. For some reason the way back seemed to take longer than going down this damned tunnel and Du had never been so happy to see a gathering of sarcophagi in all of her life… and hopefully she will never be so happy to see such things ever again. Dumuzi peeked into the box that she was had in her hands and quickly closing it, her face souring in displeasure at what she saw. Du moved over to the toothless corpse and placed the box inside his resting place. Taking a step back the flesh started to turn to dust and the body started to take a different position, becoming much more restful in the process. No longer incomplete the green specter that had once possessed the corpse revealed itself, the man was a rather handsome for his age. He looked down at his body before looking back at Dumuzi and nodding his thanks before slowly starting to dissipate in a warm glow. A serene look crossed over his face as he finally crossed over to find his peace. Dumuzi breathed a sigh of relief, though now there were still seven more to go. Hopefully she could manage to beat the other pokemon just like she did that last pokemon. Du looked at the rest of the bodies in their coffins and wondered if she would be able to get to them all in time. She supposed that the best way to find these would be to just start looking around and maybe then the spirits would help her find the spot where she could find what they needed to pass on. That was Du’s only hope at this point in time. With that thought in mind, Du started to make her way up the staircase again so that she could start searching the home again and try and find those macabre items.

Landing at the Haunted House Simon paused and took a deep gulp of air. Okay he's okay, the light headedness was fading so that was a good thing. Even though she was feeling rather weak from her incounter with the litwick horde, with a some assistance from Honey she was able to get away from the remaining candle pokemon. With the various flames provided, it was easier for the teen to see where she and Honey were going. It took some effort, but eventually the duo found a door. Even more effort was required to get it open due to the door apparently being stuck, and eventually Sable resorted to having Oaken smack it with his tail while she kept the handle turned. That did the trick as the door suddenly swung open, although it wasn't exactly a comfortable situation for the teen.
Once out of what Sable could only assume was some sort of storage room, possibly a cellar, the teen messed around with her pokedex again to get some more light. There were some stairs leading up and what looked to be another room down the way."Might... Might as well check what's... Left..."Sable managed to say as she went towards the other room, no longer using Honey for support and instead keeping a hand on the wall. Honey and Oaken kept close by in case anything else decided to try and take advantage of the trainer.
Sable wasn't really expecting what she saw in the room, but was no less grateful. It seemed that whoever the previous owner of the building was, they had decided they wanted a swimming pool within the confines of the house itself instead of out in the yard. That made Sable a bit more sure that she was either on the first floor or in a basement, since she couldn't imagine trying to plop a pool into the floor of a higher story."Hold on..."she huffed as she wandered over to one of the pool chairs scattered about, then set her stuff down before sitting on the chair."I'm still drained from those litwick..."Even with how exhausted she was, though, Sable was twitchy and nervous. She wasn't just getting herself out of a bad situation! She had to find Darren! But she knew she wouldn't get much further if she could hardly walk, so she forced herself to lay down and stare at the ceiling while waiting for her body to recover a bit.
Small, bamboo-wearing, adorable little bundle of fluff or no, Jin was about ready to set the little lady down and start breaking every window and mirror he saw."Looks like that b***h of yours got lucky! But only barely~ Too bad there's still about six more hosts interested in her~"the reflection had told him, and that made Jin worry. He'd been told that there were supposed to be eight "hosts" that had to be defeated for the challenge to be complete. That was the good news. The bad news was that, of them, only one actually seemed to be interested in going after him. That meant the other seven were looking to target his trainer, and that was what worried him.
Still, standing about worrying wasn't going to be productive, so Jin systematically went through the floor he was on, opening what doors he could to see what was beyond. It seemed that he had, indeed, landed in a guest bedroom, as most rooms he found were of a similar layout. There were also some bathrooms scattered about, and he ended up having to stop briefly for the gekkit to do her own bit of business. It seemed that whoever owned this home previously had at least one pokemon that roamed around freely, given there were a few spots he had seen where some animal-like pokemon could take care of certain biological needs. Not that any of that really mattered to Jin. All he cared about at the moment was finding where Sable and Darren were. Sable for rather obvious reasons, and Darren because he doubted that Sable would be leaving without him.
Sable hadn't even realized that her eyes had shut and that she had drifted off into a nap. That changed rather quickly when she felt multiple cold, long, soggy somethings wrap around her arms and neck. She became aware of some sound that was the end of a splash and tried to curse as she felt herself get dragged off the pool chair. Her throat wasn't cooperating, though, and neither were her arms. Her legs, on the other hand, were working more or less fine, so she kicked at the pool chair as she dragged off it. The clatter proved more effective at alerting her pokemon than the jellicent's exit from the pool had and gave Oaken enough direction to launch a flurry of razor-sharp leaves in the direction of the commotion. Several of the leaves cut into Sable herself, but more importantly the sudden attack caused the water type to let go of the teenage trainer.
The landing was far from graceful, her arms uncooperative, and Sable ended up landing on her front once she released. Still, she knew better than to leave things as they were for the moment."...gain... A... gain... AGAIN!"It took some effort as her throat still refused to cooperate, but after rasping out her first few attempts she suddenly croaked out her command. Oaken quickly complied and sent another flurry of leaves in the direction it hoped its opponent was in. Thankfully, the reeling jellicent hadn't managed to float too far from where it was before getting torn apart by another set of blade-like leaves.
Jin felt his fist clench as his reflection suddenly burst out laughing again."Two for two! b***h is on a roll!"the voice called out, then sounded darker as it quieted a bit."Or, rather, her team is. She seems like she's about ready to join the host club~"The reflection's laughter continued to ring out as the window it had been sneering at Jin from suddenly had the disguised zorua's fist through it. The dark type was practically gasping for air as he tried to calm himself, cool his anger, something! Something other than just lashing out!
Instead of being put of, the reflection simply reformed on a different reflective surface and cackled at the dark type."Aw, no reason to get so sour. If this one breaks, you'll just find another~"Once again, the false Jin cackled as the real one turned to face where he was coming from.That's what you did with the last... What? Four? Five?" "...Shut up..."Even though he was trying to keep from lashing out again, Jin couldn't keep from being provoked by the reflection."I mean, you actually threw away three... Yeah, I guess that would make her the fifth. One you liked and couldn't do s**t to help, three you thought were crap and tossed aside. Wonder what side she'll land on~"
"Just shut up!"Jin felt he had put up with more than enough out of the twisted mockery in the window and stormed over to it."Now listen here! I will find her! She won't be food for these pathetic hosts of yours! And any of them that dares to harm her shall learn the that even ghosts can die. Painfully! Do you understand?"Jin's eyes were glowing slightly as he finished barking his rant at the reflection, but he didn't care what the answer was. He didn't care to hear any return comments from the fake. He just continued on his way, not willing to waste any more time than he already had on such a pathetic... Whatever it was.

Dumuzi concentrated her efforts on the main floor of the mansion to locate whatever she happened to come across. Her mind was still wandering around to what she saw in the basement and she was still trying to piece together what was going on. Once this was all over and her mind had time to settle on this subject and she fully realized what was going on she was likely going to be getting nightmares for quite some time. Du continued to look around and pushed her way through a variety of rooms on the main floor. It was when she was in the exploring the adjacent rooms in off one of the larger rooms meant for entertaining that she saw a door that she didn’t notice before and went to investigate. Behind the door there was something of an inner greenhouse or… something… that looked as though it was used for tea parties and such. Du opened the door and poked her head in the room to take a look around. Aside from everything looking withered or dead, it didn’t look like it was too bad of a place to be at. Dumuzi walked around for a bit and was about to give up in her hunt when she noticed something hanging in the tree, it was something that certainly didn’t belong there and it was nauseating just to look at. Long hair draped from the tree though kept a general shape of the shape of the back of someone’s head. Oh Arceus above, she was going to have to grab that, wasn’t she? Du pushed herself very slowly to the item that she didn’t want to collect and with a trembling hand she reached for what the Ghost of the victim needed for rest. From beneath the tree a black, shadowy hand burst from the ground and grasped Du’s arm and an Egyptian looking sarcophagus pulled itself out of the earth and opened its lid slightly where a few more arms came through into the world around it. Du pulled her arm back and reached for her pokeballs. She didn’t need to think too hard on which pokemon to bring out. ”Come on out, Eolande!” With a fiercely cute battle cry, Eolande floated into a battle ready position, ready to go and protect her human.
Challenge Round Two: Eolande vs. Cofagrigus Dumuzi hardly hesitated in what move she thought would be the best one to start off with. ”Eolande, use Energy ball!” A mysterious power gathered around Eolande as she tapped into her bond with nature and not long after that, an orb formed of withering energy before she unleashed it on the ghostly Sarcophagus where it impacted heavily, smashing a good chunk out of the coffin from where the ghost pokemon found itself hiding in. [Eolande used Energy Ball! Cofagrigus took 90 damage]
Hissing in agitation, the ghost pushed open the coffin lid with a heavy, oaky groan and reached out with one of its spectral hands to smack the little Flower pokemon, though Eolande looked like she took the hit like a trooper. The Fairies were a hardy little group of pokemon, they weren’t afraid of the darkness that many of the other pokemon couldn’t stand up to. [Cofagrigus used Knock off! It’s not very effective… Eolande took 33 damage]

Dumuzi was feeling confident with this fight, though Eolande looked like she was a little bruised up, the other pokemon looked like it was already on its last legs! Du got a determined look on her face as she gave a dramatic thrust of her hand to accompany an equally enthusiastic point. ”It’s on its last legs, Eolande! Use Fairy wind and finish it off!” Eolande gave the ghost pokemon a wickedly grin – but let’s face it, even the most fierce look on that little pokemon would look adorable- as she shifted off her flower and pointed it towards Cofagrigus before a blasting of sprinkled sparks flew towards the ghost before exploding in a glittering fashion. [Eolande used Fairy wind! Cofagrigus took 40 damage! Cofagrigus fainted!

Cofagrigus gave a low moan as defeat over took it, the holes of light from where the Fairy wind indented its being and blue, purifying flame ignited the pokemon as it started to topple over. The flames ate away at the pokemon and by the time that it would have hit the ground it had disappeared in a plume of shadows. Dumuzi breathed a sigh of relief as the battle was ended. Good grief, these battles weren’t good for the heart. Dumuzi looked back up in the tree where the ‘prize’ was located and her face soured. She was not going to touch that… and yet, she had to bring it to the victim in the basements. Du looked around for a moment and then looked down at her trick or treat bag. Frowning, she guessed she had no choice in the matter and emptied the contents of her sack and into bag. Du pressed her lips together and tried to gather the will to actually grab the mummified remain. She knew that it wouldn’t make her bag dirty or anything, but there was a psychological aspect to it that said that this was going to be a really bad thing to do. Du closed her eyes and quickly threw the sack over the unwanted prize and then quickly grasped the opening closed with a tight fist. Holding it as far away from her body as humanly possible and made her way back down into the basement. It took her a little while to find the basement again because of how much she wandered around to try and find the item that now occupied her bag but eventually she found that gaping maw into the darkness. Whatever apprehension that Du had to go down was quickly replaced by the want to get rid of the scalp that was currently occupying her bag. She made her way quickly down the stairs and into the crypts below and quickly looked though the bodies till she found the one with the missing hair. Du positioned her bag over the body and turned her head, clenched her eyes and turned the sack upside down so that she could give the grizzly item back to its owner. Du felt a shifting in the presence of the area and forced one of her eyes open to see the body skeletonize and take on a much more restful position, the green vaporal being giggled, her beauty restored and a lightness entered her being, she floated around Dumuzi and ruffled her hair before dropping 3 Duskull sugar skulls [Trick-or-treat roll] into her goody bag before slowly dissolving into a light. Do looked down into her bag, noticing that it was suddenly a lot cleaner than what it was before. But it wasn’t the only thing that the light did for Du, the released soul healed Eolande. Du felt a little more relieved at her accomplishments and turned to walk back up the stairs. She still had a lot of work to do.

Well, wherever he was, it was clear it was just him. The room was awfully dark and quiet, not to mention dusty. There seemed to be a few sheets covering some of the furniture, or at least what appeared to be furniture anyways. "Flynn, you'd better be careful, I think a lot of stuff in this room would be flammable given how old, dry, and dusty it all is." Darren pointed out. Flynn gave a grunt of acknowledgement and kept his tail up high and away from anything in the house, and as an added bonus it helped light the room up a bit more. Meanwhile, Darren investigated one of the sheet covered objects in the room, finding a large dresser underneath. Was he in some kind of basement? It did feel pretty cold, and the room didn't look like it was made for living space. The furniture was haphazardly arranged, as if it were here only for storage. Basement was sounding more and more like the right room description. Now the question was, how could he get out? Now that he thought about it, he didn't see a door or anything... Anywhere. "H-hello....?!" Darren called out again, this time not specifically for Sable, but for anyone. He had so many questions, and no answers at all. Frankly, it was frustrating. "How am I supposed to help if you don't tell me what you want me to do...." Darren grumbled, and Flynn groaned. Did he still honestly believe that the hex maniac had wanted their help? Apparently so. Maybe he'd hit his head so hard on the floor that he forgot she was the one who had sent them here malevolently in the first place. Darren just didn't have a mean bone in his body, incapable of believing someone would actually send them here for completely evil intentions.
Nevertheless, Darren continued to search for a door, attempting to squeeze around an oddly placed bookshelf. "Maybe it's just behind some of this-" He paused for a breath of air as he continued to try and fit through the tiny gap. "Furniture!" He wheezed, backing out again with a bit of a stumble when he deemed the bookshelf impassable. "Trying to leave already?" Asked a familiar voice. Darren whirled around to see that the hexer had appeared out of nowhere. "G-gah! Arceus, don't do that!" Darren complained, but the hexer just giggled shrilly, causing Flynn to growl in disapproval. "You might want to reign in your lizard before he burns something~ Then you'll both be trapped in a burning room, how delightfully horrid!" She cackled. Darren grimaced, but she did have a point. Flynn stopped growling and got ahold of himself, but he certainly wasn't happy.
Darren looked over the girl before him with wide fearful eyes. Now that she was showing her true colors, he was regretting not listening to Sable's warning. "W-what do you want from me....?" He asked with a stammer. "Heehee~ So eager to please, even when you're quivering like a baby deerling. Such a good boy, I knew you'd be more cooperative than your friends. It's a good thing too, you'll have an easier time that way, but you knew that already...." Darren looked at her quizzically. What....? How did she....? "Do what you're told, don't question it, don't fight back. It makes everything a lot easier, since you get it over with, quick, like ripping off a bandage. Meanwhile, if you listen hard enough, you can hear the screams of those who don't...." She cackled, and Darren gulped. It was as if she'd read his innermost guilt and brought them to light. He was spineless, he knew that. He always did what made everyone else happy, thankless favors, never asking for anything in return. He gave and gave, eventually there would probably come a day when he had nothing left to give, and then he would be abandoned and alone. That was his deepest fear, and she was reading it out like an open book.
Suddenly he heard it, a shriek that sounded an awful lot like... "Sable!!!" Darren panicked, scrambling once again to try and find a way out of the room and to her. He'd completely forgotten that previous efforts for this endeavor resulted in him concluding that they were trapped there. The hexer was highly amused by Darren's futile efforts. "Silly boy, you should be more concerned with your own predicament. In case you still haven't figured it out yet, you're TRAPPED." She growled, slightly annoyed that Darren wasn't paying her any attention. In spite of being in a hopeless situation, he still was stupid enough to believe he could run to Sable's rescue and ignore her. Finally Darren turned his attention back to her, and she was appeased. "You want to save her? Then listen close, and listen well. There are eight ghost pokemon hidden in this room. If you can find them all and beat them, I'll let you go. Otherwise.... Well, let's just say your friend won't be the only one screaming." She smirked, and with that, she was gone.

Upon defeating the Litwick its flames returned to the normal orange color as it left them alone. Swablu was happy to win her first battle and Simon returned her. Walking further in the backyard he noticed a hole in the ground. Once they reached a half empty pond Simon knelt and looked at it. Sticking through some of the cracks in the pool were yellow weeds and the water looked murky and dark. Suddenly a Balloon popped out of the water only it wasn't a balloon but a blue Jellicent raising up. Sending out Patrat he called her back to him sending Noivern out to release the Jellicent from its curse.

Du found herself wandering almost lost again, she had no idea where to start looking next and she was starting to get a little frustrated too. There were so many places to try and look that it could take her forever to try and find. On the Brightside, she was going to be able to navigate the first floor with little difficulties now, the downside was… she had no idea where to look for her next item. Du heaved a heavy sigh and slumped her shoulders. ”Okay, can I use a lifeline and call a friend or something?! I have no idea where to go next” Du sat in silence for a few moments and frown deeply. Ah man… she was going to be stuck here for the rest of her life, wasn’t she? She was about to give up when she heard a slow pace of shuffling feet and what sounded like a stick of somekind being brushed from left to right. Du’s ear’s perked up and she strained her ears for a moment before giving a quick and quiet jog to where she was sure she heard the footsteps and started to follow them. She had noticed that they had stopped but followed the direction that she last heard them down, when she came to forks and crosses in the hallways, she was once more led by the strange sounds of disembodied footsteps until she arrived at the kitchen. So something was in here then, huh? Du shuffled around the kitchen and started to throw open cupboards and pantries as well as check look in various pots and pans as well, not really having any idea which item she was looking for she thought it would be best to turn the place upside down if she needed to. Du eventually threw open a door to see a pair of eyes staring back at her. Du yelped and startled back before taking a moment to collect herself. Goddess above, she was dropping years off her life running around here and finding these little macabre treasures. Du reached out to take the jar when something small and ghostly came through the wall and launched itself directly at her face. Du tipped back and landed hard on her butt. Grimacing she glared over at the little candle ghost and her face soured. ”Rude little…” Du reached around and produced a pokeball and unleashed Shanaye, her rock and fairy type pokemon before standing up and dusting herself off. It was personal now! How dare this little pokemon spook her onto her rump –which was now very sore!
Challenge Round 3: Shanaye vs. Litwick!
”Alright Shanaye, its you’re battling début let’s start things off with… um… Stone Edge!” Dumuzi gave a dramatic point, and even though she had never saw Stone edge in action before, she was sure that it would be really effective against a fire type like Litwick. Shanaye gave a twirl then pushed themselves into the ground where they once again spun in a circle. A rumbling came from under the Litwick and multiple stone pillars smashed into the little fire ghost.

The violet flame on the top of Litwicks head turned blue as the dizzy eyed pokemon burned itself out of existence, leaving a small pile of rubble where the attack still remained until Shanaye pulled themselves out of the ground and causing the pillars to retreat back into the hole. ”Well, that was surprisingly easy…” Du sweatdropped. Damn, that was a brutal attack, she would have to remember that for the next time she face a fire pokemon! Du gave her little stone fairy a hug before returning her to her pokeball. She was happy that Shanaye didn’t get hurt in this battle either. Boy, when your pokemon had the type advantage you could really make quick work of things. Du turned her attention to the eyes that were staring back at her from inside the glass container and took them off the shelf. Well, at least she didn’t have to put them in her bag again… Du was starting to get a little more familiar with the layout of the house now and she made her way to the stairs a lot quicker than she had done the previous time when she was still more or less fumbling around the main room and getting lucky. Upon reaching the stair, Du descended into the inky embrace once more, Du was starting to kind of enjoy coming down here because A) there was a sense of accomplishment each time she came down here and b) the atmosphere was getting lighter and lighter with each passing of the trapped spirits. When Du came down the sarcophagi, she quickly located the man with the missing eyes and open the jar before placing it in the tomb before taking a step back where the ghastly scene inside slowly became one of a more peaceful reprise like it should be. The green mist took human shape where the regal looking man with an impressive beard opened his eyes to reveal that brilliant blue hue to his saviour.

Dumuzi watched as his spirit lifted before the light slowly enveloped him and he faded away in a relaxed and happy way. Once more there was a noticeable difference in the atmosphere here. Du took a relieved breath and paused for a few moments down here while she got her wind back. She still had a ways to go yet, but she was almost halfway done and that was a good start in her book!

Once Jellicent was freed it dipped back into the murky water not bothered by the green goop on the water's surface. Returning Noivern Simon went around the pond and pass some hedges that formed a maze. Right next to the hedge maze was a corn field, or half of it. The other half looked already harvested. A spooky scarecrow stood as a sentry in the field and further back Simon could see a harvester that looked rusted from years of disuse but that didn't make sense as the field was half gone. Walking through the field towards the scarecrow he paused as the scarecrow started to move, of course it wasn't haunted by anything unknown. Instead a cursed Cofagrigus appeared and attacked as Noivern came out to fight and Patrat to watch.
