Jay quirked an eyebrow. "Yeah ah dunno 'bout that buddy. Think ya do know, 'n ah think they usually don' let most people jus' go like that," he remarked, but shrugged a bit, chuckling, "But, hell if ah know. Ah ain't no police officer 'r nothin'." Nor was he very familiar with the law or its regulations. He smirked some when Sebastian made a comment about having other advice, but that smirk turned into a slightly open grin at his next comment. "Now ah take offense to that! As uh blind man, ah have uh lotta pride 'n mah hearin'! S'why ah know good advice when ah hear it," he pointed, scrunching up his nose a bit as he gave a lopsided grin. Calling him deaf... now that was just cruel, on top of everything else.
Yeah... that was about the reaction he was expecting. He hoped Sebastian wasn't too unnerved by the gun bit, but, sensibly speaking, it was probably about time he knew anyway. Full disclosure, and all that. "Mah mom," he replied as he tucked it away, making sure it was secure, "Well, 'n mah dad, really. They both 'greed ta it, she was jus' the main advocator." He smirked a bit at Sebastian's joking comment and continued walking. Well, at least he wasn't so stunned that his sense of humor left him. "Don' worry, yer safe 'n general. S'mainly only fer 'mergencies; self protection, scarin' people off, thuh like. 'Parently, the idear of uh blind man wieldin' uh lethal weapon's mighty unnervin' to some people. Dunno whether it helps 'r hurts that ah actually can aim ta some degree, too," he remarked. Of course, he was blind, so it wasn't like he had hawk eye precision in his aim. He had a radius of about a foot in each direction from where he was aiming, but he could aim. It would be enough to get the poitn across should he ever have to defend himself, at least.
Jay chuckled a bit. "S'pose not. 'R at least limited 'magination," he admitted. That was kind of true, as confirmed by his sister. Jay could imagine, of course, and he could play pretend, but sometimes he was a bit too practical for his own good. Even when he'd been younger. Add in his stubbornness and he could be a bit of a killjoy when it came to make believe, surprisingly enough. He clapped a hand over his mouth to muffle what was clearly a laugh when Sebastian commented on Diglett, and about digging his own hole. There was definitely a 'dig your own grave' joke in there, but Jay wasn't quite sure it was in good taste, all things considered. So he decided to focus on the other thing. "Y'know ah hadn't even thought 'bout that? What's under uh diglet, that is? Now't you mention it, though, that is uh curious mystery," he admitted. Could they even be pulled out of the ground?
"How long didja travel? That first time, that is," he asked, continuing to walk along, listening and turning his head at the various sounds nearby. He raised his eyebrows a bit when Sebastian mentioned a baby, realizing that that was probably the reason he'd come home that first time, given he was mentioning it. That must have been rough... but boy, what a good kid Sebastian must have been to give up his journey to come home and help with that. His parents were really lucky.... He gave a shake of his head when Sebastian started commenting on him being the 'first to do things', and gave a scoff when he said he could be an 'inspiration'. "Ah hell nah," he declined, "Ah ain't doin' nothin'. Mah pok'mon 'r the ones doin' all thuh work. It don' take much effort ta jus' be the name 'n face behind 'em." He believed that, too. HIs pokemon worked, to a large extent, independently of him. He helped and trained and such, but he wasn't doing as much as other trainers. At least, that's what he assumed, and he was pretty sure it was true to at least some extent.
While Sebastian was getting out his pokedex, Jay was hearing the skittering and quiet calling of a Spinarak, and tossed some bait to get its attention. His aim was a little off, but luckily it worked, and after a few tries, he was able to catch it, grinning a bit and lifting his head up. "Me 'n mah bugs," he agreed, and gave Scy's shoulder a bit of a pat, before continuing to walk along. "Bah thuh way, how long d'yew wanna stay here?" he asked, continuing along, listening to the pokemon in the area, "Ah noticed yew ain't catchin' any others here, 'n ah think ah may be startin' ta run uh bit low on pok'balls."
Encountered Spinarak! Turn 1: Jay threw bait! Spinarak is eating! Turn 2: Jay threw a ball! It failed! Spinarak is watching carefully! Turn 3: Jay threw a ball! It failed! Spinarak is watching carefully! Turn 4: Jay threw a ball! It caught!

"Mm, I suppose you’re right. Probably better to ask a real cop. I’ve only seen news reports and read some things after all. Who knows what was true and what wasn’t." His own knowledge was pretty limited. The most he knew was proper protocol for handing bodies; that was about as far into the law he’d ever come close to learning. Sebastian scoffed once more when Jay commented, trying hard to suppress a smirk. "Oh yeah? Well then I look forward to your quality evaluation of it when you do actually hear it." He remarked back, still cheekily grinning. Obviously, the prideful skill of hearing would need to be put to the test!
Sebastian raised an eyebrow curiously, relaxing a bit again as he nodded along to Jay’s explanation. That certainly made sense and well, a gun wielded by a blind man was kind of unnerving. Although for a mostly for that blind factor and not the gun factor. He tilted his head a bit, looking impressed. "You’re mom is pretty hardcore if she advocated for something like that." He replied. He couldn’t imagine his parents doing something like that… at least he didn’t think they’d do something like that if he’d been in Jay’s situation. Of course… his parents were kind of crazy so… maybe they would’ve been on board? He didn’t really… know. "Is it hard to aim? Do you like, use sound and such to do it?" He had to try and picture aiming with just sound. That had to be tough. Crazy even.
"Aw, well that’s a shame. You should really work on that, you’re missing out otherwise." Sebastian retorted to the lack of imagination. Maybe all the action just left no need to imagine anything which was understandable. Who had time to make up a story when you were running from Tauros and the like? He probably wouldn’t be either if he was doing something like that. Sebastian’s attention was diverted from looking around when Jay concealed the laugh, giving the man a sort of curious stare in the process. He grinned bit as the conversation diverted once more, a thoughtful expression crossing his own face as well. "There has to be something, right? I mean, there are literally tons of trainers out there with Digletts and Dugtrios. How has no one seen what’s under there?" More pokemon magic? It certainly seemed that way.
"I only travelled for a few months, to be honest." Sebastian replied thoughtfully. Thinking back on it, it hadn’t been all that long. "I was taking my time, trying to soak up all the excitement and experiences of it all, you know? That’s probably why I didn’t get very far…," The consequences of trying to enjoy yourself and travelling. Ah well, this was his second go and he’d soak it up all the same too. When Jay commented that he hadn’t done anything worthy of being inspirational or in helping his pokemon, Sebastian scoffed. "You’re more than a name and face to them Jay, I’m sure. If pokemon didn’t really need trainers than this whole thing probably wouldn’t work." He remarked sincerely. At least that was what he liked to think was the case; pokemon were hardly creatures that needed human supervision to get things done if one sat down and thought about it. There had to be value in that trainer-pokemon bond or else… it wouldn’t happen.
At the question of how long they should stay, Sebastian blinked. "Oh, however long you’d like." He rubbed a hand behind his ear, frowning a little as he watched a herd of Mareep shuffle by off to the fields to eat some grass. "I just haven’t seen anything else I might like to capture is all." He glanced back at Jay, smiling a bit. "I’ve still got plenty if you want to use them; I certainly don’t mind sharing." If he was only going to catch one pokemon than he might as well let the cowboy potentially use the rest, right? It made sense.

Jay grinned a bit. "'N ahm more 'quainted with ol' Western law from thuh movies ah grew up watchin'," he admitted, "Which aint at all like modern law." Which was really probably a good thing. He smirked as Sebastian pretty much claimed to be withholding his 'quality advice', continuing to walk with his head directed forward, listening to his companion. "Mm, well, ya might wanna give me uh bit've uh heads up 'fore ya give it. Just, y'know... in case," he replied, insinuating just as much in a playfully teasing way.
Jay gave a short laugh. "She reeeaaaally is. That woman could prolly snap uh tree with her hands 'n make Giratina itself obey her will without so much as uh pok'ball. 'N she knows crime rates 'r... up lately, so she didn' want her blind son gettin' taken advantage've 'r nothin'." He smiled a bit. "Which ah 'ppreciate." Jay did his best to be independent and above his handicap, but it was undeniable that he was handicapped in some departments. Even fully capable people could be helpless against some of the organizations around, but his blindness just made him a likely target. 'Easy prey' and all that, regardless of the truthiness of that assumption. "'N yeah, ah use mah echolocation 'n such. Trust me ah ain't no sharp shooter 'r nothin', but ah've hit targets 'n ah can get close, 'n usually, that's enough ta scare people inta backin' off. 'Specially when it ain't clear what ah was even aimin' fer."
Jay gave a deep shrug to Sebastian's remark on his imagination. "Dunno how, honestly," he admitted. It just didn't come very naturally to him. He smirked at Sebastian's comment on the digletts and dugtrios. "Yeah ah know, right? Yeh'd think some trainer would've accidentally, 'r 'accidentally', released it, say... in thuh air 'r somethin'. 'R in some water. Someone ought've found somethin' out by now," he remarked with some humor. Maybe they were just made out of dirt or something. Just carried a large lump of soil around them that became 'part' of them... Who knows.
Jay raised his eyebrows. A few months? "Well how long've you been travelin' now?" he asked. He knew Sebastian must have been traveling at least some time before they met, too, so... Hm. Come to think of it, how long had he been traveling? It felt like it was starting to get on quite a while. No wonder his mom and sister were badgering him a bit. He turned his head as Sebastian scoffed, quirking an eyebrow with a frown, but shaking his head some at his response. "Maybe, but t'be honest, ah think some've 'em jus' need ta know what direction they're goin, 'n they'll do thuh rest. Ah mean, just look't Crys. She found me, 'n pretty much told me ta just be her namesake fer contests. She knew what she wanted and she went on and did it. That's uh pretty independent pok'mon, ah'd say." And who knew how many others were like that? They went about doing what wild pokemon did, just waiting for a trainer to come so they could fight under their name in gym battles, training and exploring with the protection of a pokeball? Not to mention all the ease of the transportation equipment people had.
Jay smiled some. "Well that's mighty generous of you, but ah don' wanna keep ya hear longer'n need be. Ahm enjoyin' hearin' thuh pok'mon 'n learnin' thuh landscape, 'n ah have some've these pok'mon," he explained, gesturing as a Heracross scampered across a tree, "Still, though, if'n ya don' mind, s'pose we can at least explore 'round uh bit more. Ye've any idear what ya wanna do next?" Contests, gyms, training, traveling... their options were pretty open, really.

Sebastian’s eyebrows raised considerably at that comment. Wow… Western law from old style movies? "You mean the laws that apparently didn’t exist?" He joked back. At least most the movies he’d ever seen, the law seemed to be pretty much a free for all. He couldn’t quite imagine living in such a society. If only because he wasn’t really well equipped for it; he probably would do really well as the local undertaker though. Maybe. He smirked a little at the later teasing. "Well, if you’re ever looking for quality advice, just ask. No need to be shy about it." He nudged Jay, laughing a little in response.
He listened intently as the cowboy spoke about his mother, a clear look of astonishment on his face at the way Jay described her. "Yeah… definitely hardcore." That was one hell of a description; and a little frightening. "Remind me not to do anything that might get me on her hit list." He remarked, head tilting a bit. She certainly sounded like someone who was not to be messed with or peeved. He frowned a little in response to the whole ‘easy prey’ comment as well. That… was a fair enough point. It wasn’t very safe nowadays was it? Even with pokemon by ones side, you could never be sure. "Well that’s good to hear that you’ve got enough clout to make use of it. Though, you never did answer my question." He remarked, a bit of a joking tone in his voice as he did.
"You would think so. Or that a flying pokemon would come along and haul them into the air or something. Maybe they’re just one really, really, really long worm." Maybe the entire planet was secretly composed of the bodies of Digletts and Dugtrios and every one yanked from the ground was the slow demise of their living space? That was kind of a deep thought… Sebastian kept that to himself. He quirked an eyebrow at Jay’s question, head tilting a little in thought. "A month or so? Little less, little more? It honestly hasn’t been long I think…," Or maybe it had been. Days did sort of meld together when you didn’t sleep for long periods of time. Sebastian was guilty of that. He shook his head, listening further to Jay’s commentary on pokemon and trainer partnerships, thinking about it a bit.
"Well, providing them the direction they need still makes you pretty important." He remarked. After all, while everything he said about Crystal was true, the fact was she still apparently needed Jay, even for just a namesake. That meant something right? "But I suppose you’ve got a point. I’m sure there are quite a few pokemon out there who would just do well on their own." He wondered if any of his pokemon were like that. He had a hard time pinpointing any… maybe Dues. Or that Pichu who he still needed to name at some point. That was about all he could think of immediately. It was probably about time he spent a bit more time learning about his pokemon.
"You sure? I really don’t mind, I mean it." Sebastian remarked sincerely. He really didn’t mind; there were a lot of pokemon to take in after all. He didn’t want to go all crazy catching all these things he might never get to put to use. That was after all, the reason he’d let his first team go in the first place. He wouldn’t want to do that to new pokemon. Sebastian blinked and glanced at the Heracross as it shuffled along, quirking an eyebrow a bit. "That’s… a good point." He frowned a little, thinking as they walked along. "Well… I could probably do with more training. For the new pokemon I got. What about you though? Did you want to hit some gyms or something? Somewhere in particular you wanted to go?" He inquired. Sebastian was open for anything. He’d done quite a bit of travelling in the past couple of days… he could afford to let Jay choose if he wanted.

Jay grinned. "Perty much," he admitted. There were laws, but some of them were social laws, and some of them weren't enforced. It was funny, the way things worked back then... Obviously, his opinion on that was different from Sebastian's, but he at least wasn't glorifiying it. Scoffing a bit, he gave a slightly sarcastic, though playful, nod of his head. "Mhm, maybe I'll do that. 'Cept... perhaps not quite with datin'," he remarked with a smug, joking smirk.
Chuckling a bit, Jay reached up to adjust his hat. "Don' worry ah think yer safe. S'long as yer no poacher 'r criminal 'r somethin'," he remarked. He was, of course, exaggerating just a bit with his mother's description, but at the same time... he sort of wasn't. She couldn't actually snap trees or anything, but if mental fortitude and overpowering presence could equivocate physical strength, she could. The woman had damn near wrestled tauros to the ground, after all. "Which question's that?" he asked, lifting his head, "Thuh one 'bout it bein' hard ta shoot, or whether it's safer ta be behind 'r in front've me?" He thought he'd sort of answered both of those.... But maybe he missed one.
Jay gave a short little laugh. "Maybe they're just part've thuh ground'r somethin'. Ain't possible ta be removed from it, 'sides uh pok'ball. Still, certainly makes ya wonder.... Like, what happens if somethin' uses that move that, y'know... picks uh pok'mon up 'n stuff? Does it just bring uh buncha ground with it?" He shook his head, smiling some. Now he sort of wanted to try it, if he ever got the chance. He nodded some, frowning a bit as he puzzled over Sebastian's answer. Had it really been less than a month since they started traveling together?
Shaking off the pondering, he shrugged to Sebastian's point. "S'pose that's true, but how far they get 'n that direction ain't really thanks ta me, so thuh whole champion'n thing's still valid," he concluded, grinning a bit. He slowed a little as a gligar approached, rolling a bit of bait in his hand as he considered Sebastian's questions, and offers. "Hmm... Y'know, actually, now't ya mention it, ah should prolly head back ta Unova 'n try 'n battle some've thuh gyms there," he admitted, frowning a little, and putting the bait away, "Ah've heard there's some benefits ta battlin' in thuh region yer registered in. Ya care ta join?"

Sebastian mused a little. "Aw, you sure? I’m sure I’ve got great dating advice." He joked, shaking his head at the thought. Probably not, but it was fun to tease about nonetheless. Quirking an eyebrow he just shook his head in response. "Well I certainly hope that’s never the case then." Poachers were terrible and criminals… just as bad. He’d already had his fair share of the first in the Pokemon Tower, there was no desire on his part to donate to the cause. At Jay’s question of what he failed to answer, he once more shook his head and nudged him a little. "Nevermind about that." He finally remarked, straightening back up.
He grinned a bit at the thought. "Just living dirt? That’s kind of frightening to think about." He remarked amusingly. "What do you think would happen if you just got a bunch of them together in one spot then? That sounds like a great way to make a crater." A far superior way of digging a hole? How was he supposed to compete against that?
"I guess…," Was his final response on the idea. Maybe that’s really all it was but still, he thought it just wasn’t as simple as that. Or as unimportant anyways. He blinked and quirked an eyebrow, a smile crossing his face as Jay remarked on maybe returning to Unova. "I think that’d be a great idea. There really is a benefit to it. You get all kinds of neat new TMs and skills and such." He remarked in a chipper tone. He eyed the Gilgar as it flew away, watching Jay a moment as he seemed to debate catching it or not before continuing speaking. "Sure, I’d be happy too! I’ve never actually been to Unova myself, it’d be nice to see." He was supposed to be out and about travelling to the regions; it’d be nice to see the place and with company. "Is there a lot to see there? I’ve heard it’s got some pretty interesting cities."

Jay scoffed, perhaps a bit more than he should have, or meant to, at Sebastian's playful claim. "Sorry," he apologized, giving a bit of a wave, "S'just, yer only datin' advice so far's been 'tell 'er how good she smells', perty much." He grinned. "Don't 'zactly instill thuh most conf'dence, Sebs." He raised his eyebrows and tilted his head in a sort of 'no kidding' remark to Sebastian's comment on being a poacher and/or criminal. He was pretty sure that wouldn't be a problem, though. He quirked an eyebrow when Sebastian gave him a little nudge and dimissed his own question, looking a mix of confused and amused. "Al... righty then," he agreed, chuckling a bit as he rbubbed the back of his neck.
He raised both eyebrows when Sebastian mentioned creating a crater with digletts and dugtrios. "What, like... if'n ya put uh lot've 'em in one place, 'n then returned 'em all ta make one big, missin' bit've dirt?" he asked, gesturing like he was collecting something into one place, and then lifting it up. He smirked, dropping his hands back to his sides. "That sure would be somethin'." And certainly rather efficient at that... and also destructive.
Tilting his head, Jay listened as Sebastian boasted over the advantages of going to an original region, and nodded, thinking it over a bit more. "Well alright, le's do it, then," he decided, turning to head back in the general direction they'd come from. Scy quickly slipped ahead so that he could help ead the way for Jay, and the ginger tossed his remaining bait over his shoulder for the pokemon to enjoy. Heading towards the entrance/exit, he gave a tilt of his head, thinking over the question. "Mm, yeeaaah... s'perty interestin'. Dunno if ahm thuh best one ta tell yew bout thuh cities, though. Lot've 'em sound kinda similar ta me.... Unova's got uh perty big city ah think, but ah also don' spend uh lotta time 'n 'em. Think that was where ah battled Burgh, though..." He paused, considering the matter of gyms. "Say, speakin' of, didja wanna take on thuh gyms while yer there, too? We can always head ta thuh first one if'n ya want."

Sebastian quirked an eyebrow, frowning a little. "Hey now, I never claimed that was dating advice. That conversation was about whether you could ever mention smells as comments to people. It just kind of led to dating." He smirked a little. "I’ve got plenty of other advice that’d probably do you well if you wanted it." He jested. His tone was a bit ambiguous, though the joking intent was still clear underneath whatever else was going on there. He eyed the cowboy a moment as he seemed to agree, dismissing the joke for what it was. Sebastian chuckled a little to himself; Jay really was the practical sort wasn’t he?
"Yeah! I mean, if they’re just potentially what… dirt underneath their bodies than what would happened if you caught a bunch of them out of the ground?" He remarked thoughtfully. "It’d be a great way to make a quick hole for like… a pool or something I bet." He grinned. That was not how you made pools of course, not even close but well… if anyone ever did attempt to do it, they could use that as an excuse in court. Maybe. "I kind of want to see what would happen now if someone did that… maybe with just a small amount of them though." Just a small hole.
He grinned as Jay seemed to agree with the benefits of going through the original region. "Great!" He replied, clapping his hands together in the process. He followed along as Scy directed Jay towards the entrance. He watched as the cowboy tossed the remainder of his bait and opted to do the same, watching a moment as the pokemon practically swarmed to enjoy the goods. He picked up his pace and fell in line, listening as Jay spoke about some of the cities, chuckling a little. "Well to be fair, I’d probably say the same. Lavender Town isn’t exactly big… I just know cities are much bigger." He’d been to Goldenrod a couple of times and that was about it. Kalos was crazy enough; he couldn’t imagine them getting much bigger. But still, he couldn’t deny being interested. "Not a big city guy then, huh?" He teased. It was pretty clear that no, Jay wasn’t; probably figured from part stereotype and part observation.
At the mention of gyms, Sebastian blinked and thought a moment. "Ah, it depends, would that be too out of the way? Is there anything special to the first few leaders?" It would be worthwhile to train up his other pokemon, to keep up an even team if he could. But he certainly didn’t want a repeat of Kalos with gym leaders having sneaky secondary typings on their pokemon. "I don’t want to hold you up or anything either, if you’re intent on getting the gyms done. "
