Character: Axel Halle

After the disaster at the banquet, Axel was half-expecting some disaster at the parade as well. When he showed up, mostly out of curiosity, everything seemed to be going well. He wrinkled his nose. There was a definite horsey smell though. Axel wasn't terribly fond of horses. They were too big, too smelly, too expensive.

Spotting a few familiar faces already hanging around, Axel headed over to the parade planning booth. His mother was manning their own booth for now, leaving him free to wander around. Parades and celebrations in general weren't really his thing, but there was a feeling of excitement in the air that was hard to ignore. He nodded as the trainee told him a bit more about the parade.

Pulling a barge? No. He would be good at it, but he didn't particularly want to spend his free time pulling barges. The idea of dancing around in a costume was just horrifying. He shuddered slightly, imagining himself prancing around in public. So participating in the parade itself was out.

Axel took one of the volunteer security armbands. He had never been trained to fight, not like the trainees and officers present, but at least he was tall. He could throw a punch and glare menacingly at people cutting up. That would be a help, and he wouldn't be pulling barges. He slid the armband on and walked up to the group of people he'd met at the banquet, feeling cheerful.

Axel nodded to Elliot, Alec and Shun in greeting. "No one's getting me in a costume," he said, jumping into the conversation. "But I guess the Equine Show will be interesting. As long as we're not the ones cleaning up after it." Axel wrinkled his nose again.

Character: Preacher

A parade? Perfect. While a parade crowd was usually stationary, they were also preoccupied by the spectacle. Or so Preacher had been told. Lifting was a never-ending round of profits and consequences. She briefly debated sitting this one out. After all, she had already lifted three coin purses, a few pieces of jewelry, and a finely stitched handkerchief. Maybe it would be best to wait this out... It looked as though people were still a little jumpy after the banquet.

Preacher slid over to the volunteer booth. Volunteering would, after all, give her an excuse to read the crowd closely. Nothing appealed to her, except the volunteer security. Being security meant she wouldn't be taken for a gang member should they show back up. The irony of a thief as security was just to good to pass up. A sly grin slid across her face as she touched the armband.

"Is it alrigh' iffin I sign up for security, then? I'm not sure I'd be good at much else, y'know." She grinned at the trainee.

The Semblance of Unity

"Hm?" Lloren looked up from her papers to the navy-haired girl addressing her. "Hello, hello!" She smiled as she delivered a chipper greeting, casually lifting the frame of her glasses with a quick push of a finger. One glance at those armwraps and tatters and you could tell this wasn't your average volunteer. Normally, one shouldn't hand a security band to anyone suspicious; Her manner of speech had been like a hooligan's. Yet the trainee's imagination took her places. A street kid working hard to better the reputation of her kind, trying best as she could to make the world a better place! Protecting the young and vulnerable, like she had once been! That's so beautiful. She shook her head clear of these fantasies, the sharpness in her hazel eyes entirely gone. Instead, there was something like endearment in her voice as she presented the new volunteer with a form.
"Sure! Just fill in your name, address and occupation here first, then grab an armband from the pile. It's only to be worn on the job. Do you have any questions about work?"

As he was leaning up against the wall Cyril's eyes looked up when he heard a cheerful voice. She sure was loud enough to snap him out of his daydreaming. Jeez how can you be so cheerful in the morning he thought to himself. Cyril looked up at the small group not to far from him. He recognized most of their faces.

Staring over at Shun "So whats the famous "Commander Shun" doing here? Parades don't seem like your style."
he said with a smirk on his face.

This was so exciting! The parade was going to be amazing, and best of all, she was going to be a part of it. That's right; she, Zin, was going to be part of the trainee marching band! She would do her part flawlessly, and make everyone watching happy to see that their future was in safe hands!

But... Until then, she had a trash bag in her gloved hands. This was less than glamorous work, but she was used to grunt work, being a trainee youngster. Better this than running laps, anyway... She kept herself motivated by telling herself that clean-up was just as important as marching in the parade. After all, this was supposed to be a celebration of how far humanity had come! It simply would not do to have litter on the streets on such a momentous occasion.

"Eww..." Zin muttered, gingerly picking up a piece of paper that was covered in what she hoped was mud. She dropped it in the bag and wiped her brow on her forearm. Yes, this was much less glorious work than she had imagined when she'd signed up to join the military. But it would all be worth it in the end. She could become a part of the Military Police and go to the inner city, or she could join the stationary troops and be admired by everyone at home, or she could become a part of the survey league and see the outside world. It was just too hard to choose!

She blinked and looked down. Ah, she had started to daydream about the future again. Time to get back to work! She'd show every last scrap of junk on the ground who was boss!

A light grunt escaped him as both Alec and Elliot had decided to ask about why Danny called him 'Commander.'

"I got recruited earlier," he said flatly. He was technically military now, though he hadn't actually done anything with them just yet. Personally, he didn't think the nickname was really suitable for him currently, but he had a feeling Danny won't be stopping anytime soon.

Catching Axel's nod, he nodded curtly in turn. At least there were others who felt that getting in a costume was a ridiculous idea. He also took note that the boy had a security armband now. As did Preacher. Well maybe that might be a thing to do.

Then, as Cyril addressed him, he let out a sigh, "It's not. Someone pointed me here."

Farvardin had heard of the parade and some how managed to find it (wandering about town until you stumble upon people prepping for it helps). She walked over to the tented booth and walked up to the front desk. She listened to what the trainee said and looked at the doodles. Well she didn't really fit into any of the categories cause she couldn't dance for the life of her. She could probably help drag the barges but it was the security armbands that caught her attention. "Hey... could I sign up to help with security?" She asked.

Rikki weaved through the crowd, looking for familiar faces. He happened to still be wearing the bouquet of hairpins Elliot had put on him earlier, so there were a few odd looks, but he didn't pay them any mind.

When he saw a flash of fiery hair, he raced for it. "Danny! Hey!"

He thought he saw the peach blur of Elliot as he went by, too. He was actually meeting a lot of people today. Jeez.

Lenore sighed to herself for what had to be the hundredth time that week. First the booth, now this. The manager was really desperate for attention to his store, huh. Too bad for him, the girl had little inclination to advertise for the store while picking up garbage.

She spotted another girl picking up trash a few meters away. Recognizing her from the booth, Lenore dropped a soggy piece of paper into her bag before going over to her. Giving the girl a blank stare, she spoke. "So how'd you get roped into trash picking?

"Oh, hi!" Zin said, recognizing Lenore. "Oh, I dunno, I just thought that I could be the most useful here," she said, picking up another piece of trash and dropping it in her bag. "I'm going to be in the parade later," she added with a hint of smugness. Her expression cleared and she grinned at Lenore as if they were already best friends.

"Say, I didn't catch your name earlier," Zin began. She reached out a gloved hand to the stranger. "My name's Zinnia Hayes, but please call me Zin. It's nice to meet you..." She paused, waiting for the other girl to introduce herself.

Remembering her lie from earlier, a small grin crossed her face. "Harold." Looking down at the girl's hand, Lenore shook it with her own gloved hand. "Why would you want to be in the parade?" She asked, tilting her head.

Preacher raised a brow at the trainee's odd (was it pitying?) tone. She didn't need anyone's pity. Whether pity or something else, Preacher simply scribbled her info down.

Preacher Maria (Pastor Hoen told her to simply use the wall's name if anyone required a last name from her. What a hassle.)
Eastern Alleyway
______________

And then she stared at 'occupation'. Preacher couldn't very well put down thief or gang member or extortionist or any of the things she might have done to make coin. Instead, she left it blank. A lie of omission, she supposed. With the armband, Preacher suddenly felt dreadfully official. It was not a pleasant feeling. She rolled her shoulders and pulled her hat lower on her head. It was a miracle the damn thing had stayed on throughout the banquet fight.

"Reckon it's pretty much watchin' people, herdin' em, making sure parade runs smooth as greased owl s**t?" As she spoke her eyes wandered to the other security volunteers. She gave Shun a sloppy, two-fingered salute. From what she knew of him, he wouldn't be anywhere but here. A little birdie had told her he was recruited now. It was an odd thought, but she guessed he was alright with it. Preacher hadn't seen his gang running about recently, though. She opened her mouth to ask him when she caught sight of an unfortunately familiar blond head. It wasn't too late to change her volunteer status, but she'd be damned before she'd change anything because of him.

"You're on security detail too?" Incredulity threaded through her words as she stared at Axel. He could only be breathing and he'd rub her the wrong way. Preacher couldn't quite figure out why,. but it definitely didn't stop her from sauntering a few paces closer. "Thought you woulda been pullin' barges witcha man arms." She turned to the others standing nearby. "'Lo. Name's Preacher. Ya'll security detail too?"

"Er... Harold..." Zin repeated with a confused look on her face. Why would a girl be named Harold? However, she managed not to ask out loud and quickly replaced her puzzled expression with a smile. "I'm going to be in the marching band with the other trainees," she explained, releasing Lenore's hand so she could salute, one hand clenched behind her back, still holding the trash bag, and the other twisted over her heart. She grinned and returned to a more relaxed pose.

"It's an honor, don't you think?" she asked. "We're showing everybody how great Shiganshina is!"

No member of the encasing that were the grand walls that protected humanity could be oblivious to the excitement heavily laced through the air. Every corner, and down each street -- even in the mountains! -- one would hear about the festivities that were being provided for the astounding one hundred years of peace from the tyrants that were Titans. So it was no surprise that even Mykanos, a native to the mountains and forests of the humans territory, was also aware of the celebrations being held. Not one to really partake in such events, it was in turn a rarity that he did indeed venture into the hustle and bustle of the more populated areas to take a gander at what was being provided for such a momentous occasion. It was mostly due to the fact that his mother was so insistent that he get out more, and try to socialize. Well, when she had been alive, that is. But still, he tried his best to abide by the few wishes she'd left him with.

Beautiful, glossy, straight hair streamed flawlessly behind him as he floated along the hardened ground of compacted cobblestone, the spiked strands that created a small, alert-mohawk, bobbed faintly with each step. Many looks were spared his way, those unable to identify the stranger, his exotic appearance also making him stand out, to his dismay. Caramel skin shimmered as the sunlight graced it, pale eyes sparkling, though a blank expression kept in place on his face. His own attention was drawn towards the canal, and the setting up that was clearly happening. Well... perhaps he could be of some use there...

Sauntering over casually, his gaze veered straight to the roles that he could sign up for. Sweeping... scrubbing.. he could do those. However, security did sound a little more up his alley in terms of usefulness.

Shun was quiet, but Axel got the distinct impression that Shun wasn't thrilled about the parade. Axel wasn't exactly thrilled either. After seeing the thugs crash the banquet, he couldn't shake the disquieting feeling that something unpleasant might happen at the parade as well.

There's nothing here to steal, he reminded himself. Nothing any simple street thugs would want to steal, anyways. He doubted a bunch of toughs would try to swipe the horses out from under military officers.

And then an all-too-familiar voice piped up. He had been scanning the crowd, idly wondering if he would have to do anything other than shoo children away from the horses, and hadn't seen Preacher until the boy reached them. He fixed Preacher with a glare. "I thought you would be picking pockets," Axel snapped, irritated by Preacher's jab about pulling barges. He felt a bit guilty about not volunteering to help with the barges, which made it worse. He leaned in closer to Preacher, lowering his voice slightly. "It's a good thing I volunteered for security. Now I can keep an eye on you."
