S E N J A ' S . T A L E That was fun, I got to go explore the rumored ruins in Tale! I didn't find any real treasure, but another part of the group did! I asked them about it and tried to write a song about it.. but I just can't get it written! I try to produce beautiful lyrics like I can when I dance or play my pipes, but when I write stuff? So terrible! Maybe I should leave writing to others....Won (in addition to being able to count this as an RP) Cloak and dye

S E N J A ' S . T A L E Solo: Ete's Entrance! words: 1610 It was a week since Senja had left home to travel with her new friend Niadra and the traveling troupe. It was a week filled with new, odd, fun, and sometimes sad things. Sad because she was waking up and not seeing her family, fun and new because of the new setting and people, odd because they were all non shifters and had very different customs. Senja was quite flexible and open minded, so she was able to take most of it in stride. Especially since she was getting lessons on new techniques, songs, and dances! Learning how to play the strange instruments, how to make them, learning other race’s dances and music, and above all, being with Niadra who was far closer to a sister than a friend. The food was definitely different and she found she missed that almost as much as hearing her families voices. New cute guys to flirt with, new friends, all in all a very nice change in pace. But difficult, oh my was it difficult! Even when they were traveling there was still lessons to be had, still chores that had to be done, and learning on how to act in new places. Senja soon learned that if she wanted a break, she had to make it look like she was doing something productive. Sitting with her pipes and a sheet of new music to practice often worked, though not always. Like today. One of the children of the troupe had wandered off while they were packing up the camp. His mother had looked around and seen Senja not quite doing anything and decided that since she was a shifter, she ought to know the jungle and be able to quickly find her lost son. Senja merely smiled and handed her the music sheets. “Sure I’ll go looking for him! I’ve got some younger siblings myself so I know their tricks. If you could hold on to this for me while I go look?” She asked with a smile. This wouldn’t be that bad. And better than lugging around too heavy tents and boxes for other people! That and if she went now, she should be able to find him before others were dragged into the search and the kid got in trouble. Humming to herself, she slipped into the jungle, looking for footprints that were small. Grinning to herself when she spotted some next to a bush that had some berries on it and more squished on the ground, Senja gave chase to the young scamp. It was fairly safe about here, but this was still a jungle, still dangerous. And a young boy covered in berry juice was easy for predators to scent an kill. As she went further into the jungle, Senja paused at hearing something odd. A buzzing sound. Crouching still in a shadow, her dark daytime skin blending into the shadow, she waited for a bit. The sound was getting closer… and there was muttering? Strange. But muttering meant someone and a person may have seen the boy! So she stepped out into the open and called out, “Hello? I’m searching for a small Leaf boy, he’d be covered in berry juice?” Her sweet and melodious voice was dampened by the jungle, but she noticed the buzzing and muttering stopped then started up again, coming towards her faster. Senja’s eye’s widened and a grin split her face when she saw what was making the noise; a Summer Sprite! The small creature, glowing a pale amber, was a small fairy with buzzing wings sprouting from her hips. Her delicate frame was a dark orange with light gold stripes on her tiny tail and long legs. The Sprite had 4 arms, two were crossed across her chest and two planted on her hips as she hovered in front of Senja. “Big she-man looking for smaller he-man? Ete found him, the twit! Eating Ete’s food!” Senja smiled at the chittering Sprite and held up a hand for her to land on. While Ete had spoken, all she heard was a tweeting and chirping sound. Like small bells mixed with “Why hello there, small one. Hopefully you can understand me since I can't understand you! I'm called Senja and am looking for a young Leaf Tribe boy.” She said respectfully with a smile. Summer Sprites were rare creatures and she’d never seen one before this close. When she’d been a child, she’d seen a few of them dancing on a summer’s night, but that had been at a distance and they’d soon flown off. Ete lightly landed on Senja’s hand and shook her head at her, “Ete is Ete. You is Senja big she-man? Senja good name. Smaller he-man is stupid and loud. He ignore Ete and eat all food! The brat, he needs lesson! Bad twit eat all Ete’s food! Ete has to go foraging again!” She chittered angrily before flying off Senja’s hand and into the jungle. “This way, Ete show you so you take twit away! This way!” She motioned to Senja to make it clear that she wanted for the larger girl to follow. "Dunno why you not understand, I speak just fine! Big people must be deaf...."Senja giggled to herself as she trotted after the buzzing Sprite. It was certianly funny listening to the irritated buzzing and chiming of the sprite. She couldn't understand what the other one was saying, but it did sound very disgruntled! Ete hovered to a halt and pointed with one set of arms at a small pudgy leaf boy finishing off a pile of berries while the other set propped themselves disappointingly on her tiny hips. She “It’s time to go back to camp. You’re mother isn’t very happy with you and neither am I.” Senja said sternly as she walked over to pick him up. “Noooo! Don’t wanna go back! I’m tired of chores. I can live here, there’s plenty of food and no chores out here!” The boy began to struggle and tried to escape. Senja would have none of that. She grabbed his belt and held on to the struggling boy as Ete chattered at them in her piping voice. Ete chittered a laugh. “Brat-boy is stupid! Big nest of nasties near here. Only small Ete live safely! He-man die quickly here unless in big clan! See, look!” She fluttered down to the ground and pulled back a leaf to reveal a crushed skull. “Is dangerous here. Though Ete wouldn't mind you dying Brat-boy. You eat Ete’s food!”Senja, not sure what the sprite had said but thinking that she didn't like the tone of it, shrugged. " I don't know why you are too upset, miss sprite, but if you can understand me, we have some extra food for you as thanks for showing me to the boy. Would you like some?" She asked hesitantly. Ete nodded and fluttered off into the woods, beckoning to Senja to follow. Maybe she knows where to go? Senja thought with a shrug, it was in the right direction so the sprite must have some idea! The boy began to cry as Sejna hauled him up off the ground and dragged him back towards the camp. She shook her head in disgust. What had his mother been doing with him? Hadn’t she told him the dangers out here and certain manners? Oh well, I’ll be rid of him soon she thought as she came into view of the camp. Alran, a tall Leaf man that was nicely muscled and had a quick grin, looked up at the crying sounds and shook his head. “I see you found him? Did he say something like wanting to live in the wild and not do chores again?” He said in disgust. Senja sighed and nodded. “”His mother just came by here demanding we go out and find him. “Yup, after eating all the berries that Ete here had gathered.” She nodded at the Summer Sprite who landed on her shoulder as Senja set the boy down, keeping a grip on his hand. “I promised some food to make up for what he ate.” Ete sniffed with disdain. “Brat-boy is stupid. He thinks he can live here. t**t! Big nest of nasties near here.” Alran’s eyes widened at the sight of her. Summer sprites were often considered a good omen to many. “Well, I’ll be damned, a summer sprite! And I guess from the look, she's not happy with the boy?" He looked over at Senja who nooded and grinned. "I found him in a pile of mostly eaten berries. They might have been here's since she's so upset. I did offer her food in exchange for showing me to the boy, and I think she understands." Ete rolled her eyes, of course she understood! She wasn't deaf like big people! Alran shook his head, "So he pissed off a sprite, that's not good. Maybe chief will finally put his foot down and make his mother take responsibility and stop spoiling him. As for food, you can go to that large yellow wagon and get some there. My mother’s always wanted to see a sprite and will probably give you anything you ask for!” Ete nodded and zipped off as he with a grin and called out to another Leaf member. “Hey Julionca! Senja brought back the boy! Can you go take him to his mother?” “Why don’t you do it?” “Cause I have a tent to finish packing!” Muttering, Julionca took the boy off while Senja turned to Alran with a flirty smile. “I’m all packed, but I’m certain I can help you somehow~”

S E N J A ' S . T A L E Solo: Dancing Lessons words: 1363 “Faster Senja! That turn was too slow. Lift that leg up higher Keli. You’re jumping too soon Roliana! You need to be in step with your partners!” The Dancer instructor called out in a commanding voice, surprisingly deep for a female. Senja and her fellow dancers were practicing for an upcoming show in the next village. It would be Senja’s first time performing in front of an audience with this troupe, all other times she’d been with the musicians providing music instead. She was eager to prove herself to the troupe; while she loved music, dancing was still her favorite. She’d been dancing all her life, and had been dancing at some of the bigger cities. But not with the troupe, that was her going out and dancing with musical back up on the streets to make some extra cash for herself. She wanted more, she wanted to dance on that stage with the troupe! She had finally gotten her chance when one of the main dancers turned up pregnant. She was married, so the toupe knew it was bound to happen. Which meant a switch up and a chance for Senja to joint he dancers. She wasn’t getting a major part, but she didn’t mind. Over the past few months of traveling with the troupe, Senja had gotten used to staying in the background. Musicians may be an important part to the dancing, but you never actually saw them, your eyes were always on the dancers. She hadn’t liked it at first, after all, what teenage girl didn’t want to be the center of attention? But she’d found that after a while, it didn’t matter as much. But she still wanted to play to a crowd, dance for them. That hadn’t changed in years. Even when she’d been at home, she’d adored playing in public on stage. Now she had her chance. The dancer’s positions were all changed and they allowed her to join, which meant everyone had to learn new parts and dance with different partners. So practice practice practice! Traveling had given Senja the needed stamina she hadn’t had before joining, so she wasn’t in as much pain as she used to be when practicing at home. She had private practices too, all of them did. After all, the minor dancers had to be perfectly in step, on the beat, and no mistakes. If a mistake happened, it threw them all off, which could and did throw the primary dancers off. Senja smothered a smile at that thought. One of the other girls had messed up in a practice run yesterday and it’d caused several accidents. Amusing to watch, which Senja had since she’d been back right hand of the stage at the time, well out of the scramble result. She had a talent for dancing, and never missed matching her moves to the music. She didn’t base the movement off of other’s like many of the girls did. That was far too hard, how was she to know when they’d step? She wasn’t a mind reader! So she learned the music, and learned on what note she was to move. It made it a whole lot easier for her and she didn’t have to keep twitching to keep an eye on other dancers. It had earned her some respect, since the dancing teacher had noticed Senja hadn’t missed a beat like some of the other’s despite being newer to this. A few of the older girls were unhappy, but Senja could deal with that. After the practice was over and everyone was cooling down, one of the other girls, Roliana, walked over to her. Senja looked up from her crouched position as she stretched her legs and gave the girl a smile. Roliana smiled back and came quickly to the point. “How do you keep in time with the other’s Senja? You haven’t practiced as long as I have, and yet you make less mistakes.” She pouted slightly and sighed as she bent down next to Senja to do her cool down stretches. Senja thought on how to phrase her answer to not sound arrogant. The girl had come for help, and Senja wasn’t about to refuse her! A dance that had many people in it needed to be cohesive and not have the dancers dislike each other. It ruined the dance. “Hmm, well. I dance to the music and base my moves off of that. I know what notes are coming up, and what movements go with what series of notes. I think you’re trying to follow the other’s led, which means you’re behind them instead of with them.” She said as she bent over and grabbed her feet to stretch her back . “Course, I’ve been playing the music to this dance while I watch you dance it at other performances, and that helped. I’m no mind reader, and am not good at reading other’s moves. It’s easier to learn where I need to be and what I need to be doing, instead of thinking of what am I supposed to do in relation to other’s. This way, I’m where I’m supposed to be, and not worrying if I’m the right distance from the other’s or am I ahead or behind the music. Just be in the place you are supposed to be and follow the music. If someone is out of line, it won’t mess you up then, since you aren’t basing your movement off of them anymore.” She looked over at the other girl’s thoughtful face.. “Did that make sense?”“Oh! Yes, yes it did. For someone new, you’re awfully knowledgeable.” She said with a smile. Senja laughed and shook her head. “I may be new here, but I’ve been dancing my entire life with my family and performing at the theaters back home. So I have experience, just not with Leaf style dances and this group.”“Oh, that makes sense! Some of the other’s think you’re a showoff and are trying to steal their spots.” Roliana said in a conspirator’s voice as she winked at Senja. Giggling, Senja finished her stretches and stood up. “Pssh, why would I steal it? I am new here, so I know I won’t be given a very important part yet. Later though, if I’m still here. Then they’d better watch out!” Roliana stood up with her and walked out of the practice area. “Oh-ho! So they are right to be worried! And they should be. You have some good moves, even if you are short!” She nudged Senja in the ribs with a grin. Senja snorted, so she was the smallest female in the troupe! “Size has nothing to do with it! I worked hard to get this good! Not my fault you’re all too tall! Sides, some guys like short girls.” She gave a lazy grin and eyed one such guy who’d been flirting with her lately. Roliana laughed out loud. “You flirt! How do you avoid fights if you flirt with everyone?” “Cause I flirt with everyone! No one get’s left out.” She nodded sagely to herself and skipped forward a few steps . “If you don’t make it so that the guys have to fight for your attention, then you can get along with all of them! Friends are nice things to have. Plus, if you don’t sleep with them, then they can’t accuse you of cheating and all that nonsense!” “Oh? Flirt but nothing else?” “Yup, until I find a special person.” Roliana paused and thought for a moment. “That works. Plus if the other’s hear that, they’ll stop being jealous I guess.” “They just need to go talk to the guy they like instead of waiting for him to go to them!” Senja sniffed and tossed her hair. “You can’t expect the guys to be able to read your mind and know you want to talk to them!”Senja and Roliana walked off, chatting happily about girl things. The next few days Senja helped Roliana learn the music, which caused her to dance on time and not miss her cues and steps. The practices went much faster and better as everyone learned their new moves and places.

S E N J A ' S . T A L E Solo: Lost! Words: 1480 The Leaf Tribe Performing troupe had traveled all over Sauti and Tale and had come to the base of Zena’s mountains to stop and perform at the villages there. But before the performances, was a few days off maintenance and preparation as the Zena tribes men set up a small festival area. It made more sense to have them come down then to have the leaf tribe go up into the snowy mountains. So every year or so, they came here and performed at the same area as last time. The musicians and dancers were all ready for the performances, so there was a break in practice while people got used to the cold and helped set up the tents and stages. Warmer clothes and boots had been given out to them to battle the wintry chills, heavy blankets brought out, huge fire pits dug and Senja was bored. She’d helped out with the set up, but found herself with a lot of free time on her hands. She looked up at the towering mountain with its white covering and wondered what t was like up there. She’d seen many different types of places since she’d joined the Troupe, but nothing like this! She’d only go up for a bit and see what it was like be back before the performances started! She thought with a grin as she grabbed a bag and pulled on the thicker clothes that she’d been give plus her new boots. They were not dancing clothes and covered much more of her than she usually had covered, but Senja didn’t mind since it was warm. This cold was killer! She was so used to the humid heat of the jungle that even Sauti and Tale had seemed so different; but compared to the cold winds and snow, Zena made them feel like Jahaur. Ete had been buried and sleeping in a pile of furs that Senja slept in. When she heard Senj gather her stuff, she chittered a question. She didn't like the cold, she was a summer sprite! What was Senja doing with all those clothes on? Senja turned at the sound of Ete’s tinkling voice. She smiled and said, “I’m off to go and wander up the mountain for a bit since I have a few days before the performance!” She knew Ete could understand her even is she couldn’t understand Ete. Which was proved by Ete quickly zipping over to her and chattering angrily. Senja giggled and winked at Ete, “Oh come on, don’t be a spoil sport! What could go wrong? All I’m doing is walking up then walking back down.” She knew that Ete saw her as very irresponsible, but Senja was almost an adult! She could tell her way about the place! Plus, how hard was it to get lost in a mountain? All you had to do was go down to get off it! Despite Ete’s objections, Senja headed off. Ete wanted to stay behind, where she knew it was warm and she wouldn't be forced to go into hibernation, but she couldn’t let Senja go out there alone! The idiot girl would get lost, she just knew it! Ete burrowed herself into the furry hood on Senja’s jacket as Senja left the camp, telling the guards she was going out for a walk and would be back tomorrow or some time around then. Playing a cheerful lilting tune on her many chambered pipes, Senja walked in the chilly air up the inclining rocky ground. There was only small stunted trees and shrubs to break the white and brown landscape. It was completely alien when compared to her bright and colorful jungle home, though it was beautiful in its own right. The longer she walked, the more snow there was, and eventually Senja wandered up into the snow; the going getting harder as the snow began to pile up and the air got colder and colder. She put up her pipes and put Ete inside her coat, pulling up the hood and shivering. Maybe I should head back? Senja thought as she watched the sky darken with clouds. She didn’t like the look of them, they were dark and fluffy, the promise of precipitation. Turning around, Senja walked as fast as she could back down the mountain, not wanting to get caught in a storm. Ete slept on, warmed by Senja and the jacket. Clouds came in from the north, boiling over the mountain top and bringing with them a cold wet wind. It smelled of moisture and ice, and the temperature took a steep dive as it began to blow. The snow started suddenly, like the downpours of her home jungles summer storms. The thick fluffy flakes whitened the world about Senja; sound became muffled except for the howling of the wind, and all sight was taken away. Senja stumbled blindly in the snow, trying to head down the mountain, but the blizzard blinded her and coated the world in snow, making it impossible to tell where she was headed. What an idiot I was! Senja berated herself as she tripped and fell into a snow bank. How hard could it be to get lost in a mountain, all you had to do was head down, she thought bitterly on her earlier thoughts. It’s easy to get lost! She sat down and shivered, her hands held protectively about the place where Ete was sleeping in her jacket. Ete woke up and sighed. She knew it! She knew this would happen! She chittered disapprovingly at Senja as she looked out of the warm leather and fur clothing where she hid. All around was snow, wind, and white. Ete though, sensed something warm nearby. Heard something on the wind that was alive. What ever it was, it was from here right? It’d be able to help! She flew out of her hiding place and motioned for Senja to stay there. She patted her on the head and zipped off into the cold, flying in a weaving path as she dodged snowflakes. She shivered in the cold and felt her instincts telling her to dive into the ground, hide from the cold, get warm. But she had to help Sneja! That fool girl needed looking after! She flew right at the warm large thing that she’d heard rumbling and walking about in the snow a little while ago. Large warm thing.. furry warm thing! She chittered happily as she burrowed into the mammu’s thick fur hide. Large thing! Must help! Senja fool big-she-man needs help! The mammu stopped and poked at the area Ete was burrowed in with her trunk. Small chittering thing, what are you saying? Why have you flown in there? One does not know this Senja you speak of.Ete crawled up along the mammu’s side, admiring the pale icy blue white fur with it’s dark blue staining stripes. Senja is Senja! Fool girl wants to explore. Ete told her was bad idea, but big people can’t understand Ete. Fool got caught, cold and stuck now! You come and help, yes?One will help. One is lost from one’s herd and cannot find them. Maybe one will find a new herd with you. The large female mammu moved off ponderously, crunching her way through the blizzard with ease to where Senja was. The snow was blinding yes, but she could hear Senja, and she wrapped her trunk about the shivering girl and pulled her up as she stomped the snow flat about her. Lying down, she curled cat like about Senja, making sure that the girl was hidden beneath her thickest fur, protecting her like she would a child. Senja squeaked as a trunk came out of nowhere and grabbed her, she would have struggled but she was far too cold, and when she Heard Ete’s chittering she knew her small friend had found help. he burrowed happily into the thick long fur. “Thank you.” She murmured, not sure if the mammu could understand her and knowing she wouldn’t understand any reply. She looked at Ete as the small sprite tumbled into her hands from the fur above her. “Does this mammu have a name?” She asked. Ete shrugged, it was a big beast! How did they have names? Senja took the shrug to mean no. “Then I’ll call her Shilea… Shilea’s a nice name.” She muttered sleepily as she fell asleep, warm at last. Ete looked at her and sighed. You want name big beastie? Senja fool-girl calls you Shilea. Shilea? Yeah. A name. Like Ete is Ete and Senja is Senja. You no have name? No. One has no… name. But Shilea.. One likes. One will call one’s self Shilea. The newly named Mammu gently touched Senja’s sleeping head with her trunk. A name sounded like a nice thing. Maybe she’d found a new herd?

S E N J A ' S . T A L E Solo: Home once more, time to share Words: 1050 Senja and Rastian had gotten to her house over a week ago… a very long and slightly nerve wracking week for Senja. Her male siblings, all older than her and it turned out very protective, had done the silent (and not so silent) inquisition to Rastian. Why do they have to be so protective now of all times? They were never this much of a busy body when I was here as a child! Sheesh! At least mother understands… enough to tell father to stop being so stubborn and not kick Rastian out of the house.. or make him stay in a different room! Senja smiled at the memory, cuddling was a new favorite activity of hers! Be a pain if Rastian had to keep sneaking into her room or she his…. Much simpler to just b open about their relationship.. It was very amusing to see her father growl and huff about it! Rastians polite attitude (and obvious skill at healing and the fact that he wasn’t a useless wastrel) had won over her older brother, sisters, and mother… just not the twins or her father. They’ll get used to it! Senja thought with a sniff as she headed down to the theatre for lessons. Rastain’s here to stay! And if they don’t like it, then I’m sure he and I can find a home elsewhere! Though she really would prefer that her family all get along with him… it was nice being home again. Traveling around had been fun, horizon expanding.. but there was something about having a home, something fixed and stable that made the wandering life not as attractive to her. I guess that’s one reason father let me leave in the first place, let me see the world in a safe group so I can compare the lifestyles… and hopefully return home to stay! She thought as she entered the practice room where her mother and little sister waited for her. “Ah Senja, glad you could finally join us.” Her mother said in a withering voice. “Sorry Ma, busy cleaning up my room and gear, lost track of time.” Senja said with a grin. It was true too... the room had gotten a little cluttered messy with her and Rastian both living in it… so she’d gone through and boxed a lot of her older stuff and clothes she was never going to use again. “ I put a few boxes outside the storage door, things I won’t be needing.” “Oh… any chance I can look through it?” Chantuer perked up, she wasn’t Senja’s size… but clothes could always be resewn to fit! “Sure, I won’t be needing them… and yes that green and gold dress you really liked is among the stuff I’m not keeping.” Senja rolled her eyes in amusement. “I put that and a few pieces I know you liked in a bag on my bed so you could get first dibs on them.” Her sister, much as she’d been irritating and spoiled, wasn’t so bad now that Senja was older. Maybe I’ve just matured and don’t care that she’s got a better voice than me and get’s pampered more now? “Yay! Thanks Sen!” Chantuer smiled happily as their mother shook her head in amusement before clearing her throat. “Since you are back home Senja and we’ve given you a week to get resettled…. We need to discuss how you will help the family…” “Oh I know, you don’t eat if you don’t work! I’d rather concentrate on music, dancing’s fun.. but …” Senja thought for a moment and remembered the fun of learning new instruments in Zena, the variety of sounds, the feeling of watching others dance to her music, enjoy her sounds…. It had been far more... fulfilling than dancing. “I’ve found that I like creating music, performing it, more than dancing. I like dancing still, always will, but its more fulfilling to learn and play music.”Muskier, her mother, raised and eyebrow at this. It was definitely a change from the girl who’d rather dance and play than practice music. “Oh? Your father will certainly be pleased to hear that…” “You said creating music?” Her sister piped up in her sweet musical voice. Senja blushed a little at that. ”Well… I… wrote some things on my travels... nothing really big but… you know… I liked that almost as much as playing.” Music to sound like how she felt… mostly about Rastian. No words, just sounds, trying to convey her feelings. Maybe I’ll play them for him one day… Muskier smirked; she knew the source of Senja’s inspiration. “Well… in that case you’ll work more with your father, he’s always wanted to have someone to help him compose…” “Yeah! Most of us would rather perform than compose! Write something for me Sen? Please?” She batted her eyes and gave Senja a coy yet innocent smile, to which Senja laughed. “We’ll see! I’ve just started thinking about this. So… might be a while sis!”“It was worth a try! So… what sort of songs did you hear out there? Dances? Music?” Chantuer laughed and tossed her head before getting down to what she really wanted. Muskier nodded as well; that was something that they’d held back on pestering Senja about… but something that all artists wanted to know: what did people do in other countries? “Oh I saw all sorts of new dances and instruments! I even got lessons on how to make a few of them, though mostly I learned how to play them… There was this huge festival up in Zena… so I saw all sorts of performances and learned a lot there!" Senja walked over to the sand table, what her family used when writing down songs and composing things. You could erase and rewrite easily… better than wasting precious paper! “Here, let me show you a few songs I memorized… I can play them on a few different instruments… I heard several that would sound nice when played on different instrument…” Her sister and mother stood next to her humming the notes she wrote down getting a feel for the song before Senja and Muskier grabbed instruments to play them. That afternoon they spent in music; Senja in the new position of teaching rather than learning for once.

S E N J A ' S . T A L E Solo razz regnant! Words: 1011 Senja and Rastian had settled into a routine; several months of living together had been very pleasant and an eye-opener for Senja. You had to definitely compromise! Not that she minded too much since you had to do that anyways when traveling in a troupe like she had. And now there was the added benefits of a partner! He normally went about doing healer stuff, helping out the local healers, helping the city get it’s supplies up and ready for the incoming army while she was at the theatre mostly, learning to compose from her father, learning more details about instruments and how to incorporate dance into the music or words. She would normally take a break about lunch to go find Rastina and pester him, take walks about the city, eat lunch together, or just enjoy being with him. Then in the afternoon she would help play music for dancers in performances or practicing her own dancing skills. Just because she wished to concentrate on music, did not mean she’d given up dancing! Plus it kept her in shape. Dinner they ate with the family, a loud and very active affair. After dinner they spent together outside enjoying the evening jungle; usually more walks, conversations about their days, Senja often times performing a new piece she’d seen or made. She was happy and content and able to forget the army that threatened Neued somewhat. It was in the second month of living together Senja got a shock. Morning sickness! She’d thought it was just a cold...but after the first week, Rastian had gotten very excited, especially after he’d asked her some questions about her health. Healer that he was, he recognized the signs and was ecstatic about it. Senja was... in two minds about it. Pregnant…. Already? Was her first thought; it can happen this fast? Rastian was over the moon, very attentive to her every need but not overly crowding her with attention. That was nice! But…she was still nervous. Was she ready to be a mother? She’d known Rastian for like… only a year! All those tales and stories about things going wrong after marriage or kids crowded her mind. Rasitan, she kept telling herself, was not like that! He was kind, and there for her, and dependable! It would work out… right? Senja looked at her stomach: she wasn’t showing… not yet at least! At least I’m getting pampered over this, she thought wryly. It was hard to hide his reaction and she didn’t think she should hide the fact that she was pregnant, which meant she’d have to tell her family about it. Her father was still grumbling over Rastian. Having him get her pregnant so soon? His reaction upon her knews did not bode well. He’d been very angry; the cold slent type of anger she hated, absolutely hated seeing. But luckily for her peace of mind he’d only been angry for a short time. When he saw Rastian’s reaction he calmed down, it looked like Rastian wasn’t some scoundrel taking advantage of his daughter, not if he was pampering her so much and seemed to be someone who was going to stick around. Her mother was ecstatic: her first grandchild! A larger room, one with an adjoining smaller room for a nursery, was given to Rastian and Senja. Senja was given a slightly lighter load of work, which meant more time to write music or play it as well as time to prepare the nursery. Over the next few months Senja’s waistline began to vanish and her chest size also increased. Senja found she kept running out of air when trying to play her pipes…. She had to set them aside much to her displeasure. With a healer for a lover she didn’t lack for medical attention, and any pains she had were usually taken care of; something she really appreciated when the soreness and back pain started. With the lighter workload, Senja had plenty of time to consider the future, consider the changes. A kid… was she ready to be a mother? She was barely 20! But.. she did have her family’s help and Rastian was here. She smiled: at that thought; I’m a lucky girl, to have found a good man like him and have him love me back! I wonder if we should get our own house… It’s nice living with the family.. but… Some alone time, or mostly alone time since a kid’s on the way, would be nice. I wonder what Rastian would say to our own place? I’m sure my parents wouldn’t mind… though mother might be upset! But if I take the line of: ‘I don’t want a child’s crying at night to keep the other’s up,’ than maybe Father will support me. Shifting slightly to a more comfortable position in her pile of cushions, she looked at the set of pipes she was making; bigger and more elegant than the simple set she’d carried all over Tendaji. I wonder if it’ll be a boy or a girl? Either’s fine! Will he or she want to be a performer? A healer? Or walk a different path than Rastian and I? What will it look like? How will it grow up? Can I be a good parent? How do you take care of a kid? She paused, she had helped with her little sister... but that was after Chantuer had grown up a bit. I should go ask mother for tips, I do want to raise him or her and not have another do that. She’d seen some surrogate parents who’d given the child over to new parents and then left… and Senja had disliked the idea intensely: you gave birth to it, you ought to take care of it! I’ll be a good mother, she thought as she laid a hand on her stomach, raise them with lots of love and hugs… and some lectures cause I don’t think Rastian will be a tough love guy! He’s much more a cuddler, she smirked, very much a cuddler!
