Magic was an elusive thing, it was something that he desired to wield but it seemed the more he worked at it the further he was to obtaining his goal. Sitting day after day his eyes scanning through the pages of the books his uncle had given to him the young man was beginning to get frustrated. Takoda was a respected healer and though he didn't have any desire to follow in his uncles foot steps he knew he would have to start somewhere. he had tried to ask his for his uncle for instruction, but despite Takoda's patience and willingness to work through the motions Chandra found himself getting too irritated to get through the lessons. So he had gone back to working by himself, he liked being alone.
Looking up from his book he sighed, raising a hand into the air he tried to summon lightning, using the theory he had read on and discovering that he couldn't even manage to get a spark this go around. His theory was sound, so why wasn't he able to use it? Chewing on the inside of his cheek he had his sprite Awen laying on the top of his head, a common place for her to be found. He had learned to not turn his head quickly else there was the risk of her falling off. Right now though he was so irritated he slammed his book down and threw it from the branch he was sitting from.
A moment of fuming before instantly regretting his action and getting up quickly sending his poor sprite falling off his head. Awen chirped in surprise and frustration as she tumbled but was able to catch herself with a quick zip of her wings. Zipping over to Chandra's face she tittered and scolded Chandra pulling on his hair when he ignored her for a moment.
"Ah...sorry Awen..." He managed in a distracted tone as his eyes frantically searched for the book that was somewhere on the forest floor. He knew how dangerous it could be in Jahaur, he didn't want to suddenly be attacked just because he was trying to pick up a book. Though his sprite wasn't happy with his half hearted apology she settled to just fluttering around his head somewhat happy with herself to be annoying in her own little way.
A moments panic as the book couldn't be located and then he spotted it, caught on a branch he wondered if any of the pages were ripped. Why did he throw it? Why did he get so angry with something he loved? As the shifter mixed boy moved slowly from the branch he was on he pondered this. Why did he get so angry with things he loved? Chandra acted similarly to his brother, he loved his brother and yet he was always so angry with him. Why was that?
Chewing on his lower lip he found himself in a bit of a conundrum as the branch his book was on was, too far to reach from the forest floor as well the branch he was on. Great. Chandra could be patient when he wanted to, though he found that he couldn't stay patient for long. As his mind tried to sift through the possibilities of how he was going to retrieve his book with minimal damage to the pages he also wished he could just break the branch it was on and be done with it.
Growling deep in his throat it sent Awen fluttering back several feet in surprise. Approaching him in an slow manner it was as if he could go into a rage at any moment, but instead Chandra was looking around trying to find something to help dislodge the book from where it sat. He would just have to try and tip it off and risk it falling to the ground. As he gathered his body to start his search for a branch it was Awen who took it upon herself to flutter down and try and move the book on her own. Unfortunately all she could manage was shifting it slightly. The pages threatened to rip when she yanked on them but the cover was too heavy for her to lift.
Though she attracted the attention of a kifna who flew down in an attempt to capture the little sprite. Giving a sputtering sound of anger and fear she flew out of the side, although she was doing her best to protect Chandra's book. The young man of course was up several branches to see if he could find a branch his fingers had just brushed against a good looking one when he heard the commotion below him. Eyes wide the branch was abandoned, he hurried back down almost throwing himself down at the branch that held his book.
The branch that had been too far to safely get to was suddenly there, without a second though he swung his arm out to smack it into the kifna who squawked in surprise at the sudden appearance of Chandra. But he was unarmed and unbalanced and though his foot had landed on the branch he was not going to be able to stay there for long as he already felt gravity trying to take him to the forest floor.
Angry he took another angry swipe at the bird, only to feel the crackle of energy at the tips of his fingers. It was so quick he almost didn't think it had happened but a small bolt of lightning had arched its way from his fingers towards the kifna causing the bird to back off after the small shock at its wing. Then suddenly he was falling, Awen was desperately trying to stop his dissent pulling at his hair but only ending up being dragged to the forest floor with him.
Everything went black as the pain spread across his back. There was a audible thump beside him he could only assume it was his book joining him. It took several moments to finally be able to breath, another couple seconds to have the world come back into view. Staring up he couldn't help but smile. So anger...it was anger that allowed him to wield magic. Alright then he had plenty of that, giving a laugh he covered his eyes with his arm and felt the tiny fingers of Awen on his face.
Removing his arm he blinked to see her worried expression, although quite an alien looking creature she was one of his closest companions.
"I am glad you are okay Awen, did you see what I did?" Chandra managed as he went to stroke her head, the small sprite just hugged his finger looking quite relieved to see that Chandra was okay.

Reserved for solo - Leave my brother alone
He was trying to make heads and tales of this strange world, how the war was now over and things were suppose to go back to normal right? How fitting that his life was never 'normal'. Though his twin brother Aysun was completely opposite of him he did love his brother, and it was hard to ignore the whisperings and snickering when it came from others of the same age.
Chandra didn't care what people thought of himself, of his desire to be left alone so that he could read in peace. He didn't like people so he was just fine being alone. The one exception being his brother and perhaps that large blossomed woman who found Korra. Eira was it? He tried to commit the name to memory because he didn't want to forget about her.
Chandra despite how he looked was a fighter, a lean looking bean pole of a fighter. He didn't like people, he wouldn't tolerate anyone picking on his brother, even if Aysun thought it was HIM who needed protection. Sitting high in a tree as was the norm he over heard them.
"I think we should steal them...after all it isn't like he won't get more."
A pattering of laughter that was trying to be kept subdued. With a book in hand Chandra slowly closed it and tilted his head towards the voices.
"Yeah I mean some of those things he has could sell well..why does he want such a horde of animals anyway?"
"...he is just weird that is why...I mean his brother is just as odd with his reading habit but Aysun is just a freak. What does he think he is? A Beast tamer? Isn't he getting ahead of himself?"
Ah...Chandra nodded his head slowly, anger was slowly rising in his chest. Perhaps he got his temper from his mother, but hearing them speak about his brother in such a manner caused him to want to go and pummel those who's voices belonged to them. Getting up Awen fluttered around his shoulder looking worried as she could pretty much see the anger in his face. Nimbly he slipped down from the tree tops, he wasn't trying to be quiet, but some how his appearance in front of the trio of males caused them to jump.
"See?" Came an uneasy laugh from the tallest of shifters, "The reader is here. I bet Aysun isn't far behind...he always trails after like a beaten radaku pup." Came the snicker, that was answered by the other two who were much more muscular than he.
"Leave my brother alone. I don't care what you say about me, your beneath me. Like bugs." Chandra stated with a sneer, "But you will leave my brothers animals alone. " Though Chandra didn't particularly enjoy the zoo like gathering of creatures that Aysun had procured he wasn't about to let other people do anything to them.
"Why not? I hear you don't like them, so why don't we just get them off your hands...make your life easier?" The ring leader stated dismissing the comment about being compared to bugs although it did cause the other two to bristle.
"I may not like them, but my brother loves them. I will stop you from doing them any harm. " Chandra replied, the book in his hand he moved over to lay it upon a rock slowly and carefully. All three of the males laughed at Chandra's claim about stopping them. This pipsqueak? Chandra wasn't muscular, he wasn't a brawler he was a scholar.
"What do you think you are going to do?" Came the voice of the leader, only to seem surprised as Chandra came at him. His hand clenched in a fist as he went to punch the leader in the jaw. It hurt, a lot. But for the most part it mostly hurt Chandra.
There was some laughter as this one sided fight continued, soon all three shifters joined in. Awen gave a bit of a shriek of anger as she spotted her beloved human being attacked three against one. Zooming out of the trees where she had been resting she tried to help Chandra but found that it was too late. The poor hybrid was already bleeding from his nose, a split lip and numerous bruises were beginning to appear on his pale skin.
Chandra knew it would end up like this, he didn't have anything but his books. Why was he doing this? What was he trying to prove? Perhaps he just wanted to protect his brother the only way he could right now. At some point he stumbled and fell to the ground, the pummeling continued for several seconds before the hoodlums pulled back.
"Come on lets get this over with." Came the leader who was rubbing his jaw, the only strike that Chandra landed. They stepped over his body to start back to where Aysun kept all his creatures and Chandra found himself dragging his body back up and off the ground.
"I..." A cough interrupted him as he tried to speak, everything hurt as he managed to pull himself off the ground and stand back up. "am not done..." Chandra managed dragging the back of his hand across his mouth smearing the blood across his face. The trio turned to see him, that look on his face and their leader look exasperated.
"Seriously?" He questioned Chandra who didn't reply but took an unsteady step towards him. "Come on...lets leave..I don't want to get tangled up with this guys father or mother..." The leader came up with the excuse to leave without having to literally beat Chandra to the forest floor again. Alright so Chandra was certainly not a fighter and his entire body ached. He would need to see uncle Takoda about his wounds before he saw his brother...

World Event: Winter Is Coming Prompt 1 Solo or RP Format Can be used toward Solo or RP req
The settlements of Tendaji all knew how to take care of themselves during the winter. Zena and Sauti received their usual snow fall, for Zena it was nearly year round and didn't faze them much at all; Tale and Jauhar seemed to retain most of their heat, dropping to milder temperatures; Matori and Oba seemed to flux between mild during the day and a sharp chill in the evenings. But usually it was all under control.
Word had passed through the elders and oracles and mystics that this winter was going to be a hard winter. The air would be sharp with cold and snow would fall in all areas of the world, something that had never happened before in Jauhar.
It came as a shock when the temperatures began to drop rapidly through the night. Most had thought that it was just a joke. There couldn't possibly be enough cold air to send snow to Jauhar. It was absurd. But it happened, and most of Tendaji wasn't prepared.
In the morning everything was frosted over, those in Zena and most of Sauti were barely able to open their doors the snow had risen so high overnight, and those in warmer climates could see the sheet of frost on the ground and the plants around them.
If the winter was going to be a long one, they would have to salvage what they could and come up with a plan...
***
Snow. What a foreign concept that white stuff. It certainly wasn't something Chandra expected to see when he woke up that morning. Feeling rather under dressed as he awoke shivering he was surprised to see his breath coming out from his mouth . What the? Rather than throwing the light cover off of his body he found himself wrapping it around himself in an attempt to warm himself. He felt rather exposed as he walked rather quickly to the window, staring in disbelief at the white ground below. There wasn't a lot of it, and he could already spot several animal foot prints of creatures who were probably just as shocked as he was at the snow.
Moving around he went to grab a cloak and any other layers of clothing he could find. Where was his brother? Chewing on the inside of his cheek he was sure that his brother must already be up and exploring this 'snow'. Awen was nestled in his hair and was having a hard time waking up despite the movement of the boy. Reaching up Chandra was surprised to find Awen still sleeping happily in his hair. Shrugging he put up a hood to help keep her warm before he slipped on some shoes that were severely inadequate for snow. But it was better than just his bare feet right?
Stepping out it was almost breath taking to see the expanse of white before him. It was just beginning to be day light, and he could almost imagine his mothers cursing as well Uncle Jacinthus's. He had heard stories about snow in Zena when the two have traveled when they were younger. Recalling vividly as they both cursed the cold. Shivering again there was some elating seeing the white powder on the ground. The crispness in the air was invigorating and he went about climbing down from the house to the ground.
The crunch of the snow under his feet was another surprise. Leaning over he touched the cold substance with his fingers and was shocked to see the snow flakes stick to his skin a moment before melting. Shaking his hand he stood back up to then be startled as a poscutta kit came running out dancing about in the snow, before another one joined it rolling around in the white stuff while its parent looked unhappy about this white development.
Some part of him felt like those kits, wanting to just run around and play it it though a large majority of this snow was going to be a mess he was sure. Watching the trio move past he went to explore a bit, tilting his head as he heard a sharp curse word in the distance and knowing that it must of been from his mother. Giving a chuckle he could began to identify the foot prints he found in the snow. Lots of creatures had been out this early morning, probably confused by the snow and not sure how to react, there were a lot of criss crossing paths and a set of tracks he was sure belonged to his brother.
He was probably worried about his animals, since they were not use to this sort of weather and cold. Shivering again he felt himself cough a bit before turning to follow a set of tracks that belonged to an animal he wasn't familiar with. It was interesting to see how easy it was to track an animal with its foot prints being rather obvious, and yet he never spotted this said creature. Stopping short as he heard a snort and shake of a head his eyes widened to see a herd of Aldabuck huddled together for warmth. His uncle would of been singing the praises of gods if he had come across this wealth of furs and meat.
Several heads turned to look at him before they almost groaned before moving onwards. They were nervous with his presence even if he didn't have a weapon. Watching them as they miserably made they way from him the ground revealed that not all had made it through the sudden drop in temperature. A baby lay on the ground frozen, a light dusting of snow on its body revealing it had died at some point this early morning. Chandra felt a pang of sadness though it wasn't for long. His sensible side knew that some predator would probably eat this carcass happily with this sudden change in climate.
Still...seeing it lay there like a perfect statue he couldn't lie and say it didn't make him somewhat sad. Rubbing his arms he felt that perhaps he should head back...get to a fire and try and warm up. He was sure the rest of his family was up by now...he wondered what they must be thinking...

World Event: Tis the SeasonPrompt 2 Solo or Rp format Can be used toward Solo or RP reqThe air was ripe with cheer in all of Tendaji. The Oban's King had been defeated and a new and compassionate one put in his place, the slaves were released, and it was time for the Winter Solstice. Friendly faces abounded as the havoc of the war was nearly wiped away and the villages restored.
It would seem as if everyone was enjoying the season, and it was very clear to see why. Almost every land in Tendaji were hosting their own winter celebrations, partying and feasting until the early hours of the morning before settling in to sleep for the night. It wasn't a time for work anymore, but a momentary reprieve for play.
*** Despite the snow and the chilly weather, the normally grumpy young man was finding himself distracted. Rather than being absorbed with reading he found that he just couldn't concentrate on the words written there. A particular person was taking up much of his thoughts lately, the vivacious ice tribe woman named Eira. To say that she was eating up a lot of his thoughts would be considered an understatement. But he got the impression that...she considered him too young for her. A hand went up to his chin feeling the smoothness and he wondered if he was able to grow some facial hair if she would take him more seriously. Eira was a beautiful woman, and he was sure that with looks like hers she must get quite a bit of attention from other men. The thought made his blissful smile sour into a frown. Right...because she was so pretty she would get a lot of men fawning over her. His leg dangling over a branch, book laying untouched in his lap he started getting irritated the more he thought about other men flirting with her. Taking a deep breath of the crisp air he shook his head and then tried to figure out what to do about it. There was a holiday coming up, a time to celebrate with family and loved ones... it was customary to give small gifts at this time of year, but...what could he make for Eira? The idea of making her something rooted itself firmly into his head, but he wasn't a very creative individual. What could one possible make for a woman like Eira? She was so pretty and all he wanted to do was find something equally as pretty or ..as pretty as he could find to help make her more beautiful. Perhaps a necklace? Or bracelet? Hair ornament? She was a shapely woman...... Face blushing again he cleared his throat deciding that a bracelet was probably the best idea. He recalled that she had an hair ornament already as well a necklace. So the best option was a bracelet right? Energized at the idea of making something for Eira he picked himself up off the branch he was on and then proceeded to pack his book away in his satchel. Awen fluttered off his head with a yawn wondering why Chandra was moving all of a sudden. The young man then slipped down out of the tree and figured that he could try and find some interesting things to put together for the bracelet. He knew of shiny stones one could find in the forest, but what else could he find? "Come on Awen you need to help me find some thing to make into a gift." Chandra mentioned to the sprite who was fluttering about his head chirping at him in a questioning manner. The poor sprite wasn't entirely sure what kinda of gift he was trying to make, or for whom. Perhaps it was for her? Excited and perhaps getting a bit carried away by the idea the little sprite was doing her absolute best to help Chandra out. He found a few shiny stones but Awen was quick to replace them with much smoother and shinier rocks that reflected the light just right. It was soon easy to tell that the poor sprite thought that this gift was suppose to be for her, even if she had no idea what they were making and was just gathering things she found appealing. The snow was making things a bit more difficult but even Chandra was impressed with how quickly she was gathering things. Just..little things, pretty stones, somehow she found a few shells (perhaps from the nest of a kifna?) and then she was finding twine and a vast amount of other things. A smile spread across Chandra's face and he actually had to stop Awen from getting more things together. "That's more than enough Awen, you are always so helpful to me...come we shall go home and pet something together with the stuff you gathered for me. " The young man stated in a soft voice, although he was normally gruff Awen always tended to bring the softer side of him out, as well Eira... Once back home Chandra looked at all the items gathered together and choose the best out of the group, although some items were switched out when he wasn't looking by Awen. Once all together he knew that he would need help with a jeweler to get holes into the stones as well getting some leather to put through it. Giving the small sprite quite a bit of praise he intended to get the bracelet put together as soon as he could. Unbeknownst to the poor sprite whom the gift was intended for she was eager to help him keep the items safe. Chandra day dreamed Eira's reaction to the gift hoping of course for a favorable out come. Solo - Where that girl go?
The stars glimmered in the night sky, acknowledged by many except for a young man who sat high in the branches of his favorite tree. There was a book in his hand, open with one hand with a finger gently resting against the page moving quickly along each line as his eyes read over the words quickly in the dim light. It was a familiar read, actually it wasn't the first time he had read this one. So the fact he had only the lighting filtering through a canopy wasn't a bother.
In fact the silver hair youth nearly had the entire thing memorized so why he was bothering to go through the motions of flipping pages was strange. As he turned a page a sigh escaped his lips. Chandra continued to read oblivious to his surroundings whilst his sprite Awen sat atop his head gazing up at the night sky. She never understood his obsession with the strange things he often had his head buried in but perhaps it was a human trait. No wait...cause other humans didn't just bury their head in books like hers did.
Observing the nearly full moon, she only turned her head when a growl came from Chandra's mouth. He had flipped the page again but weither it had offended him she wasn't entirely sure as Chandra finally snapped the book closed and drew up one leg so he could drape an arm across the knee. Normally his sprite would be concerned with his unusual behavior but this had become a common day occurrence. She mimicked his sigh and crossed her two sets of arms on his head. More out of frustration of her moody human.
The young man found that lately he just...couldn't focus. For what seemed like years he found his thoughts consumed with worries. Thoughts that would waffle between his brother and his ridiculous circus of animals, to his cousin Korra who had been missing for awhile. Sadly and perhaps a bit selfishly most of what occupied his thoughts was a particular dancer. Though he had been rejected by Eira, he at the time in a moment of passion had promised himself that he would always love her. A lot of time had passed since he had last seen her, and he found his feelings for her wavering. But what was it that he loved about her? Beyond her rather large assets? What did he truly know about her?
Chandra had meant to go visit Eira and her troupe more often, but life had a funny way of getting away from him. It wasn't like he was THAT busy either, but somehow he found the days slipping away until enough time had passed it felt weird to go see her again. Extremely weird. In fact until he could sort out what feelings he had for her he wasn't sure it was a good idea to go back and see her at all. Perhaps that was what was keeping him away. That and procrastination. Now that he was sitting here under the moonlit sky he didn't have any reasons to not think about her.
So what was it that he liked about Eira? He didn't know really anything about her, beyond that she was an older woman and was visually appealing. Was that all he liked? Her large breasts? Upon that realization it made him frown, that...was pretty shallow of him wasn't it? There was her laugh, although now he was older he realized that she had been just being polite and sweet to a young boy who had a crush on her.
Annoyed with himself he rubbed his face and went to put his fingers through his hair causing poor Awen to get disturbed in which she nipped at his finger and then came to chitter at him in her annoyance. Distractedly he waved her off as if trying to deflect her angry voice. He loved Awen he truely did as a companion but lately he was too aloof. His hand when to his little bit of hair on his chin, tugging at it, wondering if he should shave it off. He had only grown it to appear older to Eira. Now that he wasn't pursuing her, did he really need to keep it? He recalled his his brother had made fun of him when he had started growing the soul patch. Perhaps it had been silly, or rather naive of him to think a little tuft of hair would actually impress Eira.
While he had been obsessing over Eira he had moped and met Syvqvara. She had been shy and rather timid. She didn't like to fight and though he didn't understand why he found her rather charming. Strangely she reminded him of his uncle Takoda. A magic user who was timid and unwilling to hurt others. Strange though that she didn't want to become a healer...what was it she wanted to do? Right become a shaman. How was it that he knew so much about her and yet hadn't even considered her to be a romantic interest? Even Awen had warmed up to her so what else could he ask for?
Well for one he hadn't seen her in a long time, she may of found someone else less cranky than he to be with. How would he find her anyway? Maybe he could ask around for her. That was a good idea...standing up he stretched, placing his book into his satchel so that it would survive the journey back home. Once home he would see about looking for the red head girl. Well maybe if he was able to avoid his mother and brother. Both always wanted to mess with him and his life. So avoiding those two would be the first challenge.
