“Kehehe . . .” Ah, the voodoo child has a terrible thought in mind for the day. Eku was being a naughty boy as he decided to skip out of his lessons from the sanctuary and decided to go about in the city to perfect his craft among with the people. In his mind, he’s not missing anything special at all with his magic talent. He stayed within the shadows of the narrow alley to hide as his dark hollowed eyes scanned about to find his first victim. “Hmm, gotta be a stupid one . . . but whose de stupidest ov de stupid?” Eku muttered to himself as he’s profiling people who are busy shopping. The shoppers are the best victims just because they are distracted to even notice when they had a dark thread slipping around. However, as he was doing that, a little girl (who was no older than four) grew too curious about the dark narrow alley which irked the boy only in fear that he will be caught. She tottered away from her parent who was speaking to a merchant to quench her curiosity. Seeing the situation, Eku couldn’t help but to go along with it as he moved deeper in the alley; chuckling to draw the girl deeper just until there was a small glimmer of light within the darkness. “H-hello?” She spoke to what was hiding in the veil of shadows. But in a matter of seconds, black threads snaked along the ground towards her and she whimpered in fear; wanting to scream out but was afraid it will only cause the ‘snakes’ to attack her. All they did was swerved around the child to block her exit as he finally appeared from the safety of the shadows. The stitches at his joints were slacked loose and the stitched up grin had opened up to a wide smile, stalking up close to the frighten young Oblivionite child, breathing heavily as slips of a chuckle were heard while slowly tilting his head to one side. “. . . ‘ello . . . . . . . BOO!” And the young girl practically screamed her head off!

She ran down the alley straight to her mother with the sounds of total chaos as it sounded as though the girl ran into the merchandise and Eku is laughing in sheer amusement of everything while he fixed himself back up again. “Ja mon! Dat be a good one!” He said to himself as he walked away to the other side of the alley; trying to calm down his laughter which a chuckle or two had escaped. But then, once he stopped laughing, there was silence. The eerie silence pains through his ears gradually and surely by the passing second. It was like a knife is slowly piercing through his ears and it terrified him as a dark, cold sensation burns in his body. He wanted to rage. He wanted to scream. He wanted to tear the limbs off of somebody. Something! Anything! Just to create the loud chaos to drown out the furious silence! However, someone stopped him as there was an adult standing in front of him at the other end of the alley and hit the poor boy right on the head with a staff. “Ow!” Eku cried out as he rubbed his head in pain. “Skipping out once again Ekundayo? You are in dire need of extreme discipline in order to focus that mischievous mind of yours!” This man whose hollowed eyes burned of fire is Eku’s instructor (more like babysitter) and was searching for him all this time. Without giving the child another second to run away, he slipped his arm around the boy’s waist and picked him up. “Lemme go! Lemme go now!” But all the demands fell on deaf ears as he was carried away for an even stricter lesson for today.

“Gah!”

The breathless sound echoed in the air as Ekundayo flew in the air and crashed down on the floor; tumbling away. He panted heavily as he looked completely worn out. His body bruised and scarred. The stitches of his limbs are slowly coming undone. The voodoo boy placed a hand at his stomach to try to ease the pain where he must have been kicked and sent flying. Who is doing this to him? The shadow of the causer loomed over his body which brought a sense of chilling fright to him. “Ekundayo Okoro . . .” The voice boomed in the empty space of a training hall. The young boy slowly strained himself to get back up once again as he staggered in his stance to look up to the man who caused him such pain. It was his instructor, Cassius, who stood all powerful with a dark hand resting upon his staff and his soulless glare staring down at his stupid little pupil.

“Four failures . . . unacceptable!” Dark energies swirled around the jewel of the staff which formed into crescent shaped blades to Eku in a toying manner as he rolled out of the way for he knew his battle pattern. But he ended up being flat on his back for he’s completely out of breath. “C-Cas . . . no more . . . Eku be too tired mon . . .” If Cassius had eyes, he would rolled them at his student on how pathetic he has become. “Enough with the calling of your own damn name! Honestly, I have taught plenty young apprentices as an instructor, they have grown to become one of the finest, diabolical warriors that have ever roamed the world. And then there’s . . . you.” Those soulless sockets glared menacingly over to Eku as he slowly got up once again. Strings are slowly popping off at the strain he puts his body through. The stitched up grin that usually appears on his face has been long gone as he only grits his teeth in anger. “Eh? What about Eku?” He snapped at the man; his voice hoarse with rage. It amused the instructor tremendously just seeing how worked up he become as his lips curled into a smirked and walked up to his young pupil.

“You are . . . pathetic.”

It was like a knife had slowly stabbed through his chest to hear those three words and so effortlessly. His words were taken away as well which left Cassius to continue. “You showed such promise, but then perhaps it was all for naught with your mother’s death in giving birth to you. Either that or she must have been a weak woman.” His mother . . . the talk about his mother made him hear a woman’s horrid scream of sheer pain ringing in his ears. He’s been wondering what this sound was that has haunted him in the silence as he believed that it might be her; the pain during child birth. Was it possibly a curse that she gave in complete rage that her child is killing her? It could be. But still, if she really does hate him it doesn’t bother him for Eku still loves her for the woman gave him a chance in life. And to hear someone bad mouthing her, even a person who is friends of his family, left a bad taste in his mouth; it was bitter and foul . . . so rancid that it sends his body into a complete frenzy.

He growled darkly as he pulls on his threads to keep his limbs in place and tied them up. Suddenly, he lunged right against Cassius with a fist formed but it was a foolish jab that the mage has seen. The older Oblivionite blocked it with his staff and continued to block as his pupil continued to push forward. Eku didn’t say anything to him or anything at all. There wasn’t a single thought in mind through the cloud of rage that he was pushing through. His knuckles were scratched up and damaged from punching the staff instead which angered him further. “Oh? This is another side of you I haven’t seen . . .” The mage spoke, chuckling darkly at his stupid pupil as he was starting to put some effort into their combat into blocking the random punches. But his hollowed eyes widen in seeing the surprised attack of the detached wrist, hanging on by the threads, and reaching up to make contact right to Cassius’ cheek. He staggered back not by the power of the punch but by the sheer surprise of it.

And the strangest thing happened as it freaked Eku tremendously; Cassius laughed. It was the strangest thing ever to see from him that it had snapped him out of his anger. But he didn’t like the laughter at all for he feels as though his teacher is laughing at his pitiful attempt of fighting against him. He knows hand to hand combat is not his strongest ever but it’s not a good damn excuse to laugh at him. Eku grits his teeth in anger as it ripped the stitches off from his mouth. “Shut up! Donche laugh at me!” A fist was aimed right at Cassius once again but the mage caught it this time and twist his arm about. The sounds of ripped thread echoed in the air as it made Eku’s hollowed eyes widen. The stitches popped open and the arm was removed from his very socket and he was pushed down to the floor. He gasped for air. Everything hurts so much that it made him feel numb of everything around him as his mind is sent into a daze. “That’s it Ekundayo. Don’t forget that anger in your body. Harness that energy of yours to do something extraordinary in your life and grow up. You cannot be wasting your time playing games with practical jokes and foolery.” His words were brief with the young boy as he then left him on the floor to ponder about them in hopes that he will realize what he must do.

Broken like a doll, Eku stayed on the floor as he stared at the ceiling. He rests there for a moment before soon the young apprentice had finally sat up; wincing in sheer pain that radiates throughout. The arm that was ripped off lay lifeless to one side and he reached out to grab it. It was shoved back in to his socket as he yelped out in pain but the pain won’t end there as he reached in his skirt’s pocket to find his small sewing kit of a needle and the magic thread that gave his limbs life which Cassius created for him. The needle was stabbed through the appendage and stitched through to connect with his torso. Sitting in silence, through the stifles of his crying pain, made him realize that he truly is alone. He doesn’t have the warmth of a mother to comfort him through his tough times or the words of wisdom from his father to support. He was alone. He was always alone in this one life he has. Eku tries to hide that fact with his laughter, smile, and tricks but it could never calm him down. Especially in the silence where it haunts him further. All of these facts swirling in his mind made him want to cry but Eku didn’t as they were kept in. But he knew he couldn’t be such a child anymore.

The arm was stitched back up again and he bit the thread to break it from the roll and placed his belongings away in his pocket again. He staggered back up from the floor as he looked down to see that he’s covered in scars. It had actually made Eku laugh because he was a total mess. But he merely shrugged it off and walked off. The smile that was on his face was not his usual, cheerful grin. It was darker, almost frightening to stare at. What does he have in mind of doing now with his life? Eku doesn’t know really but that is just the most exciting part.

It has been a while for Eku from the last time he has seen his instructor. He’s been away along with Vilzun having such desire now to become stronger but also taking care of his injuries that he received. During the time though, Cassius has been away for a while. It was odd for he never really leaves. The reasons for it he has no idea but now Eku had received a summoned by him and to go and see him at his home. It did made the voodoo boy nervous of what is could be but it can’t be anything so bad, right? Both him and Vilzun stood in front of the door and knocked against. “Oi, Cas. It be Eku and Vilzun.” He called out to his instructor and waits. There were sounds of footsteps from the other side of the door and the door was open to see the mage himself standing before him as he looks up. “Ah, you’re finally here. Come in.” He said in a monotone voice and welcomed his two guests.

The first thing that Cassius did was giving Vilzun something to eat for lunch as well to keep him preoccupied while he has a chat with his young pupil. He instantly noticed a change in the boy which was surprising to see. Eku was calm and wasn’t bouncing around the place or giving him hell. Instead, Eku was sitting down on one of the chairs of the living room and looking outside from the windows in the room. “So, how are you Eku since our last meeting?” The mage said as he moved to sit down in a comfortable looking chair across the room. “Eh, fine, ‘cept I be in de bed too long. Vilzun bee’ taking de time to try and eat me. But I got all me fingers and toes.” It was a hellish recovery for he felt watched the entire time by seeing those big round eyes staring at him from the other room and Eku glaring back at him; making Vilzun going back to eating. But he was fine in the end and now sporting a few scars on his body. A study look was seen on Cassius’ face as he noticed how he speaks. Perhaps smacking him around was the best thing to do.

“Cas, where you bee’ all dis time? It’s not like you at te leave like dat.” He asked him up front with an annoyed look on his face at the man as he crossed his legs. Cassius smirked at his action and stood up from his chair and exits to the other room as he seemed to be looking for something. “Tell me Ekundayo, just how much do you wish to be strong now?” His voice carried out to the room where the voodoo boy is. His hollowed eyes blinked for a moment before a smirk of a smile was seen on his face. “I do anytin’ to be strong Cas. Even if som fool be in my way . . . well . . . I take me time te have a little of fun te see dem scream.” A dark chuckle was heard from him as Eku had a thought of what he would do to them seeing the daze look on his face. It must be a terrifying thought but that made the mage smile for that is what he wanted to hear. Hopefully he would do his task instead of playing around with his victim but then again it wouldn’t be him.

“Well good, it’s what I wanted to hear from you.” And Cassius returned to the living room with a box at hand which was handed to him. “It has taken me quite some time, and some money, to find these items for you.” Eku took the box and placed it on his lap and opened the box. Inside was a bottle of some red liquid and an Ysali orb. He couldn’t believe what he’s seeing! Just how he find these items? It made him want to question the man but his lips were stitched shut as the mage continued to speak. “But if you are serious then come back here tomorrow morning after you ingest the potion. It will be the most important day of your life.” Everything now had made him so curious of what Cassius had in mind as he closed the box carefully; not wanting to damage the contents inside. “Now leave, you’re in the way of my schedule for the day.” If Eku has eyes, they would be rolling now as he stood up with the box at hand. “Fine, fine, be seein’ ya t’morrow den. Vilzun! We be leavin’ now.” He called out for the drakein who looked so happy and full now as he hurried up behind the voodoo child and leaves to go home. Whatever that’s happening tomorrow he is going to need some sleep.

The night before at the privates of his home, Eku drank the potion that he was given to him by his instructor and felt the surge of power flowing through him. He has to be strong for whatever reason the mage has in mind for him. That morning he was about to say goodbye to his father but he seemed to be missing. It didn’t surprise him at all really for the man looks completely lost. And so the young voodoo boy didn’t bother about looking for him. If anything, he might be over at his mother’s grave once again. Sometimes he does wonder what is going to happen to the old man one day with his depression. But then again, he doesn’t want to know or be there when it does happen.

In the morning, Eku and Vilzun walked upon the dark city to see his instructor again. It was fairly too early for him seeing how he yawned as loudly as he could with his stitches allow him to. Vilzun looked groggy as well as he stumbles a bit in his walk. But he saw the fluttering orange skirt before him once again and it looked rather tasty just like on that dragon hunt before. The drakein licked his lips and hasten his pace to reach up and bite his skirt. Luckily, Eku had the quick reflexes and grabbed on to his skirt before he exposed himself again. “Vilzun! Quit bitin’ me skirt now. Do ya want te expose me in fron’ of de people ‘ere?” He scolded Vilzun as he finally pulled his skirt free from the drakein’s mouth. It did make him whimper a bit because he was hungry and sleepy but Eku gave him a gentle petting on his head to cheer him up as best as he could. “Don’ ye worry Vilzun. Afta dis we be goin’ te get somthin’ yummy te eat.” A smile was seen on his face which made Vilzun happy in return; seeing how he flutters his small wings just before they continue walking.

They arrived at Cassius’ home where they are welcomed inside immediately. When he walked into the living room, he stopped at the entrance to see the array of weapons about. It made his hollowed eyes wide open in surprise as he looked back to see Cassius. “What be dis about Cas?” He asked his instructor who finally entered the room behind him and walked pass his young pupil. “A little graduation I suppose. You are no longer my pupil and are in charge of your studies to further improve yourself. I can’t be responsible of you forever. I only have one life after all.” It was a rather lovely little graduation speech from him. Eku only wished that it sounded a bit more . . . joyful. It sounded like he was an entire pain for his entire life. Well, that part was a bit true he supposed. But it made him smile to hear that he is going to basically be in charge of his own destiny.

All of the weapons were in display before him. They all look amazing to him but he had made up his mind of what path he wanted to follow. After all, it’s what he’s been training for most of his life until the teachings from his instructor. The wand was calling out for him more than the other weapons around as Eku reached out to grab it. He held it tightly in his hand and felt emitting from the weapon. It made his stitched mouth curved to more of a Cheshire cat grin as his own magic talent seeped through the wand and transformed to fit his style of magic to becoming more of a scepter for his dark, voodoo magic. Cassius has also smiled as he stood behind his once pupil; looking rather proud of the choice that he made. But he quickly pushed those silly emotions out of his system before speaking up to him. “Now that you made your choice, go to see Draco Verrano. I sent a notice that you will be seeing him to turn in the two Dragon orbs and so he is expecting an audience with you.” Oh goddess, did he just say that? Eku looked absolutely bewildered that he said that to him and did that all on his own that he almost dropped his brand new weapon. “Ya did what now? Ya want me te go and see de mon himself?” That had even made his stitches quiver but the quivering stopped when h felt the pat on his head by Cassius. “Then I suggest that you go now and get it over with. And please, for my reputation and your life, don’t call Draco ‘mon’.” Eku chuckled as he nods. That’s probably a good idea.

His belongings were gathered together and Vilzun happily waits for him by the door to go out and get the yummy food that was spoken about earlier. It was a weird feeling to him as he was about to leave the house. It almost felt as though he won’t be walking by here anymore or seeing the man who has practically raised him ever since infancy. But the young voodoo boy kept his turning emotions to himself as he opened the door and he looked back to see his instructor with a grin on his face. “I be seein’ ya mon.” And he stepped out into the city, closing the door behind him.

To think that he’s going to see Draco was so nerving to him that he couldn’t enjoy his meal properly after seeing Cassius. Eku wanted to kill Cassius for doing this to him but now he has no choice but to go to the Oblivion Sanctuary. He has been at the sanctuary plenty of times for his training and learning but it still doesn’t calm his nerves down as he walked inside of the building to look for Draco. Vilzun seemed to be the only one excited as he looked around at the dark building as he was so fascinated. To be a baby . . . Eku is really jealous of him. But he has to get over it as he has the two Ysali orbs in his possession to be given to him. Inside, he met with an attendant who will be his guide as he was taken deep inside of the sanctuary where he has never been to before. Eku nervously bit on the threads stitched on his lips to help calm him down is possible but then he came face to face with the door and the attendant left them alone.

Standing before the door, he quickly turned to face Vilzun as he kneeled down on the floor to see him closely. “Okay, ya betta behave yourself Vilzun. Dis be Draco Verrano, and Draco is one serious mon. So don’t bite me, me skirt, or bite anytin until I give de orbs to him. Ya Undastand?” Vilzun merely stared at him with a blank expression on his face for a second or two until he nods his head. That had made him worry but he hopes that he does behave. Vilzun ate a lot earlier so he should be fine. He stood up and straightened himself before he knocked on the door. “Enter . . .” The stern voice emits beyond the other side of the door. Eku took in a deep breath and opened the door to enter to the study of Draco Verrano in the vast room. He saw the man, busy at his work but he stopped to see the young apprentice hanging near the door. “Don’t just stand there, come in.” Eku jumped slightly and he nods as he walked in. But Vilzun has walked in at the same time and stepped on his skirt by accident. “Uwah!” And just like that, he tripped and fell on his face in front of the Leader of the Oblivionite race as he’s mentally praying to the Goddess that he will live after this.

Draco was entirely unamused by what has occurred. The stern, emotionless expression was visible as he wondered if this is some sort of comical joke playing on him. The gaze from his hollowed eyes glowered down that Eku can feel at the back of his head which made things incredibly worse for him. “If you don’t have any business with me, leave now. I do not have time for this buffoonery.” The ancient man certainly doesn’t for he’s restraining himself to redecorating his office with the voodoo boy all over. “Eh, sorry Master Verrano . . .” He apologized as he stood up; glaring back at Vilzun who is cowering behind him as he walked more into the room. “I be Ekundayo Okoro. Cassius send ya a notice about me.” Eku tried his best with his speech and not let his accent jumble his words so much in front of the man. He saw Draco giving a brisk nod of his head, taking in memory of the mage apprentice. “Ah yes, he said that you have something to give to me.” Draco now gave his full attention for he remembered in the notice that Eku will be turning in his dragon orbs from his hunts. They are precious to him after all.

He looked through the bag that he was carrying and grabbed the box which Cassius gave him the other day. The voodoo boy held the box and opened the lid, facing Draco, as the leader was presented with the Ysali orbs as they were nestled inside. “Here be the dragon orbs from me victories against dem.” It did impress him a little to see the care he put and to present them as Eku even bow his head down in presentation. “Place the box on my desk.” Draco demanded and Eku was quick to move and set the box gently down to not make a single sound and closed it up as well before returning back to his spot. “I expect more orbs the next time we meet, Ekundayo Okoro.” That’s all he said as he waved his hand at him; telling him to leave his office which Eku bow his head and turned on his heels to leave with Vilzun by his side.

“One minute . . .” His emotionless voice reached out to him; sending chills down his spine as it made him stop in his track just before the door. The voodoo boy turned around to see Draco; his hollowed eyes meeting the perpetual empty from the leader. “I’ve heard . . . that you laugh and smile.” A knot was formed in Eku’s throat in the middle of the silence. “I am curious though . . . what is it that makes you smiled as such?” Draco questioned on the subject that certainly did confused him. The people are rather a depressed bunch; soulless beings as their life is limited to the one they have now. Hearing such a question directed to him have, oddly, calmed him down but that is because it’s something that he knows. He grinned at the man, stretching his stitches that sewn across his mouth. “Dat be I like te have fun. Fighin’, magic, seein’ de look on dem faces in utta anguish makes me smile Masta Verrano as dey be practically dancin’ for me.” It was the truth to him, part of the truth, but the bigger part of why he smiles and to explain to the ancient Oblivionite seeing him nodding his head slowly. “I see . . .” Draco said as he then turned to the direction of the work before him as he suddenly lost his interest at the boy. “As you were then . . .” Eku was dismissed as he quickly left the room with Vilzun already zoomed out the moment he saw the door being opened and closed it shut; leaving the man alone to his work as he wrote his notes. But he stopped writing as the empty void in his eyes glanced up at the door for a mere second before looking back down at his paperwork. “Interesting . . .”
