___Meeting an Ancestor

Awaking to the screeching voice of a maid was the last thing that Nayal wanted. "Miss Nayal, Master Verrano wants to see you as soon as you can ready yourself." the Oblivionite woman said before leaving to do the rest of her assigned chores for the day.

"Ugh, he always needs to see me at the crack of dawn, and it's beginning to piss me off." the girl scowled, though she slowly made her way out of bed. She was a person to speak her mind, no matter if it got her into trouble or not.

The way Draco treated her wasn't much better than the way he would treat another Oblivionite. Obviously because she had his blood, it was a slight bonus, but most of the time his dark heart led her to believe that he only cared because she was the last of her kind.

When she finally got herself ready to go, she began the trek from her private abode (one that Draco provided to her), toward the Oblivion Sanctuary where she would meet with Draco, the leader of the Oblivionites. She was given many looks by the passing people, for most everyone knew of her and who she was. The Verrano line was always a well respected name in the community and everyone knew who they were. Nayal had learned to ignore the stares and s**t talking people would sometimes do behind her back about her family. One of the many reasons why her mother hated being known as a Verrano. Nayal, however, didn't mind the attention whatsoever.

Finally, she had arrived in the Sanctuary. "You're late." his deep voice sounded with an annoyed tone of sorts.

"What do you expect!? Waking me up at dawn is not the way to win my heart, Master Verrano." Nayal snapped back.

"Mmm...Follow me." he said, turning around walking from the corridor where he met her into a large training room.

With a sigh and roll of her eyes, the annoyed Oblivionite followed as she was told.

When she arrived in the room with her grandfather, he motioned to one of the old fashioned boxing bags on the other side of the room. She glared at him for a moment, but went over to one and began to beat it up with her jabs and kicks. She maneuvered around it and kicked and hit it from all sides. Draco watched as she displayed her speed.

"Enough! Now, dodge these." he said, creating miniature balls of shadow and tossing them quickly towards her.

Nayal moved closer to the middle of the floor and began to dodge them using her agile figure. It wasn't long before they stopped and the man clapped. "I think you may finally be ready for a dragon hunt alone." he began.

"It's about time! I've been training for months. Catch ya later!" she said waving a quick goodbye, but before she could reach the exit, Draco stopped her.

"Wait. Did I say that you could leave? No, I was simply expressing my thoughts." he said, motioning her to come back over to him.

"Your thoughts? You've had me cooped up here for long enough, grandfath-" she began, .

"Do NOT call me grandfather!" he yelled, beating his sword into the ground.

"I-I'm sorry!" she said, backing away a bit, rather nervous what was going to come next.

"You do not respect me whatsoever. Get out of here and come back in the morning for more training!" he said, lifting his sword and giving her a quick wave out the door.

Nayal quickly did as she was told. Leaving was much better than getting her head blown off by his sword. For some reason, sometimes, it seemed as though he was so much harder on her than anyone else. It was like all he wanted of her was her power, agility, and cunning. She had her own spunk, she would show him what she could do! Oh, would she ever! She was going to go on that dragon hunt whether he liked it or not! After all, what was a little Ysali dragon going to do to Draco Verrano's granddaughter?

___A Distant Friend

Finally arriving home, Nayal had two different experiences to write about. Her first, was the dragon that she defeated.

Journal Entry
I defeated a dragon, and was defeated by one. My first experience was with a Ysali here in Soudul. I was able to kill it quite easily actually, snapping a neck is simpler than it seems. You just need to get on top of the dragon to do it, which is why I failed at my second attempt.

___Living a Lie

Turning the page, she then began her second experience.

Journal Entry
The next dragon I fought was also a Ysali dragon. I wasn't expecting to find this one however, but when I did, it beat me up quite badly. I'm still a bit wounded from that battle. Next time though, I will be victorious. The dragons are the most despicable things on this earth, aside from the Order of course. I shall defeat a dragon and gain another orb. I just know that all this training will come in handy when I try to defeat the Order and reclaim this land in the name of Soudana.

___Returning Home

After returning home from her adventures with the dragons, all Nayal could do is think. She wondered where she wanted to go in life, what paths she wanted to take. She was controlled by no one, even though she realized most of Obsidian City saw her as just Draco's little plaything. Most knew of her status within the city, and at first it was a great thing. But within the more recent years, she has begun to hate the fact, loathe her grandfather and wanted to just be on her own. It wasn't a hard request, right? He could just let her live her life, right? Wrong. She had to do everything he asked of her, and of course, she had to oblige, especially now that her parents were dead, she had no one else to turn to. Many wheels began to turn and thoughts crept up into her mind. What would she become if she continued down this current path her grandfather laid out for her? Did she truly want that?

Time passed as she sat within her grand bedroom. She began to think of her parents and the lives they had. Then those lives transpired thoughts of their weapons, making her realize that she truly needed to begin thought on her own weapon, which she would take.

Her father was an archer. He helped the town bring back the skins of many animals which, when given to the tailors, would be crafted into some beautiful clothing for the town to wear. He was the bread winner of the household before he died, yet he was constantly out on adventures or away from her and her mother, until they day they died in that tragic dragon hunt. Though being an archer truly appealed to Nayal for some strange reason.

Her mother on the other hand was a mage. She worked on the dark arts day in and day out, only trying to better her skills and actually using what she could to teach and help out the city while her husband was away on dragon hunts. She was also one of the city's alchemists, able to make any potion she pleased. She made a variety of poisons and potions to add to her collection and sold them for little coin here and there when her husband was away gathering the skins of the beasts.

Then there was her grandfather, Draco himself. He had chosen the path of the Warrior back when he was young. His sword was so large, majestic and beautiful, able to be swung at high speeds and kill off his opponents with minimal effort. Though, because he was blessed, he also was given the dark arts and was able to be a battle mage of sorts.

Of course, then there was the mace, the one thing that no one in her family had obtained. The barbaric mace was something that was also available, but didn't please her as much as the previous three choices. Maybe it was because no one showed the interest in it either? Or maybe it was because she was leaning more one way already? It didn't matter, either way she decided that the mace wasn't the path for her to go down. Someone else could choose that if they so desired. It wasn't for her.

It was then that her decision was made, she just had to talk to Draco and obtain the weapon of her desire. That would come soon...very, very soon.

I met with some rather unpleasant people today. s**t, they were more than unpleasant. They were rude, discriminating, and so ignorant of who I was. They came to the Oblivionite's continent and sat there, talking down to me!? ME!! They will get what's coming to them sooner or later, trust me.

___Two Birds, One Stone

The morning had come and Nayal was ready to begin her weapon choosing. She had warned Draco that she was ready, even against his wishes. It was her decision, and even Draco couldn't change her mind. She went to his office in the morning fully ready to tell him what she wanted to do with the rest of her life.

"Good morning, Draco. I have made my decision. Wait...where are the weapons?" she began as she walked into his presence, realizing that the weapons were no where to be found.

"What kind of joke is this?" she asked, crossing her arms and glaring at the Master.

"I told you, you are not ready to choose your weapon, Nayal. You have far too much training to complete before you can take on that kind of responsibility. You haven't even fought off a dragon yet!" he spat.

Nayal's eyes narrowed further and a sly smile grew upon her lips. "That, Master Verrano, is where you are dead wrong." she said, slipping her hand into her pocket to pull out two shining green orbs. She walked over and set them upon the man's desk, where he sat in his chair on the other side. She then rolled them over to him.

"Two Ysali dragons were killed to obtain these orbs, obviously. I did it myself. I'm ready to take on the responsibility, whether you are ready to hand it to me or not." she said, slamming her open palms upon his desk, leaning over a bit, staring deep into his soulless sockets.

The man took the two orbs in his hand, looking them over and standing up. He moved over to a large cabinet and opened it up. Inside was a brilliant display of any and all colors of Dragon Souls imaginable. He delicately placed each one inside their designated area and closed the cabinet and locked it, placing the key back into his coat pocket.

"I see you've gone against my orders and went out of the city's walls without protection. I'm sure these dragons didn't go down without a fight. Tck, stupid, immature little girl. You think that it's going to be easy going out there and win this war? We have to strategize and be ready for anything. We cannot have foolish mistakes being made. Especially by you, the heir of this throne. Now leave my presence and get back to your training with Master Oraric." he said, sitting back down into his chair, picking up some documents to begin reading.

Nayal stood firm. She wasn't going anywhere. "I AM the heir to this throne, and that gives me a say in what I do. Strategize all you want, grandfather. I am my own person and I make the decisions in my life, not you, Master Oraric, or Amara...ME. Now, I have decided that I'm going to choose my weapon, and you are going to hand it over to me. This is MY decision and I decide when I'm ready. That time, is now. I've proven that I can handle myself against a dragon and I'm ready to take on an Oblivionite's true role as an aid to this war. I'm going to be an archer like my father. The BEST archer in YOUR army, and I'm going to start it this instant." she steamed.

Draco's sockets narrowed as he listened to her speak. He began to tap upon the desk for a few moments before standing up, walking over to the case and pulling out a makeshift bow. He placed it upon the table and began to speak.

"Take it and get out of my sight." he said, not even looking at her whatsoever but the documents he held in his hands instead.

Nayal took the bow and walked out of the office, slamming the door behind her and not saying another word until she made it back to her family home at the far end of town.

"As stubborn as that man can be, he knows I'm right. Now...all I have to do is say the words and you're mine." she said, looking down at the bow in her hands.

The Oblivionite closed her eyes and held the bow tightly in both hands. She bowed her head and whispered the words. "I accept you."

Just then, a powerful tinge of magic escaped her body and dove down deep into the bow. She opened her sockets and noticed the bow was now fully realized. A black bow with dark red markings and a dark leather strap for easy grip and a strong dark twine to pull. The tips at each end fanned outward like wings. This was going to be fun. An evil smile crept upon her lips. The deed was done.

___The Calling

"Miss Nayal...Miss Nayal. Oh, there you are...I have been told that Master Verrano wishes to see you in his quarter's promptly. Do you wish me to get the carriage ready?" Amara stated, walking into the dining area to see Nayal finishing up a meal.

"Yes, fine. I don't understand him at all. One day he's telling me to get out of his sight, the next he wants me urgently. He really needs to make up his mind." the girl said with a sigh.

Amara smiled and left to do what she had said. Nayal picked herself up and began to get ready for this 'prompt' meeting of theirs.

Within the hour, Nayal was dressed and ready to impress her grandfather.

"Miss Nayal, the carriage is ready for your departure."

"Thank you Amara. You really do too much for me and I don't tell you that enough." Nayal said.

Amara's sockets widened. "W-why thank you Miss Nayal. I love being there for you whenever you need me. It's an honor to serve." she said, almost rather shocked that she would thank her.

Nayal nodded with a smile as she began to leave. She truly felt that Amara was the closest thing to a mother she had now. Hopefully she would be around for a long time coming.

~~~
Knock. Knock. Knock.
"Come in." Draco stated dryly as he thumbed through paperwork on his desk.
"You called for me?" Nayal asked as she walked into the office with an aura of arrogance around her.
"Yes, I did. I've gotten wind of some...less than pleasing news and I'm in need of your help, Nayal." he said.
"Hah, wait...you're asking me for help?" she asked with a chuckle. "You must be joking. What on earth could you need my help for?" she asked, almost curious but at the same time, completely baffled.
The man stood, very solemn and straight-faced. "This is of the utmost importance. Have you ever heard of the Order of the Onyx?" he asked.
"No...I can't say I have, why?"
"They're an organization who is against me. I hear they want me dead. I have an informant among their ranks, and he's getting cold feet, to say the least. I will need you to be our new informant." Draco said, leaning back upon his desk, slowly pulling out a couple of things from the inside of his jacket pocket.
"Wait...you want me to spy on an organization that's trying to kill you? How in hell do you think I'll be able to pull that off? Everyone knows who I am." she said.
"I will tell you more in time. As for now, here are some gifts I'm sure that will come in handy for you in the future." he said, holding out both the thin arrow and a Ysali Dragon Tear. "Since you took up your father's path of an archer, I figured the arrow was a nice, congratulatory touch from an ancestor. It's special and will give you strength. The tear will help you feel powerful enough to take on even stronger foes. You'll need the strength if you decide to go through with this. Now go, think upon the things we discussed, but remember. Do not tell anyone what you heard today. This stays between us. This is delicate information, Nayal." he said, straightening up and maneuvering around the desk to sit down once again.
"Heh...okay...I guess I'll be back...thank you." she said, still thoroughly confused, leaving with her items, she looked down at the special arrow which radiated power. The Ysali tear pulsed with a green light every second. This day was becoming more and more strange. She would definitely need to think upon what was discussed.
___The Decision
The entire night thoughts of what this was truly about and how they would pull this off intrigued Nayal's mind. Swimming around like fish in a bowl, the thoughts would go one way, turn, and go another. Confused and stumped, she couldn't sleep whatsoever.
'How could he possibly think this will all work out. If I don't do it, I'll probably be sentenced to a life imprisoned and shackled to his side as his prized possession. If I do go, I'll likely be killed. I don't even understand how he expects me to be able to do something like this. Tck, he's got the nerve asking me for favors though, after all he's put me through? But...he is my only family. The sole person left in my life by blood. I can't possibly...no...he must have an explanation for me. He just must.' she thought as she tossed and turned in bed. The thoughts circled around, constantly feeling guilty if she doesn't go through with this plot, and scared if she does...hell, terrified even.
The next day, she decided she would go back to Draco after using the power he gave to her. She crushed the tear the night before, with massive amounts of power rushing within her. It was a thrill she hadn't ever felt before, a special sensation that she longed for again.
She decided that she would first explore the option after having a discussion with Draco. So, she was off to his quarters.
Knock. Knock.
"Come in."
Nayal walked in, closing the door behind her. In front of her was her grandfather, Draco, and his Grand Adviser, Sven. They seemed to be discussing an important matter when she arrived, but halted the conversation when she had entered.
"So, I've decided that I will think no further upon the offer you gave me yesterday until I hear more about what you have planned." she said, crossing her arms.
"Alright, fair enough. Sven, explain." Draco said, crossing over to his desk to sit down.
"As you wish, Master." the gangling Oblivionite began, pacing the floor before Nayal.
"Well, as you were told, Master Verrano's informant within the Order of the Onyx is beginning to back out of our deal. He feels as though he's falling under suspicion a bit too much. So, he says he wants out. He told us, however, that he will put in a good word for whomever we wish to put forth as the new informant. You're the most logical choice, Nayal." he began.
"And why is that?"
"Foolish girl, let me finish before you speak, alright?" he scolded.
Nayal looked at him with disgust, but kept silent. How dare he talk to her like that?! Draco didn't even give him a second look. Those two were more buddy buddy than she had realized. Only Draco had ever talked to her in that manner. Her blood began to boil as the man continued his speech.
"Now then, the reason we would use you is to actually keep you safe. Ever hear the expression, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"? This is the prime example of those very words. Of course, to pull this off, you can't really be you. You must assume a different identity, and we have this course all planned out. All we need is your permission to set it into motion." he said.
"Wait, how am I not to be me? This is a whole lot more trouble than it's worth. I've heard enough." she said, waving it off and beginning to storm out the door.
"WAIT!" Draco yelled at her as she opened the door. He stood from his desk, walked over to Nayal and pushed her away from the door. She gave him a quick look of disgust before he began to speak.
"You will make me proud by doing me this favor. Or else I will have you sentenced to a life in prison. You may be my heir, but you are in no way to disrespect me in this manner. When I tell you to jump, you ask, "how high?", are we understood?" Draco said, his voice booming.
Nayal's sockets narrowed. "So I'm just supposed to risk my life...for you? Because you're my...'grandfather'? Heh, and what do I get in return? If I'm found out, I'm killed. If I decline your proposition than I'm thrown into the dungeons until my dying breath. If you're trying to win my favor Draco, this isn't the way to do it." she said, once again crossing her arms and standing there proudly.
"If you complete this task I give you...all of Obsidian City will be yours. I'll promote you to whatever you wish. Instead of being simply my prize, you'll win the ranks you've only ever dreamed of. Be able to go out and adventure with my approval, take along with you any of the guards you desire. Become the Queen of Oblivion; and then soon, I will step down and you will become the new ruler of Obsidian City and all of Soudul. I will grant you the powers of Soudana herself, and allow you to rule while I am your adviser. You will have unlimited power and control. I promise you that."
Nayal looked at him in confusion, was he serious? Would he really promote her to whatever she saw fit? Would he really step down and allow her to rule over the land? She loved the thought of power and control. Manipulation was in her blood, but was she willing to put her life on the line for this man? Then again, he could be right, maybe sleeping with the enemy would be her best protection. If he was serious, than she really would be the ruler of all Soudul. That much she was pleased to hear. Her greedy blood began to boil.
"Fine. If that's my prize, I shall do your bidding. Just tell me what I need to do."
___The Dark Ball
Sven was pleased to hear those words. "Ah, I can see it now..." he said, turning away from them.
There you will be at the Dark Ball, walking down the stairs in your beautiful black and blue gown, hair perfectly settled upon your head in a sweep of majesty, a tiara of diamonds placed upon your head and that beautiful sapphire necklace with a stunning set of diamond earrings to match. Your gorgeous beauty stunning all that view you.
Then, an arrow pierces your chest from our master marksman. Oh...the pain you will feel. You'll fall backwards so delicately and lifeless to the stairs, lying in agonizing pain, slowly drifting off to death's doorstep as the guards pick you up and rush you to our dark healer. There we will be, carving the new piece out of your socket, to mask your old life. The dark healer will use her magic to bring forth new life just before death sinks his teeth into your soulless self. Within the castle you will stay for a week's time.
Though you will live, those outside of these walls will never know that the granddaughter of the great and powerful Draco has made it through. Everyone will be told that you died as we tried to revive you. News of this sad event will reach the corners of the world, as Draco's only living descendant has perished to the bloodthirsty assassin's arrow. The entire world will weep for your death as your memorial service continues. You will be forever missed within the community and your death will be something of great honor to all for the rest of eternity.
From there, after the week's time is up, a new family arrives in Obsidian City: a father, mother, and daughter. The Morrowin family. The man, Draven Morrowin, is an archer, working to make an honest living within the bustling city. The woman, Lilith Morrowin, is a mage, versed well in her dark voodoo magic and trying to make ends meet with her power over herbs and alchemy. The girl is Adrastea Morrowin...you, Nayal. She will have dark leather garb of an assassin's nature, hair short and as dark crimson as the blood that runs through her veins. An archer like her father who seeks adventure, fortune, and is willing to do anything to get it...much like you're wanting this moment, right? Heheh, she will be taken into the city and within a months time, our current informant will be spreading your new name, Adrastea, to all of the Order. You will be their newest initiate, able to take on the life of a citizen of the Order, doing whatever they see fit. Finding the information we seek.
We will then meet once a week to discuss the dealings of the Order. Oh the life you shall live. Perfect as long as things go according to our master plan.
The man stopped his daydreaming and as he said it, so it came to pass. Within a month's time, Nayal's secret death was executed without a hitch and the new family was living amongst the city folk of Obsidian City.
Nayal Lynn was no more. Adrastea Morrowin is the now and forever. She walked the city streets acknowledging no one she previously knew, living the new life she was assigned, all for the power and control it would grant her once the steps were fulfilled. Oh how she dreamed of the power she would hold in her hands one day. It would all be worth it.
