Reno was a gift from Noah's mother, and for a while, she was his showing Pokemon. When Noah decided that showing wasn't something he wanted to pursue, Reno stuck by Noah's side through his work on his father's breeding farm. She's his best friend, and watches Noah as if he were her own child. She's fiercely protective of him, but listens well to his commands, even if she doesn't particularly like them. She's classified as a Companion, and it suits her, for Reno can easily be whatever Noah wants her to be: Battler, Show, or simply a warm pet to cuddle with.

In the beginning, Reno knew only the wild. How to forage through big metal cans for food and where to find companionship when she needed it. In the city, things were worse than in the wild; sure, food was abundant, but the dangers were tenfold. And then she knew a trainer. Amelia Hart, her first trainer, who tried so hard to become a proper Pokemon Trainer. But she had failed, as some do when their heart is not in the act. Rather than let Reno remain at home, gaining weight and being generally useless, Amelia had traded her.
The woman's name was Claudia, and she was pretty. She was well known for Pokemon Contests, and ribbons decorated her mantle. Was this Reno's new calling? It seemed to be. For weeks, Claudia would bring Reno to contests, putting her in the lower ranked shows while the true winners were paraded around in the super contests. Finally, Reno began to feel like she was home. But then, Claudia explained to Reno in terms that she could only understand in the most base of ways; she was not Claudia's Vulpix anymore. Now, she was Noah's.
At first, Reno wondered what she had done. Was she bad? Was that why her trainers kept giving her away? But it was a blessing; she still saw Claudia, and quite a lot at first! Noah was Claudia's son, not a new stranger, and Reno loved the little Master. They grew up together, Noah only a child when he got Reno, and tried to win shows together. It wasn't meant to be, however, and when Noah decided he didn't want to show, Reno wondered if she would again be given away.
Instead, Noah changed her registration. She was no longer a Battle-Show Pokemon. Now, she was a Companion, a jack of all trades. She travelled with Noah to Chaz's ranch, where she met and played with many pokemon, and when Noah decided to again travel abroad, to a spooky place that promised only destruction and danger... Reno went with him. Someone had to protect the Little Master.
