He returned the gesture. "Tuomas. That is what I have gone by for several hundreds of years now. I would give you a last name, however that has been lost to time." Walking over to Ilyia, he peered out into the darkened hall. "I do hope matters can be resolved swiftly. The magics of this castle run deep and I fear the consequences if Nyx were to get her hands on their secrets."

Ilyia nodded, not for a moment doubting his words, though in itself the thought offered her an idea. "I may be able to ward this room for a time, in case the worst has already been realized. Perhaps not the most honorable tactic for a figure of the Light, but I do believe I can avoid detection until anyone realizes that magically speaking, this room no longer exists for scrying." She looked to the hall, concern crossing her face yet again. "In the meantime, I wish you speed in recovering this book of yours. Blessings of Mystriel upon you, Tuomas."

The youth offered one more slight bow. "I will return shortly." He scanned the darkened halls with trepidation before swiftly making his way to the castle's library.

Immediately after she had closed the door, Ilyia scribed several wards about the walls and doorway, silver light flowing from her fingertip into the walls about her and glowing with seclusive power once finished. "That should do," she said quietly. Moving over to the bed she retrieved her sword and slid it into its respective sheath.

On his way back to Ilyia's room, Tuomas was nearly sent reeling by the immense increase in darkness present. It was with great difficulty that he struggled up to the door to knock.

Ilyia hurried back to the door and opened it, relieved to see Tuomas once again. She backed into the wall, ushering him in and keeping a watchful eye on the wards. "Welcome back," she said half-quietly, "I do hope things don't get any worse..." A single look into the hallway didn't relieve the notion in the slightest, however, and her worried look compounded on itself time and time again.

The youth quickly entered the room, hurrying over to a nearby table. He set the book down and turned to Ilyia. "Indeed. I have not felt such darkness within these walls in nearly five centuries. I have suspicions that Nyx herself is somewhere on these premises."

Ilyia's look of alarm was mild, despite her fear of Nyx, given that she had been repeatedly led to suspect the very same notion and had in fact caught a slight insinuation of such a prospect from Katsuto's choice of words. She closed the door as quietly as she could. "To be strictly honest, it wouldn't surprise me. The figures I showed you earlier, one of them outright declared she was among Nyx's council, and present company at the time determined it must be as you say from news that Lux had arrived. That, and..." It struck her then. Katsuto had died by Nyx's hand! How plainly obvious could it be? She gasped, dropping her head against the wall. "It all makes sense now. As you say, the Lord is not himself..." She looked to Tuomas expectantly, "Who else could he have become, given the hand that slew him?"

The youth chewed at his bottom lip as his worst fears had been brought to his attention. "There was a time very long ago where the Lord served Nyx freely and of his own will. Those were very dark times, miss Ilyia. It is possible that this same darkness that had inhabited Lord Katsuto during that time has found its way back into his heart. If this is the case, destroying Nyx may be our only option."

"Destroying - ?!" Ilyia cut herself off, pinching her lips in an effort to restrain her absolute disbelief. She took several deep breaths before finally calming and nodding ever so slightly. "I see your case, but you ask the impossible. Nyx is the single greatest force of Darkness in all existence, and altogether an outright impossibility to slay entirely." She drew her blade but an inch out of its sheath, the detailing lining with a silver light for a moment. Ilyia frowned. "And yet for some reason I doubt I would ever manage such a feat alone... do you have a plan, Tuomas?"

Tuomas shook his head, running a nervous hand through his white hair. "Unfortunately, I do not. I know that I ask the impossible, and yet I cannot simply stand by and allow this kingdom to once more be consumed in darkness. Please understand." He looked up imploringly to the woman.

Ilyia raised her hand to her chin, contemplating in more ways than she dared to count for how fast her mind was reeling. "If it is as you say, it may be a plausible notion to strike at the hand of all this, unless......" She nearly struck the wall in a double-take, her eyes flying wide as any potential reason for Tuomas' insistence on guiding her hand in particular had been so evident. "I can't guarantee this will prove any help in the slightest, but there is a chance the former lord's darkness may be reversed with enough of an infusion... in which I am potentially able, provided he doesn't outright kill me in the process..." She blinked, looking up to him with a contemplative focus in her face. "Is there any chance of he and I entering a duel of sorts? Without any outward distraction, I may be able to help him but it's risky enough with just the two of us."

He pondered this possibility for a few minutes, pacing the room in silence. As much of an impossibility as it was against Nyx, it may prove to be quite nearly as impossible to talk rationally with Katsuto while he was in such a state. "A duel? I can only see it being possible if you make a wager. Something that would capture his attention." He paused, concern evident on his features. "Still, this could prove to be most dangerous. Is it wise to risk it?"

"Are we being given a choice?" Ilyia looked to Tuomas, knowing her options were few, very far between and her choice of them being the least dangerous to those besides herself - let alone her already-extreme being out of place as it was. "Besides, I don't need to speak with him to infuse him with Light enough to cast out what Nyx is at fault for. That said I don't honestly care what happens to me; this is my duty."

Tuomas lowered his head in respect for Ilyia's determination and selflessness. "I will assist you in any way that I can. I too have a duty to my Lord. Even if only to protect him from himself at this time."
