Oni-Angel Lord Vyce Time-Spanned Soul Aeinor Sometimes living on an island country (England) where not EVERYONe hates the prime minister is quite nice. But I say, phone tappin' is preeeety creepy... No offense, but in England that doesn't sound like that far of a leap considering the extensive use of suveillance cameras that are spread throughout the cities... neutral It is a nice little leap, since the cameras have worked, and it only surveys public life, not your privacy. There was actually this guy who was trying to figure out why the police didn't seem to respond well to rapes being perpetrated in the public areas (especially after a specific incident where a woman called about having been raped, and the cops took about two hours to get to her while she was shivering and freaking out at a phone booth). So he dressed up in a weird alien costume and began walking around the camera'ed areas just doing normal stuff at around 3 AM. Sure enough, within five minutes, cops in multiple cop cars came out and asked him what he was doing. Britain got pretty embarrassed over that, considering that the woman was waiting for 2 HOURS after being raped, and yet a guy doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but wearing an alien costume got the response of two to three cop cars. Wow...thats just...I don't whether to laugh to be angry at it. But it sure is something to think about when a guy in a suit calls for more attention than a serial rapist Moving on. Should the president be able to bend the law and general public will to that of his own? *'Cause where all this sprang from*

I think the whole act to begin with was Unconstitutional, the problem is that the majority of Americans are stupid. Blindly following whatever the government tells them...

Time-Spanned Soul Having nothing to hide is one thing, but I don't people are going to want to order certain services anymore if their transactions and such are being monitered... and people wonder why I consider moving to Canada... This is why I'm wanting to move to Canada now instead to the U.S... I mean, sure I have more friends in America and the whole American Dream before it went down the drain-pipe. And being from a former British colony, I'd rather fight my chances in Canada where they have normal things, like PROVINCES and PARLIAMENT and PRIME MINISTERS. blaugh Also, there are better social welfare programs there as well from what I can understand from my one friend living in Canada-land. 3nodding On a general note, I don't believe our phones are tapped in South Africa, especially after the pretty nasty thing called Apartheid. From my understanding of current law in this country, they can only tap phones of suspected criminals if they have evidence that they are dealing in shady dealings - I think that's how they got one power mogul busted further for co-conspirating with the former Vice-President because his attorney kept denying the allegations against the mogul. If anything, we got a bunch of angry people wanting to get their land back (supposedly) and a bunch of bitter people wanting Apartheid back, a bunch of people fleeing the country fearing it's going to end up like Zimbabwe (which it won't, but who knows!) and then the rest of us trying to get on by. Which further reminds me, it completely gets my goat when African-Americans go on and on about visiting the "Motherland" when I am, by far, more African than they ever will be. ~watched an annoying episode of the Amazing Race where they were in South Africa~ If you weren't born here, and your desendents were over a hundred years ago, there is no way you can lay a claim to MY country or MY continent. I may have 1/4 of this and a 1/4 of that in my blood, but I don't need to be black in order to be a true African.

On second thought- ewww...creepy. I dont want anyone listening to that except the two of us!
Have they any clue what they're getting themselves into with this?!? Hello- phone sex?
I dont want government officials jacking off listening to my phone calls!
*Its not that phone sex is all I ever do on the phone, I just have one of those voices, you know...

Huuuuuuh?! How come the president gets so much power!? sad I wanna be in control of my conversations! (And like as Random NaySayer said: Phone sex is reasonably PRIVATE!) It kinda gives me shivers thinking that people could be listening to my *slightly risque* conversations with Luke....Stupid people....But if is stops terrorists, well, by all means, let the officials jack off! (Joking. this is what sleep deprivation does to me. Wish me luck on midterms... crying )

What he is doing is unconstitutional because the courts had no real involvement in the phone tapping decision and probable cause for the taps does not have to be shown.

I once had a friend of the male gender whom, while I was dicussing a far from sexy topic was fondling his bits and somewhat traumatized me. To a point.
I've been told that I have "that voice". Guess if my fat Psychology degree don't get me a job, I have a stunning future in the phone-sex industry. mrgreen

I mean, how hard can it be to go "ah! oh no!"?

Too bad Alito actually supports this view of Presidential power. Which leads to the question, how the ******** was he confirmed?
On phone sex... Frankly, that industry as a whole scares me. It's too close to cyber which... Just is not my thing. At all.
I'm of the opine that this is not going to last too much longer. A small but vocal group are getting more and more forceful on this, and over time, they will probably gain the momentum to fight this.
AT&T would do well to support them. Not only good PR, but setting up these wiretaps is expensive.

Hentai voices would be painless and require less imagination whee NekoIncChan On phone sex... Frankly, that industry as a whole scares me. It's too close to cyber which... Just is not my thing. At all. It would say that it's tons more fun that cyber sex, and that you can tell if the other person is having a good time too. It's easy to fake an orgasm Meg Ryan style on the net.

madamfluff It's easy to fake an orgasm Meg Ryan style on the net. Pff. Meg Ryan stole her skits from me! surprised On the topic, is there any hard written proof of all this Gov't phonetapping law, stating that it is allowed? Last I heard, the only way the government could get away with doing it is by listening for key words in a conversation. If those key words came up, they are legally allowed to record your phone call... but the recording can ONLY be used if you are to be prosecuted for suspected criminal activities. I don't think the Government can have you ridiculed for buying raunchy hentai from the internet after tapping your phone, because that is then definitely a breach of privacy and many notorious home privacy acts. Unless your raunchy hentai is going to cause explosions of a less "in your pants" nature.

It's sad, Really it is. I don't know what else to say that's already been said. But all that's left is soon we'll be forced into being told what to eat, what to wear...unless that's already happening. I'm starting to feel like one of those people in the Giver.

1984 is a far better interpretation of what you are thinking of, Namida-san.
The thing is, at the rate things are going, it's not going to be the government forcing such things down our throats; it's going to be the corporations.
The issue is that, plain and simple, Bush broke the laws. He even broke the more permissive ones he himself wrote. There's "bad for society", then there's just "stupid".
