gigacannon Yeah. It could be that this instant is the only way anything can be, and there is no such thing as past and future. It's possible, but there's still no reason to believe either way. Fair enough. I read about another idea in the newest Iain Banks book, in it there was a religion called the truth, the basic idea was that the universe was a giant simulation, but if enough people came to "realize" it was a simulation the value of the simulation would cease, thereby ending the universe. Silly but possible, remotely

My point was the the Genesis story makes not mention of God creating an old universe. Which he would have had to have done to make the story compatible with reality. Nor does it mention God placing fossils in amusing places for us to find. Or God making everything just slightly different in such a way as to look like they evolved.
That was all I meant.

If a prophet had wandered off the hill describing a 15 billion year old universe, with stars and planets and a spherical Earth, then nobody would have believed him and written it down because everybody believed in the firmament, and a flat Earth.

Agreed. But that does mean that a literal, word for word interpretation of genesis shouldn't be given serious consideration.

Imagine Noah trying to hurd two T-rexs into the boat with sheep and cows and other yummy stuff for them to eat.
and what about the ducks Noah didn't save. how did they die. there ducks they like water. If the flood did happen then the world would be infested with ducks.

And what about all the thousands and thousands of insect species? How long did it take him to catch them?

[.citrus_apple.] zealously_incorrigible That many animals could fit in the ark because God made it and through God all things are possible. umm im not sure you know this but Noah made the ark, god just told him too and it is impossible to fit even one of every animal on the ark. Yeah, uh, that would be one leaky arc. Doesn't that mean two of each type of plant, and for that matter, two types of everyting alive?

This thread is the kind of blind following i'm talking about ..the creator of this thread is probably blindly following a religion her parents gave her and has never bothered to question it or look into anything else This is a classic example of a sheep !

A couple things to take into consideration -
1. Dinosaurs are mentioned as beasts and monsters in the old testiment before the flood, but not after. 2. It took Noah 400 years to build the ark - that thing was probably huge.

windswept_fury A couple things to take into consideration - 1. Dinosaurs are mentioned as beasts and monsters in the old testiment before the flood, but not after. Only if you really look hard...with the specific intention of finding them. Quote: 2. It took Noah 400 years to build the ark - that thing was probably huge. I don't remember any dates or times being in the Bible story of Noah's Ark.

I read a scholar commentary - based on a complex timeline of the Bible, Noah started building the ark when he was 200, 300 years before his three sons were born. When he was 600, the ark was comleted. Not much evidence, so I honestly don't put much weight in it, but most biblical scholars believe it to be so.
