Dearest Journal,

I have adopted and brought home a darling little girl! She is very sweet and has taken to her family rather quickly. Even Claudine seems to approve of her which was very important that my beloved and my daughter get along since they will both be getting acquainted over time - not that I would give up a small girl just because my beloved doesn't agree with her but still...It is painless now that I know that everyone is okay with her. It was a bit abrupt on my end to adopt the child so I wasn't sure what to expect at all.

My brother, Onuris, seems to be quite amused by her and will often give her small silk flowers instead of real ones (I had warned him prior about her ...preferred food). Kiri always seems a bit saddened that the flowers are silk instead of real but she warmed up to them in time and will keep them in the most random of places! I found a bunch of them in a small music box I had given her when we first got home, such a silly thing.

Thus far she likes her cousins and her sisters and has the ability to just casually 'blend' and do whatever everyone else wishes to do. I try to encourage her to eat some other things but it is difficult...She has taken to vegetables and fruit easily enough. Meat? Not so much. She seems to turn her nose up to it.

Ahh well.

I hope she will grow up well under my care. She is such a sweet girl.

SEPTEMBER UPDATE
2010

[√] She has found a love for carnivals. She likes how lively they are and the rides that she could go on were fairly fun. Kiri has made a new friend there by the name of Aleric.

[√] She rather enjoys sugary treats - mostly those with honey or flower nectar somehow involved, otherwise she isn't fond of anything that is chocolaty or 'artificial' in flavor and creation.

[√] She seems a little sad and forlorn now that fall is coming and the flowers and other plants are 'going to sleep'. She looks forward to spring though the idea that there is a holiday where there is giving and receiving of gifts coming soon.

[√] Kiri also seems intrigued by the idea of Hallow's Eve coming. She wishes to partake in some giving out of candy to other children rather than going forth and collecting some of her own. She seems a very generous child...May have to keep an eye on how much candy she gives out. Haha.

[√] I keep getting her pretty new dresses but they keep getting dirtied because she is so rough with them! I wonder if I should settle for something else for her...

OCTOBER UPDATE
2010

[√] Kiri wants to be a daisy for the Hallows Eve events. I am somewhat amused at a small winged daisy flitting about and helping with giving out candy.

[√] On the night of Halloween she gave out a lot of candy with her family. Kiri seemed to enjoy it very much except for the 'bloodier' costumes of some of the older children.

[√] Kiri wants to try painting. I wonder if that would be a good idea?

[√] I am starting to dress Kiri in warmer clothes now that the temperature seems to be decreasing. It seems harder to wake her up sometimes..

[√] I am starting to teach her some etiquette but she seems to want to follow her own set of rules when it comes to behaving.

NOVEMBER UPDATE
2010

[√] I finally gave in and bought her a small watercolor paint set and some papers that she can safely draw on with the colors. Kiri seems delighted at the chance to do so. Though she tends to use her hands instead...Perhaps I should have bought finger paints?

[√] She is finally observing some of her lessons in etiquette that I am trying to teach her at least as far as asking for things politely and such...I suppose that is all I can ask for.

[√] Kiri seems to get sleepy earlier in the day and she'll sleep through the entire night until I come wake her up. I hope that is okay...

[√] I am starting to dress Kiri in warmer clothes now that the temperature seems to be decreasing. It seems harder to wake her up sometimes..

[√] Since flowers are harder to get and offer her she seems more open to other things to eat. She snuck a bite of some flowers I got from a plant nursery and seemed a bit displeased at their taste. Haha.

DECEMBER UPDATE
2010

[√] I had given her some money to buy things for her family as presents for the upcoming holidays. She enjoyed spending the money for gifts it seemed. She even added to the gifts by painting a little picture for everyone - how sweet!

[√] Kiri wrapped all the gifts on her own - it was an adventure it seemed. She got tape and wrapping paper everywhere. I am still finding some tape stuck to my dress...

[√] On Christmas day she was more excited about people reacting to her gifts rather than receiving any of her own. Not that she hated any of her gifts but she seemed happier giving them.

[√] Kiri enjoyed playing in the snow - sort of. She preferred the warm drinks after wards - I gave her warm herbal tea with honey instead of hot cocoa since she never seemed that fond of chocolate flavor...

[√] Kiri is starting to get a bit of an adventurous spirit to her. Thus far she is keeping it close to the house where we can keep an eye on her.

JANUARY UPDATE
2011

[√] The concept of it being a new year now seems to confuse her at the moment but she's so adorable while trying to figure out why this happens. Right now her theory is that it is how new plants are born.

[√] She learned about poetry from one of the maids in Claudine's home. She's trying to make some up of her own...

[√] Kiri enjoys the snow to some extent but she never wants to stay outside for very long when there is snow on the ground. A couple of times down a hill on a sled and she wants back inside!

[√] Watercolor art seems to make her happy. She refuses to paint anything winter related though. Always plants or people.

[√] Sometimes she flutters her wings a bit when she's thinking about something...

FEBRUARY UPDATE
2011

[√] She heard one of the maids talking about Valentines Day. When explained that flowers was one of the gifts that could be given Kiri seemed quite intrigued.

[√] Kiri saw some flowers at a flower shop and asked if we could buy some. I hope she doesn't intend to eat them...

[√] One of her older sisters got her into doing some tea party games. I peeked in on them and it seems rather cute. Kiri doesn't seem to take it too seriously because she seems to insist on odd things happening. Apparently Queen Teddy is having a war with Duke Caterpillar. A fight broke out during the tea party between the two dignitaries...Lucille was amused and yet not.

[√] Started to teach Kiri how to read and write so she doesn't always have to recite poetry she comes up with. I gave her a small booklet in which to practice writing.

[√] Valentines came around and she gave everyone flower necklaces that she made with the small flowers I bought for her. The poor flowers were a bit wilted but her heart was in the right place. She swears she didn't eat any of them quite impressive discipline for a small child.

MARCH UPDATE
2011

[√] She is slowly but surely learning her numbers and letters. Kiri has learned how to read full sentences on her own without prompting and she can add simple numbers - I am very proud of her. It took a lot of constant reminding. Kiri appears to like to take her time with lessons preferring to focus on one thing at a time for now.

[√] With spring time comes more flowers and more 'live jewelry' for her family. She is starting to be more active and is delighted with all the life that is coming forth. She seems very happy to sit outside for as long as possible during sunny days. Often I find her napping in a sunny patch on the soft grass.

[√] I have recently told my family about my plans to move out with Kiri. Kiri and I are going to live with my beloved Claudine. Kiri was a little dismayed about it at first fearing she'd never see her cousins again but Onuris and I assured her that she could come see them any time and they could even visit whenever they wished. There were some tears but she seems alright now.

[√] She is starting to gain interest in herbs. Kiri found and ate an herb thinking it was a simple flower. Thankfully it was non-poisonous and thus didn't harm her. The little dear seems to insist on helping her find out more about each herb she finds.

[√] She is starting to paint 'landscapes' with her water paint. They are rather darling little pictures. I keep each one in an album I purchased in the markets.

APRIL UPDATE
2011

[√] We've finally joined Claudine's household. For now Kiri is going to share a room with one of her older sisters to help her get settled in and what not. She seemed rather happy to be moving now that she was certain that the only thing that was really changing was where she sleeps at night.

[√] Steady progress was made with her reading and writing. She can read an entire children's book on her own without stumbling or halting too much. She has also started writing more and more poetry just at random - she won't let any of us read it yet, however. Funny how she seems willing to recite but not willing to let us read, haha.

[√] Kiri insists on helping the staff with the gardens. They assure me that she doesn't get in the way and that they will send her off if she does. For the most part they seem to give her busy work such as holding onto tools and what not. As long as they don't make the mistake of giving her flowers - her restraint is admirable when making her 'jewelry' but I am not sure how long it lasts when she doesn't consider the flowers to be 'jewels' to work with.

[√] With a bit of praise and a smattering of bribery I am getting her to observe more etiquette and she's starting to act a little more like a proper little lady - at least around me. I cannot always say for sure how she behaves around others when she is gone from my sight.

[√] I have scheduled a bit of a routine checkup at the place she had come from and I had let her know of it. She seems excited about going back to have a look around again for a visit. I suppose sometimes even small children like taking a look at their past.

MAY UPDATE
2011

[√] She's settling into her new home rather nicely. She enjoys being able to play with her sisters whenever she wants though she misses her cousins. She writes them letters and draws them pictures.

[√] She has taken to attempting to fly. Jumping off of little things and fluttering her wings furiously. I'm just glad she hasn't taken to jumping off of higher places...I think she's too big or her wings are too small. I can't say which for sure yet.

[√] With spring comes the occasional rain showers. She tries anything and everything to sneak outside to play in the rain. She seems to revel in it as much as the plants do.

[√] Her watercolor paintings are turning out quite lovely. She seems to be getting an understanding of colors that match and clash and painting more in depth scenes. Certainly still childlike but they are lovely.

[√] Her checkup is soon. I also took her to a library to check out some books. Claudine has an extensive book collection but some books she didn't have...Kiri likes to try and read to her sisters almost as much as she likes listening to me read to her.

OBSERVATION
June 2011

Arianna and Kiri had entered the establishment and were soon directed toward the back where there was a little play area for Kiri to play in. Arianna released her daughter's hand and Kiri took off running toward the jungle gym where she then proceeded to climb and hang onto the bars feeling quite free and fearless.

Today it was just a routine observation - visitations to any biological kin would take place another time. Arianna just wanted to simply get her daughter used to coming back here every now and again first. Perhaps if it was made to be a regular event then the child wouldn't fuss at all when she was told that she needed to go, though to Arianna's recollection the child never fussed unless she was told not to eat certain plant life in the garden.

Kiri hung by her hands on the bars of the jungle gym. Large brown eyes peering down at the ground beneath her thoughtfully, "Mommy, want to see me fly?"

Arianna's breath caught in her throat a moment as she shook her head and then responded, "No I'd rather watch you climb down safely, little Dove."

The white haired toddler made a face over at her Guardian and she continued to hang for a moment, "Mommyyyy. I really can fly. Really! You shoulds watch."

The young woman wandered closer to the jungle gym and let out a disapproving 'tut' sound as she reached toward her daughter, "Kiri, my love you are far too heavy for your wings to handle. We went over this," she said softly trying to talk sense into her daughter.

Kiri peered over at her mother and shook her head, "Nah uh! I really can! See!" furiously her wings fluttered - there was enough force to cause a bit of a small breeze from the movement of the wings as long as a soft buzzing sound that might be associated with a hummingbird's fluttering wings.

Arianna let out a gasp as her child let go of the bars only to remain floating for but two seconds before she almost fell but a small purple hand managed to reach up and grasp a bar with Kiri beaming proudly at her mother, "See! See! I can fly...Kind of."

Her heart felt as if it would hammer out of her chest from the fright she just received from her daughter. Arianna let out another disapproving sound as she moved to collect her child from the bars of the jungle gym, "Honestly my Dove. You need to be careful, something terrible could have happened and then where would I be?"

Kiri seemed to think about it before she chimed, "In the hospital with me!"

The woman's brow knitted a bit at the thought as well as her daughter's enthusiasm about that statement, "That is nothing to be excited about. I would be worried sick and heartbroken. Do be careful next time."

The small girl tucked her head up under her mother's chin as she draped her small arms over Arianna's shoulders, "I'm sorry mommy but I really, really wanted you to see that I could do it. I wanted you and them to see."

She reached up brushed a hand through her daughter's loose hair and sighed a bit, "I know, my dear, I know, but next time try not to frighten me so."

The small girl let out a small sigh followed by a giggle, "Okay," she murmured. Arianna gave her daughter a kiss on the cheek before she gently set her down to play a little more before they would leave for dinner and a small shopping errand.
