schoolkid contest prompt [status: finished]

prompt

Everyone’s talking about it.

A possible meteorite sighting? In Destiny City?

Admittedly, you’re curious. So you snuck out to the park with your trusty flashlight. In the center is a big grassy hill, perfect for amateur stargazing despite the light pollution around you, a place you figured no one else would show up to because of the unspoken curfew. Only, when you’re almost there, you realize someone has beaten you to it. Wait, make that two ‘someone’s--

The first is giant - bigger than any human you'd ever seen before. In fact, the shape is the only thing human about it, as its skin (from what you can tell by your flashlight's soft glow) is almost fur-like, with the attire foreign, almost as if it didn't come from this world. Was that some sort of costume? But it's far too large to be a human...and whatever it is, it’s attacking – your sworn archnemesis from high school?? Your biggest rival in Destiny City is quickly losing the fight to a horror from the beyond, and you’re the only person that can help them. The creature winning against them appears to have already been injured in the brawl, bearing a long gash down its side. Could it be defeated, and your rival saved? But the more important question is… do you help them? Or would it be easier to let this monster do the dirty work before you take it on? Of course, if you don’t have the nerve or foresight, you can always run, but you’re pretty sure sudden movement is going to get that thing’s attention.

Better decide fast. Or slow.

THIS AIN’T SEAWORLD, THIS IS AS REAL AS IT GETS.

What brought him out past curfew was even a mystery to Sheldon Hobbes. The idea of a meteorite sighting in Destiny City had probably sparked that long thought dead twelve year old interest of his to see something from space, aa Physics and the makings of the universe. Perhaps he really did miss it.

"Whatever," the green haired youth sighed, flicking the filter to his cigarette to the ground, barely managing to crush the till burning butt as he stomped on past and up the hill. With his long forgotten flashlight in his back pocket, his hands went back into the pockets of his jeans, shuffling around more than trying to keep from freezing from the brisk air. They were just pulled out again, with his half empty pack and zippo lighter. The cig almost got out of the cardboard box when a low growl echoed in the cool air, snarling and ********, raccoons, he thought grumbling. Though, perhaps not, a second thought came to mind. That was much to deep, too loud and not really a raccoon sound. Sheldon glanced up finally and stopped, and stared. Blinked really. What the ********? Weird. Halloween it wasn't, nor a horror movie of attack of the werewolves. Or maybe that last batch was stronger than he thought. The teenager stared dumbfounded, staring across the field near that little hill he had intended to venture towards. An angry hell bent creature was tearing through the bushes, chasing someone with killer intent. [was that one of those monster things that those sailor things kept fighting on the news or something?] It looked to be winning too, even with the big gash on its side and the blood pouring from its eye. It roared again, making the poor sap he was chasing fall to the ground.

And it dawned on him then, who the creature was going after. Richard Lorre. The son of a b***h who had stolen his girlfriend in the 7th grade, had supported Leonard Cooper over Sheldon when they fought over who had done most of the work for their science fair project, ironically, about meteorites. That ******** who forced Sheldon out of that circle of friends to the next, and had thus ruined his life. Sheldon soft yellow eyes narrowed with disdain, watched motionless as the monster tried to stomp on his once best friend.

Richard screamed. Sheldon would have smirked, but all he could do was continue to glower and frown. He simply turned around, continued with his previous action of lighting his cigarette and walked away. If Richard managed to survive, he didn't care. If the other young man managed to get the upper hand or died trying, he didn't care.

He just didn't care anymore.

Solo [status: complete]
. in which Sheldon dreams haunting dreams

Nothing really bothered Sheldon Hobbes these days, there were a few things that could get under his skin and irritate but mostly they could be dismissed with a simple shrug of his shoulders.

His dreams, good or bad, often played out as reruns of television shows or movies he had watched that day trapped in a lull on his couch either alone or even sometimes with his neighbor Shawn. He would often be cast in the role of some secondary character, watching from afar as the main ensemble reenacted the script that had been written just for them. Sheldon never dreamed of anything original anymore, he just dreamed of prewritten scripts and scenes from the minds of people more creative than him.

Tonight, though, he found himself in the starring role in an old episode from his life. An episode that would have been deleted from TiVo the first chance he got and wiped out with a good batch of hash. But memory sometimes didn't work that way, not when it was a reminder of how things could change and not with someone as good a memory as Sheldon.

And worse yet, it played like a clip show and repeated like a broken record. Scenes fading in and out with star wipes, general wipes and fades to black over and over. He wasn't even a third person observer, it was all through his eyes and he knew he remembered every detail of these details - his clothing in all their nerdy fashion, his hair and how it was short and clean kept like his mother liked them and the frown and sadness he felt on his face.

There was Richard kissing Tracy in a sloppy, inexperienced and adolescence manner. Over and over ... over and over. No changes of perspective or points of view, just the crushing view he had of them from across the hall. The girl he had finally asked out and his best friend. The betrayal in his gut. Over and over. Until it faded and merged with the arguments with his other friends. Trivial. About everything, about Richard, about that stupid project. About the future. About how they all cheated on certain games. The accusations flying. Over and over. Overlapping with Richard and Tracy like a bad editing job. Over and over.

Being 'banished' from the group until their heads could cool. Yet they didn't. He hadn't let it, he had decided he would just move on in such a childish demeanor.

"I'm so very disappointed with you." Echoed the sad tone of his mother, replacing those clipped memories. He remembered that day, being caught and arrested for illegal use of a narcotic his new 'friends' had had him try. And her words repeated in the blackness that overtook his dream. "... so very disappointed...."

"Oh Shelly." His sister's face full of anguish appeared through the black like it was emerging from the water. Followed by his mother's, followed by his father's as other faces from his life began to filter through. All wearing looks of disdain, frustration, gloom and anger. All talking at the same time, muffled and indistinguishable.

".... so disappointed...." his mother's voice was the loudest and saddest of all of the echoed phrase. Her face the most prominent, that look like she was the failure here.

They all repeated the mantra, his mother's eyes closed with a heavy sigh. "Perhaps... we are just going to have to let you go."

He fell, like a trap door had been sprung from right beneath his feet. He fell as the faces turned to allow the black to shallow him up. It was slow, painless, weightless. Sheldon didn't scream, didn't struggle, didn't blink... didn't care.

He had given up caring a long time ago after all.

Except for the look on the face of his mother, the last to turn on him. The thin line of a frown and sad yellow eyes. That look that mirrored on his own face as he woke from the odd nightmare that had decided to haunt him that evening. Sheldon took in a long steady breath and attempted to close his eyes again. To go back to that place of an empty head, where nothing bothered him. Because he really didn't want to care anymore, didn't want things to get to him or matter.

Solo [status: complete. blah, it sucks. whatever]

t was black, a hard black to describe really. Couldn't be inky or an eerie, well it was eerie to be sure but wasn't the type that was stereotypical where some sort of monster would suddenly come out of an alley or which was deemed 'its a little too quiet.' And it was quiet, like his ears had been stuffed with cotton balls or had headphones that had long stopped playing music. If Sheldon dared to make a sound himself, he doubted his brain would even register it, that it wouldn't vibrate in his throat.

But he was walking, in this silence not even hearing the sounds of his footsteps if his fotosteps would make sound in this black. It wasn't like he was even hitting ground, just stepping along an invisible path on a road that didn't exist yet perhaps was. Maybe this is how ghosts worked, how they walked. Just don't think about it, maybe. He just kept walking, he couldn't even hearing his heart beating against his chest. Maybe he was calm? How could he be calm in this place? He didn't know. Maybe just don't think. He kept on walking, like how that one guy in that terrible Wolverine: Origins movie was doing at the end. God that was a terrible movie. Really, don't think about it

Was he even heading some place? Sheldon didn't even know, and managed to pull his face into a frown. It was something different, his brain at least registered facial expressions, it didn't even register is there were blisters on his feet or aches in his legs. Couldn't stop him from walking, he didn't even want to look around. He doubted he'd see anything at all if he managed to muster movement other than his legs.

Was there a point to all this? The other dream - nightmare? - he had had not too many days ago seemed like it was trying to send him a message. All the rage, all the disappointment, all those images. Like a slideshow of his life. This was just nothing, black and silence. He liked those things. Didn't he? He could be happy in a place of nothing.

But could he really?

He now wasn't so sure. This aimless wandering, this endless walking, the path to no where in this pitch black darkness. And he couldn't really stop himself, just walking, just kept heading to a path to nowhere and he couldn't stop himself.

Perhaps that was the point, but just as his mind could find it it would slip away and he would repeat the same thought processes all over again. A cycle, so he would keep going and keep forgetting it but keep going.

[I have no idea what I was doing with this, I really just wrote xD;]

Lighting up the Night

. in which Sheldon encounters his first Negaverse Agent (a frilly one at that) and is rescued by Sailor Pomona.... and kind of the police.
PostPosted: Wed Apr 21, 2010 11:54 am

Solo [status: complete]

When Sheldon had been brought to the hospital by the police, he had been a little disoriented. But somewhere in the back of his mind he knew this wasn't going to go down well. He had been in the possession of an illegal drug, it still lingered on his breathe, and the fact that he had told Pomona to flee was not going to sit well with any authority figure. Such people as herself were deemed terrorists, he had told her to go - who knows if they had even heard him utter such words. True, a lie could have been conceived but Sheldon was really in no state to make up some simple tale of what happened.

Surprisingly enough, there had been very few questions when those two officers came around again after the doctors had done their initial checks of the boy, had given him pleasant drugs and wrapped parts of him like a mummy. There were basics inquiries, just to the point about why he was out and what had happened in simple details. Perhaps it was because there was so little to get out of the green haired boy as he was slowly feeling the effects of the drugs he was hooked up on, so the the two men thanked Sheldon for his answers and left. Sheldon wasn't even sure if he had managed his own goodbye, 'cause as they were gone he was out like a light.

He had been woken up several times afterwards, his groggy mind only recalling the nurses checking his stats, busying with their work and then scurrying off to complete their rounds. It wasn't until he awoke on his own several hours later that the real problem came at him like a charging bull. His mother had been called and she was frantic. Which was probably putting it lightly; she was a mess. She was livid and grateful at the same time. Yelled at him even with a smile on her face and even broke down into tears. There was even a hug, which he was surprised wasn't proceeding or being followed by a slap in the face. Then she started yelling at him again for his uncalled for behavior, the nerve of him breaking curfew and making her worry when she got a call he was in the hospital!.

It took some time for Beverly to calm down and to finally wind down from her near bi-polar mood swings, and to also just stop yelling at him. She was now sitting by his bed, her hand with a death grip on his own as calm as a cucumber. This also apparently gave him a chance to get some answers. Apparently the police had other problems on their hands than a beat up stoner - she then scolded him again for that aspect, not pleased he was still using at least one form of drug. But give it to an epidemic in the city for not throwing him in jail; he was leaving with a warning though. And as such, he was most likely going to be released far too soon - in her opinion - due to the space needed to the victims of the city wide comas [his neighbor for one]. Her thin lips was in a frown the whole time she explained his condition; cracked ribs, a concussion and a slew of other bruises and cuts.

"I get there is a terrible thing going on, but it shouldn't mean you don't deserve to not be treated."

"It's fine, mom. I'll feel better resting at home anyways." Sheldon tried to reassure her. He really would feel better being in his apartment, it would be quiet and no one would be there, except Shawn... who would be bugging him regardless of his condition anyways. Perhaps he could even make Shawn do his errands ...

Beverly made a face, "Yes. Perhaps being home would be better than these ... depressing conditions," she replied in a hushed tone as to not offend the other visitors. Like that would help, most of them had witnessed her explosions from earlier. "I'll feel better knowing you're resting under my roof." She smiled and patted his leg gently.

"Wait..." What? No, "I meant-"

"Sheldon Hobbes, don't think you're just going to be going back to your apartment." Her voice raised, a few others turned to look at her with frowns, "No, you are coming home where I can watch you. That neighbor of yours will not be looking after my son."

"He wouldn't be."

"Regardless, he'd be a terrible influence." Beverly hissed.

"But..."

"Sheldon, no." She glared, that ultimate mom glare that was the ultimate 'my foot is down, my decision is made and that is what.' Sheldon shrank into the pillows of his hospital bed. Defeated like a small child.

He sighed and mumbled a 'fine.'

Dammit.
