A few of the occupants of the park were beginning to give him the evil eye, that special look that mothers - and now full-time babysitters - possessed when harm was in certain radius of their child and they needed it to go away now. That filthy habit and toxic air was within reach - not really - and it needed to go away now. Sheldon was unaware of such looks as he let out a slow drag of smoke, watching it weave into the air with half lidded eyes.
His attention was upward, in the cloudless sky. It was one of the nicer days he had seen in a while, the crisp winter air being tolerable for once. For weeks he'd been holed up in his box of an apartment, not that he usually minded but being outside was a nice change of pace. So, he had grabbed his shoes and pulled a sweatshirt - that didn't seem to smell bad or appear to have stains - over his OK Go tshirt and meandered outside to the nearby park ... which was across the street.
It was a quaint little park [some would argue it was just a patch of grass with some seats ... but it had a jungle gym and that had to count for something], one usually habituated by mothers on their breaks and baby-sitters who needed to get the energy out of their children so they could tire out for the day. Those, glaring, people were some ways off at the little jungle gym that sat in the corner surrounded by benches. Sheldon was currently sprawled over another bench some yards off, enjoying the cool air as his cigarette rested between two fingers.

Cassius was in the park because he was lost.
For someone who constantly traveled around at night and never got lost, he had stumbled into a place he'd never seen before. His first thought was, wow, look at all these mom's. Most of them were pretty hot. But then he was all 'bleech' at the screaming kids. Cassius didn't like kids. The reasoning was deep and stemmed from his emotional past, but either way he just didn't like them and cursed them for the time being. Plus they were distracting all of the hot mothers. His mind was so easily distracted.
When he saw someone his age and male sitting on a park bench, he couldn't help but stare from a distance for a moment. What was that dude doing? He looked incredibly comfortable but sort of spaced at the same time. Cassius bit his lip before considering breaking the other guy's relaxed state. He wasn't sure if it was a good idea. But then again, Cassius never did things that were good ideas.
He made his way over and couldn't help but notice how unique this guy's hair color was. Now that was not something you saw everyday. But his hair was also long just like his and that was another rare sight. Cassius liked to take in every detail about someone for personal reference and a learning tactic. He felt it was important to study things about someone before making initial contact.
"You look pretty comfortable." he was now standing next to the guy while looking ahead at all of the playing kids. "Does this park even have a name?" Or a street it was on? That probably gave away that he had no idea where he was. But it was also an excuse to talk. Cassius was a fan of those too.

At first it would have seemed that the green haired youth hadn't heard Cassius' observation nor his question. Sheldon didn't shift, blink or move in any way least in acknowledgment. His lips then pulled into a thin line, slightly out of irritation, and flicked the end of the filter with his thumb to knock the ashes from his cigarette.
He hummed at first, breaking his silence but didn't delve further to the blonde's obvious statement. Comfortable? Yeah, a little more mere seconds ago. His yellow gaze finally settled on the other guy, looking him over quickly just to make sure he actually wasn't carrying a gun or bat or something troublesome - with all those weird news reports going on, anything could happen. Figuring him harmless, especially with hair like that, Sheldon took in a small draw of his cigarette before responding. "Don't think it does, I wouldn't know it," He exhaled, being courteous enough to not blow his smoke in the other guy's face. "Just know its close ... and clean." Well, clean enough. The mother hens made sure of it at least.

In truth Cassius was a bit surprised to hear this guy answer him so honestly and politely. He was expecting a snarky comment that was so obviously seen from men their age. A sort of unfriendly demeanor that Casisus noticed so often from other guys and especially girls. But not today. Today this fellow before him was completely relaxed. And in truth Cassius wanted to be in the exact state of mind that this guy was.
At first his 'being lost' thing was distracting him from doing what he liked doing best- nothing. Here was the perfect opportunity to sort of copy this other lad and space out in the best sort of way. Cassius was very good at wasting time especially if it involved sitting around or sleeping.
"Do you mind if I take a seat?" Cassius had already made his way over to the other side of the bench, wondering if the other guy would allow him to sit too. "This looks comfortable and I like comfortable." Plus, he wasn't in the mood to use all of his effort to find a way outta this place. If he made his way back to the city streets he'd probably see people he knew, and that would just be exhausting.
But here, he could just sit and be at peace.

"Not at all," Sheldon replied as a small friendly smile graced his face. The guy was already half way in the seat anyway, what was to stop him? Not like it was taking up the whole thing anyways, didn't even need to move over which was a good sign, he was comfortable. "It is a public bench ~" He added, flicking the last bit of ash off before crushing the filter into the ashtray slash trashcan situated next to his side of the bench.
The green haired youth stole another glance at Cassius as the other sat down on the opposite end, wondering quietly if he expected a response to his statement. Sheldon wasn't really one for engaging in length conversations, he could talk and be civil sure but only when really necessary and quick one-liners confirming the comforts of a public park bench didn't seem needed. A nod and another hum was all Cassius would get as Sheldon leaned forward in his seat, lighting another cigarette that he had pulled out from his sweatshirt pocket.

Cassius didn't mind the brief silence for the time being. But unfortunately for Sheldon's sake, Cassius was a talker in general. Or perhaps that was a good thing considering the situation? Others could never tell why Cassius talked to strangers so openly. His father always predicted that his son just liked to hear himself speak. That was most likely true. Cassius also enjoyed the thrill of meeting someone new, especially when they weren't unfriendly to be around. He was trying to meet more guys anyways, and this dude looked around his age.
"What cigarettes are you smoking?" He felt a familiarity with the scent in the air. They didn't smell too bad at all compared to most these days. He then leaned back and burrowed his body into the seat even more. "Do you live around this area? Hope you don't mind me asking." He felt like the opportunity had opened itself up, since Sheldon was leaning forward all preoccupied with his cigarette. Cassius wished he was wearing a sweatshirt- since unfortunately he was in a black blazer and dark jeans from earlier in the morning. He wasn't even sure why he had dressed up in the first place, since his teacher gave him a hard time either way.
As if dressing up would get him off the hook. He wished the world was that simple.

Sheldon ... was not so thrilled at the growing conversation. It wasn't visible in his mannerisms or body language, the lax slump of his shoulders and the remaining smile that always seemed plastered on his face even through rough moments. He casually leaned back against the back of the bench once his cigarette was lit to his satisfaction and slowly released the smoke he had held in his lungs in small rings.
"... I'm honestly not sure," Sheldon replied, his smile flipping to a quizzical frown as he fingered the stick between his fingers. "Just got this brand in at work, so I thought I'd try it. It was a little more expensive than most of the others... nice though." Well, he could just reach into his pocket and pull the box out. But that was in his pocket .. and he had found a nice position of sitting and didn't want to adjust too much and come out of it.
He took in a long drag before answering Cassius' next inquiry, "I live in that building," pointing to a modest looking six story rust painted apartment complex across the street. See? Close, coming to this park was awesome. "You?" This time with the question.

Cassius was quiet as Sheldon spoke, listening in on the details that were given to him. So this other guy had a job, then? "Where do you work at?" This guy didn't seem familiar although Cassius was usually out and about buying things all over. Cassius was sure he'd recognize someone with that hair color if he'd seen him before at a store or something. He may have been self-involved but he was always keen on recognizing people and had a good memory. He supposed he really hadn't seen Sheldon before as of yet.
When the apartment was pointed at, Cassius let out a lazy "Ohhhh" at the convenience of how close it was. "Well that works out nice. Do you live there alone or with family?" Cassius was dying to move out. There was nothing actually keeping him at home besides sheer laziness. Cassius could afford it if he wanted too he just wasn't prioritizing his time at all. He would move out eventually but he was hopeful that the right place would appear and everything would just happen for him. As it usually did.
"Unfortunately I live with my dad, and we live sorta on the other side of town." It was no surprise he was lost at the moment- it had been awhile since he'd wandered around every part of the area. He sighed lightly while thinking about his living situation once again. "I gotta move out soon, with this Sovereign Heights stuff going on." But in truth, his father was never at home so it was as if the whole place was to himself. A hard incentive to leave! But really, it was time for him to grow up already.
"Oh, I'm Cassius by the way. Cassius James." he realized they hadn't exchanged names yet, even if the circumstances were a bit random. "I hope I'm not disturbing your break too badly." He most likely was, since now it made sense why this guy came outside from his apartment. But hey, it was always worth a shot.

So, this was where answers and a single worded question got you. A full blown conversation complete with some back-story. Sheldon let out a little sigh, shifting in his position. Oh, he could easily just get up, walk away before any more personal information was divulged, but that would require.. getting up and he was in no means wanting to go back into the Box. Aa well, he brought this upon himself.
"A small convenience store a few blocks down," Small as in the type that mostly only those that lived close actually went into it, which made work nice and easy. Cassius, being from the other side of town would probably not know it so why expand on the subject? Sheldon took in another puff and exhaled the smoke out of his nose. He took a quick glance at the remains of his cigarette and simply put that one out as well. The remaining quantity of the box was a little low, and given as how this was now '20 Questions with Sheldon Hobbes,' he was not going anywhere soon and didn't want to waste the rest. He leaned further, sliding a little down the bench, back cracking a little as he went. That felt nice.
"I'm all alone in my little box of an apartment," He explained, oddly with a little hint of pride in his tone even though his situation was anything but. "You really couldn't fit anyone else in there," not like he would want to.
"And you're not disturbing anything," human contact was good from time to time... as he was told. "I'm Sheldon Hobbes." We're going to probably be seeing each other at school, was what was not said, least let that come to pass on its own; who knows what their schedules would be like.

So Sheldon worked and lived on his own? That was commendable indeed, seeing as most people in the city did quite the opposite. Including himself. "An apartment is very good thing to have and there is a lot to be proud of there." Apartments might have been the one thing where size didn't matter- even if Sheldon called it his box. Sheldon hopefully threw parties every once in awhile since he had the privacy of his own space. Plus girls always liked it when guys had their own places. That was one other incentive to add on to his 'list of reasons' to move out.
Cassius then took out a packet of gum and grabbed himself a minty piece. He would have offered one to Sheldon but since he was in the middle of a cig Cassius knew it was most likely unnecessary. "If you want one let me know, I got plenty." he then added while stuffing the pieces back into his pocket. Mm, gum.
"So what kinds of things do you like doing for fun around here?" Cassius liked to believe that a lot could be said about someone's personal tastes. Right now all he could tell from Sheldon is that he was very independent and liked cigarettes a lot. He also didn't seem particularly curious about Cassius in general. Was he shy or uninterested? Even if Sheldon said that Cassius wasn't a bother, it was hard for him to believe otherwise. Cassius was used to being bothersome in general when it came to most conversations he created.
"You seem like a pretty cool guy so I am curious." Was it obvious that Cassius was trying too hard? He really could never tell since the words were genuine. For him girls were so much easier to communicate with then guys, although most guys would disagree with him on that one.

Cassius would probably be deeply disappointed to learn that Sheldon had never thrown a party - well, birthday parties when he was younger didn't count, that's when he was sociable and like six - nor had much of anyone over except one of his neighbors, who so happened to be his marijuana dealer. Not to mention, his apartment was paid for by his parents; a sort of leash they had on him along with school.
He waved his hand at the gum, "I've never been much for gum," it hurt his jaw, "thanks though.."
But hm. Fun, Sheldon's mouth pushed together tightly as he actually tried to put some thought into that one. What did he do besides nothing? "I don't really do much to be honest," He replied after a minute, drumming his fingers together on his lap. "Work, school .. sitting, really." Like they were doing now. "I'm sure you have a lot more going on with you than I could say for myself." He replied, smile returning to his face as his eyes closed slightly in contentment.

If Cassius' would have known Sheldon never threw a party he would have happily helped him throw one at any point in the future. Parties were a good excuse to invite lots of females over. It also usually resulted in lots of free alcohol. Cassius liked these odds. Plus he just liked being in control of a situation like that.
Cassius was surprised to hear Sheldon's response to what he did for fun. He thought quite oppositely considering his friendly personality, but maybe Sheldon just wasn't a fan of doing too much. Cassius could relate to that. "There's lots of fun things to do especially later at night. There's a pretty solid gambling community around here as well." Cassius knew most weren't into those kinds of activities anyways, but it was worth a shot throwing it out there. "I think my most favorite thing ever is just sleeping though, so I can't argue with you there." Sometimes doing nothing was the best way to spend his time. And Cassius really slept a lot.
"What school do you attend? And please, trust me, I don't do that much either. I just spend most of my time up late at night and sleep through every morning." And afternoon... but he had to pretend he wasn't a bum or something. "Sucks when I have morning classes, I usually have to make them all up in the afternoons and be a slave to the teachers. I am lucky they put up with me." No seriously, he was!

A night life was something Sheldon did not possess, nor really a social life as it was. He might have when he was in high school, but he had burned most of those memories away in loo of this new laid back Sheldon for some years now. Probably the only things he did at night were working, getting games or playing them ... and sleep. A creature of activity, Sheldon was not and he had to give Cassius kudo points for his favorite thing being sleeping. Sheldon too enjoyed slumbering, even near sleep when your eyes might be open slightly but your brain is certainly not functioning.
"Never tried gambling," He admitted, his hands still drumming together as they had nothing else to do. Well, some side quests, which he rarely did in games, had a form of gambling but probably not what the blonde was referring to. "I didn't think this city had anything like that, given the nice upbeat name it has." Though, some could have the destiny of striking it rich between losing all their savings.
"I go to Sovereign Heights," He had avoided making a comment of his attendance there after hearing Cassius remark that he too went to that college prep school. The blonde knew where Sheldon worked, kind of, knew where he lived and would know where he went to school; that was too much knowledge for one person... that could almost mean they were on the road to friendship [!D:]. "Well, go is perhaps a strong word, I'm enrolled ... I barely go." He added, closing his eyes with his head resting against the top of the bench.

Cassius felt more comfortable asking Sheldon little tidbits about his life at this point in time. It almost appeared as if Sheldon was enjoying the conversation? Cassius knew that peaceful conversation could usually bring some good results. For example, Sheldon's comment about attending class was enough to make Cassius fall over in his chair. "What? I barely go too?" He looked at the other boy with a puzzled expression. "Everyone gives me crap about it. But I don't know, it takes so much effort to get there and only stay for an hour." Or even less sometimes! His bed was just always a better idea. Plus, he did deal with the consequences when the teachers demanded it, ugh.
"Heh, I pray you and I have some classes together so we can switch off who goes for notes." He chuckled lightly since it was an idea that Cassius had considered, but so far everyone he'd asked gave him scowls and lectures about what a bum he was. Sheldon on the other hand might have been interested. There were always ways to beat the system, and Cassius was determined to make life his own little game of enjoyment.
"The city has lots of sketchy things people don't know about, which is hilarious. Not to say it isn't a bad place or anything, but the nightlife is definitely one to be reckoned with." From what Cassius could tell, there were plenty of no-good delinquents wandering around through the wee hours of the night causing all kinds of problems. "Well, if you are ever interested in gambling I'm happy to show you how to play some games sometime." It felt weird to offer it, but Cassius did mean what he said. Because Sheldon's demeanor was so relaxed, Cassius found himself being equally relaxed. "And you never know, you may like some card games and win a few bets." He grinned at Sheldon before putting his head back on the bench's edge.
"You know, you're a pretty cool guy. I'll be thankful if I run into you on campus." Since most other people drove him crazy. Although, seeing as they both rarely went on campus...

"Haha... notes," Sheldon snorted, finding himself amused with the suggestion. Like he even took any himself, and not for laze sake ... he had a good reason: not needing to. When he actually attended class, he was able to retain what the teachers lectured on and on about, when not zoning out or napping. Still, the idea. Poor Cassius, would be shut out of putting the work on another sucker once again.
"Well, anyhow," Sheldon sighed almost happily as he pried himself out his oh so comfortable bench and stretched. Ow, crick, ow.. that really popped his spine, aa now that felt good. "I really should be going." He really didn't need to, but he felt it was time to before they started swapping way too many stories than needed. No work for hours, but there was at least some television shows that needed watching... and some walls to stare at. "If I'm feeling up to some night time activities," which he doubted, "perhaps I'll hit you up ~"
Sheldon then offered a short wave and a smile, "It was nice meeting you Cassius James, perhaps we'll cross paths again." Well, he kind of hopes not but he really didn't have that kind of control. Sigh.
