"She wouldn't think it was silly. She's big on knowledge and learning things, even small things, and stuff like that."
They were, after all, talking about the selfsame fox, who had stowed away on some little rowboat with a strange human, and then somehow gone from that to a floating-city-boat-thing, just to see what was there.
"No clue. Probably somewhere she hasn't been yet. Like I said, she's big on new stuff and whatnot."

Crys chuckled, smiling faintly as he spoke, "She sounds really nice. Really cool, actually. I like learning stuff,"
Now that he heard himself say it, it sounded dumber than dumb, but you can't unring a bell and whatnot.
"What about you? Would you do what she does?"

"Not that much." Aodh paused, realized that made absolutely no sense, and tried to explain.
"Seeing new places is fine and all, but it's pointless if you don't have places you already know, too. I'd rather explore my home than go wander all over the place and not have a home at all."
He thought it was a bit weird that Crys sided with his mom on this one, rather than with Aodh. He'd gotten too used to Crys agreeing with everything he said, he guessed.

Crys nodded quickly, back to agreeing again, "No, I know, I totally get that. I like having a place that you can come home to after exploring or whatever," Crys said, nodding again. "Even if it's not a 'real' home, as long as it's the same all the time and you like it," Crys added, nodding matter of factly as he finished.

Aodh looked at his friend oddly.
"How wouldn't it be a 'real' home? If that's where you live all the time when you're not exploring, it's a home, and that's it."
He glanced back up the path. It looked like they were pretty near the top now, but still had a little bit to go. They could probably reach the top by night, but they'd have to pick up the pace a bit.

"I didn't mean allllll the time you would live there. Like...like if you found a cave in the woods and slept there for a few nights, then continued on and get a new cave or something. A temporary home." Crys tried to explain, then shook his head. "Nevermind, forget I said anything," Crys shook his head again.
"Shouldn't be too much longer, huh?"

Oh. Well, that made some more sense, anyway.
"Temporary homes should be temporary," Aodh said, and realized just how stupid that sounded as soon as he said it.
"If you want to wander around away from home now and then, then that's one thing. But you should have a real home, too."
He might look more like Mom, but in personality he definitely took more after Mother.
"Yeah, by nightfall," Aodh agreed.

"I think so too!" Crys agreed, glad at least some point of his garbled explanation had come across as planned.
"What are we gonna do when we're up there?"

And now maybe Aodh didn't get it, because he'd thought Crys was all for all temporary homes, all the time.
Whatever. He was pretty sure he got it now, so that was fine. He was glad they were back to agreeing about things, too.
"Look at the view, stare at the stars," again, as soon as he said it, Aodh realized just how stupid that sounded, so he quickly added, "whatever we want to do," so he could at least pretend he wasn't a complete moron.
No, now he only sounded like half of one.

Crys smiled at stars bit; he was happy they were agreeing too.
"That sounds like fun, really." Crys smiled up at him. "I haven't looked at the stars in foreeeever, not with bein' in the city and stuff." Crys said, his tail wagging behind him happily.
"We should stay up there a while."

"They're stars. They don't change." He actually didn't even know what had gotten into him, to suggest stargazing. But if Crys wanted to, Aodh didn't really mind.
" 'Course we're gonna stay up there a while, after how long it took us to get here."
And here they were, at the very top of the mountain, with the sun only just peeking over the horizon in the west. To the east, the stars were perfectly clear, fading out more the closer they got to the sun.

Crys looked around, his smile widening slowly. It was...wow. It was better than he thought it would be, tenfold. Beautiful. He felt like he could see the whole world, like it went on forever.
"Woah." Crys breathed lamely. "Wooaah." Crys spun in a slow circle, looking all around.
"This is awesome, Aodh."

Aodh shrugged. Maybe the view was a bit better than what he got from flying, but not by all that much.
He settled himself down on the plateau on top of the mountain, and watched Crys with amusement. He supposed it was different, if you were stuck on the ground your whole life.
He watched the last of the stars come out, as the sun finally left the sky. Nothing new here, either. Maybe he spent more time in the forest, where the stars were covered, but that didn't mean he hadn't seen a full sky of stars before, either.
"So, there ya go. Stars." Aodh said, sounding almost bored, as he presented the night sky full of stars to Crys.

"Awn c'mon, they're pretty," Crys said with a laugh, going back over to Aodh. "I like them,"
Sure, he'd seen stars before, but never from a mountain. They looked closer, which made them prettier, to him.
"Did you know the humans give names to the stars?" Crys chuffed. "They have to name everything."

"Groups of stars, too. There's Orion," he said, gesturing east, "and Perseus," more upward, "and Pegasus is over there," to the west.
Just because he wasn't that interested in the stars, didn't mean he didn't know them. Oh no, Mom had been real big on that. On them learning their manners, learning a bit about everything that was needed to be able to survive on their own, and wander. So, learning all about the stars and how to tell directions with them it was.
