I was only first chair for a week in eighth grade. *-*
Though in seventh grade we had challenges and I tied with one kid twice, and it would have been a THIRD tie if he hadnt said something and given away that it was him. =P

What does it mean "1st chair"
I'm guessing it means sitting on the end?
I'd probably be first chair then, (I'm SL, so I think I am)
Although the BD moved me into the middle of my section because most of them needed serious practicing, and she wanted me to be in between everyone, so I could keep them together. razz

Band chairs work in mysterious ways...actually not that mysterious. BD's favortie or the older more experienced automatically get first and second.. im lucky enough to be a newcomer to the school and get 3rd chair flute XD

Trumpet, first chair. Can't really complain about my BD's choice, I am, after all, the best. ;D (Yes, I fully promote the stereotype of the egotistical trumpet player. But, is it really ego if it's true?)

I played first chair alto sax for 3 years. 6th to 8th grade. (It doesn't help that I was THE ONLY alto in my school...) And then, when i went into high school band, the only other altos were seniors. So I'm 3rd chair. (It's so weird to be playing second alto part...). I've also tried out for Region Band, and I made 2nd chair Region last year, and 1st chair County. This year, (horrible audition) like 6th chair region and 2nd chair county. Also in Jazz band, still 3rd chair, even though the girl in front of me as 2nd has only been playing alto for like 2 months. I don't think it's fair, cause she just up and took the spot. Didn't ask or anything. Pissed me off D:< Oh well.

That Girl is Odd first chair and sectionleader. biggrin (let me gloat, i worked for the position!) Same here! First chair flute, mostly because I'm the only one that plays all the time. We don't actually get tested for chairs, it's more like general consensus as to who has the most ability. And seniority. But I do have actual ability, I didn't just get the spot. :p
