I'm not as upset about racial issues as I am about how they look. I guess I did expect some dark skinned people for Katara and Sokka, along with Asian people for Zuko, Iroh, Ozai, etc. Instead, they've been switched! (Kinda. Last I heard, Jackson isn't Asian.) I just hope that all the guys can pull it off. We'll have to wait for summer 2010!

I dont know why everyone is freaking out about the cast. As long as they play the part good, they could all be green for what i care.

Did you ever hear about Jesse McCartney was supposed to be Zuko, so it has nothing to do with race. The only reason why he isn't now is because he decided to go on tour instead so Dev Patel is now.

Sigh @ this thread.
The kid playing Aang is a fantastic choice for Aang. Who cares if he's white? Aang doesn't look "Asian" to me in the show. He looks like a person, similar to the rest of the cast. This isn't the case of DBZ where it's a Japanese adaption. This is American. Race isn't that important. What matters is can they act, and do they look similar to the characters.
The choice for Aang is perfect, imo, because the kid is an actual martial artist who has great skill with the staff. He is also adorable, similarly to Aang. For Katara and Sokka, I'm not freaking out that they're not tan. They look good to me.
For Zuko: I don't think it's racist at all that they chose an Indian to play Zuko. He's a rival at first, but he eventually becomes a part of the Gaang. Not to mention he's a pretty great character overall.
I think that the people freaking out over the races of the cast are more racist than the people who casted them.

They should have casted better by watching the show not just random people

Desmond Belmont They should have casted better by watching the show not just random people They did. They tried to do that, anyway. Like I said, a live action adaption is a ******** fail idea.

Desmond Belmont They should have casted better by watching the show not just random people They don't cast by random people. They cast by how well a person acts. If they act better than the majority, or have more experience on their resumes, that sort of stuff, they cast them. They look for people with experience and talent, and people they think could pull it off in a believable manner.

Actually, the kid that plays Aang is Asian. The make-up they used on him made him look whiter than he was, and he was just a light-skinned Asian. I'm pretty sure he has Caucasian somewhere down the line. I'm pretty sure the producer and director didn't mean for the bad guys to be Indian, as M. Night is Indian himself. (I think) and and and.... I hate it when people do rants on this without knowing the acting business. The producer has little (in most cases) to do with the casting. The casting director does all of the casting. And after extensive protesting by fans, they started to cast Asians. Since they're on a tight schedule, and all their original ideas, I'm pretty sure, for actors were thrown away because of fan protests, I'm pretty sure they just went and got some talented Asian actors that just happened to be Indian (India is part of Asia, and there are some Indian culture references in avatar, but not much.) Suki, I believe is in fact played by a (non-Indian) woman (Pic)From what I've heard, if the movie is successful they'll do book 2 with an all Asian cast. (aside from Sokka and Katara of course, as they might be recast into it.) And as I said before, they didn't cast by just random people. They took the people that had the best resume and what they saw as good acting, and casted them.

Don't mess with me.

The audition was the first time the guy playing Aang had ever even acted. I remain skeptical about the whole "they are da best acters" thing.
