"It's a boy." Joshua was there to keep his 'aunt' company while his mother was busy thinking of ways for Risa and her crush to meet up. Thali was determined to help them along. Of course, Risa knew nothing of this. Josh planned to keep it that way. He knew what fae could do when angered.

When the child had caught sight of the cabbage, and asked Risa what she thought it would be, she could only respond with the typical 'We'll see when the time comes.' She watched as her nephew frowned, seemed to focus and stare at the cabbage.

"It's obviously a boy, auntie. Can't you tell?" He asked with a tilt of his head and a frown. He could easily tell that the child within was male. Why couldn't she?

Risa could only shake her head. How could this child tell? She saw an ordinary though overgrown cabbage, with no especial scent. Maybe it was wishful thinking. Yeah, that was it. Joshua had just gotten two baby sisters, maybe he had decided he didn't want anymore female relatives.

"You never know Josh, it could be a girl." She said cheerfully. She was surpised when the boy shook his head.

"He's a boy." He said firmly. "It's just like when I told mom the twins would be girls. And they are." Risa opened her mouth to argue, to say that it had been a lucky guess. That was before she remembered something Ben had mentioned a few weeks before. He had confessed that he didn't believe that his oldest was quite.. what was the word he used for it? Normal?

Now Risa knew why he'd said that. Josh, was not, in any sense of the word, normal.

It was Easter morning (Not that Risa paid attention to Christian holidays.) when Risa awoke to find that something strange was starting to happen. She had fallen asleep reading to the cabbage, of all things. More recently she had been using it as an outlet because she really was, just a lonely fae.

She sat up reluctantly, and stretched. Her eyes flickered open, and she carefully hid her yawn with a hand. Her eyes quickly fell to the coffee table in habit, the blue green orbs widened in surprise. The cabbage was wilting! Was it something she'd done? Or forgotten to do? How had she messed up? She'd followed Thali's instructions like one keeps to the Bible. ..But no. She had been told to watch for something like this. It was.. Opening? Hadn't Ben said something like this would happen? She stared as the leaves continued to fold back until they revealed an infant.

An infant! She picked the small child up from his cabbage bed, and held him close to her chest. He was the size of an average one year old, his checkered cape wrapped around him like a blanket. His hat covered most of his strawberry blonde hair--his eyes were shut tight. He was sleeping soundly.

Risa smiled, and leaned back against the couch. This was one gift she'd always remember. Thali had given her life, and now she'd given her a child. The fae knew there was no way she could repay her. That didn't mean she wouldn't try.

Oh yes, she would try. The princess had granted her a son in her time of need. A son. And Risa was determined that they'd be just as good of a mother son duo as Thali and Josh were.

RP In progress.
As usual, I'm in black, Marina is in green.

Quote:
Vate had taken hold of Risa's jacket sleeve. "Come on, we're leaving." He muttered. Risa frowned at him, she'd never liked being drug around. The dark elf caught her look and grinned. "Trust me. This is for your own good." He said. He took her to the Peaceful Kitchen, where his long-time (well, not really long time, but it was getting there) girlfriend worked.

Risa wasn't so sure. "Are we meeting Stasia?" She asked, looking at the restaurant. Vate just grinned, and led her inside.

"You'll see." He muttered. "It's about time you guys get to know each other." If only Risa had known what he'd meant..

Matthias was all but trapped in the booth, stuck on the inside with Stasia sitting next to him, refusing to budge.

"Anastasia, this is highly unorthodox! Let me go this instant! I need to care for my b-"

"Psh, relax, Pixie-boy. Aife's in good hands. You'll thank me later, and you know it." The halfling teen gave him a bright smile before looking over to the door, waving to Vate and Risa.

Matth muttered darkly, putting his head down on the table. He was SO going to get the half-elf later for this...

Vate smiled at Stasia, before pushing Risa into the booth. Now the fae was across from Matth. Vate quickly sat down next to her. "Don't try to escape." He muttered. "This is for your own good."

Risa groaned inwardly as she set eyes on Matth. She instantly knew what the two had in mind. How many times did she have to tell Vate that Matth wasn't interested? "Hi, Stasia." She said, looking at the half elf. "Hi Matth." Her eyes veered away from the fae. She didn't want him to know that she liked him. She'd already been rejected once.

Stasia smiled at Risa, nodding once. "Hey Risa. Hey Vate." She was grinning from ear to ear; sure, sure, she was helping Matth....but it'd still be fun to watch him squirm.

Matth offered a polite, cordial smile. "Hello, Risa." he said, his tone friendly. "Were you dragged here to?" She didn't look to happy to be here; frankly, he didn't blame her. She had better things to do than be stuck here on some forced date.

Vate couldn't help grinning. He knew how much Risa secretly wanted this. You'd think the fae would show some thanks, but no. "Nah, she really wants to be here. She hasn't stopped talking about you since the bonfire." Vate pointed out. The glare he recieved was reward enough. He grinned.

"Yeah." Risa said with a nod. "Apparently they want us to get to know each other or something."

Vate rolled his eyes and looked at Stasia. "You'd think we were holding them at the stake." He murmured with a grin. "Thali'll be happy."

Matth arched an eyebrow. "She has? Hm." He seemed calm, but if you'd known him long enough, you'd know that the gears were turning behind that facade.

"I see....well, it appears that we have no choice in the matter." he said, shrugging once.

Stasia giggled. "I'm sure she will be." she said, sipping on the soda she'd nabbed when they got there. "This'll be entertaining, that's for sure."

Vate nodded at Matth. "She really has." Promptly, he switched to his well practiced imitation of Ris's voice. 'How's Matth? Have you seen him lately? Oh, is Aife feeling better? I heard she was sick and I'm ever so worried.' "

Risa sent another glare at the dark elf. "I do not sound like that." She said, her voice losing all traces of warmth. Vate knew it was time to stop teasing. He'd only seen her angry once, and that had been enough. She looked over at Matth, and her eyes softened. "Now that he mentions it, is Aife feeling better?" She asked.

Matth chuckled. "Aife's doing fine. She's finally getting over her cold; poor little thing. With the way she acted....I don't think she's been sick before." He was kind of shocked; he hadn't expected Risa to take an interest in his daughter's well being. Hm.

Stasia giggled at the immitation, unphased by Risa's tone. "I dunno, Ri-Ri....sounds a lot like ya to me." she said, not getting the hint that it was time to stop.

Risa looked relieved. "I'm glad she's doing better." She said. "I know what it's like, being worried about someone." She nodded at Matth, before turning to glare at Stasia.

"It does not." She said in a flat tone. Vate looked from Risa to Stasia, and shook his head.

"Don't." He warned. "Seriously. Seelie. Mad. Equals extremely bad." He sounded frightened. "Let's just let them have their date, and go our seperate ways, okay?"

Stasia sighed, getting up. "Fine." she said, shrugging. she headed to the door, pausing to look at Risa. "Risa, that so totally sounds like you." she said, offering a grin and a laugh before heading out the front door, thoroughly amused.

Matth shook his head; stupid child....

Risa shot one last glare at Stasia, before her eyes landed on Vate. The poor dark elf flinched and practically ran out of the building. "I'm serious, Stasia." He muttered. "You really don't want to make her mad."

Risa sighed, and looked at Matth. "They've been teasing me all week." She muttered. "So.. You want something to drink? You probably don't want to eat anything."

Stasia snickered. "Psh. I'm not worried." she said, waving her hand. She'd seen Matth mad; anything compared to that was a walk in the park.

Matth held up his cup. "I already have something to drink. And I may get something to eat; I didn't have breakfast this morning, so I am a bit hungry." he said. He then paused. "Why have they been teasing you?"

Vate frowned. "I've only seen her mad once." He said, looking back and making sure Risa wasn't behind them. "I never want to see her like that again--and I probably won't survive if I do." He paused. "You want to hang around here, or go somewhere else?" He asked.

Risa shrugged. "I don't know. Because they think I like you or something? Vate seems to think I spend every waking moment thinking about you. I don't know what their problem is..." She looked at him, and blushed. "I didn't think you ate much. Do you want me to get you something?"

Stasia rolled her eyes, sure that Vate was exaggerating. How could little old Risa possibly be that much of a threat? "We could always head back to my place." Stasia said, smiling. "They kids are off visiting Grandpa for the weekend."

"I'm known to eat every now and then." Matth said, chuckling at her reason. "And that's fine; I can pay our way this time." That was only fair, after all.

Vate nodded. "Sure. I have something to give you when we get there." He said, his grin returning. "But I can't give it to you until then." The dark elf seemed to have recovered from the scare with Risa.

Risa nodded. "If you want to." She said with a shrug. If paying made him happy, she would let him. She picked up the menu. "What would you like?" She asked.

Stasia grinned. "Alright." she said, wondering what had to wait till they got to her house. She made her way to her black SUV, climbing into the driver's seat. "Need a lift?" She asked, almost forgetting that Vate might not have driven there like she did.

Matthias nodded once; after all, paying for the meal was only polite. After all, she'd bought him bread sticks at the mall, so he was repaying the favor. "I think I'll get the home-style chicken platter. And you?"

"Sure." Vate said, he'd been planning on walking to Stasia's, but this way was quicker. Sure, he had less time to think about what he was going to say when he gave said 'present' to her, but he thought he had it all figured out. If he didn't freeze and stammer.

Risa looked up and down the menu. "Italian spaghetti sounds good." She said, looking over at Matth from the top of the menu and smiling. "Want anything to drink?" She asked. "I'll pay for them, if you want."

Stasia waited for him to get in before pulling out of the parking lot. "So, wanna give me a hint about what this super-secret gift is?" she asked, looking over at him.

Matthias nodded once, offering a small smile as he took note of what she wanted. "I already have a drink, thank you. But, if you want one, I could get one for you."

"It's a surprise." Vate told her with a grin. "I'll tell you when we get there." He didn't want to spoil it, if he told her now, what if she said no? He'd never forgive himself. Because 'no' meant he'd messed the proposal up. If he did it just right, she'd say yes.

"Oh, I'm fine with water." Risa said, setting the menu down on the table. "I'm sorry about those two." She muttered. "I know you weren't planning on going on a date with me."

Stasia smiled. "Oh, fine then." she said, rolling her eyes. The ride to her house didn't take more than five, maybe ten minutes. She pulled into the driveway, narrowly missing the mailbox.

Matth nodded, waving over a waitress to order. "Oh, it's fine....I'm used to forced dates, anyhow." he said, chuckling at some of Stasia's past attempts.

Vate got out of the car, and handed Stasia a small box. His tongue seemed to be glued to the roof of his mouth, he couldn't say anything. He gulped. "....It's for you." He managed. He frowned, he knew he'd failed. That hadn't gone anything like he'd planned.

"I've never been on one." Risa admitted. "Forced or otherwise. No one's ever been interested." She shrugged. "I think it's because I'm too nice--or I come off as annoying."

Stasia blinked as she was handed a....oh no, he wasn't, was he? She opened the box and, sure enough.... "Oh, Vate, it's beautiful...." she said, smiling slightly. Yes, it was pretty, but....they hadn't been dating that long. And she wasn't entirely sure if she wanted this to be a serious relationship quite yet. "Um....I think we're, ah.....shouldn't we slow down a bit?" That was not as gracefully-said as she would have liked.

Matthias kept his comments to himself. "I'm sure there have been people interested. They may have just been afraid to say anything." he commented. No one interested in her? He highly doubted that.

[Vate merely nodded. He couldn't bring himself to say anything, he was so disappointed. "Slow down, sure." He said. Was that a no? He hoped not. He thought they worked together well. "Sure. We can do that." He said. "Keep the ring though." He paused. "It's a gift."

Risa shook her head. "I'm not really the type that attracts the interest of others." She said. "I don't stand out. Not like you do." She shrugged. "But if anyone was afraid to tell me how they felt, I might tell them that I'm willing to listen." The fae's eyes never left Matth's face, she was certain she'd catch a sign of something. There had to be one.

Stasia felt kind of bad; she could read the disappointment on Vate's face. "You sure?" she said, feeling a bit more than awkward. Okay, serious relationships were a WHOLE new territory for her; she had no idea what to do.

Matthias chuckled. "Me? Attract attention? I highly doubt that." he said, shaking his head. If he did, he didn't mean to; he usually tried to blend in with the crowd. He blinked at her last statement....was she trying to say....? Him, afraid. What a laugh.

Vate looked at Stasia, and nodded. "Sure." He said. "I can wait." He could. He'd waited this long, he could wait longer. "I'll wait until every star falls from the sky, if I have to." He couldn't help feeling a little down, but he would hide that with words. He'd always been good at that.

Risa just smiled. "Well, you've got my attention." She admitted. "That's not saying much-- I suppose it's fairly easy to catch mine."

Stasia smiled lightly. Yeah, that last line was corny, but it was cute. She leaned in, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks for understanding, Vate." she said, smiling up at him.

Matthias arched an eyebrow. "Oh really?" he said, looking at her. He looked intrigued, almost. As if she'd finally said something interesting.

Vate blinked at her, and tried to hide his blush. He failed. "I can wait." He repeated. "But next time--be ready." He grinned. "Next time, I won't mess up."

Risa blushed, why did he look so interested? It wasn't like she'd started a conversation about magic, or art. Or even something remotely interesting. "Yeah." She said finally. "That's why everyone's been teasing me."

Stasia blinked. "What do you mean mess up? That was a pretty good proposal as far as I'm concerned." Then again, she wasn't really a good judge of that, anyways.

Matthias looked amused at the blush. "Don't see why'd they tease you over such a thing." he said, shrugging. "Isn't any of their concern." He looked up as their food was delivered, thanking the waiter quietly.

"But it wasn't good enough." Vate said, with a frown. "I had it all planned out--what I would say and everything. I just froze." He sighed. "So next time, I'll do better."

Risa smiled at the waiter, before looking back at Matth. "Thali likes to play match maker." She muttered. "She thinks because I like you, you should like me too. Most elves have some kind of romantic disorder--I know Vate does. He can't say anything even remotely romantic without sounding corny."

Stasia smiled at him, giving the frowning dark elf a hug. "I think you did just fine." she said, pulling back to look at him face-to-face. "Besides, it would have been boring if it was too planned, y'know?"

Matthias shook his head, suddenly serious. "You probably wouldn't like me as much if you got to really know me." he said calmly, cutting his chicken apart as he spoke.

Vate returned the hug, a smile spreading across his face. "Think so?" He asked. "Well then. Maybe I'll mess up again."

Risa shrugged, before taking a bite of spaghetti. "I've always liked your kind." She said. "They've always fascinated me, it's probably because of my background and--" She paused. "What isn't there to like?"

Stasia smiled, nodding. "Yeah. Besides, you didn't mess up as far as I'm concerned." she said, glad to see him smiling again.

Matth finished a bite of chicken before speaking. "Kind?" he asked, arching an eyebrow. Just what was she getting at? He ate more of his food, waiting for her response.

Risa had most become interested in the movie known as Startrek. Specifically, Spock. When she had told Ben, he'd been surprised. What interest did a fae have in a remake of an old television program?

When he asked, Risa just grinned at him. "I remember when the originals were being made." She said. Wait, what? Oh, right. Even after months of knowing her, Ben still found it hard to believe she was as old she claimed. But then, she was fae. In Risa's case, this meant looking nineteen when in reality she was over six hundred.

"So what's got you interested in Spock?" Ben asked, curious. Risa's grin grew, a sure sign that she wasn't going to tell him.

"Oh, he reminds me of a friend." She said vaguely. Ben was not used to talking to Fae. Elves were easier to read--they either said yes when they meant no, or were blunt to a fault. Not to mention vain. But that was another story.

"What friend?" Ben asked. He hadn't thought Risa knew very many people. She typically hung around Thali or Vate.

The fae just smiled and shook her head. Ben thought about it. Who had she met recently? A mental image of a man in severe need of a haircut popped into his head. He put a name to the image. "Matthias. The fae Thali was so interested in."

As expected, Risa made no response. Instead, she went into the hall and picked up Miles. The toddler had clearly been eavesdropping. "Who Matth?" He asked.

The fae looked from her son, to Ben. "The fae your wife's been trying to hook me up with since the trip at the mall." She said, with a sheepish grin. "Don't worry, I'm sure he's not interested." She knew how Ben mistrusted those men with longer hair. It amused her.

"You like him." Miles put in, blunt as ever.

"Well, yes." Risa admitted. "He's a friend." Hiding emotions wasn't the easiest thing to do when you had a toddler in the house.

"Not like that." Miles was quick to correct his mother. "You like him like Uncla Ben like Thali. Or like Uncla Vate like Zemel's mommy."

The fae looked at Ben, as if daring him to repeat what he had just heard. The man knew better than to intentionally anger a fae. But... He couldn't resist. "Thali'll be happy." He teased.

Risa glared. "You tell her, and I will personally make sure that you happen to be the next 'thing' Sammi sets on fire."

Ben was silent for a long time. He had heard that Risa had a nasty temper, despite her always appearing gentle. She looked anything but. "I won't tell." He promised.

Almost instantly, Risa's anger seemed to vanish. "Good." She said. "I would hate to explain to the Princess that--"

"Not supposed to talk about that in front of me." Miles finished.

"A kitten? Really?" Miles had consistantly bothered his mother for a pet for around a week. And Risa, always one to want to make people happy, had finally agreed.

"Really." Risa said with a nod. She handed the toddler a small, blue kitten. It curled into a ball on his lap and purred. "Her name's Sora." The fae said with a smile. "I have another surprise for you, tomorrow." She added, teasingly. "You'll have to wait and see."

"Sora." Miles repeated. "Nice name." Risa got the feeling he was talking to the kitten rather than to her. "Thank you," He added, looking up at her. He didn't have to say more, the fae could see the graditude in his eyes. Why he didn't go for his mother's teasing was beyond the fae.

She had guessed he'd been lonely. He'd needed a pet--that or a sibling. Risa wasn't planning on adopting another child until she was settled--meaning, until she had found 'Mr. Right'. She would set up playdates with Zemel--the boys really seemed to get along. And maybe Miles could get to know his cousins better.

Then, maybe he wouldn't be feeling the only child syndrome. He needed friends.

"But you said..." Miles said, staring in amazement. There was his mother, the fae who had vowed not to bring home another child until marriage, holding an infant. An infant, of all things; a green one. And a girl!

"I know what I said." Risa said with a slight frown. "But she needed us. And you need a sister." The fae said this with such conviction that the toddler didn't argue. He just nodded.

"She's diff-er-ent though." He said, peering curiously at the new baby. "Why's she green?" He asked. He'd never seen a green person before.

"Why do you have blonde hair?" Risa asked. "Why are my ears pointed? Everyone's different." She explained. "I suppose she's green because she was born that way. She can't help the way she is." She tapped the toddler on the nose. "Just like we can't help the way we are."

'But why's she green?' Miles couldn't help wondering. 'Green like a plant?' "Mom, where'd you get her anyway?" He asked, trying to sound both polite and interested.

"I don't know, exactly." Risa said, frowning slightly. "She was left on our doorstep. She needs us. So she's staying."

She needs us. Miles looked at the infant again. She was different, but his mom was right. She needed them. Whatever color she was, she was an infant. And being green made you pretty cool--right?

At least, it made you magical. Or an alien.

Risa shrugged again. "Unseelie." She provided. "I gathered that you were fae, otherwise Thali wouldn't have paid you so much attention. She's always been like that." She paused. "My mother was unseelie. The reason I have a temper."

"Not all unseelie have a temper, you know." Matth said calmly, looking amused. "You're rather perceptive, aren't you?" He took a couple bites of his food, already half-way done. "So, what do you know about my 'kind'?" he asked, his tone interested.

Risa shrugged. "I've never met one who didn't. Rather frightening, when angered." She said, before grinning. "I suppose that is what Vate thinks of me." She paused, and looked thoughtful. "I don't know about perceptive. I know Thali well--much easier to get along with than the rest of her family." Another pause. "I don't know much about your kind, persay. I have never met a fae quite like you. Never one that caught my interest."

Matth chuckled. Frightening; that was one way to put it, he supposed. "I take it that you frighten Vate?" He chuckled, amused at the thought. He listened to her politely, toying with the remainder of his food. "Ah...I see..." was all he managed to say in response.

"I did, once." Risa said, sounding rather regretful. "He's never really recovered. It's not very easy--frightening Averi's top assasin." She paused. "Tell me more about yourself."

Matthias paused. "Assassin....?" he asked, arching an eyebrow. That little elf, an assassin? Now that was laughable. He paused, then shrugged. "Not much to tell, really. I live over in Aekea, I like painting and writing, and I'm fond of literature."

"Yeah, the best." Risa said with a nod. "Surprising, I know. He's... what's the word, mellowed since he met Stasia." She paused and smiled. "Aekea?" She repeated. "I've never been there--never really been outside of Barton, until now. Oh, you write?" She asked, genuinely curious. "What do you like writing about?"

Matthias really doubted that, but he kept his mouth shut. "Aekea's a pretty interesting place; never a dull moment there." he said, smiling. "And yes, I write. I usually write historical fiction and poetry, with the occasional horror novel."

"I should visit sometime then--Barton's rather slow. Nothing interesting happens there. It's too bright." She said. "Horror novels are always interesting." She said with a smile and a nod. "I prefer fantasy myself. I don't seem to be able to write much else."

"I'm sure plenty of things happen there, if you scratch the surface." Matthias said. He didn't argue on the 'too bright' point, though; damnable sun. "Fantasy, eh? Hm. Never tried to write it myself, though it does make for interesting reading."

Risa shook her head. "Even the shop keepers are..what's the word? Boring. Rina's always wanting to pick flowers, and Ian's always talking about his cat." She smiled. "Maybe I'll let you read some of mine--if you like."

Matthias chuckled. "Perhaps, but they can still carry interesting conversations if you give them the chance." he countered. "That'd be nice. I'll let you read some of mine, if you wish to read them. They aren't published works or anything, though."

Risa shrugged. "Maybe I'm too judgemental. I always try to be kind, and listen. But unless I'm interested in what they're saying.. My eyes get all glossy, and I stare. Like Thali when she's doing math." She said, with a sheepish grin. "But yes, I'd love to see your work." She smiled. "Mine isn't up to publishing standards, either."

The dark-haired one chuckled, shaking his head. "Don't we all do that, though?" he pointed out. "Hm, we'll do a literature switch, then. That ought to be rather entertaining."

Risa gave another smile. "I suppose so." She said, taking a bite of pasta, and swallowing. "That'd be fun. Maybe you could come to my place, and we could do it there." She offered. "Maybe bring Aife along? I'm sure Miles would like to meet her."

Matthias thought a moment. "That would be nice." he said after a moment of thought. "Aife does need to meet more people....Miles is a friend of yours?" He had no idea that Risa had a child; none what so ever.

"I don't have many friends--Miles is my son." Risa said with a smile. "Thali sent me a cabbage, telling me to take care of it. She 'forgot' to mention that said cabbage held a child within it--I have to remember to thank her."
"I didn't know you had a son." Matth said, looking surprised. He then chuckled. "At least I warned Stasia when I gave her a cabbage." he said, chuckling at the memory.

Risa just smiled. "Eventually Ben told me, just before it opened. Thali'd been worried about me, seeing as I didn't know anyone. Thought I'd be lonely."

The man listened, shaking his head. That was no reason to give someone a child! That was so....irresponsible! Well, at least Risa seemed to have a some-what-level head on her shoulders. "Well, atleast you were informed before he was born."

"Yes--I had time to prepare." Risa said with a nod and a smile. "I'll always be grateful to the Princess--I needed someone around the house. It is... rather difficult to get back to socializing after being exiled for so long."

"Exiled?" What on Gaia was she talking about? "Care to explain?" He asked, folding his hands on the table next to his plate.

"Lynwood." Risa said with a slight frown. "You know the stories--if you weren't there. The king ruled that every fae was to leave the kingdom..our family didn't leave. We were found hundreds of years later--by a toddler. The current king allowed us to stay for a while, as motivation for his daughter to stay. She didn't--so we were exiled."

"I don't believe I've heard of that." Matthias said, his tone calm. "Then again, I've never really paid much attention to the affairs of so-called 'kingdoms'." Which wasn't the complete truth; he'd heard bits and pieces about this Lynwood place. And he definitely didn't like what he heard.

Risa looked surprised. She'd never met a fae who hadn't heard of Lynwood before. "Oh.. Well.. You're lucky to not have heard of it." She said with a nod. "The only thing good that's ever come out of it--well, is the Princess."

"You have a high opinion of Thali, I take it?" Matth asked, his tone calm. Why else would she call her princess? He highly doubted that the girl was royalty; she surely didn't act like it...

"I practicially raised her." Risa said with a shrug. "Her parents weren't very kind back then--tried locking her in a room. I saved her. Luckily, the little Prince doesn't have to deal with that."

Matth just nodded, listening. "They are not getting parent of the year." he said, making an attempt at a contemporary joke and failing. Prince? Well, maybe she called all children pet names like that.

"I don't believe any king or queen of Lynwood has." Risa stated, though she smiled at Matth's attempt to joke. It didn't suit him. "Things have gotten better since Davian was born. I've never met the Prince myself--but apparently he's the polar opposite of Thali."

Matthias paused. "Wait....you mean actual royalty?" Obviously, they were on different pages here. He figured Davian had to be Thali's brother, so he didn't bother asking Risa that. But still, actual royalty, in this day and age?[

Risa was surprised by his question. "Yeah. I thought the Princess had explained to you--never mind. You have heard of Lynwood, haven't you? Rumors?"

Matthoas shrugged. "I might have. It's been a while; I could be thinking of a different place." he said dismissively. He toyed with his now-empty plate, and was almost finished with his drink.

Risa took the final bite of pasta, swallowed and said, "It's buried deep in the woods. Hard to find if you've never been there. Used to be two giant adders who'd attack any elf that dared leave."

Matthias snickered, but otherwise didn't say anything. He stood up, pushing his chair in. "This has been interesting." he said, not thinking of how it sounded. "I must be going, though."

Risa stood up as well. "It's been nice getting to know you better." She said with a smile. "I'm glad we had the oppurtunity to talk." Interesting? Was that all it'd been? Not fun?

Matthias offered a small smile. "As am I." he said, gathering their plates to take up. To him, interesting and fun were two exchangeable words, meaning nearly the same thing.

Risa followed Matth, and shyly tapped him on the shoulder. "Um." She started, "I was just wondering.. do you want to do this again sometime? It was fun and... It's okay if you don't."

Matthias paused, thinking about it. He knew it wouldn't be that good of an idea, but what could it hurt. "Sure, I do not see why not." he said, offering her a small smile.

Risa was surprised, she'd half expected him to say no. "Thursday sound good to you?" She asked. "Or are you busy?"

Risa had been thinking this week's events. Well, one event in particular. The so called date with Matth. The fae still couldn't get over the fact that he had agreed to meet her again. She'd been worried that he didn't like her.

When Miles was informed of this, he merely gave his mother an amused look. "He likes you." He said it so matter of factly that Risa had to wonder if the boy knew something she didn't. Nah. He was just trying to reassure her.

"Nah, I don't think he does--" The fae started. "He---" She was interrupted.

"Will he make you happy?" Miles asked, looking up at his mother. "Will he make your wish come true?"

Risa stared at her son for a long while. She nodded. How'd he know what her wish was? And how'd he know...? How did he know?

Miles offered her a smile. "Then, he has my approval." He said it with an authority Risa had never heard him use before. "As long as he doesn't hurt you." He told her sternly. "If he does, I've claimed the right to hurt him."

The fae was silent for a long time. Then she did something particularly Thalish. She giggled. He son frowned at her.

"I haven't said anything funny." He said.

The fae had to take several deep breaths before she could speak. "You..." she started, her expression told Miles she was trying hard not to laugh. "Don't worry." She said, suddenly serious. "I haven't been broken yet."
