So who here has hear or even played the Vampire Hunter D video game? What are your thoughts and opinions on it?

Well for me it was ok. For a PS1 game it wasn't awful but it could have been a little better, even so I still liked it in a way. Well so far at least, I never actually finished since I'm unable to save the game and well the controls for the game just suck! I had more of a challenge trying to run or walk in that game than killing monsters or solving something.
Yeah getting use to moving D is a challenge. It reminds me of Tomb Raider a little, Lara is always hard to move. Using the Analog Sticks on your controller you can walk D more casually as he would in the Anime. He's never really rushing around unless he's running after some Vampire. But he's always cool, calm and collected. So I try to have him walk calmly through out the game. Using the directional buttons he seems to only run.

The main complaint many people have had with the game characters are the boxy look to the zombies. But the game still has a lot of blood and gore, creepy sounds and settings. When you hack at a zombie two times with your sword, use your left hand to suck in the zombie or what ever monsters you attack. This will keep your left hand fed and your defenses at full power. Also every drop of blood you splash at D, helps him gain strength and heal from wounds. 3nodding

Hmm the graphics were fine to me. I never get picky with them and they seemed fine. Only problem was the controls, It was fine walking till I had to fight something. xD

Wow 29$! I only payed 10$ for mine at game stop. I was browsing through the used games with my friend till I saw something that looked familiar.
When I picked it up and saw what it was I squealed and people stared at me. Didn't bother me one bit since I ws super happy.

I was never able to find a VHD used at any store here. It was extremely rare in this area. My copy was brand new and I think well worth the price at the time. I was so excited when I ordered it. And yeah there are those who describe the game play especially the controlled movements as clunky. But I love the little 3D movie sequences in the game. Like the image screencap just above this reply. heart

Notice his cape's lining? The Japanese version isn't purple inside. It's more like the one in the Movie.

Why do you think they changed D's colors?

Maybe America likes Purple better than a goldish color? xD

No, America just doesn't get the quality Japanese Products that are produce surrounding Anime. Like the Dolls that came out in America based on various other Anime like Sailor Moon. They are never as good in quality as the ones imported and sold in Japan. As a long time Anime Fan and collector, the difference in quality of products are clearly visible. The items sold in Japan will always be better quality and made with better devotion to detail. sweatdrop Maybe they think we don't deserve it?

I like the game a lot from what I've played of it and the controls weren't really hard to get either.

Hi I'm new here, I have the PS1 Game bought it used along time ago for about $3.00 it was kind of hard getting used to the controls. The controls sorta reminded me of games like PS1 Resident Evil and PS1 Parasite Eve ,graphics were so so, loved the cut scenes. Its a good game if you are a fan of the series.

I woke up early 2-1-09 Sunday morning and couldn't go back to sleep. I got up and started working on some more VHD animated gifs for my thread in the Fanart SF: Fan Made VHD Animated Gifs and then it dawned on me. I should try and make animated gifs from some of the Game's little movie sequences. So I hooked up my old PS1 to my old VCR and TV and started to play; while having my remote control nearby so I could record the movie sequences. I played through the entire Game and recorded all the movie sequences I could. Now I can sit back and play back all the movie sequences as one whole video. But I wish I knew how I could upload the VCR video to my computer? ~__~ I wonder if PS1 can hook up to my computer but I don't think Playstation had that technology back then. I'm still hoping to transfer wonderful video sequences onto my computer from the entire game play. Anyone know how I can do this??

I managed to create this animated gif from the game at around 4AM. It's a little large though as a file. But consider it a small movie and it's not that long to download. I think it came out rather well. I haven't been able to upload my captured movie sequences thou. I had to look for one of the Intros already online. I used frames from that video. Anyhow people come check out my Fan Made Vampire Hunter D animated Gifs page?! And let's hangout! Sometimes I'm in there late at night updating, so if you want to find me and chat come on by... ^__^

I've had it for awhile now but I've only been able to actually play it once, since I'm afraid to play it on my PS2, which has been destroying discs recently. ;o;

So I try to play it when I go to a friends sometimes...

I can save my progress though since I have a normal playstation memory-card to go with it and my other PS1 games.

I actually remember playing this some time ago. As what most have already said, I didn't care much for the controls, a tad difficult for me to get used to at first. But personally, the most frustrating part wasn't the controls, but the weird camera angles (mainly during boss battles); jumping over pits and security lasers was annoying when an angle transition would stall the controls.

Favorite parts were the lovely CG cutscenes, and the soundtrack... A shame an official one was never released.
Though I was fortunate to find a high-quality rip. smile

I've never actually seen a copy of the game before, and I don't have the PlayStation One console. I did hear that the graphics were beautiful when it came to the cut scenes, but the controls were very sluggish. I'd like to try my hand at this game someday.
