So who here has heard or even played the Vampire Hunter D video game? What are your thoughts and opinions on it?
Well for me it was ok. For a PS1 game it wasn't awful but it could have been a little better, even so I still liked it in a way. Well so far at least, I never actually finished since I'm unable to save the game and well the controls for the game just suck! I had more of a challenge trying to run or walk in that game than killing monsters or solving something.

I was never able to play the game but I've always wanted to. Reviews say that it's horrible because of the controls, but I'd love to play it anyway. Was it based on Bloodlust?

~Masquerade Of The Night~ I was never able to play the game but I've always wanted to. Reviews say that it's horrible because of the controls, but I'd love to play it anyway. Was it based on Bloodlust? Yes it was based on Bloodlust. And well the reviews were right. Thats the reason I never finished, the controls and the fact that I can't save the game. It wasn't bad so far, but I had such a hard time even walking around.

That is to bad. I'd still like to play it, or just buy it to have it. Unfortunatly, I haven't seen a game based on an anime yet that was any good. Though I heard good things about the Ghost in the shell shooter for the PS1 but that's off the topic of D. ^^ So we won't get into that lol.

I didn't like .hack//gu but the original ones were good.
Anyways, that why I bought it. I wanted to have it just because it was VHD. That and I though it would be good. xD I just happen to be in GameStop looking through the PS1 games. Everyone was staring at me when I found it though I guess I was acting a bit too happy lol. But I got it real cheap, so I wasn't to upset about it.

No worries. I know how that is. I found the Ghost In The shell game I mentioned in a pawn shop and didn't hesitate to buy it. I'd never seen it before and it had everything with it so that was cool. I still plan on buying the game. My beau will probably confescate it though. He's more of a D fan than I am. He's read all the books and was so happy to see they made a manga of it. Though we both think they need to get with makin more movies >.<. Atleast american directors haven't gotten their dirty hands on the rights to D. I could just see them screwing it up. **shudders**

Not the Princess Mononoke it's a different one. But anyway. They screwed up the main characters voice. It was awful, he sounded to young and his personality was so screwed up.
I wanna see more movies too. Hmm that gives me an idea for a thread. xD
But if we do ever get more I want their voices to be good, and D's character the same as the novels. Jut like ow the other two movies did. They got his character and the voices perfect.

I honestly didn't even know that there was a Vampire Hunter D video game. Now that I know I have to go and find it. I have a playstation 2 so I don't think that I will have a problem playing it. How is the story line and battle sequences? Would you reccomend it only because you are a fan or is it acctually fun to play?

I have the PS2 also, and because I don't have a PS1 I can't save the game since it's a PS1 game.
It has the same story as the movie Bloodlust and the third novel, it's just mixed around a bit. I'd get it if your a fan but for fun I wouldn't. I defiantly wouldn't play it if you have an anger problem i broke 2 controllers cause of that game. The fighting sucked it was just slashing a toothpick looking sword around. xD
I didn't like the voices to much either but eh, over all it;s not to horrible that you shouldn't play it's just not that great. Your not really missing out on anything.

Yes they did, but I so want to see that anime! It's got the silver haired dude with the red marks on his face right and looks very pretty and deals with the moral horrors of humanity right? I found a picture of him on a journal and it just looks to good. Well, aside from the obvious in the english version you've stated.

It was biased after one of the arcs in the Ayakashi classic Japanese horror anime. So there was about 3 episodes from that.

Oh Yes!!! I love the Game. heart You know when I first saw it being sold at; "Media Play" at the Great Mall near my town, it was priced at $75. So I held off buying it back then which was a mistake because a few weeks later when I returned to that Mall it was gone. I couldn't find the game anywhere else in any of their stores. And that was the only Mall I would see it at. There's another Mall close to my home and I went into a Game Store and the clerk actually tried to tell me that the Vampire Hunter D game didn't exist. He was really arguing with me saying that if he's never seen it or heard of it, it doesn't exist. And that Mall never carried VHD. So my final choice was to order it from Ebay. I actually only paid $29 and the game came all the way from Florida. But I've owned it for many years and I love it. ^__~ I've seen all the different endings. And don't forget to pick up Leila's gun to return it to her. Thats the only way to save her in the end.

Well so far at least, I never actually finished since I'm unable to save the game and well the controls for the game just suck! I had more of a challenge trying to run or walk in that game than killing monsters or solving something. Yeah getting use to moving D is a challenge. It reminds me of Tomb Raider a little, Lara is always hard to move. Using the Analog Sticks on your controller you can walk D more casually as he would in the Anime. He's never really rushing around unless he's running after some Vampire. But he's always cool, calm and collected. So I try to have him walk calmly through out the game. Using the directional buttons he seems to only run. The main complaint many people have had with the game characters are the boxy look to the zombies. But the game still has a lot of blood and gore, creepy sounds and settings. When you hack at a zombie two times with your sword, use your left hand to suck in the zombie or what ever monsters you attack. This will keep your left hand fed and your defenses at full power. Also every drop of blood you splash at D, helps him gain strength and heal from wounds. 3nodding

Would you reccomend it only because you are a fan or is it acctually fun to play? I would recommend it. It has some cool 3D animated scenes of D and others from Bloodlust, characters in their own movie sequences. It's actually very neat to see D in 3D in some of these sequences. It's basically based on "Bloodlust" the movie. But the whole game takes place in Carmilla's Castle of Chathe. But I recommend it because the game is so rare now and hard to come by. There are several endings, and different scenario sequences depending on the different routes and decisions you choose to take as D. Check out this Intro on Youtube...
