! He watched as Opaj seemed to linger over something in particular...and before he knew it, he was looking over his shoulder, reading as well.
"You think it's actually the real deal?" It was mostly a rhetorical question-- and the Murmillion did know his share of world history...as misplaced or displaced as it would be.
At any rate... "What is a Knight without a shield?" He looked to Opaj, grinning slightly. "Do you mind?"

Stepping aside, opaj smiled. "Be my guest, I have no use for it."
He moved on to the next thing, a silver-engraved axe just hanging on the wall. Shrugging, he tossed it out the window with one arm. They could sort the junk from the treasure later.
He and Dzan were making off like pirates.

Taking his gauntleted fist, he would smash in the case that held the shield.  And here I was telling myself I wouldn't actually take anything... Brushing aside pieces of glass, he would carefully take hold of and pull out the shield. But then again...I'm just going to borrow this... He right eye seemed to have a sparkle to it, as he lifted the shield around and gave it a good look. There was no direct way of discerning if it was just a showpiece or was actually battle-worthy... but it did have a feeling...of oldness to it... If nothing would happen upon taking the shield out and wearing it-- (on his exposed right arm of course)-- then he would face Opaj and Dzan. "Are we going to check the other rooms as well?"

As the glass broke, a two-hundred pound spring would propel the shield into Vahn's chest, with enough force to launch the man at the window. opaj would burst forward and throw his hand out for Vahn to grab, hoping to slow the fellow pirate down before he even reached the window.

---!!! WHUMP The surprise on his face showed clear as day as he was sent backwards, the air stolen from his chest as the shield impacted. It didn't help that he was wearing a full suit of armor-- even if it was Elven made, as he knew there would be some slight bruising to be had. "Shi---!" He spread out both his arms, not even caring about the damn shield anymore-- knowing that what was behind were the row of windows--- and that he was headed straight for them! Fortunately for him, his outstretched right hand would find Opaj'-- and he would suddenly be yanked both downward and to the side of the window, before crashing back to the ground; having narrowly avoided defenestration. If he was lucky anyway. He wasn't in the mood to test the full capabilities of the Unity Field, even if it did extend all the way beyond the windows and to the grounds below.

"Whoa!" Jerking his arm back as his hand met Vahn's, he took on some of the man's momentum and was sent tumbling face-first into the low wall. Fortunately for them, they would remain in the palace, because the Unity Field only covered the space within the domed walls.
Pulling himself up, opaj reached for his nose, fully expecting it to be broken. It was not--not even bleeding. Vahn wouldn't have bruised, either, protected by the field. They were unharmed, if a little startled.
Brushing the dust off his shirt, opaj tapped the most holy shield, now lying on the floor, with his boot. "You still want it?"
Dzan would chuckle and continue throwing gold out the window.

He let loose a string of curses in Murmillion, even as he brought himself back up. He was looking mighty cross with what had happened...especially since he had been the one to caution the rest of them to begin with. "Yea...Hey, thanks." He bit his lower lip, even as he scooped the shield up and look back towards where the trap had sprung. "You guys better be careful with the rest of this stuff. That wasn't exactly user friendly." He knew he should have gotten injured from that...but he felt fine. So this is a Unity Field...

"Yeah, even here it looks like things can be dangerous..." He peered out the window. "I get the feeling that we might not have been so lucky if we went out there.
"Hey, let's go further in. I think I'll feel better if I'm not surrounded by windows right now."

"Sure...Dzan seems preoccupied with shoveling as much crap as he can out the windows anyway." Standing back up to his feet, he strapped on the shield, using it on his bare arm (which would be the right) and tested the weight of it. There was no direct way of discerning if it was just a showpiece or was actually battle-worthy... but it did have a feeling...of oldness to it... "I still can't believe there's really no one left in here...what could have happened...to all these people...even the Royalty...this so called 'God-Queen' was supposed to be all powerful...yet..."

"Yeah..." opaj looked around, and found a door that seemed to lead further in. He would step inside, and enter the honey-combing rooms that made up the upper levels.
"I don't have a clear idea... to be honest, I'd been out in the wilderness for about a month before I joined up with this crew, so I didn't even know about Frostschild until I was on my way here.
"But the God-Queen, right? I've always heard she was all-powerful, but I didn't put too much weight behind it. I mean, I've met plenty of deities and would-be deities, but none I would claim to be 'all' powerful.
"Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if she was responsible for all this."
((For the record: the shield is a replica. It has the weight of a normal shield, but it is not of battle-level sturdiness and will break under excessive pressure.))

"She would have to be... if all these people counted on it." He mused softly, more-so to himself, as he walked slightly beside Opaj. All to well, did he still remember the power Draeger had held over the people... when you had enough belief in something, anything could possibly become true. Perception was more dangerous than clarity. "I'm not really feeling anyone nearby, other than us." He said, indicating that other than their group of four, there was no one else about-- at least anything that gave off heat. "There just might be something else we just can't see yet...if you think about it. Because if something bad di happen to these people...then the same can happen to us." He spoke calmly, even as he continued searching whatever side rooms they passed (sticking his head in and the like) until something of significant interest popped up.

The honeycomb rooms were confusing, so opaj was not navigating a straight path for them. However, if Vahn could detect heat, he might pick up on the large boulder two rooms to their right that was giving off quite a bit of heat.
"Heh, well, if we're lucky we didn't just screw ourselves by coming here." Glancing at the wall, he saw an ornate gold chain. Thinking it would look nice on Angelbell, he snatched it off the wall and pocketed it.
"So, I guess if it's not something important looking, like a shield in a display case, it's not trapped?"

"Probably... but..." He stopped mid-sentence, closing his eye now as he began concentrating. It was faint... but he could feel something nearby emanating heat. It wasn't a body, of that much he could be sure. "There's something around here..." He lifted his left arm up, finger extended...and slowly pointed to the right of them. "It's faint... but there it is there." He started to head in that direction, not waiting for any reaction from Opaj or their female companion. It seemed he was more interested in life than objects.
