>The Reluctant Move In< Elliot eyed his new space warily, standing at the edge of the threshold, box of things still in his arms. He wasn’t too sure about this move, he had been basically been forced into it by Liam and was now living out side of his comfort zone. Sure this place was closer to school and would save so much money on gas, ( they could literally walk or ride bikes there for God’s sake!) But he still wasn’t fond of the idea.
But before he could think anymore to himself on the topic, a shove to the middle of his back made him stumble into the apartment, a frantic look upon his face as he tried to keep his box of things balanced on his arms. Once all was well, he blew a piece of hair out of his face and turned to look at his ‘attacker,’ soon seeing it to be Liam, his best friend and new roomie.
“ Hey what was that for?” He straightened up, moving toward the kitchen counter to set the box upon, it was getting heavy after all.
“ You take way too damn long to get inside. While you’re off day dreaming, I’m stuck standing there with this heavy a** box.” Liam smirked and made his way into his room, setting the box onto the floor with a thud. Elliot winced, having sworn he heard a few things break inside the box, and he knew who would be using the super glue later to fix them.
Liam returned from his room a grin on his face before he wrapped an arm around Elliot’s shoulders. “ Now don’t look so glum! You’re out of the house and living with a cool a** roomie. What’s there to be sad about?”
Elliot opened his mouth to respond but was interrupted before he was even able to get a sound out. “ That’s right, nothing! Now go downstairs and get the rest of your s**t. I don’t want to keep that moving van for any longer than I need to y’know.”
Elliot glared at his friend before letting out a sigh of defeat, slipping out from under his friend’s arm and making his way back down the stairs to where the rest of his ‘s**t’ was waiting inside the moving van.
Why, oh why, did he ever agree to this?

>Another Trip to the Store< It’s just a plant, he said. Liam is such a damned liar, and he knew it.
These were the angry thoughts that swam around in Elliot’s head as he stared at the large cabbage situated on the coffee table before him. He had taken his friend’s word and assumed it would be something that the other would take care of, not the other way around. It was Elliot who spent his time taking care of the plant, using the spray bottle that came with it to water it, and moving it from one pot to another as the thing grew. Oh had he mentioned it was about 2 feet wide now?
Elliot sighed as he pulled on the handle of the water bottle, another mist of water shooting out upon the cabbage. As angry as he was at Liam for dumping his ‘project’ on him, he did find the cabbage to be very interesting. The exact details of why it was considered a project was unknown to him, but he could see on his own that it was more than just a normal plant. Another shower of mist spread out on the cabbage, particularly upon the largest leaf of the plant.
This leaf had oddly grown longer and larger than the others and had attained the shape of what Elliot called a ‘fluffy tail.’ There was nothing fluffy about the leaf, mind you, but he was sure he had seen that shape on the end of some fluffy animal before, he just couldn’t remember which exactly. He pet the one leaf for a moment before holding it up for another good spray from the water bottle.
Satisfied that the plant was either perfectly watered or at the edge of over-watering, Elliot set the bottle on the table, pushing himself up from the couch. While Liam was out doing ‘Liam things,’ Elliot needed to go out and buy a larger pot. It seemed that the cabbage had out grown its new home already. He sighed, pondering the thought that eventually the ladies that worked in the lawn and garden department of the store would know him by name by the end of the week.
He grabbed his keys from the key bowl by the door, and slipped into his shoes. He spared a glance back to the cabbage on the coffee table, feeling the need to tell it to behave while he was gone. Even though it was a plant, it felt more and more like another being to him every day, something he needed to talk to and keep company. But he signed, turning his back on the cabbage and slipping out the door with a muttered, “ Ill be back soon, buddy,” following him.

> The Truth Unfolds and the Choice is Finally Made! < Elliot returned to the apartment a short while after, lugging a large clay pot back up the stairs. He could have easily gotten the lighter, cheaper plastic pot, but he thought they were a bit tacky looking. But as he concentrated on keeping the large pot in his arms, rather then ending up on the floor, he kind of wished he had ignored his need to buy the better looking one. Plus the fact that he had a bag of soil inside the pot, didn’t make it any lighter nor easier to carry.
Once he finally reached the door, Elliot groaned at the thought of having to lose the hold of the pot that he had, more so groaning at the thought of having to lift if up from the floor again. It had been hard enough getting it to and from the car, he wasn’t really looking forward to hefting it off of the ground. So instead of getting it over with, he glared at the door, as if trying to will it to open on its own.
He gave up on the idea of trying to make it open with ‘mind powers’ and began to figure out how exactly he would get his keys out of his front pocket without having to put the heavy pot down. That was until he heard the sound of the deadbolt being unlocked, watching with wide eyes as the door knob turned and the door slowly creaked open. Elliot stared in disbelief, stunned by the fact the door had opened on its ‘own,’ until the door was finally pulled back and revealed Liam on the other side, grinning like an idiot. Or at least that’s the thought that ran through Elliot’s mind as he glared back in return.
“ No X-men powers for you, Eli,” The older man chuckled, taking a step back to let Elliot in. “ Oh shut up,” Elliot replied, stomping into the apartment the best he could while caring the heavy pottery and soil. Liam merely chuckled again in response, shutting the door behind them and then moving to take the pot from Elliot, peering inside before doing so. Elliot huffed in response, mainly at how easy it seemed to be for Liam to carry the heavy items compared to himself.
“ What’s this for anyways, and where do you want me to put it?” “ What’s it for? Its for the cabbage you idiot. Did you forget about it already? Go ahead and put it on the table beside the cabbage,” Elliot huffed. He normally wasn’t this snappy to Liam, not that the other wasn’t used to it anyways, but Elliot knew that Liam was hiding some things about this plant from him, and had the right mind to get to the bottom of it today.
The two made their way into the living room, one smirking out of amusement the other silently brooding.
“ I didn’t forget about it,” Liam said as he set the pot on the table. He paused before hefting the bag of soil out of the pot, setting it on the floor and ripping open the bag. The smell of soil hit his nose and it scrunched before he pulled back, looking at Elliot with an arched brow. “ What I meant was why are you buying it a new pot? Isn’t the one its in fine?”
Elliot resisted the urge to smack his own forehead in frustration, and instead moved himself to the table, busying his hands with arranging things in just the right place before he went to work. “ Plants grow, Liam, and need to be moved into bigger pots when they out grow their old ones.” he wriggled his fingers in front of Liam’s face, “ They have roots remember? And the plants don’t like having their roots all bunched up in a too small pot.”
Liam eyes Elliot’s fingers, snapping his teeth together in an attempt to tease, but was only rewarded with yet another glare. He shrugged his shoulders in mock defeat, “ You’re the plant guy not me, Eli, but that makes much more sense now.”
Elliot huffed in response, turning his back to Liam before adding, “ Common sense, Liam, but I guess I can forgive you for being an idiot.” He smirked over his shoulder, which Liam grinned at in return.
“ It can’t be helped after all,” Liam chuckled before standing next to Elliot, watching him start to scoop hand fulls of soil into the new pot. “ Need help with anything?”
Elliot nodded, “ Once I get enough soil into this pot, I need you to hold onto the old pot while I pull the cabbage out of it, and put it into this new one.”
“ Sounds simple enough, even for me.”
Elliot couldn’t help but smile at the comment, leaning against Liam slightly as the two worked together to place the heavy cabbage into its new home. Elliot was glad that Liam was home to help him, he didn’t want to think of how hard of a time he would have had on his own, or the mess he would have made with the soil. He shuddered at the thought, for even with hardwood floors, soil was such a hard thing to clean up. Trying to keep his mind off the thought of cleaning up, he remembered what he had wanted to ask Liam in the first place.
He nudged the other man with his shoulder, arching a brow in question before asking straight out, “ So what’s up with this cabbage?”
“ What do you mean,” Liam asked with feigned innocence.
“ Don’t play dumb about this, you know what I mean. This isn’t just some normal plant, there’s something fishy about it, and you’re hiding it from me. A real cabbage doesn’t get this big! Its about two feet now! I know because I measured it!” While he continued his list of reasons why the cabbage couldn’t be nothing, Liam just chuckled in response, covering his ears to shield them from the increasing volume of Elliot’s voice.
“ Ok ok, Eli, settle down, my ears are bleeding.” He looked at his hands and made a face as if he had seen blood. Elliot huffed in response, snatching hold of his hands to get a look just in case. Liam merely chuckled taking the chance of Elliot hold onto his hands, pulling him close in an attempt to hold him. Of course Elliot fought it at first, but soon gave up, seeing it being pointless as he leaned his back against Liam’s chest, watching the other’s arms wrap around him.
“ So what is it that you’re being all lovey dovey,” Elliot muttered, doing his best to use his bangs to hide his blushing face.
Liam paused, considering his words carefully before tightening his hold on Elliot, “ A kid.”
As he expected at first there was a stunned silence, followed by the question of if he was being serious, or being an idiot like usual. He was being serious, of course. And this was followed by the tensing of muscles and the angry flail of limbs as Elliot tried his best to pummel him. But he held Elliot firm, keeping him in place.
“ WHY WOULD YOU DO SUCH A THING WITHOUT ASKING ME FIRST?!” “ I just didn’t, I forgot or something.” “ YOU JUST DON’T FORGET ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS!” “ Well I did, and its not like we didn’t talk about it before hand. We talked about adopting a kid fro-“ “ YES BUT THAT WAS WITH AN AGENCY! NOT SOMETHING SPROUTED FROM A PLANT!” Liam frowned, finally letting go of Elliot, quickly escaping the flailing arms that chased after him as he made his way into the entry way again. Elliot was close behind calling to him to stop walking away and talk to him. Liam stopped once he was at the door, shuffling through his briefcase that was open on the table along the wall and quickly pulled out an envelope, holding it out to Elliot who was hovering behind him.
“ We were rejected,” Liam simply stated.
“ We were what?” Elliot paused, all of his anger draining from him as he eyed the letter, taking it from Liam and tugging the note that was inside of it out to read. He pushed his glasses up higher on his nose, eyes darting back and forth as he read. “ T-they rejected us?” He looked up from the letter, a confused look upon his face as he question Liam, “ But why? We’re not bad people! I don’t understand,” he muttered the last part, lost in thought as his eyes returned to the rejection letter in his hands, rereading everything in case he missed something. “ They don’t even give us a real reason!”
Liam shrugged,” Why else would they reject us Eli? They don’t like ‘our kind.’”
Elliot paused in his reading, his eyes widening as he looked up into Liam’s eyes. “ They can’t reject us because we’re both guys...”
“ They can do whatever they want apparently. Its their personal choice whether they accept certain applicants or some s**t,” he shrugged, walking away from Elliot and making his way back to the living room. Elliot followed slowly, still staring at the letter in his hands, quite stunned into an unusual silence. The pair dropped onto the couch, Liam placing an arm around Elliot’s shoulders as he continued to stare at the letter. “ Staring at it won’t make them change their minds, Eli.”
Elliot sighed, tossing the letter onto the floor, folding his arms over his chest as he silently began to brood. Liam chuckled, mussing up Elliot hair, “ Pouting won’t help either.”
“ I’m not pouting! Its just so unfair though...” Liam shrugged, his eyes moving toward the cabbage on the table not too far away. “Well maybe its for the best.”
Elliot eyed Liam curiously before following his gaze to the cabbage, a small smile slowly gracing his pouting features. “ Y’know...I think you’re right.”
Liam arched a brow in question before turning his attention back to his partner. “Is that a yes?” Elliot looked back at Liam, his usual frown back in place before it quickly turned into a smile, a short nod soon following. “Yes it is. Whatever comes out of that cabbage,” he pointed at it as if to make a point, “ will be our child. May God have mercy on its soul.”
Liam laughed at this, nodding in agreement, before getting up form the couch. “There’s no joke about that.”
(like said before, they're not bad parents, or bad people, but as you can see, theyre pretty silly, and any kid would probably label them as more than crazy XD then again what kid doesn't think their parents are insane to some degree >_>;;; )
