Sometimes when Wisp Darnell was disheartened -- she was rarely annoyed or irritated for a very long period of time, not more than five minutes, as it simply wasn't in her nature -- and so when she was upset, or frustrated, especially after school, she would go to the Daycare Center to see the kids. They cheered her up like some people were cheered up by seeing puppies: sure, puppies were cute too, but the kids were really fun, and sometimes Xi would give her some applesauce which made her nostalgic for being two feet tall.
She dropped her bag at the desk and waved at Evan before letting herself into the nursery: she had Nursery Privileges, which made her feel special, and she had been popping in nearly every day for the last week to try to cheer herself up over the superhero business. She was immediately thrilled when she saw a new small figure in the layout: made a beeline for him immediately, especially as it was wearing a little orange fox suit, and she dropped down in front of the little golden-haired boy and clapped her hands in glee.
"You're so cuuuuute," she said, gushing. "What's your name, you? Hi, hi! You're dressed as a fox! Soooooo cuuuute."
Kids were adorable.

Todd gazed up at the brightly coloured girl, pausing in his playtime with the spelling blocks. Sapphire eyes stared for a moment before they were closed in a smile. He held out his hand, offering a block in an attempt to get the girl to play with him. Sharing was always a good thing! Or at least thats what his daddies always told him.
" I'm Todd! I'm a fox! What's your name kid?" Merely an overly rehearsed line from his favorite movie,"The Fox and the Hound." The young boy had watched it so many times that he had at least these few spots of sentences memorized. His vocabulary didn't really extend any farther outside of simple words of description. He was a smart boy, don't get him wrong, but he didn't see in any point to talk so much like his daddies did.
He opened his eyes once more, his free hand coming up to his mouth as he began to chew at his thumb nail. " Pretty!" He of course meant the girl before him, her colours dazzled him!

Soooooooo cute. She wanted to pick him up and squeeze him, or at least give him a cuddle, but Xi and Evan had warned her about squishing the kids before: you had to be very gentle as they were little, and sometimes they didn't like being touched. So smart, too! Little pink rainbows sparkled around Wisp's head, prismatic patches, and she clapped her hands together and dropped further to her haunches.
"You're my new favourite," she said. "Todd! Adorable. I'm Wisp, Todd!" She took the block and admired it suitably, grabbing another block to put on top of it. "Can you say 'Wisp'? Can you?"
Yeah, she adored children. She wanted ninety. All named after colours.

Todd beamed at the compliments. He was her favorite! He didn't know exactly what that meant but he figured it meant a good thing by the way she was reacting. His eyes seemed to grow twice their size as he stared at the rainbows around the girl's head. " So pretty!" He giggled, before turning his gaze to the blocks before him.
He smiled as Wisp began to stack a few blocks, so he joined in on the fun, adding a block or two to start a mini pyramid of sorts. " Wisp!" He grinned wider, thinking the idea that he wouldn't have been able to say the girl's was a bit silly. Of course he didn't say much as it was so he didn't hold it against her, not that he would anyways.
He beamed at the girl again. " Wisp at daycare while parents work?" He figured that would be the case, at least thats what it was for him at the moment.

It had taken a little bit to sink in to realise that little Todd was not as low-functioning as some of the real babies inside the Nursery, that he could understand and converse back albeit in his baby-talk. "No," she said, laughing, "I go to school! I like to come here to visit all the nursery-schoolers. I miss building blocks and playing in the sandpit."
Thoughtfully, the blonde girl added another block. "Do your parents work, Toddmeister?"

"School? Whats school?" He had heard his parents talking about it before, but that was the extent of his knowledge of it. He quickly shrugged the thought and grinned at Wisp. " Blocks fun! Make pyramids then knock them down." He giggled at the thought, that for some reason always made him laugh.
Todd paused, cocking his head to the side in question. He liked that name she used, and it did have his name in it. Was that a new nickname for him? Well either way he loved it. He smiled, nodding in reply. " Daddy Liam works lots at car place. Daddy Elliot used to work lots jobs, but quitted when I was borned to spend time with me. But daddy Liam said he didn't need to work anyways, so its a good thing." He nodded, figuring he had replayed his parent's conversation about 'jobs' fairly well. " Daddy Elliot has to work with Liam sometimes at car place for 'end of month paperwork,' or somefing." He realized he was rambling and grinned sheepishly before asking, "What about your parents?"

"My mommy works as a teacher." Wisp put another block on the growing pyramid. "That's someone who works in a school. She teaches maths! That's adding and subtracting and things. You're lucky to have two dads," she added enviously, "I don't even have one."
She thought about his earlier question as she added another block on top. "School is like daycare," she said, "only you learn a lot more, and it's a lot harder, and you don't eat applesauce, but you get to run around in the gym and you have to do up your own shoes."
Another block. The pyramid was complete. "Okay! Do you want to knock it down?"

Todd listened intently, nodding once in a while as he thought hard about the new information. School certainly didn't sound like much fun, but the idea of running around in a 'gym' grabbed his attention.
He paused once the mention of two daddies came up, then grinned, "But you have a mommy! I don't have one of those, we're both lucky." He nodded in agreement with himself.
Then his eyes fell upon the finished pyramid. Tapping his chin in thought, he moved to snatch a small bird figure from the ground, gently placing it on top of the pyramid. he clapped his hands together before declaring, " It is prepared for knock down! You cans if you want to, or we do it same time! Count of three?"

"Three, two... One!"
Wisp reached out to gleefully help knock the pyramid of blocks over, though she generously left the main destruction of it to Todd Faustus, as he was only little. She laughed as they tumbled down with a clatter to the floor. "I am lucky," she said, "my mom is tall and she has blonde hair like me and she's really really beautiful and she can't see and she has a little demon called Thwomp."
Beatrix was perfect in Wisp's brain and probably always would be, despite her downsides: no mother was better, even if having her could be a bit of a drag. "So what do you like to play?" she said. "What are your favourite things, Toddmeister?"

Todd giggled as he joined Wisp in the pyramid destruction. It had been such a wonderful pyramid, and an even better one to knock down. The better the pyramid, the more noise it seemed to make when it fell. Now if they had that game that Liam liked to play so much...Jenga?
Todd busied himself with gathering the blocks into a neat pile as he listened to Wisp describe her mother. He smiled before replying, "She sounds pretty! She can't see? My daddy Elliot can't see good either!" He made circles with his index finger and thumb with both hands, placing them over his eyes. " So he wears glasses to make his eyes better. Daddy Liam call him Four eye."
He paused at the new questions presented to him, his thumb nail between his teeth as he thought hard about what he liked. " Daddy Liam play game called Jenga? Its fun! Like pyramid cept you no want it to fall downs." He snickered," But you still break it apart bit by bits. Its fun!"
