Oh.

The spirals of green and red blossomed all around the former acrobats sides. Lan sidled along, chocolate, and vanilla icecream cone held in his hand. The young adult had been idling around all day, because he wasnt supposed to go back to work until tomorrow. Breathing in the scent of flowers, Lan stopped and admired the wir like fence that connected to the ground at both sides and went over his head like a half done slinky. In between its silvery openings, many different flowers and ivy were weaving themselves in and blossoming. Lan had only come to the place five months ago. Amies had always been interesting to him. Before he had settled down, he had been travelling with the folk that held circus's all throughout the different lands. He had been part of the performances, but lately, he had only wanted to stay in one place for a bit and regroup himself. After awhile, he would leave again. After all, the owner of the circus had said he was always welcome, and Lan had enjoyed that life anyways. But right now...he didnt know. Something was just tugging on his heartstrings.

Placing the icecream to his lips, Lan enjoyed the cool taste. The sun had been beating down on him all day, and apart from that, he had just finished painting the two story place he had bought for a easy price. The place now looked like it had come right out of the circus, with multiple colors and design. Lan had been working as a chef for some time now, and it was rather easy earning money in such a large town. On days when he was off or needed more money, he could just as well go and run errands. And when he was off and didnt need to do something, well that was when he explored.

That is what had brought Lan to a part of town he hadnt explored yet. The garden like atmosphere within the curving, spiraling alleys that seemed to sprout with life. Every now and then, a form of water would show up. In a stream, a small waterfall on the rocks, a fountain, or just another place to cross over a bridge. Lan was enjoying this place more then he expected to. And that was odd. Sighing as he chomped down on the cone, Lan blinked, opening his eyes as he heard a rickety sound. Then he glanced down and blinked once more at the sight.

"Mrow."

The cat seemed pleased with Lans attention, flicking its speckled golden tail back and forth.
"Now what..." Lan said, bending down to get a better look at the cat. "Are you doing here?" The cat licked its paw and stared at him with bright hazel eyes. It looked young, older then a kitten though. Lan paused for a moment, and then sighed, sticking out his icecream cone to the cat. "Want some?" He asked, remembering a time when he had done the same thing over and over again with his food towards another cat that had been owned by no one really. It had always just been passing by. The cat sniffed it and leaned forward, taking a taste of it with its own mouth. "Good?" Lan asked, as the cat licked its lips. Its whiskers twitched and it mrowed contently. Lan laughed and smiled, having a feeling this cat was rather independent. Lifting himself up, Lan cocked an eyebrow and stretched, then yawned contently.

By the time he had opened his eyes, the cat had clawed at his shoe and started to run off.
"Hey!" Lan said hurriedly, forgetting his own self. "Wait up!" The loud echo of footsteps along the stone corridor maze was unheard by many, because Lan seemed to get deeper into the maze as he followed the cat. Why was he always chasing something? It made no sense. Lan panted as he came to a stop a few meters away from the cat, which had hopped onto a ledge and looked intently at him. Lan was keeled over, hands on his knees and breathing heavily from running so fast. Cats always outran humans. Looking up, Lan almost lost his breath. The cat had taken him far into the maze between the waterways of the entire city. Because it was built on water, many things were placed to represent that, and thus it created canals and waterfalls. Like this one.

Infront of him were three long steps leading down to a flat platform. The cat had taken up residence ontop of a small concrete wall that portruded the side of one of the two walls against the platform, which ended abruptly before two or three more inches of open space. Lan walked out infront of the walls to get a better look. Around the platform was a small canal that ran clear water, and Lan almost imagined people taking a swim in it because of its looks. Across from the narrow canal that wound around the corner at the far end Lan had peered down was a brick wall with ivy also hanging around it. About three meters above the water, on the brick wall, there was a large enough opening for Lan to fit through. Water streamed out of it rythmically, and it was gorgeous, pure clear. Lan watched as the cat climbed across three stepping stones that rose from the canal and hopped into the tunnel.

"I cant believe I'm doing this..."
Lan said, rolling his eyes and crossing the path the cat had taken, almost falling a few times. The opening was just low enough for him to squeeze through and Lan propelled himself upwards, following the swishing tunnel into the waters stream. Suprisingly, it wasnt as dark as he had thought. There were smards of light every now and then, and he slid through after two minutes into a large open room, with curved windows and a look that said "old and untouched." Lan doubted any person had been in this place in ages. It must have been built long ago if no one had renovated it.

A large, shallow square was in the center of the entire thing, and it was filled with the clear water that he had seen earlier. A small waterfall was coming out of another hole in the wall, but Lan didnt venture into that one because the cat had lead him to the right place. It sat near the river of water, pawing at something. Lan was almost too busy admiring the structure to see. He murmured
"This is rainwater, left from the storm. Its like a drainage almost. But the waters pure. I wonder - "

"Mroooow."
The cat, irritated with his rambling, looked over at him and back at the thing near the water. As Lan neared the pool, he realized that there were even living things in the water. Fish of some sort swam through the deeper parts, and plantlife grew beneath the surface in variations of beautiful red. But what the cat wanted him to see was much more elegant. A bottle deepset blue sat in the water, swirling contents almost invisible amongst its surface. It seemed to hold a sort of mysterious power, and Lan picked it up delicately. The cat seemed pleased, like its job had been done somehow. What is this..? Lan thought, shaking back his multicolored hair. And why did the cat take me to it? Sighing, Lan looked at the cat. "I cant just leave it behind I guess." He said, as if it were a question to the cat. It nodded and Lan puffed out one more sigh. "Oh well, whats a harmless treasure anyways?" He yawned as he carefully got out again, hopping onto the platform and raising the bottle into the sunlight. It was interesting. And Lan had a feeling it wouldnt just sit on his shelf for the rest of his days.

"So I guess you're coming with me then?"
he asked as the cat hopped up onto his shoulder and purred. "I thought so..." Lan sighed.

Well well. What adventure was he undertaking now?

Lan could hardly wait to figure it out.

Wanna swїng from a star in thз big bluз skїї.
Don't wanna watch it all go by.

The kitchen was full of life, and cooking. Sonare, the cat Lan had taken in as his own, was sticking his paw distastefully into a bucket of water Lan had put out for him. He had burned his paw attempting to grab a piece of fresh out of the oven food Lan had made. The only human there was tossing fried rice in a frying pan, a finger in his mouth to tastetest how good the cake frosting was. He had been like this all day, cooking like crazy. It was mostly desserts for later that night, but finally Lan had decided he was hungry for something people usually ate for lunch. Looking over at Sonare, he sighed and shook his head. “That’s why you don’t go rushing in.” He told the cat, who mrowed distastefully and stalked into the kitchen. The cat was definitely moody, but was usually in a good mood as long as Lan wasn’t asleep. Putting the fried rice onto a plate, Lan dowsed the food in ketchup, yawning as he stalked out into the living room outside the kitchen.

Placing his plate down on a low table, Lan sat down at the two beanbag like chairs behind it and yawned. The place was decorated with a curved, half moon couch and pillows, along with two beanbag chairs and a table. The fireplace was in the corner, and its mantle held anything dear to Lan on it. The walls had been painted royal purple, with blue and orange designs all over it. The neon like colors only adorned the living room, because Lan had made every single room unique in its own way. Tossing off his bandana, Lan leaned back, dressed in paint stained jeans, and a white tanktop that was easy enough to read. The words made out “bang bang you’re dead.” Lan had bought the shirt back in a rogue city a bit north, and his head had been spinning the first time he had entered the city. Completely lost in thought, the only thing that brought Lan back down to earth was the cat pawing at him irritably.
“What, Sona?” He asked through a yawn, his words all jumbled up because of his inability to speak clearly around the declaration of his laziness. He had been thinking of going out for a stroll later…but hadnt gotten around to it quite yet.

Sona turned his head, whiskers twitching, in the direction of the mantle where Lan had last put the bottle he had found earlier. Lan glanced over as well, wondering what had gotten the cat riled as it left the room in a hurry.
“Spoilsport…” Lan muttered before adjusting his focus on the peculiar object. He stared at it. And almost choked on his food. Hacking and coughing, Lan choked a bit and calmed himself down, trying to think logically. There was a giant, black mist around the bottle. Rubbing his head, Lan keeled over and groaned. He had definitely not been smart by collecting that bottle. Not smart at all. What had he done to deserve this??? Lan shook his head back and forth, trying to determine what to do. Sitting up, the young adult walked over, and hesitantly let his hand fall on the object. A few seconds later, he peaked an eye open –he hadnt even realized he had closed them in fear of being electrocuted or something - and sighed. Atleast it wasn’t trying to kill him. Carefully wrapping a hand around it, Lan brought it back to the beanbag with him and sat down, examining it all over. The mist warped and wrapped and twisted, but stayed the same none the less. “Oh what have I don’t to deserve this?” He asked as Sonare peered back cautiously into the room and sidled in, jumping onto his shoulder and eyeing it suspiciously.

“What do you think?”
Lan said. He had gotten used to talking to the cat since it was his only friend when he wasn’t at the café. Today he had worked an early shift, talking with the owners daughter, who was only ten but quite smart. The cat was already asleep on his shoulder. Lan frowned. “Lazy…” He mumbled under his breath and brought out a low yawn that made him think he was completely out of his mind. Instead of going to his bed, Lan gently put the cat down on the beanbag to sleep nicely and the bottle back on the table. Then he stood and left out the door, locking it so no one would try and break in. With a glance back, Lan ducked outside and blinked as a small amount of water hit his nose. It was sprinkling, not much, but just enough so that the ground was a bit dark from the rainwater. Lan sighed and smiled a bit. Oh well. A walk was just what he needed to clear his mind. Atleast the bottle wasn’t some mind eating mega alien thing come to steal his heart.

Lan hopped from foot to foot, and sighed as the rain ceased. There wea few clouds dotting the sky but other then that, there wasnt much. He turned a corner, and almost ran into a person, but was able to dodge in the nick of time. He wondered what he should do other then go home and ponder over his mist covered bottle. What an odd thing. He had a feeling that even if he chucked it out, the bottle would find a way back into his life, or Sonare would scratch his face up until he went out and found it again. Boy was Lan in a state of hellish confusion. Stretching his arms abe his head, Lan cocked an eyebrow and swirved into an old fashioned market place, idling through the stalls and glancing over different things as he went. It was a nice place to be, and there were small crowds, so sneaking around wasnt hard at all for him. Lan sighed, trying to clear his mind. Maybe some icecream would help....

Lan danced around the kitchen - not literally unfortunately - and swished his pan in his hand as he made another order up and slipped it to the waitress on the other side. "Thanks Lani~" She called, delivering it to to table. "I told you not to call me La- oh whatever." Lan sighed as the bubbly waitress stuck him with another order. The day had been busy, and even though he had a measly hour left, Lan felt like his limbs would break off if he did any more work. The owner had left on business, leaving him with kitchen duty, Naki the waitress with her normal duty and a fellow chef doing the same thing as her. The ten year old daughter, Willow, was swinging her legs back and forth on a stool in the small bar, eating a large icecream Lan had been forced to make her. Tossing something over and over until it was cooked, Lan dumped it on a plate and added all the things to make it adorably pretty and placed it at the counter for pickup before keeling over and panting like there was no tomorrow. Why did today of all days have to be so hard? Yesterday he had discovered the swirly mess of his bottle, and now he was just being worked to the bone like a dog. Oh well, he had to get through this somehow right?

After another forty minutes of working, he dumped his apron on the rack and went over to Willow, sitting down next to her, tossing his head back and moaning in displeasure.
"Hi Lani." She said, offering a spoonful of icecream. "Dont call me-" Lan took the spoon with amazing speed and ate the icecream offered, sighing at the relief the good food had given him. "Thanks..." He said lazily, almost falling onto the floor and turning into a puddle of mush. Of course he still had to go home and feed Sona so that didnt help. "Whats wrong with you?" Willow asked with a c**k of the eyebrow. She always loved to pry, and was quite a handful at times. "Just been busy." Lan groaned. Since he had come to Amies, Willow had been sort of like a sister to him in a sense. She had even helped him paint his room and then made him buy her icecream. Sometimes the girl acted as though she was using him for his money, but made up for it with sincere words here and there.

"Psh."
Willow ate another mouthful of icecream. "It sure doesnt seem like you're 'just busy.'" She glanced over at him. "If you ever need a day off, I'm around doing nothing as usual, waiting for that one guy to buy me some nice new jewelry and icecream." Lans face faultered. He would be run out of house and home with this girl who was currently examining her nails. Sighing, Lan hopped off the stool and turned to the girl. "Thanks, I'll think about it. By the way, hows that boy you are-" Lan chose this time to roll his eyes with a laugh. "So in love with?" Willow glanced up. "Ah, er, well. Its none of your business!" Lan shrugged and started to walk out. "Well good luck kiddo. See you tomorrow. Say hi to dad for me, kay?" With that, Lan was gone for a day of sleep and rest and not spending money on ten year old girls with the intention of getting everything she could off of him.

A few hours later, Lan found himself peacefully on his balcony, dressed in the lights of the sparkling sun and his own clothing as well of course. It was a great way to relax. The sunset danced with golden and orange colors, laced with pink and
blue. The sky lit up like it was on fire with neon, and Lan enjoyed the view of it from the safe haven of his balcony. Sonare was pawing at the bottle, watching the mist around it form and deform over and over again. Since the ting had sprouted a short fuse of black clouds, Lan had been taking it all aorund with him to make sure nothing happened without him knowing it. Glancing up, Lan slurped haphazardly on his yogurt. Yes, Sonare did drink yogurt with a straw. He had only gotten back home a few hours ago after going for a stroll, and had been quite in the mood for something premade and fruity. And then he had found yogurt, and his day became complete. Sona paced around the blue bottle, making himself comfortable and watching the sky just like Lan was. It all looked like a painting to him and the beauty of it was surrealistic. Lan glanced to the side, an odd thought striking his brain as he realized he was out of yogurt and chucked the can into a pile of already empty yogurt cans to be tossed in the garbage later.

Standing up, Lan went back inside for more, his mind trailing off as he stabbed another straw into his new peach yogurt and sat back down outside. Of course, he looked up in time to see the stupidest thing ever happen. A butterfly had zoomed past, and was headed straight for him. Now that, one in itself, was not a problem. Lan could a; swat at it, or b; let it attack him at will. Of course he had no time to do that because Sona had noticed the butterfly and rushed for it, completely forgetting the bottle. The cats tail whipped around and hit it, and it was sent hurtling through the air. Now, Lan had a very big problem on his hands. The bottle was falling and his eyes were about to be scratched out by Sona. Of course, he didnt pay any heed to that and flopped out of his chair. The end result made him hack up some yogurt and cough. He was half way over the side of the small table the bottle had been on, his cat having landed on his head and watching sadly as the butterfly flew off. Mrowing in displeasure, he glanced down at the lump underneath him. Lan was panting and coughing up yogurt that had been hurtled down his throat during the hasty event. The bottle was mere inches from the ground, safely secured by Lans hands.

"Dont...."
He scowled, rolling over and picking himself up. Sonare jumped down onto his shoulder, flicking his tail sheepishly. "Ever do that again." Lan sighed, not able to be mad at the cat for following its curiousity. Instead, he scratched the cat and picked up his yogurt, offering it to Sona before walking inside and discarding all the empty ones in the garbage can under the sink. The bottle safely in his bedroom, Lan flopped down and looked over as Sona creeped in, curling next to him. "Hey there." He said to the cat then glanced over at the bottle and sighed. Boy was this bottle causing him more trouble then he could have ever imagined.

The day before Lan went into town and met the fateful and ever so elusive Mia, he......

Realized something on that fine early afternoon, while being cooked to death by the heat and his broken air conditioner. He was not good at directions. It was like his weakness or something. The bottle was sitting near him on a table, and Lan himself was up on a ladder, painting the walls diligently and making sure that they were looking okay. It was his upstairs corridor which lead to a guest room and his own room. The wall was an inctricate blue with golden corners, and Lan was working on a map of Amies from a guide he had bought upon entering the town, putting it up on the wall in brighter hues then its dark rich background. So far it was okay, looking better then any map he had drawn himself before. But then again, that was because he was focusing as hard as he could with the distraction going on below. In fact, it was actually quiet at the moment. A bit too quiet for the three inhabitants downstairs. Of course, that was because Lan wasnt paying attention to the footsteps coming from downstairs all the way up to him.

The bottle was near him on a low table with paint strewn about, its glowing dark cloud enough to make him c**k an eyebrow everytime he looked at it, almost imagining it had a personality of its own. Lan yawned and reached down, barely catching the handle. Lan lifted it up and eyed it cautiously. He had been keeping track of the odd thing for three whole days now, and nothing was easier then usual. Lan sighed, placing it back down and letting the swirling mist return to normal as it prodded around. It was so strange to watch at night. Usually when Lan couldn’t sleep he just got caught up in looking over at it and wondering if some spirit would pop out and eat him sooner or later from the bottle. Sona was interested by it to. The cat barely ever stayed away from it. Though at the moment he was occupied by their house guests, he usually made it clear that he was going to figure out the mystery of the bottle sooner or later. Hopefully they both would before the mystery totally destroyed their minds. Lan sighed, putting it back down again and rocking back and forth on the ladder to think about what he would do with the odd out thing.

"Laaaan!!!"

"Egaaah!"
Lan fell backwards off the ladder, his head hitting the floor with a very unsatisfying clunk. Upside down, he groaned, his feet up against the ladder and limp, the paintcans barely staying on their stand. Hopefully he didnt mess up his map. If he did...well then he'd be very unhappy. A face appeared over him, red and angry and Lan stared up at Willow, who was scowling like there was no tomorrow at all. Willow huffed. "Jeckals cheating again with his cheater money! Make him stop!" Lan....wasnt a very good babysitter. He had been left in the care of ten year old Willow and fourteen year old Jeckal for a day while the manager went out for business and he still couldnt get those two to keep it down. "Look, if you cant beat 'em join them...." Lan muttered. "Are you telling me to cheat?" Willow asked suspiciously. "As long as it keeps you away from the wet paint." Lan said with a shrug and an amendment to his previous statement. "Oh yeah." Willow looked up as Jeckal hopped up the stairs, his chocolate hair in his eyes.

"Whatever she tells you, shes lying."
He said quickly, then stopped and tried to hide a smile at the sight of Lan overturned on the ground. "Having fun down there?" He snorted before going back down and leaving Willow to grade his unfinished art. "Hows it going then? Still as bad at maps as you were when you first came to town?" Lan snorted and rolled over, getting back up onto the ladder and retrieving his lost paintbrush. Then Willow hopped down the stairs after one more relieving taunt and started another loud card war with Jeckal and Sona. Lan rolled his eyes and started to paint again, then dipped his brush in a lightblue paint and without a thought in his mind, drew a small cloud above the place where he had found the bottle. It wasn’t anything special, but Lan thought it would be cool to mark down the wall over the years with places of importance every once in awhile. After that, he doodled a small feline in the space where he had met Sona, an arrow and a heart where he lived, and a small menu where his work was on the map. It all looked rather nice, and Sona sat back and smiled before continuing on the actual map he had to do. Two hours more would probably be enough for him to finish and enough time for the three downstairs to cause enough chaos to makes the gods themselves cringe.

And yes, three hours later, Lan found himself tirelessly in the kitchen, raging up a storm as he cooked. The kids were way demanding. Willow wanted something sweet and chocolate-y, and Jeckal just wanted something really good and fried. Jeckal, of course was not too picky, but Willow was constantly telling him just how much she wanted. Finally done with half of it, Lan made an inward promise to never ever babysit again. Especially Willow. He could deal with her as long as he wasn’t cooking for her. Almost tripping over something, he fell into the room and placed the food down before saying something about “Enjoy!” and letting the two dig in at will. They really didn’t need to be looked after, just fed and given a place to stay. Other then that, Lan knew he could leave them on their own and knew they wouldn’t ……. Well, he couldn’t really say that. He could honestly say he knew they wouldn’t completely destroy his home atleast.

Walking back upstairs as he listened to Willow and Jeckal argue over which food was better, Lan picked up the bottle on his way out to the balcony with Sona who had finally decided to join him. Blinking as he was hit with a small droplet upon reaching the balcony, Lan looked up at the storm gray skies and watched as a light shower fell down over the city. Leaning on the balcony with no consious thought that he was getting wet, Lan imagined the ocean, and how it must have looked right now. He imagined faces of the traveling group, and wondered if they missed him as much as he did. Still, he couldn’t leave Amies. Amies had become a small haven to him, and he was still in touch with his old ‘family.’ But something had struck a chord in Lans heart when he had entered Amies, and he kind of knew that it would be a good place to stay for awhile. Traveling though sounded good on occasion. Maybe later, after he was ready for more adventure in the open world. Of course, he would always retreat back to this city, his home, and his new friends. Sona growled irritably, stepping around puddles and scratching Lans now completely soaked jeans. Lan glanced down and blinked, then started to laugh. He liked being in the rain, and Sona did not. Going back inside, Lan steered towards the bathroom and tossed off his shirt then replaced his clothing and wrapped a towel around his head, walking out just as the doorbell rang. Apparently Mr. Madison was back from his trip to take the kids home. Lan sighed as he went downstairs to open the door. It was a peaceful day for the most part atleast.

Waving goodbye to the older man and his kids, Lan closed the door and realized that Willow and Jeckal had left absolutely no mess. Smart kids. He thought, heading towards his bedroom and collapsing on the low to the ground bed with a sigh and a stretch. It felt so nice to be sleepy and lazy. Sona joined him and Lan remembered for the first time the bottle he had been carrying. Lifting it infront of him, Lan eyed it with a small smile. It was quite beautiful for something so small and troublesome. Whoever made it had a great sense in creation of things. Lan absently wondered if it was made of glass, or some mysterious thing he had yet to discover then put it away, letting himself slide into sleep without a care in the world.

Lan literally tumbled down the stairs that day in a rush. His face flushed and he groaned, landing on his a** for the billionth time. Rubbing his rump, the young adult stood up and stumbled forward, making for the wall and hitting it with a loud, almost unsatisfying clunk. Swearing enough to make a sailor proud, the man swept through the living room, checking under beanbags, in the couch, and in the kitchen on his way. Sona trailed after, half amused. Lan had gone to sleep early the other night, and because of his tiredness, Sona had had time to play around. And accidently roll the bottle down the stairs and into the bottom floor, lost in the sea of Lans stuff. Lan himself was pretty organized for one person, but he still couldnt find the swirling bottle he had been watching so closely the last two days. "How could I have lost that thing?" He cried to himself, searching the ground, the pantries, and the sink in desperation. He didnt know why, but losing the bottle was like losing treasure. And Lan did not like losing treasure. At all. Swearing again, the man got on all fours and peaked beneath the couch, trying to search for it.

Not there.

Pouting, Lan plummeted to the floor, his face in the carpet and his mind swirling with thoughts of where he hadnt checked yet. Sona meowed aimlessly, hopping onto the sofa as Lan sat up and groaned, his stomach roaring in disapproval of him not eating until he found the damned thing. Lan rubbed his eyes and looked left, and then right and stood up, stretching his arms over his head.
"I know its somewhere around here!" He said, suddenly determined to find it. Then his determination faultered. "But where to look..." He muttered, confusing himself as he thought logically of where to look next. Then it was a hailstorm of Lan running through the house at full speed, trying to dig it up from the mess of stuff he had left around as a result of not having cleaned up after moving in. He would clean up afterwards, because this was madness.

Lan sighed, pushing back his bangs and rolling his eyes. How could he have possibly have lost a bottle by letting it roll down the stairs? Lan almost froze on the spot as a knock sounded on the door.
"Laaaaannniiiii!" A voice whined from the other side and Lan almost facepalmed himself. The only adult he knew that was as old as he was came barging through the door, her ivory skin flushed with irritation. "Okay, you bisexual son of a gun, I've had the most hell-esque day on account of you taking a day off," Lan attempted to intervene and say it was the one day of the week that he didnt go to work but was once again ignored. "I've had Willow on my a** telling me what to do and the half assed part time chef cant cook for crap. I miss you!" She threw her arms around him and gave him a quick hug before letting go and crossing her arms. "So I decided to come by during lunch time and see what you were up to."

Lan sighed, almost thinking he had a day to think for once. First it was babysitting Jeckal and Willow. Then he had met Mia, who he was still trying to figure out. And no Dasity was bringing her girly unique-ness into the apartment. What next? Lan looked up at Dasity. She was about an inch shorter then him whenever they were seriously comparing eachother, but Lan almost always stumped and Dasity loved to cross her arms. The two were as close as two peas in a pod and had clicked on the first day. Dasity was completely okay with Lan being totally bisexual and not into the whole "boob package" as she liked to call it. They both got pushed around by Willow and loved to make fun of eachother at work. It was almost like they were brain twins that were seperated at birth.
"Hey there Dasity." Lan said, snugging her in a bear hug real quick as to say "Glad to see you." He looked around and sighed, then rubbed the back of his head. "Since...you're here...would you mind helping me look for something?" Dasity blinked and cocked her head to the side.

"What're you losing now Lani?"
She asked, ruffling his hair irritably. They both had a knack for losing things. So when that happened, they usually went around together searching for the said item. Of course, this time Lan wasnt too sure about how he would explain it to Dasity about the swirls. It was a magic potion he had bought from a mysterious hooded man......Lan crossed that idea off right away. The only organized person in the entire town he knew was Naki and he didnt know her well at all. Naki was the person who was in charge of catering over at the cafe, and also happened to be Dasity's half sister. Of course the two were constantly arguing. Dasity was the outgoing, tomboy, and Naki was the girly girl. Thus creating a clash. While considering this in his head, Lan didnt notice the important thing Dasity did. "Lani..." She said, laughing. "Is that it?" She pointed to Sona, who was rolling the bottle across the floor with his nose and twitching his whiskers ever so slightly.

Lan looked over, and sure enough, there it was.
"Sona!!" he cried, lunging for the cat and the bottle. Sona hopped out of the way as Lani clasped hold of the bottle and sighed in relief, its normal tendrils of smoke enrapturing his hands. "Thats...an odd bottle." Dasity said from over his shoulders. "I know...I found it a week ago." Lan said, completely honest. Dasity nodded. "Ne, Dasity. Dont tell anyone about this okay? I dont want any thieves in here." Lan looked at her, frowning a bit. Dasity nodded again, and sighed. "I dont know about you Lan. You're so wierd." Then she paused and ruffled her own raven hair. "But thats why I like you so much!" She added on. "I'll keep your secret, but tell me if you figure it out, okay?"

Lan nodded, smiling and laughed.
"Alright, alright." he said, before jumping back and blinking as Dasity screamed and frantically hopped around then started out the door. "Oh my god, I was supposed to be back at the cafe ten minutes ago! Mr. Madisons so taking this out of my salary! Gotta jet, see you later Lani!" Without even giving the poor guy sometime to reply, she ran out and hopped down the stairway. "Bai..." Lan said after her with a weak wave before sharing a glance with Sona. "You are so much more trouble then you're worth..." He mumbled, petting the cat behind its ears for the sake of being nice. Lan was a sucker for animals and was always too kind for them. Too kind that he was vegetarian on and off, atleast attempting to be because of his weakness for food. Speaking of which.....

Lan glanced down at his groaning, moaning, irritable stomach and let it guide him to the kitchen with Sona at his heals ready for some good ol' fish. Lan, of course, was looking for some yogurt and dessert. Sifting through his kitchen, Lan stuck a straw in his yogurt can and brought out a slice of cheescake he had made earlier that week. Stuffing some into his mouth, Lan blinked and hopped up onto the counter, placing the bottle near him and watching his cat hop up as well, chewing on whatever Lan had been so gracious to give him.

What an odd week.
"And its all because of you..." he said jokingly, staring down at Sona and the bottle as if it was an actual living thing for a moment. But it wasnt. Atleast, thats what Lan thought.

Unlike the fortunate Mia, Lan's bottle was much quicker to change. He had made his way back, and was now hopping across the stepping stones of the river, making small talk with himself about how mad his cat would be when he got home. He carried the bottle in his hand, and his bookbag was loosely stuck on his shoulder as he meandered in the middle stepping stone between the platform and the small hole in the wall. He kept on glancing up at the sky as if it would tell him something more about the bottle. Something felt strange that day, and Lan wondered what it could have been. His bottle had stopped swirling recently, and instead began to glow. Lan had been completely odded out by that, but atleast it was some progress, right? The young adult sighed, and glanced down into the water. It was clear, and he could see the knee deep bottom, fish occasionally floating through, their silvery bodies intriguing him for a split moment. And then he jumped as something loud sounded throughout the network of alleys and made him yelp. It was the first thing other then the birds to be heard that morning, and Lan knew later that it was just a bunch of crates falling over and over. Unfortunately, the young guy didnt have too great of balance, and before he knew it, he was falling backwards into the water.

Something painful hit his head and he let loose the bottle by accident to hold it and realize his head had been attacked by a stepping stone. If that was possible. Coughing up water as he surfaced, Lan hacked and rubbed water away from his eyes. Then he realized something missing.
"Ohhh....noooo...." He muttered, starting to freak out a bit as he searched the water for the small bottle he had dropped. It couldnt have been swept off by the current because well, there was none. "s**t!" He cried, rubbing back some of his now sopping wet bangs. "Hello?" A new voice chimed in, and Lan glanced over towards the sound of the voice. Sitting about chest deep in the water because of his small stature, a curious looking, duel eyed boy stared back at him, interest showing across his clear face. "Hey there....ack! I need to find that bottle!" Lan went back to searching, and the small boy frowned. "You're rude." He said grumpily, making a face at Lan. Irritated, Lan glanced over at the boy again.

"I didnt see you before. Where did you come from?"
He asked, eyeing the boy and letting a small thought cross his mind. Of course, it left it soon enough. There was no possible way he could be..... Lan would have noticed him in the water before though, since he had been searching so abruptly. And he was pretty sure he had glanced that way before the boy even showed up. Oh pray tell, what was going on here? "I...dont...know." The small child said, his voice a bit confused. Lans face faultered. Poor boy, had he lost something? Or gotten lost himself? "But!" He said suddenly, and Lan almost jumped back in surprise. Did this kid have a strange mood thing going on? He seemed to be angry one second, sad the next, and then completely perky. "I remember your voice.... I dont....recall where I came from exactly..." he rubbed the back of his head. "Actually I dont remember at all." Lans face faultered and the idea resumed its place in his head. "I just know that I've heard your voice before...something about a cat and coming home....the other stuff that you said is just blurry. So when I heard it again today, I followed it from under the water to you."

Lan knew it before he even had time to be rational. This kid had to have been the bottle. He knew for a fact that he only had ever talked about Sonare and going home around the bottle or around no one. He couldnt quite tell what he would do now. He would definately have to talk to Mia, and see what she knew. It didnt make sense to him....a bottle turning into a small boy? And was he supposed to take care of him? Yeah I suppose so... He thought, answering his own question. I found it and it was my responsibility....Sona you jerk... The first thing he knew was that he absolutely could not let this kid be put in an orphanage or out on the streets. And that only left one option. Taking care of him on his own. Lan had never been good with children, so he didnt know how this would work at all. Oh dear.
"So I guess you dont have a home to go to then?" He asked the small child. With a shake of his head, the multicolor eyed boy stared back at him, as if scared to know what he would say next. "Well, if I'm going to be taking care of you then I should atleast know your name." Lan said, rubbing the back of his hand and standing up. Then he extended a hand to the small child. For some reason, he felt attached to the kid. The bottle had caused him enough trouble. Now it seemed it was a child and he had to take care of it. That just meant more trouble.

Lan took a moment to look over the small child, wondering what his name was. He looked like he would reach Lans elbow, maybe a little higher if he tried. His eyes were silver and blue, and Lan was slightly intrigued by it. He wanted to laugh. So the kid had multicolored eyes, and he had multicolored hair. What a match. The odd clothing on him was slightly interesting, and Lan would probably have to lend him some of his own clothing once they got home so he could dry them before they made the poor thing sick. Wait. When they got home? Lan sighed inwardly. Looked like he had already made up his mind seeing as the way he was thinking was that of a new guardian. And that seemed to be just what he was, without even knowing it.

Lan rolled his eyes. Oh well. Some part of him said it was worth it. Like it would all turn out okay in the end. This adventure had really taken a turn for the odd-er.
"I'm Krinn...I think." The boy said. Lan smiled as Krinn took his hand and unsteadily stood up. "Nice to meet you Krinn, I'm Lan. Lets go before we both catch colds." Krinn blinked. "Whats a cold?" Lan faultered. "Oh boy...uhm...its a type of sickness." Again with the blinking. "Whats sickness?" Lan had a long way to go if he was going to be able to do this. Taking Krinn along, Lan started back home, wondering how this would go. Fate never let him think something was going one way, when infact it was going a completely different way. Lan didn’t know what to expect from this kid, and wondered what he had done to get himself in this rut. But then again, he thought it might be well worth it. Maybe something good would come out of doing this small deed of kindness with this kid who couldn’t be….all that bad. Lan was not good with kids though so that might make this sort of thing a “learning experience” for him. But that…..wasnt exactly his idea of fun. Oh well. Time to see what fate had in store for him. And for that matter, what he would tell the others. He wouldnt be able to leave Krinn at home because the poor kid didnt know anything about living really. Maybe Willow and him would get along....Lan absently wondered what happened to Mia's bottle. Had it done the same? Well that would be odd. Mr. Madison wouldnt mind Krinn coming to work, but there would be questions, and Lan would have no idea how to answer. Oh well, he'd get there when he'd get there. Dasity might understand a bit better....he was okay with telling her. Naki would probably thing Krinn was an adorable makeup doll and use him for her girlish needs and Jeckal was just...passive. Lan sighed. What would come next?

"Hey Lan?"

"Yeah?"

"You're hairs girly."

"...."

Boy, were those two going to have some fun times together.

welcome home, Krinn.

The sky was golden hues, blending with pink and mixing with purple. Light blue traced among the dancing clouds, creating a haze of color. Amies stood peacefully, its town about to go into a small rest and wake up again for the next eventful day. Everyone was going home, or already at home, enjoying their own time. The sea was calm, gently lapping against the shores of the beautiful place while the sky above reflected softly against the waves and calm ocean. The silence and peaceful aura of the town wove throughout the bodies and minds of the townsfolk. It was a good day indeed for the time being. The forests stood tall, casting shadows on the fields but posing no harm, or atleast giving the illusion of such for the moment. The market buzzed with shops that stayed open late, and the only sound among the street was the soft hum of others getting supplies before they headed off to home. Wherever that may have been. Music danced through the air, but even the musicians were packing up to enjoy their own evening. Among these, were three familiar with the town even though some of them were new to it.

Lan walked alongside Dasity that day, his eyes reflecting that of the sky above. He stared up at it as the three meandered along, Dasity in her casual summer clothing and Lan in his outfit that seemed to attract attention - both good and bad. The three were heading to Dasity's house, because Lan had left some important things over there and had needed to retrieve them. Of course, he didnt want Krinn alone, so the boy had been with him since morning. Over the course of two days, Krinn had met Willow, Dasity, Naki, and Jeckal. Even though he was still getting used to them, he knew who he liked and who he didnt. Dasity was okay with him, and so was he. The two got along well, though Krinn blatantly and moodily refused any girly interest Dasity lay upon him. For the most part, Naki and him were okay as well. Naki loved to put bows in his hair, which led to small arguements but nothing big. Willow, being the closest to his age, usually sat and talked with him, though the two had very big debates over things at times and Willow didnt know how to respond. Jeckal was passive, as usual, but liked the new company. Lan was happy, because it all seemed to be working out somehow in its odd way.

They were on the outskirts of the town, near where Dasity and Naki lived. They had inherited a small cottage from their parents, and they lived beyond the outer wall of the market. Lan, Krinn, and Dasity had to pass through a grassy field to get there, but that was alright because all of them didnt mind the prospect of chatting with eachother all the while. Among the field was a large, wartorn tower that was crumbling apart. Its concrete was interesting, and open to all, but most strayed away from it because what adventure could one possibly find in the old thing?
"Wow, the sky is beautiful to day." Dasity said cheerfully, adjusting her trademark goggles. She usually wore rather show off-y clothing, but that was alright since Lan leaned more towards the same gender. Krinn however, still wondered how she pulled it off. As the two argued over what was more amazing to see - the evening or morning sky - Krinn dropped behind, stopping in his tracks to eye the large, historic looking tower. It was like it had been frozen in time. Never to change again, and never to be different then it was as Krinn saw it. His instant gut feeling was to climb it and see how it looked from all the way up there. Lan had stopped, and realized Krinn wasnt following anymore.

Krinn had started toward the old tower, his hand on the building as he peered inside. Dasity trailed after Lan while the young adult walked over to the kid.
"Wanna go inside?" he offered, and Krinn looked over at him. "Of course." He said with a small humph, before looking back in it and starting to walk in. The spiral staircase extended high up, and all of them had to tilt their heads back to see it. Dasity raced past the two. "Race ya to the top!" She said with a laugh, skirting up the stairs. "You're on!" Krinn said, almost instantly joining in. Lan jumped at the sudden echo of noise. "Hey, wait!" he yelped, rushing after the two who were being completely competitive but making sure the other didnt fall the entire way up. By the time Lan had reached the top panting, Krinn and Dasity were already admiring the place. Lan did too. There was giant gap in the wall at the top, and the roof was no longer there for the most part. Blue-violet sunlight filtered through from above and infront and the clouds wafted openly overhead. Lan tilted his eyes towards the sky as Krinn leaned out and eyed how far up they were. Dasity just looked stunned. Sure, Lan and her had climbed the thing so many times before, but never had they seen it as amazing as this.

A half an hour later found all three of them on their backs amongst the concrete, having made a short trip to Dasity's and back for some things. Lans backpack was behind him, and they all laid down an a small blanket, eyeing the sky and playing a childish game.
"That one looks like an octopus." Krinn said, pointing upwards. Lan frowned. "It looks more like a shark to me." He said with a laugh as Krinn puffed his cheeks out in annoyance, even though he was enjoying himself thouroughly. Dasity laughed. "I think its an octopus! Two to one, Lan you have been overruled!" She highfived with Krinn across Lan then went back to eyeing the sky. The played this game for another hour before the stars came out and they all watched them thoughtfully. They had pointed out constellations and planets, and everything seemed so peaceful that it didnt feel like tomorrow there was going to be a great celebration and the town would be in an uproar. It just felt....relaxing. And everyone knew just how much someone needed that in their lives.

Lan had decided he would just bunk up with Dasity and Naki for the night as the three made their way to the two story cottage. Krinn would get his own guest room, and Lan would sleep on the couch. Of course that was fine with both of them and Naki because it was fun beng in the presence of others. Even though Naki enjoyed to paint peoples toenails in their sleep and Lan wasnt looking to forward to that. The night escaped by quickly, with Dasity and Krinn trying to play a boardgame unsuccessfully. In the end, they had both flipped the board over and sent pieces everywhere. Then after that it had been Lan and Krinn attempting to play cards while Dasity made drinks for everyone. That didnt go too well either. After awhile of staying up and enjoying eachothers company, it was finally time to go to sleep, and everyone wished eachother goodnight.

Tomorrow was sure to be eventful, but the day had been peaceful, readying them for what was to come.

Lan growled and frowned hard at Krinn. This was a first. The two had come to a heated arguement, Krinns voice shrill and angry and Lans just about to break from all of the tension in the air. Lan had given Krinn a lecture on him disappearing, and how it needed to stop before he got hurt because of it, or got lost. Kidnapped, killed, attacked, Lan had given him a list of things that could happen, trying to make the kid understand that running off like that wasnt something a small child was supposed to do. Not on their own. And of course, Krinn had retaliated. The two were having a glaring war in the middle of the living room and Sona had gone to hide under the couch. There was an unexpected shower going on outside, and Lan was too upset by Krinn's own dense head to think anything of it. He glared at the boy, his hair falling across his hurt eyes with dark shadows to illuminate the anger at the boy who refused to listen. Only a short amount of time together, and they were already raging a war against eachother.

"Krinn, I only want to keep you from getting hurt!"
Lan snapped loudly, making the boy flinch and glare at him in return. How had it ended this way again? It had to have been atleast a day after he had disappeared with Sable. Krinn had come home unhappily and the tension between them had burned savagely forever since. Now it was just becoming visible as Lan tried to make the dust child understand that it wasnt smart to do what he did. But it didnt seem like it was getting anywhere, and Lan wanted to call it quits and leave the tension until morning. "Why should you care?! You were off with that Mia girl anyways! Its not like you really tried to keep us from danger at all so why are you preaching to me now about it?!" Krinn snarled back his dangerous two toned eyes burning into Lans own. The two could feel the stress waying them down as the wind picked up outside, howling dangerously.

"That was only so we could discuss things! That didnt mean go off and try to get yourself killed!"
Lan snarled back, his vicious tone biting into Krinns defense. Lan had never talked to him like that before, but then again, Lan was angry, and that meant he wasnt aware of himself at the moment. Krinn put his hands on his hips and glared at Lan. "I was just exploring! And I wasnt alone!"

"She could have gotten hurt too! Krinn, you have to listen to me! I dont want you getting hurt when you run off and do whatever it is you do!"
Lan felt like he was repeating things over and over again. Krinn felt like his heart was melting. If he even had a heart. By this time, he had realized he wasnt normal. Nor was he probably anything human. Lans declaration made the boy retreat, his eyes flickering with anger and unhappiness. "You shouldnt care, you arent my parent!" Krinn snarled at him, wanting to run away from the arguement there and then. Why couldnt they have gotten along well that day? Why couldnt it have been alright, like the three days when he had first been with Lan? He didnt understand any of this. Was he supposed to? The world was so confusing to him. There was still so much he didnt get, and so much he had yet to see. The dust child flinched back as Lan literally screamed. "I'm the closest thing you've got Krinn!" He snapped, looking pathetically at the boy as if saying that would make him understand. "You act like you dont want me to be though!" He said spitefully, unhappy that the boy didnt act like he even knew Lan only wanted to let him grow up without anything horrible happen to him, like it had in Lans own past.

Krinn looked like a knife had driven itself cold and straight into his side and backed up a step.
"Krinn...." Lan realized he had been a bit overreactive and stepped forward to apologize for his harsh words. But Krinn was already making a mad dash for the door and by the time Lan had rushed after the other, the child was already down the stairs and into the rain. "s**t! Krinn!" Lan cried out, making for a mad dash for the stairs. But the kid was already out of his sight. Punching the wall, Lan moaned low in his throat and sank to his knees. What kind of guardian was he if he couldnt even keep track of Krinn? Sona timidly poked his head out from under the couch, watching Lan get to his feet and rub his eyes. Then the thought of Krinn getting into trouble struck him and he bolted like a hare from a hungry wolf, almost crashing into another person who lived in the apartment. "Careful its slippery out there." She called to Lan before shaking her head and sighing. "Teenagers..."

Lan had been searching everywhere. His heart was beating like a jack rabbit and he sprinted around the corner as evening fell on the silent city upon water.
"Damn it all...." He swore vividly, letting his mind run around. He had visited the cafe, and all of the places Krinn would have enjoyed. Where would the boy be at this time?! Lan turned a corner and put his hands on his knees, panting from all of the running. He had only felt like keeling over and dying like this when he had been chasing Sona for the first time. Staring ahead, Lan rushed along, coming to the street where the water lay straight beyond it, and the ocean itself. The docks werent far off, and some of them stretched out clear and far, making themselves known though no ships were docked upon them. Thats when Lan found him. The heavy padding of his boots against the wood made the boy at the edge cringe and wrap his arms tighter around his legs. Lan puffed out short pants as he got near him. "Krinn, oh thank god you're okay..." he said, the light shower starting to thin and end.

Cold to the touch, Krinn sat at the edge of the dock, waves lapping against his bare feet wildly. Lan realized they were cut from running and sat down beside Krinn, putting a comforting arm around the cold child.
"Hey look, I'm sorry about what I said..." he muttered, ruffling Krinns hair in an older brother sort of way. "But I really do mean it when I say I just dont want you to get hurt. I mean, it is sort of my responsibility to keep you safe." Krinn stubbornly shifted his head to one side, sniffing loudly. Lan regretted his earlier fight with Krinn with a burning displeasure. The dust child could be a bit moody and overreactive at times, but Krinn was a good kid, and made Lan happy to be around at times. He didnt mind the prospect of the fact that he had never wanted kids before Krinn came along. Afterall, it was a bit of fate in some way he guessed.

"Do people who care about eachother get into fights a lot?"
Krinn asked, rubbing at his eyes as he turned around to face Lan, his eyes reflecting a shattered raincloud. Lan chuckled a bit and shrugged. "Yeah, they do." He said, patting Krinn before standing up. "C'mon, lets get home and get those feet tended." he said, gesturing down to Krinns bare feet. The boy had ran a long way, no wonder his feet were scratched up. Lan felt guilty about it, and swept Krinn so that he was sitting on Lans shoulder, one of his arms on Lans head to balance himself off as the two started on their way home. "I dont like....arguing with you..." Krinn admitted, his voice saying it all. They were both regretting their arguement. "You're right....You probably are the closest thing to a parent I have, and I guess its normal for you to worry..." Krinn glanced up at his small friend and smiled a bit. Krinn was really reflective apparently as it was. Of course, that was just one of the many things to expect from the unpredictable kid.

"I shouldnt have acted so riled."
Lan admitted as they reached the apartment. "I didnt handle the situation very well at all...." He looked up as they entered the apartment and Lan set Krinn down on the couch and retrieved a small first aid kit. Krinn pouted and puffed his cheeks unhappily as Lan bandaged and put medicine on the cuts to stop any infection from getting in. Lan sighed and smiled at Krinn, holding out his hand. "How about we make a deal? I'll be more trusting of you and that you wont go running off to your doom if you dont go running off so much without me around to keep an eye on you until you're older." Krinn frowned, contemplating it. Then he shook Lans hand. "Deal, as long as we get to go to the bakery tomorrow for some cupcakes." Lan laughed and poked Krinn in the nose as he stood up. "Deal." He said loftily, and the two resolved the conflict that had arisen so irritably that morning.

"One, two, three, four..." Lan muttered, slamming his game piece down on the cardboard game. Krinn was looking at the paper money Lan had dealt out to him earlier with a frown on his face as he counted it then put it down. The two had been playing games of all sorts all day long, sweating and panting as the heat flared through the apartment. The temperature had to have been well over ninety that day in Amies because it felt like a volcano's inards in the household. The game they had picked up as soon as Lan had made smoothies was one that was quite similiar to that of "monopoly." Lan and Krinn both had made a warzone of areas on the board where to would be dangerous to step for either one of them. Krinn had learned quite quickly how to play, and unfortunately for Lan, he was pretty damned good at it.

Lan slid one card out from the chance pile and flicked his eyes over it then groaned. This was his fifth time!
"I'd better get doubles again..." He said, moving his small figurine to the jail tile. Krinn snorted in laughter. "Good luck with that~" He said, rolling his own dice as the game went on. One, two, three, four, five si- Lan howled with laughter, sipping at his drink and fanning himself with his cards. The two were completely sweaty, and dressed in as little as they could get down to without looking slutty. Lan had on board shorts and a white tanktop that was sliding off his shoulders. Krinn was dressed in a tanktop as well, and his shorts were a bit large on him since they were actually Lans until Lan could go out and buy him more clothing. All the windows in the apartment were open and Sona was lolling about on the ground, the heat making him unhappy. Even the air conditioner didnt do much more then blow a cool breeze on them every once in awhile. Of course, the owner of the apartments was being a jerk and had put off the air conditioning repair for atleast three of the hottest months out there. Lan considered the fact that he was just trying to kick everyone out.

The two stared vividely down at the jail tile, with both of their pieces on it. Lans face contorted into displeasure as the dice were passed to him. The game had been going on for awhile, and the only tiles left to buy were on the far side of the board. Krinn had gorged on tons of hotels to make Lan pay harshly if he was to land on one of them. Of course Lan had done the same and now the two sat, attempting to get doubles and get out of jail. Two and a three. Lan sighed in defeat.
"Here ya go." He said, handing the dice to Krinn. Rolling, the two glanced down at the spinning dice in anticipation. Sevens!! Well actually a four and a three, but still.... Lan laughed. "Too bad this isnt gambling or you'd be a natural." He said, swiping the dice up with a smirk. Krinn raised an eyebrow and frowned in confusion. "Didnt you say gambling was bad?" Lan shrugged. "Of course it is, but if you keep rolling sevens like that..."

Lan rolled and sighed. No lucky doubles for him either. Though when Krinn rolled, two ones showed and he threw his hands up in delight.
"Aha!" He said, moving his character out of the jail cell. Lan pouted, laying on his side with one elbow in the ground, his arm propping his head up as he rolled and got out of jail. Now it was just a matter of who got where first. Krinn rolled next, striking a three and counted it off, moving his character. Then he glared and stared at the land he had landed on. Lan had totally decked the spot out with three hotels, and now Krinn was landing on it. Staring hard at the board as if it would melt and disappear, or atleast Lans spot, Krinn looked at Lan irritably. "Haha, sorry Krinn...." Lan said, laughing at the boys misfortune.

Krinn fanned himself and linked two fingers under the rim of the board as Lan turned to suck on his straw, drinking up the delicious strawberry smoothie. When the guardian turned back towards Krinn, there was a board in his face as Krinn flipped it rather dramatically, sending pieces falling everywhere.
"Hey I was winning!" Lan said through laughs as he choked on the last of his drink. "Exactly!" Krinn said back in triumph at the fact that no winner was now able to be declared. "No fair." Lan said, reaching across to ruffle the kids hair. "Werent you the one who said lifes not fair?" Krinn reminded him, batting away at his guardians hands before the two sighed contently and fell on their backs. The heat was really starting to get to them. Krinn, being a a bit more partial to anything wet and rainy, did not indulge in such days that much and he would only ever do so if they were going swimming or exploring. Sunshine flittered in and Sona purred as he found a spot where it wasnt too hot and wasnt too warm.

"Oh great, now we have to pick them all up!"
Lan said with a laugh accompanied with a groan as he rolled onto a piece and yelped. Krinn laughed and looked around the living room, childishly getting lazy as Lan started to retrieve pieces. It wasnt as hard as it could have seemed and after the boardgame had been put away, the two sat lazily, drinking cold drinks and basking in the open sunshine. "Okay, the next time a day comes around like this we need to find a more productive way to get arounnnndd and keep cool.....maybe we can just bunk up with Shuuhei in his freezing house." Lan said tiredly, falling back and over on his rump. Krinn nodded in agreement. "And maybe not alone, its funner when there are more people..." Lan cast an irritable glance over at Lan. "Are you saying I'm not entertaining?" Krinn looked sheepish and rubbed the back of his head. "Of course you're entertaining. I'm just saying its funner with more people!" The two made small agreements on that and stared at the ceiling. It seemed like they'd been doing that a lot lately.

"Baaaah~"

And that was it. Bah. What kind of creature made that sound? Bah? Krinn frowned down at the animal that as chewing on his pant leg and crossed his arms.
"What're you?" he asked the giant white fluff that had trailed along after him while he had waited for Lan to come out of the bookstore. It was early afternoon, almost lunch time, and they had made a quick stop for Lans need to get a new book to read. Thus he had let Krinn stay outside, so long as he didnt wander off. Now, the boy didnt have any intention of doing that what-so-ever. Oh no. Instead, something had come wandering to him. In the form of a 'bah'-ing, white fluffball with obsidian black eyes and a strange, innocent stare that made Krinn wonder what the heck it was. It had no collar, nor was anyone coming after it, so Krinn could only possibly guess that it was a stray and nothing more. But what was it? He'd never seen a creature like it in his short existance, and Lan had never told him about things like this. What was worse as that it was chewing on his pants.

"Baaah."
Krinn frowned at the noise and stuck his tongue out. It was all the fluffball had been doing the last ten minutes. Making wierd noises at him and nawing on him. What a wierd day. Looking up as Lan walked out the bookstore, the bell jingling behind him, Krinn blinked and looked back down at the animal-thing. "Alright I got a book, lets go get some - Krinn! What have you done now?" Lan jumped, seeing the fluffy thing and apparently it stunned him too, making Krinn frown and pout down at the fluff thing. "I havent done anything this time. This thing came up and started knawing on my pants." He said, pointing at it. Then he blinked and out of curiousity, asked "What is this thing Lan?" an facepalmed and groaned then put his hands on his hips, trying to figure out exactly how this was going to go down. "Thats a sheep. Its like a farm animal..." He sighed. "But I dont know where it came from. As far as I know, all the farms are on the other side of the town." he slid his bag over his shoulder and stared hard at the sheep.

"Great, can I keep it?"
Krinn asked, beaming. Lan let his face faulter for a moment. "We already have Sona, and I bet the sheep is owned by someone." he said with a sigh. "Lets go to the petshop and see if they lost their sheep." He said with a shrug, his stomach groaning unhappily at the thought of not getting food right away. Krinn beamed at him. Atleast he would get to go somewhere new. Though he was pretty sure he wouldnt be very happy if the sheep didnt come home with him. After all, it was chewing on his pant leg rather diligently. "I think its...that way." Lan mused to himself, beginning to walk. Krinn blinked and looked down at the fluffball. Sighing, he started to bring his leg forward. And the sheep just waddled along after him like it was no strange sight to see a sheep following a boy and attached to its pant leg by his mouth.

Finally arriving at what looked to be like a run down shop, Lan glanced with a frown at the door and entered, the bell jingling ever so slightly. The petshop was cozy and warm, and a pen was in the middle of the open room, Krinn walking over with the sheep tagging along to eye what was in it curiously.
"Old man?" Lan asked, looking astonished to see the familiar face of a man form the market staring back at him from behind the counter. Coughing a bit, the old man smiled. "Its been awhile. How're you?" He asked, a bird landing on his shoulder. "Doing...good. Ne, old man, have you lost a sheep lately?" He asked, looking around and then pointing to Krinns pant leg. "Ah yes, the sheeps been wandering around lately. Havent given it a name yet, but it likes to leave the shop everytime I take me eyes off it." He gave an old laugh and Lan smiled sheepishly, then glanced over at Krinn again.

"Well its a relief to know we found its home."
He sighed, looking over at the tanks of fish on the far wall. "Aye, in my old age its been hard to keep track of all 'em animals since mah grand daughters moved away with her husband." He said in return, Lan leaning on the counter next to him. "You mean you're the only one working 'round here?" Lan asked, looking astounded at the old man and wondering how he did it. "Ah, yes I do. Hard to find help around these parts nowadays. All this new fashion, and 'technology' stuff goin' on with the young'ns." He said, his old white hair scruffy and sticking out at odd angles. "Ah. Well..." He sighed, and the old man sighed along with him. Then they both blinked as Krinn turned to them, a cat purring in his hands.

"Ne, old man."
He said, taking on Lans way of calling the man that. Though it was his name to Krinn atleast. Because Lan called him that and all. "Can I help out around here? Lan says I should get out and do more then kick his a** around town all day." He paused. "Even though its fun." The old man chuckled and Lan let his face faulter. "Krinn, stop using such foul words. Its not....er......appropriate." The guardian tried but Krinn gave him a glance that said 'why?' and 'you do it too' before looking at the old man again. "So can I?" He asked eagerly. Lan had always knew the kid had a soft spot for animals. It was just...part of his nature. Who knew someone who came out of such a moody bottle could be such a caring young fellow. The old man laughed. "Of course you can my dear boy. As long as its okay with Lan." he said. And then Lan had to shield his eyes from the infamous puppy dog glance. It was so....childish. "Alright fine. On some days of the week you can come to help out so long as you dont get in trouble." And with that, Krinn jumped with joy. "And I mean it when I say dont get in trouble!" Lan tried to enforce the sentence but was ignored. "So can I come in tomorrow to help out?" Krinn asked, looking excitedly at the two.

"Of course."
The old man nodded as the bird flapped its wings. "Why dont you give that sheep a name while you're at it. I highly doubt its gonna go anywhere soon. Maybe it'll be your pet while you're around the shop." He said, waving it off. Krinn looked like he was in heaven. While the old man and Lan made small talk about random things and how it would work out with Krinn. Leaning over so he was crouched down infront of the sheep who had miraculously let go, Krinn blinked towards the obsidian black eyes. "Hmm..." He thought, frowning at the thought of a name. "I'm naming him Nal." He said loudly, cutting through the conversation between the two. Then Krinn turned and moodily stuck his tongue out at Lan with a smile. "Na - oh." Lan let his face faulter and chuckled. "Okay, works for me." He said with a shrug, wondering why Krinn had named the sheep his name backwards.

"Hey Krinn, I'm going to go get some shopping done and bring us all back some food, so you stay here with the old man until I return, alright?"
Lan asked, standing and stretching. Krinn glanced up blinking. Lan was gonna leave? Well, so long as he brought back food it would be all good. "Alright." He said then glared at Lan. "So long as you bring me back some dessert." He said moodily. Lan sighed, rubbing the back of his head before opening the door. "I'll do my best. Arent kids your age supposed to not threaten their elders like that?" He asked before ducking out the door. Krinn pouted at the words Lan left but knew he was just joking. The old man let his bird flap to a perch near the door. "Wanna do a little explorin' ta get to know the shop, child?" He asked, stepping down from the stool and walking over to pat Krinn on the head. The child blinked. "Of course." he said, always ready to meet new things.

The first thing the dust child noticed about the old man he would be helping was his accent. It was thick and outlandish, but somewhat interesting. Almost as interesting as Cadas father figures dialect, who he was content in thinking was a super villian in secret. Leading him around the shop, the owner introduced many varieties of cats and dogs to Krinn, of which he took likings and dislikings to almost immediately. A shetland and husky mix had wagged its tail and knocked the boy over backwards, but it was all good between the animal and the human, though with a certain baby cow they were taking care of, it was not. The thing would obsessively grunt if Krinn even dared to get too close to the other. The old man just said it would take time as the cow was a rather moody figure - just like him. Continuing along to the back wall in search of new things, Krinn blinked and stared in awe at the tanks that were arranged like a small aquarium in the back.
"Wooow~" He mused, glancing at the different fish.

"What are they?"
He asked, turning his eyes to the old man as he observed them too. "They be fish." He said, grinning at Krinn before glancing around the room at the tanks. "They take up the oceans population, 'long with dolphins and whales. The occasional shark as well." Krinn blinked, having never heard of such wonderous creatures. What did they look like? And how big were they? Would he ever meet one? Krinns mind bubbled with questions that were much cleaner then the subject of sex and what not, though his mind still held curiousity for it. "Big and small, they inhabit the ocean like we inhabit the land." The old man continued, letting Krinn watch and admire the gracefully moving creatures. "There are more then we have discovered so far, and there will probably always be one species we'll never lay eyes on. They come in different colors, shapes, sizes, and each have their own unique trait. If you just look close enough. In many ways, we are exactly like them fish." Krinn turned to the old man, the sheep following at his heels. "You're comparing us to fish?" he asked, not realizing the full concept of what the man was saying. With a laugh, the old man patted his head and walked back to his desk. "In due time my lad, you'll understand." He said, chuckling.

Krinn pouted, not liking that he didnt get whatever the man was saying at the moment before the bell jingled and Lan walked back in, holding two bags in his hand.
"We're havin' noodles and chicken for lunch!" he declared before screaming as he was bowled over by a hyper active husky shepherd mix. The same one that had turned Krinn over as well. Laughing in between licks, the man managed to say "Theres enough for you too!" Krinn found himself laughing at the scene and wondered how long he would have to wait until he fully grasped what the old man was saying. In due time? Did he really have to wait? But then again...waiting wasnt all that bad, he supposed. Not when his life was turning out to be okay, with Lan, and all of the others.

Yeah...
Krinn thought, rolling his eyes and swapping up the food before the dog got all of it and placing it on the counter where the old man laughed.

I guess I can wait to understand.

Lan screamed. Literally screamed. The customers turned their heads towards the distractive noise and almost burst out laughing. Lan and Krinn had come to work ready for the usual customer once every thirty minutes thing, where there was a comfortable atmosphere in which for Lan to work while Krinn sat with Willow. Of course, Dasity, Naki, Jeckal, Mr. Madison, and another chef by the name of Shuuhei had come to work thinking. But no. It wasnt even tourist season, but they were getting loads of customers. The entire back deck was filled because of the beautiful rays of sun coming down in shards, and as soon as one customer left another filed in. Lan had been half assisting the kitchen, and half bringing out food since two of their coworkers had decided it was the perfect day for a break. Now. Lan wasnt one who usually screamed, but in this case, he was allowed to. Naki had been so keen on not running into anyone with her large dessert that was headed for table three that she had accidently run into Lan. With. The. Cake. Now Lan had a giant cake stuffed down his throat, choking him and making him cough and spit and hack rapidly. Everything had frozen in time as Lan reeled back and knocked into Shuuhei, who had been carrying a jello dessert, decorated with fudge cake. There sure were a lot of orders for the sweets that day. Then again, they were known for their wonderful service, and absolutely to die for snacks and desserts.

Anyways, on with the story. So. Lan knocked into Shuuhei while choking. Now dont underestimate Shuuhei. The guy has wonderful balance. But it just so happened there was a chair in the mans way, and with a strangled cry for help, he flipped onto the table and the dessert went flying. Right into Dasity's way to revealing shirt. The girl squealed as red jello oozed on her face and chest and glared. Revenge was hers, as it was quite within her personality to get back at people for throwing things at her. Whether it was intentional or not. Throwing the spaghetti she had been bringing to table nineteen, she screamed "Oh this is war, Shuuhei!!!" Again, the target dodged just in time, Lan shoving his head down into someones salad to miss it, and instead hit Krinn. Square in the head.

Oh. No.

The boy and Willow stared coldly at the people around them, Willow only because it had gotten on her new dress. Then Mr. Madison walked in, and the place became absolute mayhem, while the customers either stayed glued to their seats, or left as soon as they could. This was a typical mishappening within the cafe, and any regular would know that you were always to expect the unexpected even on the most normal of days. The only other time when it had turned into mayhem like this was when the booze got mixed up with the normal drinks due to Willows misbehavior. Luckily, Lan and Dasity had gotten to every table before the small kids had. By the time the intensity of the battle had reached its full potential, Lan and a few others had ushered all of them outside, trying to excuse the mess. Though there was no real way to explain how much they were sorry because Lan and Naki had run in to watch the war before they could even complete a full sentence to the entire group of onlookers and customers.

"You're going to pay!"
Dasity screamed from back inside the cafe, chasing Shuuhei across the floor with a salad in hand. Lan watched this, sitting on a surprisingly clean table. The floor was covered in all different types of sauce, and in all of the mayhem, the tables had been pushed out of the way, making it an open battlefield. Krinn and Willow were trying to dodge Dasity as she went on her rampage with Shuuhei and Naki smudged a piece of chocolate all over the owners face.

"Ten dollars says Dasity'll get Shuuhei in the face."
Lan said, leaning over towards Jeckal. "Deal. Dasity has horrible aim." The younger brother said, his eyes glued to the scene that was playing out infront of them. Shuuhei had literally fallen over a table to dodge a plate of calamari and was now using a platter as a shield. "Go Dasity! Get him in the face for the sake of money!" Lan said loudly, laughing as Dasity gave him a thumbs up before running after the man again.

"Dont encourage her Lan!!"
Shuuhei screamed, throwing himself over the bar. Of course on the way down, a pie flopped ontop of his mussy silver blue hair and Lan shot up his arms then turned. "Pay up." He said, laughing as Jeckal sighed and handed him the winning money. Jeckal glanced at his father as the man put his hands on his hips and stared haphazardly at the two who had started the fight. Lan and Naki. The two gulped deeply as the rest looked on in entertainment.

Boy this was going to be a very long day.

Two hours later found Lan and Krinn racing Jeckal and Willow across the floor of the cafe, a soapy rag in their hands. Naki was whiping down tables and Dasity was shoving everything back into place. Finally finished, everyone sighed and leaned back, and soon enough, everyone was looking up and going out on the town for a fun night. Everyone had gotten into a change of clean clothing they kept at the cafe for no real reason. Some called it 'emergency clothing' in which they had originally thought had been for the purpose of getting trapped in the cafe. But now it was because they had all brought on their own demise and were paying rather well for it. Dasity brushed off her baby pink and blue top, while Krinn pulled at one of Jeckals shirts - which looked like it may well have been from Willows closet. A pink 'O' replaced the normal 'o' in the word "frog" which was scrawled in light blue against the white of the short shirt. Lan had managed to smuggle a bandana from Shuuhei and a tanktop and jeans. His sandals clicked against the sidewalk as he punched the chef in the shoulder and laughed at one of Krinns remarks.

The day had gone by surprisingly well, despite the food war. A smile danced across everyones face once in awhile as they idled down the sidewalk, debating where to go next. Ideas were being spewed here in there, everyone entering their own comment.

"Bowling!"

"Dancing."

"How 'bout dinner?"

"Lets go horseback riding!"

"Strip club?"

"Willow and Krinn are too young!"

"Whats a 'strip club'?"

In the end, they had decided on a scrumptious dinner and a game of bowling. Lan had been tricked into a game of poker, with the younger of the group watching rather entertained when crazy bets were laid down on the table. Their food arrived, and everyone was scarfing it down before they could even give out a full sentence in which to thank the others. Lan had lost a card match to Shuuhei and was now being forced to go with the other strip for a night out on the town - strip clubs and all - on a weekend. The two sisters lost a bet in which they had to dress as the opposite for an entire week. After awhile, they ordered outrageous desserts and scarfed them all down in a war of spoons and sporks.

Krinn yelped at the hot burn of pepper in his mouth and Lan burst into a chuckle as the boy gulped down some water. The night passed by like the wind itself, quick and almost unrealistic. They had a good time together, and Lan had to carry Krinn half way home because he had fallen asleep by the time they had gotten done. Placing the sleeping child in bed, Lan walked down the stairs to the living room, Sona on his shoulders and fell onto the couch breathless. Opening his eyes, Lan stared at the ceiling and smiled a bit. Maybe the bottle and Krinn werent such a bad thing after all. Who knew. Maybe it was fate, trying to get him to learn a new lesson. But no matter, Lan knew that it was alright that it had happened, because so far, he was fine with it. And Krinn was quite a ball of fun...when he wasnt mad atleast. Smiling once more - perhaps at his own antics even.

"Night guys...."
He muttered, his eyes flickering closed even though the faces and the sounds of his old life flew back to welcome him in his dreams. One day, maybe Krinn would meet them. One day, Lan might be able to travel with them again. One day.

One day...

here by my side, a new colour to paint the world.
never turn your back on it.

Lan sat back in his chair, a paintbrush held loosely between his fingers. They were dappled with color - golds and purples, blacks, blues, reds, and green. He had been working on the canvas all night long, and said project was definately much more interesting then he would have thought at first. The canvas had started out as white, and now was a display of color arranged to look like his two, unaware models. Krinn and Sonare were playing around in the living room, a smile etched onto the dusts face for the first time since that morning. Sonare had been trying to steal his food all day long, and the two were seemingly in a small agreement while Lan sat back and sketched. Then he painted. Soon it was more then just a doodle. And the other occupants of the house had never even noticed. Lan smiled to himself, adding another shade of blue to the torso of Krinn in the painting. He had captured a smile on canvas. And now it would last forever. The guardian had slowly been coming to terms with the fact that he had lightened up considerably since Krinn had come into his life, along with Sonare. Not to say the circus hadnt been a wonderful place for him. But now it just felt like....home.

The word itself sounded so foreign on his tongue that the young adult didnt even try to say it. Looking up from his work, Lan realized that Krinn had disappeared from sight. Blinking, he tilted his head to the side, wondering blankly where the other had gone. Then, Lan let a scream tear through his lungs when something grabbed him by the shoulders. A peel of laughter steadied him though. With a slight frown, he turned his head to come face to face with Krinn, who was now leaning on him with his small child hands on the others shoulders.
"You little brat." Lan said good heartedly, bringing up his paintbrush and putting a glob of blue right on the others nose. "Hey!" Lan sniffed and rubbed it off - or atleast tried to. It didnt seem to work and Lan rolled his eyes at the attempt.

          "What're you painting now?"
Krinn asked, leaning over the others shoulders to get a clear view of the picture. Lan pushed the others head with playfully, having had been pushed to the side by the child. He could only imagine how pushy the kid would be when he turned into a teenager.

          "Oh wow its me."
Krinn said, his eyes dancing with interest. His gray hair swept over an ear and out of his face. A small clip also held some of the hiar up. Stars glittered on it, almost as if they speckled his hair naturally.

Lan let a chuckle slip through his lips as he leaned forward to keep working on the undertones of grey and blue for Krinns features in the picture on the canvas.
"No its the devil." He said slyly, waving his brush around in the air for a moment. Krinn just shook his head, Lan snorting a sneeze when the hair that seemed to represent a mist covered morning flared in his face. "Nu uh." He said simply, and pointed to the cat in the picture. The cat who was pawing gently at Krinns face. "Thats the devil." He paused and smiled, pointing to himself. "This is me."

Lan rolled his eyes and quickly stood on his feet, picking Krinn up and slinging him over his shoulder.
"Oh really? You must not have gotten the memo!" He said, laughter in his eyes as Krinn cried out in surprise while Lan twirled the two of them around, making Krinn dizzy and Lan puff with air. "Because I dont think Sona even compares to you." Krinn let a rare giggle escape from his mouth as he was thrown onto the sofa. Instantly sitting up, the younger pointed at Lan and imitated the old man. "You, sir, have worse eyesight then I do." He rasped as well as he could before returning his voice to normal. "Because I dont look a thing like evil!"

Lan shook his head and sat down, ruffling the others hair with a small look of entertainment.
"Oh really? Well, I suppose so." He said, his golden black hair wavering around in the sunlight. The two took a bit to sit back and huff out their laughter with smiles as the speckled form of Sonare came to join them. Standing, Lan stretched then extended a hand back to the other and pulled Krinn up from the sofa. Lan sniffed once more. "I'm going to go get rid of the clown nose you gave me!" He said, poking Lan in the head before running off to the bathroom. "Clown noses are traditionally red." Lan said as the door closed before going to sit down once more at his canvas.

As water from the bath room turned on and sounded through the apartment, Lan sighed and glanced over the entirety of the canvas, looking for any mistakes. The background was simply a decoration of watery colors, making the centerpiece stand out. That being a dazzling image of Krinn on with his elbows on the floor, his chin resting in an upturned hand while Sonare pressed his nose to the others in attempt to cheer him into giving him some food. The moment itself had happened for barely more then a second, but Lan had found it amusing and worth drawing instead of anything else. Looking up as a cry emmited from the bathroom, Lan stood up, not expecting anything majorly threatening to be alone with Krinn. Reaching the door, he shoved it open and stared without a thought in his mind at the other, who had somehow managed a backflip into the bathtub.

"If you wanted a bath, you could have just as easily asked me."
He said, helping the dust child out and up onto his feet. "I didnt want to interrupt you." Krinn said in a joking manner, brushing himself off and adjusting the clip in his hair. Lan had to admit it was quite girly to do so, but then again, hanging out with Dasity and Willow did that to a kid.

"You're ridiculous. Now go to bed. Its past midnight."

          "Its only nine o'clock!"

Lan put his hands on his hips. There was no getting past that child was there?
"Fine." He sighed, pushing Krinn out of the bathroom. "Just let me finish my painting in peace." He reprimanded, letting the end of his sentence trail with laughter. Krinn just stuck out his tongue and smiled. "Fine, but I get to see the finished project in the morning." He said before running off to play with the cat.

Sitting down for what seemed to be the third time that night, Lan sighed, picking up his brush and pallet again. Nights like these always seemed to be the most interesting. When absolutely nothing happened but everything begun. Sighing, he sat down the paint brush and picked up a small black pen, inscribing a few lines at the bottom.

'one smile captured. a thousand more to find.'
