Quote: With new races appearing at what appears to be on a somewhat regular basis, the topic of cultural assimilation has been a popular one. Should new races assimilate to match the rest of the world if their beliefs are drastically different? Is it possible to have people exist in harmony even with clashing belief systems? Your student is encouraged to use examples in their response. Write a 100 word minimum response from the perspective of your student answering Tethys' questions
Prompt Response:
When Mr. Tethys’ eyes landed on her and he motioned for her to speak, Aleanette stood with a soft clearing of her throat. “I believe that each and every person can, indeed, coexist in harmony despite differences such as religion or race. That being said, I also believe that a culture should not have to assimilate to better fit in with an everyone else because each and every person has a right to do or believe what they wish. On the other hand, without some degree of appropriate assimilation, one would walk out of their home to fanatics and propagandists on every corner.”
After a short pause, the hybrid gave a curt nod, “In summary, I believe that a degree of cultural assimilation should be reached, though not so drastic a change that would possibly endanger a people’s heritage.” Once done, she quickly sat back down, her courage used up after feeling her classmates eyes on her.

Prompt Response:
Calypso listened to the question then waited till she was called on, "I don't think anyone should change their traditions and culture to fit in. It's what makes us all unique. Yeah, there will be misunderstandings but that's why we are learning this. We are learning to be accepting of others. As an imp, I am constantly told that I am too touchy and I lead others on... That's just part of being an imp just as much as giving a feather or a pearl to someone you like." She explained before rubbing her neck, "I guess what I am saying is that we shouldn't force anyone to fit inside the box.. We should educate ourself and learn to accept that we are all unique." She bit her lip, wondering if she had even really answered the question. Her mind was a wild mess inside so sometimes keeping focus was hard.

Quote: Tethys has been talking about "daily rituals" from various cultures with the students. What is one of your student's daily rituals? Do they recognize that it's a ritual? If they don't think they have any daily rituals, have them explain why. Write a 100 word minimum response from the perspective of your student answering Tethys' question
Prompt Response:
Sagi had many daily rituals. It all started with his hair. He would spend at least an hour brushing and styling his hair to look just right. After his hair looked pristine and silky, Sagi would move on to his make-up. Then he'd move on to his outfit. His outfit always took the longest time, but Sagi always took pride in his appearance. Perhaps the shy, timid boy was a bit more vain then he let on. It wasn't for other people, but for himself. Then, when all was said and done, Sagi would head off to school.

Thema didn't really do much as a daily routine. Did waking up and eating count? That was something that Thema could always count on. Sleep cycles, eating three square meals a day. Thema was all about eating ... you couldn't stop her from enjoy the food she wanted. She must have had an overactive metabolism. Keeping weight on was difficult for Thema. It felt like she had to eat 8 times a day not to lose 5lbs a week. It was difficult for Thema, but she was grateful that she could eat anything and everything she wanted without having to worry.

Those are daily rituals, right?." Other than that Thea wasn't sure what else. "Oh I read a story each night before bed, to help me get to sleep." She said in a cheerful tone. Then She sat back down to listen to the other student talking about their daily rituals. She was pretty sure she had other rituals but none were coming to mind at the moment so she would let others speak.

Prompt Response: The only thing that Andrew could think of as a daily ritual to him drew, chalk, paper, coal, didn't matter every day Andrew made something. "I do art every day, it's my daily ritual since sometimes I forget to brush my hair and stuff." You couldn't call something a daily ritual if you forgot to do it right? That wouldn't make sense and Andrew only remembered some stuff, he never forgot art. It was his thing and he loved it and intended to do it for as long as he lived, seemed to fit what a daily ritual was, it really kinda was a ritual to him.

So isn't that like blind assimilation? Not nothing much about that part of who I am? Not that my dad did it on purpose but the races all get mixed up and blended, things change at a natural pace." Least that was how Natsumi thought of it.

Prompt Response: Eirian thought a moment "I don't want harmful traditions brought to the below that will hurt others, but traditions that don't hurt others don't bother me, I wouldn't want more hatred to be directed towards anyone for any reason. That should certainly change if that is the case. Otherwise, I see no reason for others to change if it is not a legal problem for some reason." Eirian was very nervous she didn't like talking in front of the class and her thoughts were rather jumbled as she tried to figure out what to say. She sat down as soon as she could.

Prompt Response:
Ren sighed and barely resisted the urge to face plant into the desk. He was okay with history but this was branching more into Anthropology. It was definitely working his brain none the least. “People’s culture and beliefs are important. Seeing this school, I believe that harmony can exist with clashing belief systems if both sides work to see the others point of view. Nothing with happen if both races so I suppose a bit of assimilation is necessary but not to the point you lose everything about your culture. Take for example Geist’s. Geists often take things from their object of affection. It’s part of their culture. In other cultures, this would be considered theft. However, we as a culture learned more about their ways of life. We realized that it wasn’t malicious intent, most of the time, but a term of affection. We understood why the taking of the objects are occurring. Geists seem to be thriving pretty well in society. So yes Harmony can exist, you shouldn’t have to change everything to adapt but adaptation in some form must occur for everyone to work together.” Ren replied.

Prompt Response:
“This is a tricky question. I do not believe that anyone should have to drastically change their way of life just to fit the rest of the world. Culture is tied into what makes a race. Sure we have different traits but truly it is our beliefs. That being said, harmony is tricky. It depends on the culture. If it is a culture of animal sacrifice or even people sacrifice. We won’t understand it because we are made to treat life as precious. I think we would be horrified and try to change them. I remember the rally where the Slaugh and Cherub were being introduced. They had cultural viewpoints we clashed with and the Slauh and Cherub almost disappeared back into hiding. However if we were to understand the other culture better. Understand not everyone will have viewpoints that match up with our own. Harmony can be worked towards without sacrificing culture.” Mai replied with a response ready. Culture at her house and its lack of harmony were a big thing. She often wondered about how well the races really worked together. Well, that and her brother wanted to be a psychology major before everything happened. Hopefully that would be a good enough answer.

Prompt Response: Arcadia thought for a second, tapping her pen on her chin "I think everyone has the right to their own belief's, just because we think differently doesn't make our feelings any less than another nightmares. I don't think anyone should be made to change, but everyone changes a little to adapt to one another... I guess." she tapped her pen on the corner of her desk, "I remember when the Grimm's showed up, it was so fresh and new and they were so close to one another, I bet adjusting was really hard for them, but I like to think they were welcomed pretty well despite their differences, and I don't see why any other new races in the future should have a problem." She set her pen down satisfied with her answer, she was all for inclusion and mutual respect for all.

Prompt Response: Nevaeh pondered over the question. Daily rituals seemed like an odd idea. There were certainly some things that she did every day, but she didn't know if that was something that actually counted. She and her sister helped each other brush and do their hair for the day each morning. They used that time to talk to each other and she found it to be one of the best times of the day. That sounded like one of those daily rituals, if she had anything like that. Brushing your teeth every probably didn't count. That was just hygene. If you didn't do that, you were just kind of gross.

Prompt Response: Marco wrote down that he thought that everyone should be able to follow their own cultures, even if others thought they were weird after all as a nixie hallow he was kinda weird himself so who was he to judge someone else's culture. Like geist stole as part of their courting rituals, maybe nightmares and daydreams thought to steal something was wrong, but if they saw it as a show of affection that was something others should accept and understand. Not put down and judge harshly, Marco didn't really know much about nixie history since he was an orphan but he wanted to follow his own beliefs not what someone else told him to believe so it was only fair new races to the below could as well.

Prompt Response: Micari frowned she wasn't sure what to write, she didn't think that assimilation was good in most cases but she wanted many elves to change the way they treated others, she took a deep breath and wrote that down. Her kind the goblins had been treated badly by elves for a long time, Micari had left her family in the Above so she would have a chance to live her own life and not serve elves working as a maid or servant as many of her people ended up doing. Micari thought that the elves needed to leave behind the thought that they were better than everyone else.

But he guessed, he got up, Ran his claws through his hair, stretched, greeted Zowie his Plush raccoon and got dressed? Could those be considered rituals? To him it was just what he did, didn't feel ritualistic to him, Like say he didn't run his claws through his hair one morning... His day wouldn't be completely over? He figured that was going to have to be his answer, there were things he did each morning, but they weren't rituals to him.
