Shifting his attention to Justin as he approached Cecil gave him a shy smile.
"Well, I haven't shot myself.." He joked trying to make light of his own blunder at the casino. "...Yet. But it's working really well. Thanks for the help." Cecil truly appreciated it. While he wasn't completely comfortable with the shotgun it offered enough power in his favor it could very easily be the deciding factor between life and death and not just for him but for anyone else.
Glancing back at Austin Cecil caught the confused look but tilted his head when he didn't get a reply. "Is he alright?" There was concern in his expression as he turned to Liam. He knew the blast of the shotguns were loud, his own ears were ringing but he thought Austin had heard him. Maybe he didn't want to admit he was hurt?

They were looking at him again -- talking to him again? -- and Austin blinked hugely at them, both of his eyebrows raised slowly as he looked back at Cecil again.
"WHAT?" It was a shout, rising over the buck and boom as he fired his weapon again.
Another shot, this one better, more centered, and he couldn't help a pleased smile before turning to Cecil as he asked him a question.
Honestly, Liam could barely hear Cecil himself. His ears were ringing like crazy at this point, and he was pretty sire the only reason he could hear the big man was because he was standing right next to him. "I think so?" As far as he knew Austin was fine. He'd been fine at the hospital, and that was the last time he'd seen him until now. So unless he'd gotten hurt on his way back, it was just the ringing in his ears that was bothering him.
Austin shouted a question, obviously confused, and Liam brought a hand up to his ears, brows raising in question. Hopefully the older boy got his meaning. He was smart, he should.
At first, Justin was unsure about entrusting the shotgun to the pale haired man, reflecting on the situation at the casino. It seemed more of a hazard for him. But if there was one thing about the man when Justin looked at him, he knew that he would fight to protect. that was the deciding factor, the look in Cecils eyes. "I'm glad its working out for you. Just make sure you don't look down the barrel or nothing." he replied back casually, no tone of anger or annoyance, just mild mischief when he bumped his shoulder. Austin was staring and was screaming just as loud as the shotgun rounds that rang in his own ears. Justin with his capable fingers already pulled the hood on, even a thing barrier of cloth was better than nothing to cover his eardrums. "Nothing Austin!" he mouthed to the fellow blond.
Liam was quite pleased with his firing, beaming like a kid who won a big baseball game, Justin giving the guy a smirk and mouthed to him to keep firing. He himself was bracing for another shot, focusing around the area the others was going for and letting the buckshot fly where it may. Every shot was like a kick to the chest, his and the others.

They were making fun of him, he thought. Austin squinted at the lot of them, trying to make out their faces to clarify just how much fun. It meant that when he fired again, it went just a bit wide, not striking into the monsters core as it had up until this point.
The yell barely registered and Cecil knew then that Austin didn't hear him. He trusted Liam's word but just to be sure he rested the shotgun against his shoulder and brought up his hands so that his pointer fingers were facing each other and he began to twist his wrists to make the sign 'hurt' coupling it with a questioning look of concern. He didn't know if Austin even knew sign language but it was worth a shot.
Justin's words were the only thing that pulled his attention away, a nervous smile pulling his lips. "Hey, that was an accident." Though accidents seemed to be frequent anymore.
Trying not to pout about it Cecil positioned his shotgun against his shoulder again and took another shot as if to prove to Justin he could shoot something other than himself. Look see, no self harm. It was a Christmas miracle.
Oh, right. No glasses. Frowning, Liam turned back to Cecil and shook his head. "He can't see," he'd clarify. "And doesn't know sign language." At least he was 90% sure on the last one. It didn't seem like something Austin would dedicate any effort towards learning, whatsoever, without a damn good reason.
A twitch of a brow at Justin, the hint of a smile, and he brought the gun up again. Not a great shot, but he did hit it.

...okay, yes, they were definitely making fun of him, judging from the long glances that came his way, and that passed between them. Of course, those could also have just been in Austin's head -- but he would never assume that. Not over the idea that he was the subject of everyone's conversation.
With a frown, he pointedly focused back on the monster, taking aim and firing and ignoring them in a decisive kind of way. They didn't matter enough to steal his focus -- or, at least, that was the vibe he tried to give off.

Harvard had, predictably, walked into chaos. He looked a little worse for wear, a little of the kinf of rumpled that didn't necessarily come with fighting. But none of that stopped him from snaking his way through the throngs of people. The ...creature gave him pause for a second, but he darted forward, using his umbrella as though it were a fencing sword. A tendril slashed out, leaving a bloodied welt on his arm. As if his poor arm needed more damage. ********.
He ended up near Austin and took a moment to pause and rub shoulders with the other man. Leaning in, he spoke in Austin's ear, close enough that his breath ghosted over it. "Did you miss me, Austin?"

Austin definitely hadn't heard Harvard creeping up on him, hadn't noticed the slow approach -- so the first time he realized the other man was there was when shoulders bumped. He had his weapon raised, ready to fire, and the touch -- and the voice -- made the shotgun buck in his hand, striking damned near the core of the monster again. An accidentally amazing shot.
Not that he'd admit that.
At least he didn't yelp or scream, this time. Just that brief start, a jerk of his arms, and then he turned a squint on Harvard instead. He was frowning, now, definitely, vaguely resentful perhaps. He felt weak, and having Harvard there to witness it wasn't exactly his favorite thing.
"What if I say no?" His voice was still raised too loud. Enough to, probably, make Harvard wince.
Justin watched as Harvard decided to run in wielding an umbrella.
well then.
"We should probably provide him with some cover, I guess." he bellowed loudly, hoping that this time Austin could hear something other than a loud bang. Nudging Cecil in the ribs and taking a stance behind Liam, he fired away.
And Harvard was back to his usual tricks, making Justin rolls his eyes and refrain from chuckling in such a dire situation. "You sure did have a death wish over there Harvard, getting that close."

Somewhat distant from the others, Caroline stared at Austin, eyes narrowed in thought.
After taking some time to recuperate, Rook jumped back into the fray. Apparently something had hatched from the--egg? After all, though to be honest, what he saw and what he expected were two entirely different things.
"I'm not even gonna question these things anymore." He muttered. Too much weird had happened over the month to make much sense anyways.

Harvard's sudden arrival and charge into battle was a startling thing for a few reasons. For one, Liam didn't want to accidentally shoot the man. He'd jerked, the barrel of his gun snapping up towards the ceiling as he watched him stab at the thing with his umbrella before slinking back to bump shoulders with Austin.
Then memory kicked in, and Liam looked quickly away, a bright blush burning across his cheeks.
He shouldered his gun, putting all his attention and focus into that. Which ended up serving him well, because he hit the thing right in the head.
As soon as Liam explained Cecil felt bad. "Oh, I didn't realize. It's just that...his aim isn't so bad I thought he could see." There was a pause. "...wait why does he have a shotgun if he can't see??" Now Cecil was concerned for a whole other reason and the healed bullet wound on his arm was reminder enough why he should be.
The nudge Justin offered at least distracted him enough and he grinned as he saw Rook approach. "It's probably safe not to question, yeah." He agreed. No one would be able to explain anyway.
Cecil couldn't help but catch sight of Liam out of the corner of his eye, suddenly curious of his reaction to Harvard. He didn't ask, it wasn't his place, but he wondered if everything was okay.
