Dune, despite his disappointment at the humans not understanding at all, still found it kind of funny when Christian just waved back to Chickpea. Pfft. He waved his tailtip back and forth in amusement.
But then... then the impossible happened! The spooky new pokemon that Christian caught, she was... were the humans hearing her?! She was talking to them! Dune swiveled his head to look at Chickpea, his mouth dropped open in surprise. If he had normal wings, he might have hovered off the ground in surprise and excitement.

Uh, what the <********>? Jun stood still, watching as Christian set everything on the ground. He waited until Christian was completely done. "Christian," he said, calmly. "Did your totodile just talk to us."
Well then. Jun looked to Ledian, who seemed mollified. And... surprisingly not startled by the talking totodile. She just looked relieved that the humans finally got it. [ "L-ledian! You should help too!" ] Dune called. He had dipped his tail in the icing and was carefully smearing it on. Ledian flitted down, picking up a container of black and orange sprinkles shaped like little pumpkins and bats, and started knocking them on.
Jun was pretty sure Dune hadn't cleaned his tail before he started. Okay, that was something he'd need to teach his pokemon. From what he'd read on taking care of Holly and Peafoul, it sounded like he'd have to talk to them about hygene anyways.

The pokemon seemed to do a good enough job (or maybe the judges just appreciated the effort, or the actual cake tasted great). It turned out that Dune's tail had actually bean cleaned before they started, so it was actually okay to eat. They each got second prize, which for Jun ended up being a nice stack of tickets.
Jun was alright leaving the cake to Christian and the pokemon to eat. He let out his other pokemon to have some, even Peafoul. He tried to keep a close eye on her, hand feeding bits of cake, but it was hard to do because Holly kept trying to braid his hair which was really distracting Holly please.
"Christian, you up for the maze again after this? The prizes for that were pretty good," he said. And it was totally in the spirit of Halloween to want to run around and get free stuff, wasn't it?

'Course ya can! They gots all kinda things!" she boasted back, continuing with the ruse that she now fully believed in, "They prolly got like... weapons! "We'll have ta get back to the end of the maze ta ask what they have," she added, unsure whether that might just send him into another flurry of chopping again.

Chico still looked a bit determined and on edge, but looked earnestly, and sternly, at Teeg. "Are you sure?" It didn't sound like a challenge, so much and insistence to ensure his trainer's safety. Still, things seemed.... better, so he was leaning towards believing her, but he shot a sharp look at the other pokemon at his insult. "Don't insult Julie, you misshapen spud! She's just as strong as your trainer!" he declared boldly. He might not have been her pokemon long, but he could tell Julie was tough. She didn't take things from other people and she was more than willing to fight for herself. And he didn't care if that kid had an axe! On a level playing field, he was sure his trainer could beat this dumb bear's! He narrowed an eye and slithered his veins back out at the insult, but seemed to be holding back from attacking, for now. He wished Julie had a psychic type... he'd really like to battle this jerk.

The last thing Chickpea had expected was for Cress to actually talk to the trainers; he didn't even know there were pokemon capable of that! And, now that he knew, he was even more grateful that he'd turned to the Totodile for help. His shock was quick to fade away, helped along by Christian's permission to start decorating, and with a soft trill he picked up the same weird, flat tool thing his trainer had held and began painting the cake.
"Oooh, I think it's turning out great!" Chickpea gushed, once they were halfway done with icing their dessert, and he was a third of the way finished with decorating himself; it was an accident, but he couldn't say he didn't like having sweets within licking distance. Plus! It gave him a bit of color.

Esben’s eyes went wide as Julie explained the possibilities. "Really?" Weapons? Maybe armor? He could certainly use more, what was a Viking without a healthy arsenal of dangerous and sharp objects on their person? Shoot, he could even help Julie get prepared for the warrior training that she clearly needed!
"Oh? Well then let’s get going! You want to start trainin’ so you can become a real dragon slayer, don’tcha?!" He honestly seemed inspired by this revelation, immediately snatching onto Julie’s hand and beginning to drag her through the corn maze; course not along the path but rather directly through the stalks. "If we just go through the corn we’ll get out faster! And maybe we’ll find the dragon slayer at the weapons! He can tell us what’s a good weapon!" He was much too delighted about this.

Well, now that his hands were free, Christian took the opportunity to cross them behind his head. "Yup?" He glanced over to Jun, then flashed him a grin. "Seems like it!" Ah man, this was so weird, but in a good way! "I thought you said Totodiles couldn't talk," he brought back up, not necessarily accusing Jun but... rather, wanting to get his facts straight.
"They can't!" Cress piped up, her wide grin showing off her pearly whites even more. "Well, most can't. I just happen to be an exception, I'm one in a -- no, two billion!" Was she boasting? It felt as if she was boasting. Still, Christian felt inclined to believe her. Jun had seemed surprised to find that she could talk, and out of the two of them he was the pokemon expert.
Christian wasn't given the chance to dwell on the discovery for too much longer, as all too soon the baking contest came to an end and, after a brief inspection, they came in second. Sure, it was a step up from their last attempt, but it still wasn't first place; that blue ribbon would elude him still. At least he'd have a few tickets to warm his pockets, and he could turn those in for... some kind of prize, whenever they got around to that.

Byr looked confused, and then shocked, and then annoyed at the name calling he received. Did he just get called a potato? He huffed, stepping forward and pointing a paw threatening at the Chikorita. ’What’d you call me?! I’ll make you eat your leaf you dumb bean!’ He hissed back, looking ready to throw down because why not? Teeg sighed and stepped between the two, narrowing a look at both as she attempted to play the ‘adult’ in this situation. Or mediator really. She just didn’t want trouble to be honest.
’Stop it! Both of you! Uhm… please!’ Teeg was trying to be stern but sounded a bit more on the pleading side at this point.

Isi, who had collected himself just enough to turn his attention to searching the area, was uncertain what to do at this point. He didn’t like being in the corn maze anymore. The Cubchoo jumped at all the noise that was going on and noticed Esben dragging Julie off through the corn. Where were they going?!

With their prizes earned, there was nothing left but to reap their rewards, enjoy the fruits of their labor; all that good stuff! Speaking of good, Christian hummed in appreciation as he chowed down onto his cake slice, enjoying the moisture from the bread itself, and its well-paired cream cheese icing. He was still chewing as he distributed slices amongst the pokemon, and made sure that Chickpea and Cress got extra large pieces, or at least larger than his; they'd worked hard.
"Your pokemon really seem to like you," Christian commented, in between bites. Amusement brightened his gaze as he watched Jun's hair-braiding session, though withheld his laughter to keep himself from choking; because that wouldn't be a good look.
Swallowing the last bit of his dessert, and wiping the crumbs away from his mouth, he gave a nod to Jun's question, "Sure! You know me, I'll never turn down free stuff." But honestly, who would? Christian checked to make sure both his pokemon were still with him, Cress especially, then fell in beside Jun as they began their walk back to corn maze. "Maybe this time we'll find more of those doll things."

Julie waited to see if Esben would keep biting the bait she'd innocently placed, and grinned when he enthusiastically leaped into the idea of finishing the maze. "Ye--whoa!" She was a little caught off guard when he grabbed her hand and stumbled after him, but her eyes went wide as he started dragging her through the corn. "Eep! Esben wait! W-we can't go through-- CHICO!" She quickly called back to her pokemon to get his attention, tossing a hand out, before disappearing in after the boy, spitting out some corn husk that had got into her mouth. She threw a hand up to try and block anything else from getting in her mouth, scrunching up her face and trying to yoink Esben back out, into the cut out part. "Wait Esben! I can get us out faster if we stick to the path!" she insisted, whining a bit, once again. But it was a really tight fit in here! How did Torin even get in here to scare her earlier...

Chico was glaring stubbornly black at Byr despite the threat, looking just as ready to fight. This big brainless lug was really asking for it! He barely even registered Teeg's urgent request when his trainer's voice caught his attention, and his focus snapped over to Julie's disappearing form. Immediately, he leaped around the two and darted over to where Mareepa was pittering over to look curiously into the corn, looking at it a moment, before brushing past the sheep to dart down the path and round the corner, hoping to cut off the youngsters. He sharply dodged a bolt of electricity and looked back to the other sheep glaring after him -- how dare he brush off his sister like that, after all -- but quickly ignored him, and ran off to find Julie. The white sheep gave a curious little sound, then looked around, searching for her trainer, before baaing and aimlessly bolting into the corn. Her brother stared after, a bit at a loss, before sighing, and running after her, only to nearly hit her as they exited the maze. She was looking curiously at their surroundings, then waggled her little floof of a tail, before running off to the games with wild abandon. Oh boy....

Esben was too caught up in the excitement of the ‘prizes’ and adding weapons to his arsenal to really take in Julie’s pleading whines that they should take one of the prepared paths and not just rush through the corn. He paused only a step when Julie’s yanking managed to stop him, narrowing a confused look her way in the process. "What? You can?" His expression turned dubious, "but the paths are all curvy and wonky! Why not just go straight through? It’s easier! Look I bet we’re almost out already!" Esben insisted, stomping a foot impatiently, his stubbornness at its peak. There was just so much he needed to get done and not enough time to be wandering in this corn maze to do it! What if the dragon slayer had already made his purchases?! They’d never get advice then!

’Hey! Come back here!’ Byr shouted after Chico as the Chikorita went after their now fleeing trainers. The Teddiursa puffed and thrusted his chest out in defiance before giving the loudest, squeakiest of a roar that a young bear could have and chasing the other pokemon down. Teeg, confused by this continued descent into bickering, looked concerned and immediately gave chase as well.
Which left poor Isi behind in the corn maze alone, just has he been locating another Cacturne doll. The Cubchoo turned around to try and proudly display his find, only tio find the place well… abandoned. Oh dear.
