There was a pause while Austin fumbled with his weapon and then, with a huff, he realized what he'd done wrong. This time he pointedly pumped the shotgun, loading it up properly, before he turned it on the monster and fired. And he hit, though not well, with his ears ringing and a low grumble under his breath.
The sound of fighting, it brought a spark of relief, that there were other's here, but it also sent the young man running. Folks were coming back, but something was wrong, something had invaded their home. They were in danger. He had to help.
Liam dropped his bag as he reached the hall the other's were fighting in, and there was a pause, eyes widening as they took in the thing they were attacking. "What is that?" A second of fear. A second to be overwhelmed and freeze up, then he remembered the gun. Swinging it up, he aimed at the thing, pulled the trigger, and damn near fell with the recoil.

He was starting to get the hang of this -- and he was certainly also starting to like it. Austin drew in a slow breath as he took aim, this time, carefully lined up his shot, and breathed out as he fired. He'd seen enough movies to know that was how you were supposed to do it. Or, rather, to think that was how you were supposed to do it.
More blasts around him. Liam flinched, turning just enough to catch sight of Austin with a shotgun of his own. "What is it?" As if the older boy would know. A rhetorical question born of fear. One he didn't expect an answer for, or at least not one that had any significance. Whatever it was, they needed kill it, or drive it away. They had to get it out of the dorms, off campus. Gone.
Cocking the gun, he brought it up to his shoulder again. Squeezing off a round that glanced the thing at best. Too hasty, he had to focus, or try to.
This time he took a breath, counted in his head as he lined up the sight on the bulk of the thing. Not an easy task as it moved, but when he fired it hit more centered. Better. Not great, but better!
Cecil wasn't sure if he trusted himself with the shotgun that had been left in his hands. Bad experiences told him this wasn't a great idea but at least he wasn't in a dark room where things only seemed to go wrong. This time he could actually see and once he rounded the corner in the university he was glad he had it.
The how or why to the creature's appearance didn't matter, all Cecil knew was that he needed to help get rid of it. Carefully cocking the rifle he settled the butt of the gun against his shoulder, aimed, and fired. He landed a pretty decent hit but the thing was still there.
"Is there anyone that's hurt?" He turned to Liam who was close by to see how he was fairing and if he knew everyone's condition.

Since the first hit only did so much Cecil focused in his shot and fired off another round. His aim was fairly accurate but he wasn't sure if it was doing any good.

Upon so much damage, the seed cracks, splits and spreads out, taking a larger form. It is not dangerous yet, but just nearing it makes you feel nauseous.

Cecil had loaded his shotgun and prepared for another shot but just as he got ready to fire the creature began to change. It was startling enough that he didn't make a direct hit and instead stood there with wide eyes trying to process what he was seeing. What was that thing?

"Um," Liam shot Cecil al ook as the larger man joined the fight. "I'm not really sure. I mean I just got here." He didn't see anyone that looked injured, but then he hand't really been looking.
"Are you alright?" At this point they were all looking a little bit worst for wear. Cecil looked look he'd taken a bit of a beating, and Liam knew he wasn't much better off with his back full of bandages. At this point though, upright and mobile was the new alright.
The seed split, and something else emerged from it, something that made Liam's stomach churn just looking at it. "What is it?" Did it mater? No, not really. It was still a threat.
Shouldering his shotgun, Liam took aim, braced, and fired.

Austin just gave Liam a look, torn between annoyed and confused, that conveyed what are you asking me? and why are you asking me? at the same time. Then he leveled his shotgun to fire again.
The blast rang out, and the shot tore through the freshly sprouted monster, taking a healthy chunk out of the beast.
"Oh, well...then are you alright?" As far as he was concerned Cecil knew he would live. He was sore, a bit bruised and a little beaten up but he could still move. "I'm fine." There was a small hint of a smile sent Liam's way so that hopefully he knew he meant it. Cecil might have looked to be in rough shape but he would pull through.
"What about you, Austin?" He glanced Austin's way with a concerned look before shouldering his shotgun and firing.
As far as what they were facing was concerned, Cecil didn't know. He shook his head at Liam unable to make sense of it himself. So far they hadn't come across anything similar.

Justin was over on the side when the shotgun squad was forming up. "Hows that gun working out for you Cec?" He queried, making his way over to the group, safety in numbers. or maybe hoping that their spray of concentrated bullets would be even better. "Anyone know how it even got in our base?" he had to wonder how it happened, there was a lot of time unaccounted for. The buckshot was reloaded and sights aligned when he pulled the trigger.

Austin thought maybe he'd heard his name -- blinked at Cecil in confusion -- but among all the shots being fired, his ears were ringing too much to make out the details. He fired again.
"Ah, you know..." His shoulders rose in a small shrug. Small, because anything more than that was painful. At least the bites were mostly closed up. So aside from the slash across his shoulder blades he was more or less just bruised all over. "Could be worst."
He shot a hapless sort of look at Austin, gaze lingering a second or two as Cecil directed a question the blonde's way.
Gun on his shoulder, he fired again, but it only clicked. He needed to reload. "Crap..." Good thing he'd filled his pockets with shells.
