tabFlung through through time and space, the muscisian had no way of knowing where she would end up after stepping through the portal. The distortion world was a strange place with strange rules, altering everything within as a twisted reflection of the world beyond. Kraven could only hope that she would end up at least near where she'd entered, or at least arrive back anywhere in Unova. If she landed in another region, she might've been able to hoof it towards the trains and catch a ride back, but if she somehow ended up in the ocean...
Her fears were unfounded. Eyes shut tight snapped open when light returned to Kraven, along with blessedly normal gravity to boot. She might not've felt the ground beneath her feet, but leaping through the void she almost came to expect that. She came out close to the ground anyway, so she could survive a small landing no problem. But coming down wasn't the problem.
It was Phoenix.
Directly beneath her as she reentered the real world Kraven found her initial traveling companion, staring down at her wrist and typing oblivious to the flying musician dropping from the sky. Without any time to think or articulate words the raven-haired girl simply let out a loud cry, hoping to alert her companion before she landed head-first into her... Or, at the very least, give her a chance to brace herself if there was simply no time to react.

☆ ☆【Phoenix bit her lip as she typed out the text message to Kraven on her Xtransceiver, wondering where her friend had gotten off to. Assuming she had already gotten the badge in Nacrene… she was either still in the city or somewhere here in Pinwheel Forest. At this point, the best case scenario was probably that she was still in Nacrene, Phoenix knew the area fairly well and it certainly would take a lot less time than trying to search the entirety of Pinwheel Forest for her ebon-haired companion. She hoped Kraven wasn’t at least too far away if she was heading in that general direction… With a nod of affirmation, she sent the message, nervously waiting for a response from her friend that would guide her in the right direction. However, not even seconds after she had sent the text, both Phoenix and Klaus froze stiff at the sudden sound of a loud shout coming from… above them?
Jerking her head up at the noise, Phoenix’s eyes blew wide as she saw… Kraven?! Somehow her raven-haired friend had ended up above them in midair and was now rapidly falling down to Earth, with the redhead standing right on the bullseye of the impact zone. With absolutely no time to otherwise react and step out of the way, the redhead immediately brought her arms up to at least protect her face and chest and braced herself just as the other girl’s body collided with her. In an instant, Phoenix felt herself being knocked down to the ground on her back, the impact winding her and leaving a throbbing pain in the back of her head as her vision blacked out for a good few seconds or so. All things considered, it was probably for the best that Klaus had taken her guitar case off of her when he had, Arceus knows how much more painful it might have been if she had landed right on top of it. Meanwhile, Klaus could only watch in a mix of shock and confusion as Kraven landed on top of Phoenix, the two girls crumpling in a tangle of limbs onto the ground below. Goodness, it certainly wasn’t every day something like this happened… thankfully it didn’t seem like either of them were severely injured. Where had Kraven even come from if she had ended up right overhead? Phoenix gasped as she came out of her momentary blackout, trying to catch her breath after having it literally knocked out of her by the impact.
”Well then, that’s certainly taking the whole ‘falling for you’ thing to a new level~”the Zoroark finally said with a small smirk, unable to help but chuckle a little at the absurdity of what had happened in the span of the past ten seconds,”I guess this technically makes you an angel now, huh?”If Phoenix wasn’t busy trying to catch her breath, she would’ve likely groaned and rolled her eyes at the remark, and blushed in embarrassment at the whole situation in general. Of course Klaus would jump on the opportunity to joke about it, if anything at least it hadn’t killed them, though she was still feeling that nagging pain from where the back of her head had had a nice, 'friendly' meeting with the ground. ”In all seriousness, however, are you two alright? Phee? Kraven?”Klaus then quickly asked, the mischievous smirk on his face melting into a concerned look as he approached them, giving them a quick once over to check for any serious injuries. If anything, they probably might’ve gotten mild concussions, and possibly a few cuts, scrapes, and bruises here and there, which were a bit concerning but not anything too worrisome… He didn’t see any visibly broken limbs thus far, which was definitely a relief. He slowly bent down, offering a hand to help Kraven up first, only sensible to do so since she was more or less on top of Phoenix at the moment.】☆ ☆

JR couldn't tell if it was suspicion, or to keep anyone from hearing him talk, but he actually hoped to Arceus it was the first-- if the kid was getting that paranoid, in a random freaking forest, in a region with no contests, he was going to have to hands down, backhand him. "I did, but I was pretty patient back there. I think I've earned a little leeway to have some fun, too," he replied back, narrowing his eyes just enough to suggest this was less than a request, "And it's been a while since I actually got to do a proper pokemon battle."

Trey's brow furrowed and his gaze hardened some as he stared down, past Cherish, but he didn't comment, and he didn't look at the man. Honestly, he couldn't quite tell if that was a threat or not, but it unnerved him to think about. Whatever... JR was honestly probably right. The pokemon likely would listen to him, at least his would. They were familiar enough with him, after all, though he wasn't sure he was keen on letting Volcarona battle, given he still needed to practice with him, and he didn't exactly need the boost to evolve or anything.

Kraven thought she'd see white when she finally made contact, but instead it just left everything blurry and tilted until she recovered from the vertigo. Dropping in and practically tackling her friend to the ground certainly wasn't how she envisioned their rendezvous, but she was at least thankful to find gravity worked right. As the throbbing in her head and the pain in the rest of her abated she had enough sense to catch Klaus' remarks, groaning for both trainers as she tried to get back to her feet.
"I think that joke might've hurt more than the fall," she answered, chuckling until her foot slipped back out. After a few failed attempts that just dropped her back onto Phoenix, the fighter simply decided to roll off the girl, freeing them both by the time her Zoroark offered to actually help. Kraven took it with little hesitation, though stopped part of the way when she found her hand caught on the redhead's jacket. Once she was completely free Kraven finally stood up again, needing a moment to regain her balance as the last bit of dizzyness began to fade.
When she was sure she wouldn't just drop right back to the ground, she moved to face Phoenix, and help her up as well if her vulpine companion hadn't done so already. "You alright, Phoenix? Sorry, the last thing I expected was getting thrown out in the middle of the air, let alone right on top of you."

☆ ☆【Phoenix’s head was still reeling from the absolute fiasco that had happened, not to mention she had hit it a bit harder than expected when she had been knocked back from practically cushioning Kraven’s fall. Arceus… she hoped she didn’t get a serious concussion from that… Her senses returned to her not too long afterwards, thankfully, just in time to catch Klaus’s joking remarks, much to her dismay. ”Goddammit, Klaus…” she thought grimly to herself, of course he would be taking the time to joke around about this. She would’ve groaned otherwise if she wasn’t still trying to catch her breath after having it essentially knocked out of her, though thankfully Kraven was able to cover that base for both of them as she managed to recover and was now trying to get back up. A wry smile crossed the redhead’s face at Kraven’s remark of how Klaus’s joke probably hurt more than the fall had. ”Agreed,” Phoenix thought to herself, she would've rolled her eyes at the Zoroark if she wasn't focused on getting herself back together.”Well, glad to see that you still have your funny bone intact~”Klaus chipped in with a light chuckle and a grin, rather glad that at least Kraven had taken the joke in relatively good humor. However, the raven-haired girl's first attempt to get up ended with her slipping and falling back on top of the redhead.
This process repeated itself at least two or three more times before Kraven gave up on that route, instead deciding to simply roll off of her and freeing the both of them. By this time, Klaus actually stepped forward to help them up, moving to get Kraven first while Phoenix took the opportunity to bring herself to sit up. A brief sharp stinging pain lanced through her head at the sudden movement, but lasted for all of about a few seconds before finally fading into a slight, dull ache. The Zoroark nodded and smiled as he took hold of their ebon-haired friend’s hand, carefully hoisting her to her feet, though their combined efforts were halted partway there because Kraven’s hand was still caught on Phoenix’s jacket. The redhead bit her lip, turning her gaze down towards the grass to try and hide her embarrassment at this whole situation. At least no one else besides the three of them was around to see this, thank Arceus… It didn’t take long for Kraven to get herself untangled and fully back on her feet with Klaus’s help. With her now taken care of, the Zoroark moved to help his trainer up now. Phoenix didn’t hesitate for a moment as she accepted Klaus’s hand, legs shaking like a newborn Miltank calf trying to stand for the first time. ”You know, I would hope that you wouldn’t fool around like that if we had been very seriously hurt,” she grumbled under her breath, fixing Klaus with a glare as she held firmly onto him to steady herself.”Of course not~ But you weren’t, and the opportunity was ripe for the taking,”he responded with a grin, shrugging his shoulders in a way that seemed to say ‘it’s just what I do’. Arceus… he was lucky that they were good friends.
Once she managed to regain enough balance that she wouldn’t immediately topple over just from standing by herself, Phoenix turned to face Kraven as her friend asked if she was alright. ”Yeah, at least I think so,” she said, making a noise that sounded like something between a laugh and a cough, ”Feels like I’ve been run over by a herd of Bouffalant… but otherwise I’m just peachy.” A wry smile crossed her lips as Kraven apologized, saying that she hadn’t expected was getting thrown out in midair, much less right on top of her. ”Yeah, no kidding…” Phoenix agreed with a nod, that certainly wasn’t something that happened every day.”The timing couldn’t have been more perfect either, we had just been wondering where you’d gotten off to. And then poof! Here you are,”Klaus chipped in, moving his hands in an animated example as he mimicked the motion of a small explosion,”Odd circumstances aside, it’s lovely to see you again, Kraven~”
Phoenix gave a small smile, nodding in agreement with the Zoroark’s sentiment. However, her eyes narrowed somewhat in curiosity as she chanced a glance upwards momentarily before looking back towards her raven-haired friend. ”Where did you even come from anyways…?” she inquired, wondering how in the world Kraven had ended up right above them of all places. She had mentioned being ‘thrown out’ in midair, but out from where? It didn’t look like she had fallen off of a flying Pokemon or from a tree… maybe from a portal or something like that? It seemed somewhat implausible, she had heard tales about certain Pokemon that could travel by ripping open portals to travel through space, or even ones that lead into a whole different world. But as far as she knew, there weren’t any Pokemon like that who lived in this particular area… at least, not that she was aware of.】☆ ☆

The boxer rubbed her neck sheeplessly when they were all up and about again, relieved at least that she hadn't broken anything for her companion. "Well, as long as you come out the other end we can always get patched up. Glad you're fine, though." She couldn't help but let out a breath of relief after the redhead's report. Her feet absently rubbed against the dirt beneath her, as if to make sure she wasn't still at risk of falling upwards from shifting gravity. When Klaus piped up again to truly exposit her timing, her worry started to ease up. "Oh wow, seriously? I didn't even notice the Transceiver go off on my way down. I guess when fate wants you to come together she'll bring out some comedic timing."
Kraven began to laugh again, but quickly drew a sharp breath when it quite literally hurt her sides, an arm rushing to clutch the sore flesh. Okay, maybe I'm not that unharmed, she thought, taking a moment to clear her head before Phoenix finally asked the obvious question. "That's... Ugh, it's a long story. Mind if I give you the short version while we walk?" She looked at her friend with a somewhat tired smile, gesturing in the... vague direction of civilization. "I dunno how long it's been, but it feels like I was out for years or something. Might need to find a place to eat while we're at it."

☆ ☆【Odd circumstances and bad jokes aside, it took every ounce of restraint for Phoenix to not roll her eyes at Klaus’s ‘funny bone’ quip, the two girls seemed to have come out of that whole fiasco relatively unscathed. Well, for the most part at least, Phoenix was still feeling that ache in her head from where it had collided with the ground, but hopefully her ebon-haired friend was faring at least a bit better than her. A small smile crossed her lips as Kraven sheepishly rubbed the back of her neck, saying that as long as she came out the other end fairly intact then they could always get patched up if need be and that she was glad the redhead was fine. ”True enough there, though if we had broken something then we would’ve really been in trouble. And that’s not even counting having to have Klaus drag us back to town and to a hospital while subjecting us to more of his terrible jokes the whole way,” she said with a soft laugh, unable to help but slip in that last part as she gave a sidelong glance towards aforementioned Zoroark. Klaus simply shrugged with a toothy grin that seemed to say ‘Well, what else would you expect’.”Say what you want about my sense of humor, but they do say laughter is the best medicine~ That’s a proven fact, for sure,”he reciprocated back lightheartedly with a soft chuckle. Phoenix huffed in response, holding off on shooting back a retort at Klaus for now as she focused her attention primarily on Kraven. ”All that aside, I hope you’re alright too,” she said as she gave her companion a quick once over glance, a bit of worry seeping into her tone. It didn’t look like Kraven had any visible major injuries, though it was hard to really tell if she had any more internal ones like maybe a concussion or a bruised rib.
For now, though, the conversation shifted as Klaus chipped in a pretty interesting tidbit. How oddly coincidental that just as Phoenix had sent that message to Kraven asking where she was, their dark-haired companion also happened to reappear out of thin air right above them around roughly the same time. It seemed rather convenient, all things considered, maybe a little too convenient at that… Even Kraven seemed rather surprised at the strangely perfect timing of it all, mentioning that she hadn’t noticed her Xtransceiver go off in the midst of the chaos of suddenly being tossed out of wherever in midair and falling right on top of her redheaded companion. Phoenix couldn’t help but laugh aloud despite herself at Kraven’s comment about fate bringing them together if she deemed it so, comedic timing included. ”Fate sure seems to have a weird sense of humor, given her track record so far. Or maybe that's just with us in particular,” she chipped in amusedly, cupping a hand over her mouth in a rather poor attempt to stifle her giggles, ”I think the two of you would get along great together, Klaus.” The Zoroark chuckled at that, still sporting that wide, dopey grin on his face.”Sounds like my kind of lady~ I don’t suppose you know where I can get ahold of her number, or if she has a dating profile on eHappiny?”he chimed in, quick as ever to reciprocate the joke.
However, the humor didn’t last for long as Phoenix noticed Kraven’s laughter was quickly cut off by a sharp intake of breath as her arm grasped at her side, the smile fleeing from her face and replaced with a very concerned expression. Klaus had picked up on it as well as he adopted a more serious look, even if she still looked relatively unharmed on the outside, it was still possible that she could have sustained more internal damage that wasn’t as obvious to spot. He certainly hoped it wasn’t something too serious, at least, if anything Kraven would probably feel more than fine after she’d gotten a good bit of rest. Phoenix gave her dark-haired friend time to recover before moving on to address the Donphan in the room, still a bit baffled as to how Kraven had ended up right overhead even though it didn’t seem like she had fallen off a Pokemon or from a tree. Her brow furrowed in curiosity and concern as Kraven said that it was a bit of a long story, but offered to give them a summary of what had happened to her while they walked while she vaguely gestured in the direction of town. ”Sure, Nacrene isn’t that far away from where we are now if you don’t mind. I, uh… kinda have to head in that general direction anyways, so might as well, yes?” she suggested, hoping that Kraven wouldn’t mind backtracking a bit. Phoenix still had to catch up with her badges, and it made sense to go to Nacrene since it was much closer to their current location than Castelia and she had to go through there anyways to get to Striation. The redhead quirked a brow as Kraven went on to mention that it felt like she had been out for years, wondering what she meant by that since as far as Phoenix was concerned, her ebon-haired friend had only been gone for… maybe at least a half-hour to an hour at most. She figured Kraven would elaborate a bit more on that in her short story summation of her misadventures, and gave a soft chuckle at her friend’s mention of possibly finding a place to eat as well in the meantime. ”Of course, I can definitely find us a good diner or two to grab lunch at,” she agreed with small smile and a nod, ”Pretty sure I could use a bite myself, now that you mention it...” She hadn’t really had anything to eat pretty much at all so far, thinking about it now, and running all the way across the Skyarrow Bridge to try to find her friend hadn’t done her stomach any favors either.”In that case, let’s get going then, shall we?”Klaus suggested as he gestured in the direction of town, ready to start moving along with them to wherever they were heading.】☆ ☆

Escaping the hustle of the city for the forest outskirts that would bring them one step closer to the next gym, the group walked in eerie silence. Reese hadn’t spoken a word since the group had left the pokemon center and Quixote was all but asleep in his arms. Which left only Jaxston to really take in the sights around them. It was so odd walking without any talking or harassment; Reese hadn’t released Ginger back out after the battle for whatever reason and so there was peace.
It was odd. Strange. Uncomfortable even.
The Servine had grown used to the mocking and teasing of the Gengar and the abrupt attitude of his trainer that the lack of interaction made the little imaginary hairs on the back of his neck crawl.
Or maybe that was caused by the out of place rustling of the nearby bushes. He snapped his attention about as an odd looking pokemon caring a … what, red log over its shoulder, shuffled out from the grass. It stopped, staring at the opposing pokemon briefly before it fell into a fighting stance much to the Servine’s surprise.

Reese nearly stumbled over his feet at the fierce gust of wind that slammed against his back. His grip tightened to prevent Quixote from being dropped and he managed to catch himself, whipping about on his heels to look back at the commotion.
"The hell?!" He hissed, narrowing his gaze on Jaxston as the pokemon landed from the sky after finishing a rather unconventional flying move. The Servine picked himself up, startled by the hiss as he snapped his attention to his trainer. Reese was already staring the pokemon down with a suspicious look. Soon he was stalking his way over to Jaxston to loom over the pokemon, still staring him down.
"... when the hell did you learn a flying move?" The starter blinked. Uhm. Was he not supposed to know that kind of thing? He’d recalled gaining the knowledge when he ate that mushroom from before but well… was that not normal? The Servine glanced up again; Reese had maneuvered to cradle Quixote in one arm and already whipped out his pokedex to check his pokemon’s move set.

To say Reese was confused was an understatement. Jaxston grew nervous as the boy’s face contorted first in confusion, then uncertainty and then suspicion, ice blue gaze swapping between the pokemon and the pokedex. Had he done something wrong? Maybe he shouldn’t have used that move?
The lack of answers could lead a poor soul to sweat bullets and the Servine was about explode from the anxiety of it all. Reese finally broke the silence with a scoff and a roll of his eyes, snapping the pokedex closed and returning it to his back pocket. "… Weird. Whatever, I guess that’s pretty useful." Letting out a breath he hadn’t known he’d been holding, Jaxston swiped his forehead and gave his trainer a bit of a look. Apparently, it wasn’t as big a deal as he thought?

Reese was hard to read. Really, Jaxston could’ve signed his death warrant and he wouldn’t be able to find a clue to the fact from the lad’s face. A little squeak of a yawn caught their attention though and Quixote gave a little stretch before rubbing at his eyes. Reese shifted his focus, adjusting the pokemon to hold in his arms as he eyed him curiously. "Finally awake Q?" The Axew gave another yawn and a stretch, throwing his hands in the air as he let lose an excited cheer. The slightest hint of a smile (though it probably would’ve been construed as a smirk) crossed his face at the rejuvenated status of his dinosaur pokemon.
Another wiggle confirmed that Quixote was back to health and so Reese set him down to bound over to Jaxston, nearly tackling the other in childish delight. The Servine jumped a bit, eyeing the other curiously before looking to Reese for some sort of confirmation that this interaction was okay. Reese just watched the two, same deadpan judging expression returned to his face.

Trey was surprised that JR not only stayed in for the night after returning from his gym battle, but that he also left him alone, and seemed to fall asleep fairly fast. Not that he entirely trusted that he had truly fallen asleep, but at the very least, he went through the trouble of pretending to. As a result, Trevor was able to finish reading, take a shower, and turn off the lights, all without any interruptions, and soon fell asleep himself. The two woke up early (JR was already awake, it seemed, when Trey woke, but they didn't speak to each other) and went to get food. There was a brief run down to confirm the plan, then... they headed out. Honestly, Trey just wanted to get back to the city, so they could hurry up with this battle, and heh could get his pokemon back, hopefully for good.
