It hadn't been long before they were interrupted, a bit of Matt's history and whatnot had been shared and then they'd heard a rustling; something that they'd already come to associate with wild Pokémon. Hayes stood up a bit after Teddy had already gone off to investigate and made his way over to the tree he'd picked out as Matt did the same. A hand on Bulbasaur's Pokeball, Hayes lifted the branch from another tree out of the way and spotted a Wurmple on the side of the tree, licking up the honey he'd spread across its bark. "Alright, Bulbasaur... you're up." Hayes whispered after he'd taken the Pokeball off his belt, giving it a gentle toss into the open space between the tree and himself; the light from Bulbasaur materializing caught the Wurmple's attention, although it didn't seem all that interested.
"Bulbasaaauur...?"Bulbasaur seemed to ask, looking at the honey and the Pokémon near it. It looked back at Hayes as if it didn't know if it was supposed to go near the honey or Wurmple, but it didn't take long before it was given a clue as Wurmple propelled itself off the tree, an impressive feat for it, and rammed into Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur rolled a few times before coming to a stop, and Hayes knew it was the hardest he'd seen it be hit since he'd had it. "Bulbasaur!" He shouted, alarmed after the tackle, but as Bulbasaur struggled to get back up it shook its head; and the Wurmple was squirming a moment later as it appeared to be bothered by something on its back... a seed, by the look of it. And while it was squirming, Bulbasaur seemed to be improving, almost as if it was leeching energy from it; and that's when he realized. "I didn't know you could do that!" He said to Bulbasaur, who only nodded as it tried to steady itself. It didn't look like it had restored itself all the way, but it had done enough as Wurmple was panicking, frantically attempting to reach the seed by craning its head around or using its tail in an effort to knock it off. "Use Tackle, while it's still distracted!" Hayes instructed, and Bulbasaur took off at a speed a bit slower than he'd gotten accustomed to seeing. It's still pretty far off from a hundred percent... He thought, and Wurmple took the ample time it had to let loose as much string as it could at Bulbasaur, slowing it even more; but it hadn't been enough, and Bulbasaur returned the earlier attack with a Tackle of its own.
Wurmple reeled as it was struck, and began squirming again a moment later as it appeared to be losing even more energy, while Bulbasaur was looking better and better. In a vain attempt at preservation, it let loose another barrage of string at Bulbasaur as it tried to back away, but it wasn't enough to hold Bulbasaur in place and it soon landed another charge, staggering the Wurmple again. Hayes was impressed... he'd gotten used to seeing Bulbasaur winning decisively, so it'd been alarming when it hadn't gotten off to as stellar of a start as it had before. It was reassuring to know it wouldn't be the end of it if it didn't always start strong, as it still looked as determined as ever.
"Wurmm~ple!"Hayes' thoughts were interrupted as Wurmple cried out, the seed on it beginning to take effect, but that didn't seem to be the reason for it. "'saaaaur!"Bulbasaur roared in return as it stared at the Pokémon standing in front of it, it was almost as if it'd challenged Bulbasaur... and it was responding.
Hayes had a feeling that they wanted to decide the battle on their own, and he held his tongue; Bulbasaur started to run, and Wurmple slowly wobbled to meet it. As wobbly as it looked, Hayes could see that it was attempting to line up the spike on its head with Bulbasaur as it approached, deciding to try a different move now that it'd come to this... an admirable choice, Hayes thought, as he watched them collide. Wurmple's attack did connect, but it hadn't been enough as Bulbasaur barreled over it, knocking it out. At that moment, Teddy called out that his Caterpie had evolved and he couldn't help but think that despite this battle's end, Bug-types had had a good showing as far as today was concerned. "Oh hey, congratulations!" Hayes shouted back at Teddy, who he could tell was ecstatic about what had happened. He'd return to where they'd all been in a minute so he could actually see Teddy, but Hayes crouched down before he made any move to return and put a hand on Bulbasaur's bulb. "And you! I'm impressed, I gotta say." He said, smiling as Bulbasaur nuzzled against his forearm. Hayes was in the middle of taking out a potion for Bulbasaur when he spotted the Wurmple was awake and crawling away, albeit at a slower pace than when it'd been in battle. After a moment of watching it make it's toward the grass, Hayes stood up and walked over to the tree he'd found it on; Bulbasaur stayed where it was, but had turned to see what he was doing. Wurmple had paused as well after it'd heard the footsteps, and turned around to see Hayes scraping what was left of the honey off the tree and into his hand before walking over to it.
"It's okay, don't worry." Hayes said as reassuringly as he could, once he saw the Pokémon was wary of him... and understandably so, really. "I couldn't let you go after all that, not without doing... something?" He tried to explain, but figured it'd make more sense if he simply did it; and it was putting the honey he'd gotten from the tree on the ground in front of Wurmple. "Something being honey, I guess." Hayes said, smiling as he took a few steps back. "I hope you like it, and I won't come and battle you again if you start eating it." He reassured it, nodding as it started to eat the honey after he made his way back over to Bulbasaur, who was now looking at him a bit oddly. He gave it another pat, and then had Bulbasaur tag along outside of its Pokéball back to where they'd all been sitting before they'd checked on the honey, letting the Wurmple eat in peace as he used a potion on Bulbasaur as they walked back.

Matt smiled and rubbed the back of his head when Teddy commented on his childhood, a bit embarrassed. "Yeah, it was pretty great. I loved helping out and being around all the Pokemon, but it got boring." Matt explained. He did have some great memories of working at the daycare, especially the day he met Mudkip, which happened to be what Teddy brought up yet. "I actually hatched Mudkip a few months ago, and we've been together ever since. I kinda spoiled him with Pokeblocks at first, which is why he gets like... that whenever he's around food, haha." Matt said, his hand resting on Mudkip's Pokeball. Matt and Teddy's conversation was cut short when they heard rustling in the bushes behind them. Teddy instantly went to investigate the honey and was soon battling a Beautifly. Matt got up too, excited and hoping he had attracted a Heracross. When he got close he saw two large colorful wings flapping as another Beautifly was perched on the tree and feeding on the honey. He sighed, disappointing that it wasn't a Heracross. But still, it gave him a chance for more battle experience. "Alright, let's do this, Bu-" Matt began to say, but before he could grab Bulbasaur's Pokeball Mudkip suddenly materialized in front of him. Mudkip came out growling and trying to be intimidating, or as intimidating as a foot tall bright blue Pokemon could be. Matt was surprised, he had never seen Mudkip take the initiative before. His surprised expression quickly changed to a smirk. "Okay Mudkip, let's show this Beautifly what we've got!" He called out. At this point the Beautifly attention had been drawn from the honey and towards the pair, where it stood defensively in front of the honey-coated tree. "Mudkip, use Tackle!" Matt commanded, and Mudkip fiercely began charging at the Beautifly. There was several feet of distance between the two Pokemon, and the Beautifly used this time to use String Shot to coat the area is thick strings that slowed down Mudkip's charge. The strings didn't deter Mudkip however, and it launched into the air and tackled into the Beautifly, knocking it off the tree and into the air. Mudkip made sure to get between the tree and Beautifly, and that was when Matt realized what was going on. "Are you serious...?" He rhetorically asked through a sigh, figuring out that Mudkip was fighting the Beautifly for the honey. At this point he knew Mudkip wasn't even paying attention to his commands and simply stood back to support Mudkip if it needed it. Beautifly went on the offensive, and hit Mudkip with a Poison Sting. Luckily it didn't poison Mudkip, and it was able to counter with another Tackle. Both Pokemon had taken some damage, and Matt knew Mudkip could finish the battle with another tackle. Before he could call the command the Beautifly violently flapped its wings and hit Mudkip with a Gust attack. Mudkip got knocked back, rolling a few feet before catching itself. "One more Tackle, Mudkip!" Mudkip nodded and started running at Beautifly. Leaping into the air, its attack connected with Beautifly and sent it falling to the ground, fainted. Mudkip stumbled when it landed, having taken some serious damage, but was obviously proud of its victory. Matt was too, but he was also at a loss of words for Mudkip's reason for fighting. "Good fight buddy. Now come over here so I can heal you." He said, waving over Mudkip with a Potion in his hand. As soon as Mudkip was healed it waddled over to the tree and began licking up some of the honey that had dripped to the bottom. Matt heard Teddy call out when he completed his battle, saying that his Caterpie had evolved. Matt's eyes lit up with excitement and he called back to Teddy. "Seriously?! Awesome!"

Matt was busy trying to pull Mudkip off the tree so they could get back to the others when a wild Pidgey hopped out of the bushes, obviously attracted by the smell of the honey. Instantly Mudkip hopped between the tree and the Pidgey, defending its prize. "Mud kip kip kip!" It growled, causing the Pidgey to get aggressive. "C'mon, Mudkip. You could share the honey..." Matt sighed, knowing there was no chance of that happening. The Pidgey took to the air for a second, only to fly forward and crash into Mudkip with a Tackle. Mudkip took the attack, rolled to its feet, and Tackled the Pidgey right back. The Pidgey, knocked back, began flapping its wings and attacked Mudkip with a Sand Attack. However, being a Ground-type, the attack had little effect on Mudkip, which Tackled the Pidgey again. The Pidgey fainted as it fell back into the bushes it came from. Mudkip then immediately went back to the honey. "I swear... The only time you ever put in effort is when food is involved. Now come on buddy, let's get back to the others." Matt pleaded.

Mudkip was going to town on its honey tree when another wild Pokemon emerged from the bushes, summoned by the sweet aroma of the honey. This time it was a Pikachu. Matt saw it before Mudkip did, and his heart sank, knowing what was about to happen. No... Run away while you still can... He thought as the Pikachu got closer to Mudkip, its eyes full of hope. Mudkip finally noticed the Pikachu and hopped off the tree to defend its honey horde. Before the Pikachu even got a chance to react, Mudkip charged at the Pikachu and Tackled it back into the bushes it came from. Matt was torn because he felt really bad for how Mudkip was acting, but Mudkip was also getting great experience.

Before Mudkip could return to its tree the Pikachu emerged from the bushes again, beaten and bruised but with a new sense of determination and bravery that radiated from it. Matt had never seen a Pokemon so strong willed and brave in all his years of Pokemon care. It was apparent that this Pikachu had its pride and refused to go down so easily. Matt felt a deep respect for the small electric mouse-Pokemon, and also deep regret as not even a second later Mudkip Tackled it again and knocked it out. Matt sighed and shook his head, Mudkip was going to need some serious training after this, because this sort of behavior was not okay. While he was contemplating on how to best discipline Mudkip, he noticed another full jar of honey sitting at his feet and instantly felt sweat begin to form on his forehead. He looked up, and caught Mudkip's honey-crazed glare as it charged at the honey with fervid honey-lust. "Mudkip no! Stop!" Matt yelled, picking up the honey and quickly stuffing it into his bag. But it was too late. Mudkip had already lept into the air by the time he had snatched the honey. His Mudkip crashed into his bag, sending items flying everywhere and Matt falling backwards. Matt rolled a few times and quickly got up, watching Mudkip trying to get open the new jar of Honey. "Mudkip, return!" He yelled sternfully, returning Mudkip to its Pokeball before it could get its next fix. A second after returning Mudkip Matt heard another ding, and looked to his right as one of his empty Pokeballs had apparently rolled over to the fainted Pikachu and caught it. He quickly stuffed his supplies back into the bag and picked up the Pokeball containing Pikachu. "Whoops..." He said, having no intention of catching the Pikachu. "We might as well take you to the Pokemon Center for healing. You earned it, little guy." Matt clipped Pikachu's Pokeball to his belt and made his way back to where the others were. However, when he got there the others were apparently still battling wild Pokemon. Matt decided just to sit down and wait for them.

Teddy was ecstatic over the evolution of Caterpie. "You should have seen it guys. She fought with all her heart against a Beautifly! It kept absorbing all her health, but she didn't stop." He threw up his new Metapod into the air, catching it several times. "You did so well Cater-I mean Metapod!" Teddy said with a laugh. Carrying it in one arm, he pulled out a couple of potions and applied it to the battle scarred parts of his new Pokemon. "That should do the trick for awhile." Teddy said, before returning Metapod to it's Pokeball. He went to go inquire more about his companions, when he realised they had all run off. He expected that their honey traps had also been sprung. That was when he heard the bushes rustle behind him again.

From the bushes behind Teddy sprung out a Beedrill, shocking him. He seemed to be attracting all the big hitters on this trip. First the Beautifly that caused Caterpie to evolve into Metapod and now another final stage bug. The main difference being how pointy this one was when compared to Beautifly. "No rest for the wicked. Alrighty then. If you want to do this. Let's go...Wani-Wani!" Teddy shouted, taking Totodile's Pokeball from his belt and throwing it in the air. Unlike last time, Wani-Wani did not drop onto Teddy's head, but gracefully to the ground ahead of Teddy.
He was raring to fight, letting out his signature Pokemon cry. He dotted about on the ground, as though he was a boxer. Alright Wani. Let's start things off with scratch!" Teddy issued. Wani-Wani ran towards the Beedrill who still hovered at a relative height. He jumped into the Beedrill and let loose a barrage of scratches, then as he lost momentum in the air, flipped backwards towards Teddy. The Beedrill seemed surprisingly fazed by the whole situation and was already looking drowsy. It aimed a stringshot at Totodile, covering him in web. Wani-Wani tore through it however in no time, before heading in again for a scratch attack. This attack took down the Beedrill and it fell into the bushes.
Wani-Wani and Teddy stared at each other for a second before celebrating their second win.

A moment after returning Bulbasaur to its Pokeball, Hayes was coming up on where they'd all been sitting before when he heard Teddy talking about the battle that Caterpie had evolved in, and it sounded impressive... and reminded him a bit about Bulbasaur's battle, although it would've been the other way around. As he walked into the clearing, he saw Matt had returned a bit earlier and was already sitting, while Teddy had apparently run across a wild Beedril; not something you'd usually want to find around a campsite. "I hope there's not too many of those around..." Hayes said as he sat down, not too far from Matt as they both watched Teddy battle. It didn't look like Teddy would have much trouble with the Pokémon, so he'd sit back and enjoy it. "Oh, how'd it go over by your tree? " Hayes asked as they waited for the battle to end.

Matt was watching Teddy battle a wild Beedrill when Hayes returned to their original location, making a comment about hoping there weren't too many Beedrills around. "Really? I think they're awesome." Matt remarked with a grin, since he was a big fan of Bug-Pokemon. Teddy sat down next to Matt, both watching Teddy's battle, when Hayes asked how Matt's tree adventure went. Suddenly he felt a bit embarrassed, remembering Mudkip's honey-induced rampage. "Well... I ran into a Beautifly, and a few other Pokemon after. Oh! I caught a Pikachu, though it was on accident haha." Matt explained, laughing near the end. He still didn't know what he was going to do with the Pikachu once he got it healed at the Pokemon Center, but he figured he'd figure that out later. "How about your tree? Run into any strong Pokemon?"

"I don't mind them, but I wouldn't want us to be near a nest... I mean, they're a bit territorial, after all." Hayes added after Matt told him he didn't mind, and Hayes understood. It wasn't like he wasn't a fan of them, as Beedril wasn't a Bug-type he actually minded; but it didn't mean he wanted a swarm of them to show up as they were all talking. After that, Matt told Hayes about how it'd gone over at his tree, and it sounded like he'd had a harder time. "Beautifly, huh? I ran into a Wurmple, and it was actually a tough one." He answered, nodding as he recalled the battle until he realized what Matt had said. "A Pikachu! Accident or not, that's not bad... I didn't think there were many of them in the forest, if any at all." He remarked, trying to remember anything about the forest that he'd heard; it always stood out for Bug-types in stories, so anything else seemed to be uncommon as far as he knew.
"...How'd you manage to catch it by accident, anyway?" Hayes asked, curious about how that could've happened and if there was a story behind it.

Matt laughed and nodded his head after Hayes mentioned how territorial Beedrills could be. "True, I see your point there." He said, imagining them getting surrounded by a swarm of Beedrills. Even with his natural affinity towards Pokemon, he doubted he could go through a swarm without getting stung. Beedrill was a cool Pokemon, but it was definitely better to appreciate it from a safe distance. Hayes then mentioned running into a strong Wurmple. "I'm surprised to see Wurmple and Beautifly here in Kanto. The whole Wurmple evolution line is from Hoenn, they must be migrating or something." Matt remarked. He didn't know much about the migration patterns of Pokemon outside their native regions, but he assumed that what was going on here. It seemed like Kanto was a magnet for both Pokemon and people from different areas. Hayes then commented on him catching a Pikachu, and asked how he accidentally caught it. "I was shocked to run into one too, had no idea they made their homes here." He began. "And Mudkip kinda got carried away with the honey and ended up spilling my backpack. I guess one of my Pokeballs hit it when everything fell out."

Teddy returned Wani-Wani back to it's Pokeball and stepped back over the bush and into their current camp. He found Hayes and Matt sitting, presumably waiting for his triumphant return. They were talking about the encounters they had with their honey trees, although it sounded like Matt had a very interesting encounter afterwards involving a rare Pokemon. "Don't tell me you managed to catch your fabled Heracross Matt?!" Teddy asked. He had heard it was a particular favourite of Matt's and hoped that with their time in the forest, he could catch one.
"Sounds like you guys had some successful battles whilst I was gone" Teddy said, attaching Wani-Wani's Pokeball to his belt, only for him to trip over something. He knelt down and from the long grass pulled out a portion of Combee hive. "Guys. You fancy another shot at a honey trap?" Teddy said. If they agreed, they could spend the time waiting talking about horror stories. Finally.

Hayes nodded as Matt explained how he'd caught the Pokémon by accident, and when he remembered how Mudkip had acted when they'd been given the honey in the city it didn't surprise him that it was involved. He was about to reply when Teddy walked over after he'd finished off the Beedril, asking about the Pokémon Matt had caught and commenting on their battles... as well as tripping over something, but it turned out to be another stroke of good fortune as he lifted up a section of a Combee hive. "It wouldn't hurt. I mean, it could, but... you know." Hayes said after Teddy brought up using more of the honey, but it'd be worth a try if he still had any of the honey left over from the last attempt.
He'd check in his bag a moment later to see if he did, but it looked like he'd used more of the honey than he'd thought; the jar was empty. Hayes was about to say as much when he spotted another section of a Combee hive in the grass near where they were sitting, and he stood up and made his way over to it to pick it up; making an effort to handle it with care as he wasn't particularly eager to get honey all over himself if it attracted Bug-Types as easily as it did.

Teddy finally finished his battle with the Beedrill and asked if he had caught a Heracross from the way he was talking about the Pokemon he caught. Matt's head suddenly dropped at the mention of Heracross. But he sighed and looked back at Teddy, shaking his head. "No Heracross yet, but I did catch a Pikachu! Didn't mean to though. Probably gonna heal it at the Pokemon Center and then release it when its feeling better." Matt explained. Matt wasn't the kind of person to catch Pokemon he didn't plan on training, and as rare as Pikachu was, it didn't fit into the dream team he had already planned. While Teddy was walking towards Hayes and Matt, he suddenly tripped. Luckily he didn't seem to be hurt. In fact, he happened to find more honey and suggested they give it another go. Matt was more than ready to try again at finding a Heracross and got up. He planned on using the same tree he did last time. However, he stopped a few feet past the others, turned around, and placed a Pokeball in Teddy's hands. "Hold on to this little honey-addict for me for a second please." Without having to worry about Mudkip this time, Matt opened the Honey and poured it on the tree again, making sure not to get any on him this time. Once he was done he quickly returned to the Hayes and Teddy and would take Mudkip back so they could use their honey too. "I think someone mentioned scary stories a few Pokemon battles ago?" Matt asked with a sly grin once they would all return.

Teddy took a handful of honey from the combee hive, smearing it on a nearby tree, different to the previous one. He wondered what Pokemon might arrive this time. He hoped in his heart it was a Heracross, then he could give it to Matt. Teddy noticed the way Matt's eyes lit up when he talked about Heracross. There was part of him that didn't want to leave till his friend had a Heracross on his belt.
When he got back to camp, his friends were just making good on their honey traps. Matt passed over Mudkips Pokeball to Teddy, asking to keep hold of him whilst he prepared the tree. It did seem that Mudkip had a honey problem. Teddy held the Pokeball close. He looked down at the ball and imagined Mudkip curled up ready to be let out. Pokemon were interesting creatures. Before he knew it, Matt returned and Teddy gave Mudkip back. They sat down as Matt announced he was going to tell a scary story. Teddy sat cross legged and released all of his Pokemon, they all huddled close together and leant in intently for the story.
