Jade slinked out from behind the quartering machine, her eyes lingering on her trainer, before she moved over to the small guillotine, and pushed herself up to bring her forepaws onto the table where it was set. She leaned over, taking the rope in her teeth, and snapping it, letting the blade swish down, and decapitate the doll. A smirk crossed her face in amusement at the demonstration, before she hopped off, ignoring the small spill of tickets that unfurled from the doll's innards. No keys-- but it seemed some held other prizes inside instead.

Chima cocked his head at PJ's sudden change of demeanor. It happened as soon as he looked around this new room. Chima had been excited to get out of the dark, and even looking around he didn't really get it. He looked questioningly at Gekkit, who shrugged. It didn't really bother the young fox.

He hopped up on a table, padding forward and batting a bit at one of the little dolls, whose head was resting in a little wooden holder. Tail wagging, Chima got ready to grab it and drag the new toy away.

"Oh, sorry. Yeah uh, well I'm pretty sure that the bits of key for this one are inside the dolls. So, you know, we have to- hold on a sec." She stepped over to where Chima had hopped up.
"Not for you," Arezu said, scooping Chima off the table. The little scamp had been about to put one of the dolls in his mouth, and possibly set off the trap. He squirmed in her arms, but she scratched him behind the ear and he quieted.
"We have to use the things, on the dolls. At least, that's what I think we're supposed to do."
Both she and Chima jumped a bit when there was a loud thunk. One of the devices had gone off, and Arezu had thought there was no one to do it. When she looked, she saw one of Jay's pokemon nearby. "Huh, and here I thought for sure it'd be Hakuren."

Arezu set Chima on the floor, and he shook himself and hopped along back to his brother and PJ. "Well uh. I guess we should get to it then?" She stepped up to what looked like a large bucket, with a doll poised headfirst above the water inside. With the press of a button the doll was lowered into the water. It didn't really make sense how this would result in getting whatever was inside- holy s**t the doll started screaming in a wailing gurgle. Arezu froze. Should she- should she do something?
After a long fifteen seconds where Arezu stood stock still, the doll finally quieted. It had actually dissolved in the water, leaving behind a shiny gold key half at the bottom. "Well now I feel bad." She chuckled nervously, rolling up her sleeve to reach in and pick it out. "At least that one had a half in it."

☆ ☆【As Zoey and Eir briskly headed down the hall, the woman kept her ears peeled as the creepy chorus of childish voices as they kept at the dreaded countdown until their ‘game’ would officially start.”6… 5… 4...”Thankfully there was another door just up ahead, though for as quickly as they were moving it seemed like it wasn’t getting any closer no matter how fast they ran. Ingrid and Torgeir, who were already at the door and about to open it to see which room this was, immediately turned to look behind them just as their trainer and the Alolan Ninetales suddenly came barreling down the hallway as if some sort of demon was just on their heels. ”Quick, get inside!” Zoey shouted as they finally caught up, immediately scooping up the Meleeon in one arm and grabbing the Blaziken by the wrist as she kicked the door open. With her ushering, they immediately huddled inside the darkened room and slammed the door shut behind them.”3… 2… 1…!”the soft voices declared as they finally finished the countdown. Ignoring the darkness of whatever room they may be in, Zoey urged her Pokemon to not make a sound as she held her breath, pressing her ear against the door to listen for footsteps or anything else that would indicate that the children had started playing their creepy game. She couldn’t hear anything so far… but she wasn’t going to let herself at least attempt to relax just yet until she knew for certain that they were in the clear.
Several moments passed as she and her Pokemon stood there in complete silence, Zoey unconsciously holding Ingrid close to her chest like a teddy bear as she kept her ear to the door. Time seemed to slow to a crawl as they waited with bated breath, and after what felt like a goddamn eternity, the woman heard what sounded like a couple different pairs of footsteps coming from further down the hall in the direction they had just come from. The woman bit her lip nervously as they grew closer, closer, closer, and closer still towards the door… Arceus, this was just making her anxious, she hoped whoever it was out there couldn’t hear her rapidly pounding heart that sounded so much louder in her own ears as the footsteps kept coming. Suddenly, the footsteps came to a stop… just outside of the door they were hiding behind. Zoey felt her heartbeat quicken as she kept listening, hearing two childish voices, one male and one female, talking between each other in hushed tones just beyond the door. She couldn’t make out most of what they were saying, the quiet voices were practically unintelligible save for a few choice words as they continued to converse for several more moments.”Think… she’s…. here?”asked the soft female voice, which Zoey immediately recognized as the little girl with the werewolf mask. Suddenly, dead silence for what felt like far too long, even though it only lasted for maybe a minute. Then, Zoey gave a soft sigh of relief as the footsteps then picked up again, proceeding past the door and heading off further down the hallway. ☆ ☆【Well, thank Arceus that those creepy kids seemed be gone, hopefully for good… though Zoey wasn’t about to hold her breath since that just might turn out to be wishful thinking.”Blaze,”Torgeir spoke up from the darkness behind her in a stern ‘What the ******** did you do?’ tone of voice. ”Hey, don’t worry about it, aight? It seems to be over from the sounds of it,” the woman responded in kind, though it sounded more like she was trying to reassure herself than anything. That being said, maybe they should try to figure out where they ended up considering they had just hastily rushed into this random dark room without any second thought. Reaching into her purse with her free hand, Zoey fumbled around for her lighter for a moment before finally feeling her fingers brush against the smooth, cool metal of the device. Pulling it out, she shifted Ingrid over to hold her with one arm while her free hand gripped the lighter, flicking the top open and clicking the spark wheel with her thumb to get it to light. Arceus, she hoped that she somehow hadn’t neglected to fill this up with fuel… It took a couple tries of spinning the wheel before the spark finally caught and lit, the lighter flame giving off a soft orange glow. It certainly wasn’t very bright compared to a bunch of candles or a lamp, but it was definitely better than just standing in complete and utter darkness. She could make out Eir, Torgeir, and Ingrid’s face, and what looked like a few sets of wooden shelves from their position, but not much else beyond where the glow of the lighter was at its faintest.
Although, it seemed that the lighter wouldn’t be needed for much longer as faint pinpricks of light began to appear, small candle flames scattered all throughout the room jumping to life as they appeared to suddenly light on their own. Bit by bit, dim yellow light began to fill the room, and highlighting the unexpectedly unsettling contents held within. As it turned out, they were in what looked like a small room whose contents consisted entirely of large, oaken shelves filled entirely with an extensive collection of porcelain dolls, dozens upon hundreds of oddly realistic painted eyes staring directly at them. Ohhhh sweet Arceus, this was worse. This was SO much worse… ”Nope,” Zoey said as she immediately shut off her lighter before quickly making an about-face turn and opening the door, pulling her Pokemon back out into the hallway with her before quickly slamming the door shut once again behind them. No way was she going to stick around for potential creepy doll-centric shenanigans, she’d had more than enough of her fill with creepy animated objects between the mannequin and the samurai armor suit on the previous floor, thank you very much.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【Zoey took a deep breath, trying to force herself to relax now that they had narrowly evaded those weird masked kids and had escaped the goddamn doll room. Arceus, this was getting to be almost too much, and she hadn’t even come across any spiders at all throughout the haunted house even though there was surely not much left to go from here. Zoey liked to think of herself as relatively fearless in spite of the fact that she had a pretty common phobia of spiders and stinging insects, but these scares in particular were actually really getting to her… Sighing softly, she placed Ingrid back on the ground, straightening herself as she quickly shot a glance down the hall to see if there was anyone else around… hopefully not any of those creepy children from before. Thankfully, it seemed like they were the only ones here, and she couldn’t be more thankful for a break in between spooky events. ”Right… let’s just try to focus on gettin’ out, I’m sure we’ll have to solve one last riddle to try and find a key to the exit,” she suggested, already knowing to expect it since it was pretty much the main common theme in this place. However, it didn’t look like this floor in particular had a lot in the way of areas to explore, they had come across a study, a bathroom, a crawlspace, and a room reserved for housing a doll collection for some odd reason. There was only at least one more door that she could see just up ahead of them, and the only other room they hadn’t actually explored was the one where they had run into the creepy kids from before. And suffice to say Zoey was more than content to not have to go back there, at least not unless Orpheus’s last riddle would somehow involve having to go into that room to search for the key. There was no telling what was even in that room to begin with, as it had been completely dark inside except for the ring of candles that the kids had been using to perform their odd ritual. Not that she was all that eager to really find out, of course… They approached the last door, wondering what the final room on the final floor had in store for them. Hopefully not more dolls or creepy children at least… though Zoey remained on edge as she slowly reached for the iron doorknob, steeling herself in preparation for anymore scares that could potentially be lurking behind it.】☆ ☆

He soon changed to curious, though, as Chima took interest in what he'd found, and wandered a little closer, trying to get a better look at it. This place still unnerved him -- he recognized some of this, but not enough to get all of it, just the atmosphere itself was off -- but he was easy enough to distract. "What is it?" he questioned, then looked over at Arezu as she came over, and pulled the pokemon away from the contraption. He quirked his head to the side and watched the two, but for the first time, actually turned his attention to Arezu and listened in to what she was saying. Jay listened, an eyebrow quirked as he tried to get an understanding of this. So there were execution... methods here -- he assumed like a guillotine, or nooses or something -- and they had ot use them on some dolls? That was... exceedingly morbid. "Well ain't they just all sortsa creative," he remarked, frowning a bit. Maybe they should have been a bit more clear on warnings and such, for things like this. He couldn't imagine some poor kids walking in on this and scarring themselves in an attempt to get back out... His frown deepened as he heard the sound of something being set off and very carefully moved over, gently brushing his fingers over, and then tilting his head quizzically as they alighted on some sort of paper material. He pulled it out of the doll and, after running his fingers over, realized they were tickets. "Don' s'pose these tickets here are yours?" he asked, unsure just what he'd found. He assumed that meant she wasn't hurt, at least. Meanwhile, Jade was gleefully having fun investigating other devices, and perused around the fire pyre, before her eyes flashed, and she kicked the button, sending flames leaping up to quickly begin consuming the doll. Koda moved away, a bit unnerved himself, but Jade simply sat back and observed, smirking as the other half of the key was revealed. She was hardly a murderer or anything, but she had to admit, these contraptions were an entertaining way to progress.

Scarlett decided to use the zubat as cover for her escape, army crawling along the floor and down the hall while the swarm still filled the room in order to round the corner. Once she was in the clear, she darted up the nearby staircase and continued to hurry through the house while she still had a lead, perhaps faster than the attraction expected any patron to move, because Scarlett found that there were no tricks or anything jumping out at her while she attempted to gain more distance from Niji while she had the chance.

☆ ☆【Grasping the chilled iron knob in her hand, Zoey turned the door and slowly opened it, peering through the crack at the strangely bright room inside. To her surprise, what lay beyond the doorway was what looked to be a game room. Hell, it looked like a game room that belonged more inside a pub than in a haunted house, between the hardwood flooring, the large bar setup towards the far right corner of the room, including barstools, a tall shelf full of numerous bottles of liquor (all empty, she assumed) and an admirable collection of beer and wine glasses, the fancy antique décor on the walls including a few neon signs, the brick wall-like appearance of the walls themselves, and the oddly modern looking overhead recessed lighting that gave the room a notable brightness while also providing a fair bit of ambience as well. Upon stepping into the room, Zoey noted the other commodities present inside that were fairly typical of any game room, a pool table with all billiard balls contained in a triangle rack, a trio of dartboards lined up against the adjacent wall a few feet away from the bar, an air hockey rink, and lastly, a rounded table towards the center of the room with four chairs with playing cards and wooden chips lined up on the tabletop for a game of poker. She noticed a few other odds and ends here and there as well, including a popcorn machine that appeared to be completely devoid of any popcorn and non-functional and an old vintage jukebox. ”There seems to be a strange disparity of old n’ new tech goin’ on here…” Zoey murmured aloud, furrowing her brow as she and her Pokemon made their way inside, ”Don’t make even a lick of sense…” Still, this was the only other room on this floor that seemed even remotely worth searching for a key or any clue on how to access what she assumed was the exit out of this place.
”Spread out and search the place, there’s gotta be a key somewhere in here,” she suggested as she nodded towards her Pokemon, mainly at Ingrid and Torgeir since she doubted Eir would want to leave her side. The Blaziken nodded curtly, approaching the pool table and the air hockey machine to see if maybe either of them had a key hidden somewhere inside. Ingrid, on the other hand, was much more interested in the popcorn machine, even though it clearly had no food inside of it whatsoever. Zoey and Eir decided to check out the bar, perhaps the key was hidden in one of the glasses or in the many different empty liquor bottles. There were a LOT of them, though… it’d probably take forever to search each and every one, but Zoey was intent on giving this place a thorough investigation before they decided to move on elsewhere. As they approached the bar, however, the lights began to blink erratically for a few seconds before stopping, and without warning the vintage jukebox sprung to life as soft, smooth, jazzy tunes that would sound at home in an old fashioned 50's style noir film began playing through the rather fuzzy-sounding speakers. Before Zoey could even make any comment on what had just happened, she nearly jumped a foot in the air when she looked back towards the bar to see the face of a familiar Zoroark grinning up at her as he stood behind the counter.”So nice to see you once again, mein Mädchen~”Orpheus greeted as he gave a flourish, still wearing his bowler hat but had exchanged the tuxedo for a bartender’s getup, including the long-sleeved white shirt and dark vest on top with the black long pants and apron, while he pretended to wipe down the countertop with a rag in hand,”My my, you seem to be lacking a bit of color in your cheeks… I would offer a drink to help warm you up a little, but unfortunately we are all out of stock, as you can see.”The woman took a deep breath, trying to relax and ease up since it seemed even just something as harmless as Orpheus suddenly appearing out of nowhere was enough to almost make her run straight for the goddamn hills. ”Back again for more, eh?” she inquired rhetorically as she placed a hand on one of the stools closest to her, ”Whaddya want this time? Here to give us more of yer ridiculous riddles so we can find the key ya’ve hidden and get outta here?” The Zoroark curiously quirked a brow at that, before that same wolfish grin slowly spread across his face.”I can certainly see why you would think that, but to answer your question fairly and honestly… yes and no,”he responded smoothly, though there was no mistaking the hint of slyness that hide underneath his gentlemanly demeanor as he tossed the rag away and slid out from behind the bar to make his way to the poker table,”Before we get down to brass tacks with all this talk about puzzles and riddles, however… Allow me to humor you with a, shall we say… friendly little game first. You are familiar with poker, ja?”
Zoey hummed contemplatively as she considered Orpheus’s offer. So, he wanted to play a card game with her? It certainly sounded harmless enough… but she couldn’t help but feel that there was something else involved as well that he wasn't quite telling her. ”Sure, I’ve played the standard and a few different game types on a few occasions before. What’s the catch, though?” she asked, narrowing her eyes towards him as she and Eir joined him at the table, the Ninetales watching the Zoroark warily as they all seated themselves around the table.”Catch? There certainly is none, Fraulein, rest assured that I simply want to play a game. Nothing more, nothing less~”Orpheus assured with a grin as he picked up one of the decks of cards, shuffling them in with a skillfully practiced hand as he kept his sharp amber gaze trained solely on her. ”Oh yeah? Well, ye’ll have to forgive me for not quite believin’ that yer just doin’ this for shits n’ giggles,” Zoey said, not once letting up her guarded expression as Orpheus finished his shuffling and began dealing the cards out between them, ”I’ll play yer game, though...” Her eyes carefully watched his hands as he split the deck, seven cards to him and seven more to her, noting each and every minute motion his wrists and fingers made just in case he had the idea to try any funny business and hide a few extra cards up his sleeves so he could cheat his way to victory.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【The soft, jazzy, noir-esque tunes continued to fill the room from the jukebox as Zoey and Orpheus sat across from each other at the poker table, which certainly made the atmosphere feel like she was actually playing poker in a shady bar on the corner of the street with a main crowd full of drifters, cutpurses, mafia gang members and other n’er-do-wells. Orpheus chuckled softly as he noted the way she watched his hands as he dealt the cards, hawk-eyed, not missing even a single beat as he tossed the final card of her hand over to her little pile.”Quite suspicious, hm? Are you afraid that I would cheat or attempt to play dirty as a means to win, Fraulein?”he asked in a lightly teasing tone, gathering the remainder of the cards in a nice neat stack and placing them in the center of the table. Zoey huffed softly at that, picking up her own cards and shuffling through them in her hands to see what she had while glancing over at the Zoroark every so often. ”Well, not that I’d openly accuse anyone of doin’ so, but I wouldn’t have put it past ya to try to pull a fast one on me,” she said with a slow nod, having played poker on several different occasions before she was no stranger to cheating in those kinds of games. Hell, she had done it quite a few times before herself, mainly to help secure a win for herself when there was a lot of money on the line.”Oh? It certainly does sound a bit counterintuitive since there is only two of us, but this way it is fairly fast-paced and interesting. We will pass a number of cards between one another in accordance with each pass in a standard game, three for the first, two for the second, and one for the third. After the third ‘betting round’ is finished, we will show each other our hands. The player who can make the highest hand using five of their seven cards wins the game. Sounds simple, ja?”This version was admittedly not one that Zoey had ever played before, but by Orpheus’s explanation it certainly sounded easy enough. Still, she couldn’t help but feel that there was something just a bit off about all of this… ”Sure, I’m game for it. But are ya absolutely sure there ain’t any catch? Like, what happens if either of us win the game?” she inquired, intending to get a proper answer out of him this time. She wasn’t going to buy into the idea that he was only doing this just for fun, not yet at least. Considering that he had literally shown up out of nowhere one moment and wanted to play a card game the next, she had perfect reason to believe there was some sort of motive involved.”So I see you let very little slip by you, Fraulein…”Orpheus commented playfully, his amber eyes meeting hers once again with that same grin still plastered on his face,”Well, if you absolutely want me to speak the truth, then so I shall. If you beat me, then I will give you the key to the final door and allow you to leave this place. No muss, no fuss, no convoluted puzzles… Think of it as a free pass, as a gift of goodwill from me to you.”Zoey had to admit that sounded quite promising, he was literally offering to let her have the exit key without having to solve any puzzles or riddles. It would definitely save a great deal of time and trouble searching for it, for sure. ”And… what if I don’t beat ya?” she asked, knowing that she likely wouldn’t like the answer, but there had to be something in it for Orpheus as well if he managed to win.”If I win… Well, to put it lightly, I will keep the key all to myself, and you will face punishment by the many horrors that reside on this floor,”the Zoroark’s grin widened so much that it seemed to almost entirely split his head in two as he gave a low, eerie, almost maniacal laugh as he held his cards up flush to his nose, fanning them in front of them with a flick of his wrist,”So… How about it, Mädchen? Do you still wish to play?”
Zoey shuffled her feet in discomfort at that, considering how intense the scares had been so far, she would rather not end up trapped and having to face whatever sort of ‘punishment’ would be thrown at her. Still, she wasn’t going to just puss out and back down from the challenge, that wasn’t the Nizhoni Larsson way, after all… ”Yeah, I’ll still play, and lemme tell ya that I play to win, so bring yer worst,” she said in a daring tone, holding up her own cards as she glared daggers at Orpheus over the top of her hand as if to say ‘Let’s go, ********’. The Zoroark simply laughed in return, sounding quite pleased at her challenging approval.”Very well then, if this is what you have decided, then it cannot be changed until the game ends. And I will warn you…”he affirmed, returning the glare towards Zoey as his grin never once wavered,”Never once have I lost a game of poker, and I do not intend to start now~”】☆ ☆
