"Think so," Jun murmered, stretching as he rose to his feet. He'd been through worse. "Dunsparce okay?" he asked Ledian, who had floated down with a worried look. The little winged bug...thing shook his head, flapped his wings once, and folded them in with only a little discomfort.
Despite not knowing what he was doing, Jun still checked Dune carefully for any new damage to his healing wing. Best as he could tell, it wasn't much worse that before. The earlier wound was more of a ... stab, than a pull. Normally he would have put the little guy away like he had Cricket when they entered the house, but from what he could tell Chickpea and made a friend of him. Also, Dunsparce and Ledian were less likely to cause a mess than Cricket the giant bird.
After that, the basement was almost a sidenote. When they were finished, Jun -carefully- went back up the steps, carrying Dune because the little guy seemed a bit nervous. "Don't forget to check about your totodile," he mentioned, setting Dune down.
Dune shook himself, stretching his wings out once they were outside so he could open them wide. "That was sc-scary... didn't like that.." ] Maybe he was getting a bit ahead of himself with all this adventure talk with Chickpea...
"So, where to next?" Jun asked. He was thinking about going back to baking, or maybe even the corn maze again. He had... had enough of haunted houses for this year.
"Borrow… books?" Esben’s face scrunched up as he tried to comprehend the idea of ‘borrowing’ things like books from any kind of place. "No, but I don’ need to know that! A warrior ain’ got time for books," he chimed. Sure, there were elders in his clan who knew how to read and he’d heard it was important in some situations. But he didn’t have time to waste on that! "Why, can you?"
Esben scowled. "Nuh uh! Dragon’s don’ work with anyone!" He stated defiantly. "Dragons are no good evil monsters! So there!" Esben perked up as Julie exclaimed he could write stories. Huh…. "… I guess. I can’t write though, that takes too much time! I can just tell people!" He grinned and looked at her, head tilting though as a small green bean of a pokemon came bounding up to the crew.
"Oh?" He thought a Chico would be much bigger. And he voiced just that. "I thought he’d be bigger," Flef eyed Chico curiously though from his place on the ground, wiggling and bobbing up and down as he gave a few chirps in greeting to the other pokemon. He reminded him of Teeg! With the leaves on their heads and everything! Were they totally related? They could be! 'Hi!'

Julie nodded. "Mhm! But you gotta return 'em, 'cause they aren't yours! They're... commun... communal? They're part've the community!" she tried to explain, smiling despite her tremendous fail. She wasn't dumb -- far from it -- but she hadn't exactly had to explain this kind of thing before. It was sort of fun, though, teaching someone her own age stuff. She smiled brighter at his question. "Yeah! My mom taught me! I can read most stuff-- want me to read you something? Maybe one of the books about warriors and stuff!" she suggested excitedly, "One of the stories!"
She scrunched up her face at his next claim, however. "... But Esben, there are a lotta gym leaders who train with dragons," she pointed out slowly, "And they aren't evil. 'N I've met some dragons! 'N some pokies evolve INTO dragons! They can't all be evil!" Right? She was pretty positive on this, actually. She eyed Esben uncertainly. She was all about warriors and sure, dragons attacking didn't sound that farfetched -- it fit some storybooks she'd heard, and pokemon could be vicious sometimes, it wasn't completely unheard of -- but not all dragons were bad....
She gasped at his idea to just tell people, and quickly reached forward, grabbing the younger boy's shoulders with wide eyes. "But Esben! What if they FORGET?" she pointed out, as if horrified by the idea. It was childish exaggeration, but, what if they did! Maybe she could write his stories down for him... She wasn't that great a writer, though. Maybe Torin could do it?
She pulled her hands away, looking down at Chico with a smile, despite Esben's observation. "He'll get bigger! Especially when he evolves!" she pointed out. He was kinda small, comparatively, though. But she wasn't worried! She didn't need big pokemon. Chico looked up at the two trainers, following the conversation, but he blinked and looked over at the chirping fluffball nearby, blinking a bit. Um. ".... Hi," he returned uncertainly.

Christian nodded his head upon Jun's confirmation, he turned his attention to Chickpea. He'd seemed to be the only one who'd enjoyed the house's 'surprise', but it was still a good idea to check him over for any injuries. A standard pat-down was his method, and the blonde paid special attention to any winces of pain or indication that Chickpea was anything but 100%. The Chikorita stared back at him, red eyes wide, and did his best to stay as still as he could for his trainer, since this seemed important and everything.
"Alright, everything checks out. You've got a clean bill of health, kid," Christian proclaimed afterwards, only to wince and rub the back of his head as he straightened up, "I'm jealous." Chickpea chirped excitedly, his gaze lingering, then bounded over to Dune. Were all pokemon this durable? Or was this just a case of good fortune?

"I hadn't forgotten," Christian reassured as he climbed the stairs. The basement had been... explored, and they'd even come across Dr. Frankenstein, though he'd been too absorbed in his work (giving the middle finger to the natural order by creating his own version of life) to notice two banged up adults.
"Slow down, Chickpea," he cautioned him as the pokemon rushed past, little legs working overtime to pull himself up the stairs in a timely fashion so that he could reach Dune, who'd had the luxury of being carried. "Are you okay?" he huffed, winded from his climb. He extended a vine out to pat Dune's head. "We can do something not scary next," he insisted.
Just as he'd promised, Christian made a beeline for the nearest haunted house attendant once they were outside, intent on finding out more about his newest capture. "Hey there!" he greeted the young man dressed in a blood-stained lab coat; Dr. Frankenstein's assistant? One of the lucky ones. "Loved the haunted house, my friend and I had a blast. If I could give one tip though, maybe next year keep your stairs just stairs, yeah? Anyway! I've got a quick question for you." From his commentary to his suggestion, Christian's verbal bombardment ended only when he whipped out his pokeball and released Toto. He gestured to it, though was careful to keep his hand out of biting range, "This wouldn't happen to be one of your employees would it? I found it in the secret upstairs room, amongst the dolls."
The attendant stared from Christian to Totodile. "Uh..." Eventually he answered the question, 'no, he'd never seen the pokemon before', and Christian flashed a grin. "Thanks. Have a great day. C'mon, Toto." Deciding to allow it to stay out, Christian only motioned for the Totodile to follow as he rejoined Jun. "Guess who's a permanent member of the team?"
To his question on what to do next, Christian didn't need to think long. "Let's try baking again. Maybe this time we'll actually win."

Esben wasn’t keen on sharing, if the whole situation with Flef hadn’t been evident enough. Still though, he couldn’t help but be slightly more curious about the case of libraries. If only for the stories of great warriors and battles and whatnot. "You can't keep'em? That sounds dumb!"
He turned a bit red in the face as Julie confirmed that she knew how to read and offered to do so for him. Something about it made him think of his home and family and his expression was somber briefly as a wave of homesickness passed over him. Immediately though he shook it off and perked up, grinning widely. "Mm sure I suppose! But only the best stories! It’s gotta have warriors and fighting and winning battles and ACTIONS!" He acted out this as he spoke to try and give a visual of the sort of action he expected.
His expression soured once again though. What was with everyone trying to tell him that dragons weren’t all that bad? Again too, it was brought to his attention that there were individuals in the world consorting with the wicked beasts. "Yes they are," the Viking stamped a boot hard on the ground. "Those people are just evil then! Dragons aren’t for training with, they’re for slaying! Anything else is wrong!" And he would stand by these claims until the world ended. Maybe.
"Whu-" Esben was caught off guard. Would they forget? He scoffed immediately. "Of course they won’t! You don’t forget epic stories! I remember a bunch! SO MANY!" He seemed assured that this was just fact and gave Julie a mighty pat on the shoulder. "I’ll make sure they remember!"
"Will he?" The Viking made a face, nose scrunching up as he eyed the Chikorita, clearly unimpressed. Flef wiggled and tried to roll on over closer to Chico to get a closer look, Teeg following behind to assure that the fluffball didn’t get himself stuck. Flef looked between the two observantly before focusing on Chico again chirped unintelligibly again. ’You’re a Teeg too!’

Julie puffed out her cheeks and scrunched up her nose, though not so much in irritation as in confusion. "But Esben, if you don' return 'em, no one else can read 'em!" she pointed out. She looked more thoughtful as he listed his demands for stories, but only grinned at the end, not at all daunted by his standards. "I can do that!" she decided, "I can think of at least a few stories that got all that!"
She crossed her arms over her chest as he insisted that dragons were evil, and even furrowed her little brow as she stared at them. She didn't argue, though. She just stared, like a parent very disappointed in their child for throwing a fit, or breaking a plate. Eventually, though, she shook her head and just moved past the subject-- he'd see, dragons weren't all bad. It would be impossible to go very far without seeing that! Maybe she'd even catch one that coudl show him as much. Was there such thing as a fluffy dragon?
She grinned a bit at his claim that people wouldn't forget his stories, wobbling a bit with the pat, but not daunted by it. "What if they get bonked on the head and get all wibbly wobbly after ya leave, though!" she pointed out, having more fun with this than actually taking it seriously. She didn't actually mind whether he told people or not, after all, or whether he got it written down, though she did kinda wanna try and make a color picture book of one of his stories now.
She nodded at his question, and turned to keep walking. "Mhm! He's gonna evolve! Yer pokies aren't that big either, y'know. Aren't they gonna get bigger when they evolve too?" she pointed out, putting her hands behind her back as she walked. Chico was glancing over at Julie, and hesitantly moved to start following, but blinked and stared at Flef at the comment. "I'ma.... huh? A whah?" he repeated in confusion, head tilting to the side. A teeg?

"Now who’s got time for that?" He remarked nonchalantly, clearly unconcerned about depriving others the joys of their books. Libraries would be safer without him in them, clearly. He huffed at her expression in regards to his claims about dragons; let her be like the rest! He knew that dragons were terrible and he wasn't changing his mind any time soon! Julie would see once one tried to eat her or her sheep.
"What?" Esben gave her a bit of a look, clearly shocked at such an idea. He considered it a moment before promptly shaking his head. "Well then they don’t get to remember! If you forget with just a bonk to the head then you’re no real warrior and don’t deserve the warrior stories!" Arms folded over his chest, he narrowed a look at Julie. "So don’t get bonked! A real warrior has to have a thick head!" He knocked a fist to the side of his own before pointing at Julie. "I think we’ll have to train and toughen you up first if that’s what you’re worrying about!"
"Oh? Into what? A flower?" Esben commented, continuing along with Julie through the maze, still clearly unimpressed. "Are your sheep going to be pink too?" He grinned, glancing at the one out as well. Though this one looked different, which made him curious. Flef chirped and wiggled again, still staring at Chico. ’A teeg! A teeg!’ Teeg looked confused, glancing at Chico curiously. ’A… Teeg? That’s my name though…,’

Julie rolled her eyes and shook her head. "You should make time! Didn' your clan ever help each other, Esben? They shoulda taught ya that! A clan can't function if it doesn' work together, right?" she chided, one hand on her hip while she used the other to waggle a finger at the other boy. If she were any older, she would probably be chiding him about manners. But she wasn't, and she was only half serious anyway, as any child was when it came to trying to scold another on... customs and such.
Julie looked shocked at Esben's declaration. "But Esben! You have to let the common's know of your great deeds! You gotta let your legend live!" she exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air dramatically. She was 100% also tempted to hit him on the head with a stick to test his own theory, but years of her parents, Torin, and the ittiest of bittiest bits of common decency told her that was probably not the right thing to do. She scrunched up her face, then promptly... punched Esben's arm. Not super hard, but she wasn't exactly doing a playful slap, either. "Don' doubt Chico, Esben!" she demanded, "He's just as tough as your pokies! And he's only gonna get even stronger! All my pokemon are!" It was funny, usually she was very light, childish, playful, even in her chidings and lecturing, but she seemed pretty earnest in this claim. Fiery. Determined. She didn't really like Esben's constant skepticism, especially over her starter, and especially because of his size. Chico was small, but so was she! And so was Esben. And that was no reason to doubt any of their abilities.
Speaking of Chico, the pokemon was trying to keep his attention on his trainer, but it was being persistently split back to the other two pokemon belonging to the boy. He looked confused as Flef insisted, but looked over to the turtwig when she finally spoke up. "Your name? Didjur trainer name you that?" he asked, a bit too seriously, as if he were trying to find the answer to some deep mystery that had been plaguing him for years. Really though, he was just trying to figure out what a teeg was....

- "A’course they did! That’s how you survive!" Esben stomped a foot again, narrowing a disapproving look at Julie and her claims. How dare she!
"My clan’s taught me all kinds of things! What do you know anyways, huh?!" He huffed, poking at her with a finger of his own. While Julie might’ve not been entirely serious, Esben was absolutely, unnecessarily serious abut this whole fiasco. He certainly didn’t take kindly to someone questioning him or his clan, that was for sure.
Esben eyed Julie a moment before sticking his tongue out at her. "Wha? The greatly Julie the Brave doesn’ think people will remember?" He teased as a child would, poking her in her dramatic stance and laughing a bit. "It’ll live don’t you worry! Legends never die, they become a part of you! That’s what Ulla told me and I believe it!" He folded his arms behind his head, tilting it some. "I bet you know a buncha legends and you don’ need a book to remember!"

He stuck a tongue at her again in defiance. "My bears come from some of the strongest stock in our clan! I know they’ll be strong!" He hoped back a few steps as though preparing for battle, grin on his face. "Your Chico looks like a veggie! Veggies aren’t all that strong Julie, sorry!" Wow, dissing pokemon. Esben was really going to that level here, but he wouldn’t have someone telling him not to doubt! Not again at this rate.
Flef continued in his excited chirping as the two spoke, clearly still analyzing the pair and taking in the similarities. Teeg looked away from her fellow teammate to Chico, head bobbing in a bit of an uncertain nod. ”Uhm yes… he did! I don’t quite know why though.” She didn’t mind the name, but it certainly wasn’t what she’d expected. Curiously she eyed the Chikorita a little put off by the serious face going on. ”Should that not be my name? I’m sorry, what’s yours?” She was a little concerned that she was in trouble or something. What had Flef done?

Despite Esben's attitude, Julie grinned, just swatting his hand away when he poked her in return. "Well that's how a liberry works too, Esben! Ya return the books to help yer clan! Yer community! Neighbors and stuff! They're part've your clan here! Least, where I'm from," she declared confidently, placing her hands on her hips. A clan was just like... a neighborhood, right? ... Totally. She was definitely confident on this stuff.
Julie scrunched up her nose but gave that same toothy grin as he teasingly called back to her declared nickname and title, but rested her hands back on her hips as she listened, again a bit dubious. "But Esben, how can they remember the legends if they forget them! I only know some legends 'cause people told me 'em, or I read 'em in books! And the people that told me 'em probably read them in books, too! 'N you'd get ta share your story with so many more people, too! You could write a lotta books and send 'em out! Get 'em in LIBERRIES! Have people read 'em and then let other people read 'em and then EVERYONE would know your story!" she declared, hands up in the air at the great scale of this potential.

Julie's hands quickly came down to chide Esben for doubting her pokemon, though. She stared challengingly, but grinned only at Esben's defiance to her claim. "Nuh-uh Esben! Broccoli is really strong unless ya steam it! 'N so are carrots! 'N b'sides, eating veggies makes you super strong!" she declared, leaning forward with her hands on her hips, "I bet my pok'mon could beat yours in a battle any day!" she decided, more than certain. She blinked as she noticed the exit nearby, and tugged on Esben's fluff. "C'mon, I'll show you right now!" she declared, running out. She blinked, though, when she found her brother wasn't there, then looked around. "... Hold on, first we gotta find Torry. I think he went in to go find us," she decided, before bolting around to restart the maze, yet again.
Chico was struggling to keep a watch on his person and what seemed to be possibly escalating tensions between her and the other small person, but sitll look at Teeg. "I dunno... I guess it's a good enough name," he replied uncertainly, glancing at Flef. He was just.... confused. "... That thing kept calling me it, though." He looked back at Teeg, then flushed, shuffling his feet a little. "It's uh... Chico. My trainer gave it to me," he admitted, not really sure his was any better.
