I battled and I PASSED

The not-quite-familiar tug and falling sensation began as soon as the nervous wreck known as Yin entered the door. He arrived back in the painting, shoulders hunched and looking around fretfully, a boil on the brink of snapping. Behind him was a huge bamboo basket, filled to the brim with heavy nets. There was a harness poking out from beneath it.

Glancing around he saw others astride beasts, bamboo baskets firmly harnessed to their backs. And then the horrifying realization set in. He picked up the basket quickly, revealing his small, blobby mantis. Small threads went from the harness to the poor insect, and it was probably only the fact that they were in a painting that ensured that it was not completely destroyed. It waved its claws at him feebly, a welcoming gesture, but he could not even force himself to smile. Not now. Not today.

Professor Zhang Liulian was now speaking, and he listened for the instructions. Okay, the battlefield did not always go as planned. He knew that. But being creative? Did that really have to include strapping a poor tiny mantis to a huge basket? Brute force was going to get him no where on this one. As they spoke he began to use his claws to free the mantis-blob, instead strapping the harness and basket to himself. That done he picked up the tiny mantis, cupping it in the palm of his overly large hand as he straightened up.

well, it appeared as though they would be doing battle. But only to capture, not to kill. Wild beast appeared suddenly and wordlessly he set off. He just needed to do this. Do this and get it over with so he could get out of this class, go back to Amityville, and make sure that everyone he cared about was safe.

To make sure that he had not, as his dreams had suggested, slaughtered Princess Eva and then tortured and torched his bonded. He needed out of this place with its etiquette and designs and fanciful clothing.

Before long he spotted a wild beast. But it was much too large for his mantis. It was similar to pigimp but rather large, and with fearsome tusks. Oh, he could take it on, but his tiny mantis?

His tiny mantis was spreading out his wings and advancing to the tips of his claws, ready to battle this creature. He glanced down at it. Who really cared? This was just a class. If this little mantis-blob wanted to take the world why should he not? So he walked toward the huge imp and his mantis...which he should name...Wēi, Wēi was a good name, was set down in front of it.

The pigimp approached, sniffing Wēi, and in the process Wēi was knocked around a bit, getting damage from the creature. In a fit of bravado Wēi lashed out at the pigimp's snout, dealing a few long but shallow cuts along the sensitive area.

Now that he was in place Wei was determined to attack the pigimp's eye. He got in another scratch on the eyelid of the creature. Raging it tossed its head, first of all knocking him lose and then as it slammed its head back it smacked the tiny mantis and it plummeted toward the ground.

Yin hissed as he watched this occur. "Get up Wei, this fight is not yet over. Mantises are predators, and if this is your prey you should not back down. We kill what we must." Had that not been what his dreams were showing him? Kill when necessary. No matter who. He reached up to adjust the straps of the basket, leaving his hands to rest there so he would not be tempted to go forward and help his mantis-blob.

"You are not fighting to the best of your abilities. You are much smaller, what you need to be doing is going for its weak points. Find its pressure points and attack those directly." What Yin was saying made perfect sense, thought on a pigimp? All of that flesh made it a touch hard to locate the pressure points.

Wei looked at his opponent. Okay so he needed to find out where to attack. He needed a vantage point. Using his wings and claws he scaled the giant, knocked down once but he kept going until he was on the pigimp's back. Then he began an odd....dance? Or so it appeared. His feet went every which way, claws tapping out until he managed to make the pigimp twitch oddly. Then he attacked the spot in earnest, doing quick rounds of attacks with his front claws and causing the pigimp's to go a bit numb.

As the pigimp squealed and bucked in protest Wei was getting the ride of his life. The small mantis was knocked around a bit but he dug his claws in and held on, pinching a very sensitive hunk of flesh in his claws. Mantises knew how to keep a grip on something, from snakes larger than they were to smaller prey.

In other words: Wei was learning how to be a cowboil.

"Wei, that is enough," Yin cautioned. He did not want the mantis-blob severely injured on his watch. He reached behind him to grab a net out of the basket on his back, flinging it out toward the pigimp without giving Wei a chance to move. It was fine though, as the mantis was easily able to slip from under the net. The pigimp was fully secured under the net however, and though it struggled there was no way that it could free itself.

He moved over and let the slightly weak looking mantis-blob crawl onto his and up to his shoulder, staring down at the pigimp. He still had the basket harnessed to his back with the remaining three nets in it, and the capture had almost seemed easy. "Is this it Wei? If that is all you have done a very fine job."

The words were barely out of his mouth before the feeling of falling up began and he found himself in the classroom. He glanced back down at the painting, hoping to see a mantis-shaped blob, but it was too small for him to find. He turned and bowed deeply to the instructors, trying to show that he appreciated the entire week of class, and then left the room, not ready to face reality but knowing he had to do it.

Lumi nodded slowly as she contemplated this idea, perhaps there was an enchantment on this building that allowed her to believe in such a creature to exist. She looked around and wondered what other things had happen since her time here that could possibly be part of her imagination as well. Looking back at the professor she bowed once again,

"I thank you for the answers, if it is alright I would like to take my leave and see if I can't think on this a little more."

She figured she would wait for the instructors approval before she left the final class.
