Alex opened his notebook and stared at it as his page filled itself out with information again like it always did.
He looked over at Zane when he said magic didn't exist. He chuckled at him. "Not everything is explainable with science. Some things just legitimately are broken and impossible to plausibly explain. I could give u several examples of this if you want." Several instances popped up in Alex's head, then remembered that most of them sounded completely crazy to a regular person. His eyes wandered over his current group of people he was near and shook his head. Yeah, like he had room to say his stories were crazy when he was by two elves, a rock person, a drawing come to life, and a guy with raptor talons for feet.

History Sheet- Alex Rider
Birth
Date of Birth: July 1st, 1993
Location: A small town near Mt. St Helens called Firestone
Conditions: Regular
Childhood:
Location: Regular house in Firestone. Nothing special, a one story with a small front yard and a backyard that opened into the woods.
Conditions: About middle class. It was just Alex and his mother, no one else. His mother never attempted to find any partners.
Early Education: Went to the local pre-k and first six grades. All fairly uneventful and Alex received par or above par grades.
Middle Education: Alex began to gain his lazy attitude and slacked off in school, his grades were on par, but they could have been better.
Relationships: Alex kept to himself for the most part. Most children avoided him and the few who did talk to him were out of necessity or short answer.
Events: As a young 1 year old, an explosion occurred from his nursery. Miraculously he was unharmed and survived with minor scratches and bruises. The house was half gone however and had to be repaired for over a year before it was livable again. This made it all the more amazing and strange that Alex had escaped without any kind of burn marks of any kind.
Teenage Years:
Location: Same as before
Conditions: Same as before
Occupation: Alex was pushed by his mother to find a job during his summer vacations but he never found anything that stuck with him. About his sophmore year he met Jason Richards and began to work for him when he could.
Secondary Education: A terrible time for his school life. Strange occurrences happened often to Alex and he skipped school several times to escape from "monsters". For some reason no one else noticed these strange occurrences except his mother who told him to just accept things as they were and work through them. Because of his behavior, his grades suffered greatly and he passed high school with the lowest passing grade possible, something unheard of in his area.
Relationships: Jason Richards entered his life at this time and became a special friend to Alex and his mother.
Events: Unbeknownst to everyone else, Alex received a special pack in a dream that he was told would hold anything he put into it, but wouldn't ever burden him. When he awoke he found a similar bag lying on his bed. As he soon found out, it had the same capabilities, yet looked and felt like a regular bag. If he needed anything he had put into it he simply reached in and out it came. If anyone looked into it other than him however, it would be strangely empty.
Adulthood:
Location: Alex moved out to San Fransisco for a short while, trying to go to school, but was kicked out after a Benson burner strangely set fire to a classroom which quickly destroyed a building.
Conditions: At this time, Alex was middle/poor as he had a job that barely kept him afloat working at a repair shop. He lived with the owner above the store along with his daughter.
Occupation: repairman
Higher Education: A few credits were his before he was kicked out. Only two semesters worth.
Relationships: Strangely he did start up a romantic relationship(if one could call it that) with the repairmen's daughter, Rachel. She could see the same things Alex could and they had an honest relationship. Things got difficult when her father began to question their talk and her daughter tried to make him understand. She threatened to leave and Alex left instead, insisting she stay. He promised he'd be back someday.
Events: There were several times when Alex had to fight off monsters but he never destroyed any important landmarks but he did cause quite a bit of traffic once on the freeway when some hellhounds decided to surprise him while driving. Several cars were destroyed because of this and Alex escaped blame.

Likes:
1)His tools- everything a guy would need to take apart anything literally
2)His special bottomless, seemingly weightless bag
3)His favorite pair of screwdrivers that can turn to celestial bronze daggers with the right flick of the wrist
4)Blueprints, diagrams, graphs, and technology in general
5)Fire and anything fiery(food/people/etc)- reminds him of who and what he believes himself to be

Dislikes:
1)Most authority figures- he hasn't met one that wasn't skeptical or suspicious of him
2)bitter foods
3)water- Alex can't swim at all and it positively afraid of the ocean and deep water
4)enclosed spaces- huge claustrophobic, feels strangled inside. windows are a must in any building
5) Super positive people- is there really that much to be happy about in the world? Come on!

Sigma looked over his desk and saw his book being filled with information he did not want to share with the world so with a sneer he leaned over and shut it. He did not want to think about any of that, not in the middle of class anyway. Maybe when he got the chance to be alone some place.

But right now. . .meh.

D'cund, on the other hand, was enjoying the attention too much to care, not that anything that was being written down in his books was something he'd keep from the curious mind anyway. For now though, everyone wanted to know how he could speak in their heads, so he figured he'd might as well admit;

"Honestly I did not know if it would work. Until I tried it on the pale one I had my misgivings." rocks tumbled inside D'cund as a form of chuckling, "I do not know how it works, all I know is that I have been able to since I dreamed."

Naturally, those not leaning on him at the time did not get the explanation, instead they heard what sounded like a low frequency sine wave issue from the rock monster.

For those interested, Sigma and D'cund's wallyhoo are posted here.

Reina took her sketchbook with ease when Evan passed it back and tucked it by her side. When D'cund spoke up, Reina's eyes widened, but she didn't back off. "It's a lot different to hear you like this."

Isa sighed and sat on the top of Reina's desk. She saw Sigma shut his book but didn't bother to ask him why. If Reina hadn't wanted to talk about her history, then there were bound to be others who might have felt the same. Instead, she watched the crowd around D'cund react to his ability to speak to them. It was nice to be in the background for a little while.

It had been a good long while since the last assignment before the teacher stumbled in from outside. There was no telling how or when he'd disappeared from the room but apparently he had and he came back wearing an eyepatch which didn't quite cover the edges of an impressive bruise. It didn't seem to bother him though and he just wandered between the rows of desks to glance over each student's work.

"You should enjoy the field trip coming up soon," Mr. Vay spoke idly to Zane then tilted his head. "You mention your mother's death but don't explain it," he tapped a line on the boy's page. "That's the sort of event that should be elaborated upon. Be sure to give the how, the why, and the when of any major event like that." He paused, "You also mention a secret government project but don't say what. You should give me detail there and tell me why you like/dislike the things you do. Most of them are fairly obvious but baseballs and ICSS stand out rather unexplained. What is ICSS? I can tell you have a lot of good things going on here but I can't see them quite yet." Vay gave the boy a smiling nod then moved on.

He arched a brow at the timid elf and gave her a considering look half at her back then purred with a slightly lecherous grin, "Going to have to see that ink some day." He didn't let let that linger too long though before asking, "What's a Sigil user? I can gather from context it's some sort of magic but an explanation is needed to really understand the implications of it. Why would you fear you're a bad person? Seems an odd thing for such a nice girl to worry about. You mention your powers flaring up but don't say how. I'm fairly certain there's a story in there. I see you're on a quest, good luck with that, but you don't really say what for, why, how you got started." He paused, "Sam as Zane, you have a rich history - you're just not telling it." The teacher gave her an almost apologetic look then turned to the other artist.

"Again, I'm seeing a few hints of something but you're not doing enough with it. You were ignored but why? You developed some relationships but with whom and how did you let them down? Who was using magic for entertainment and rebellion? Rebellion against what problems? How was magic being used? What was the magic like? Why did it interest you? Did you ever see magic first hand? Were one of those you let down a magic user? What sort of encampments did you move to? What was your friend running from? How did you meet this friend? How did you meet your girlfriend? So many questions that should be answered," Vay tapped Evan's paper then turned to the next.

"Another anti-socialite," the teacher shook his head. "So why did the other children avoid you?" Vay asked idly and didn't really wait for an answer, "The fire is good. You've found a way to foreshadow future events but leave it possibly just an improbable coincidence. Everyone loves a bag of holding. Monsters probably would have a negative effect on grades so that's good and you've told us of a run in with some hellhounds and a few explosions but maybe a few more to round out your strange occurrences. It's 'Bunsen burner' by the way," he tapped a mistake with a sorry smile then went on. "The relationship with the boss's daughter is cute, not the wisest decision one could make but stories come from bad decisions," he flashed a wry grin then shook his head. "So why did you leave her there instead of take her with you?" Mr. Vay asked another question he didn't really wait for the answer to before turning to the rock monster and his twisted companion.

"Yeah. . . so many questions. Again I can tell you have a lot. A whole world or two." He grinned then looked out over the class as a whole, "You should all take a step back and look at your history with fresh eyes. Pretend like you don't know anything and answer the questions that come up when reading through without that wealth of background knowledge. When submitting to an actual RP you may want to trim a bit of the fat but here we're focused completely on character building so the more the better." Vay gave the class a nod then turned to slightly glare at the cowboy who'd passed out a long while ago and showed no signs of waking up.

With a shrug the teacher turned away again then walked up to perch on his desk at the front of the class. "If you've been paying attention to the OOC thread then you know what the next assignment is. You'd also know I skipped a few but I figure we can push on and if need be I'll explain the missing parts. So, please, ask questions if you want further explanation of anything but for now turn to page 21 and fill out the extended character profile. Now is the time to change anything about your character if you don't like it. Put all your assignments together and make them mesh, change where needed, rewrite for clarification and style, make this one hell of a profile as if you were submitting it to a super fancy awesome RP you really want to play." He gave the class a wry grin then finished up with, "Turn this one in to the Class Roster in the Character Development subforum and link it to your reply here. As always there will be extra credit for commenting on other student's work and general activity in the class."

"But just because we can hear your thoughts or speech or whatever doesn't mean that you can hear what goes on in our minds, right?" he probed the rock giant. Just to check, he screamed as loudly as he could within the silent confines of his skull the silliest thing he could think of the time: 'Your head is full of rocks!' Clearly, the boy was having trouble wrapping his head around D'cund's magical abilities.

Just then, his phone was beeping and with his free hand, he reached down to check it. "It says my profile is up... What the hell is that supposed to mean?" he wondered aloud.

Reina half smiled at Zane and said, "I suppose it'd mean your player did the work for you." She half-envied the phone and the fact that his player had done the work for him. Just as she was about to leave D'cund, she saw that Isa had been writing stuff down and then turn in the assignment. "I suppose my profile is up too."

Vay looked up from a mess of papers that looked to be plans for . . . something then arched a brow at the class. "Ok guys. I know it's summer and all but you've had nearly a month to get your assignments turned in. Next week we've got a field trip coming up so, please, have your assignments done before then."

"Well. . . it's next week," Mr. Vay stood up, brushing a bit of sand off his jeans and putting away the shining silvery chestpiece he'd been polishing. "As a reward for those of us that have made it this far I'll be taking whichever of you would like to go on down to the Colosseum for the Summer Games." The teacher paused to look over the class, "Now, I suggest if you've not turned in your final project you get that done before we get over there or I might just feed you to the lions." He flashed a wry little smile that wasn't completely joking.

"First though, there's one last little thing. We've decided to waive the final exam but the administration still requires y'all do the Teacher Evaluations," Vay sneered the last words a bit as he held up a large envelope. "Just fill out the forms then PM them to the Registrar (umbraja). Please be truthful and all that. Your answers won't affect your grade," the teacher said it a bit flatly as he pulled out a stack of forms and plopped them on the nearest student's desk, happened to be Zane's. "Pass em around," Mr. Vay gave the boy a nod before stepping toward the door. "I'll be waiting in the hall for anyone wants to go on the field trip. Your grades'll be posted soon so I suggest you finish the last assignment." He gave a warning look to the half of the class that hadn't finished their work then left them with their evaluations to wait outside the door.

"Oh... well..." Zane's eyebrows knotted together. He didn't quite get it -- was he supposed to have done the work himself? But Reina's drawing was doing the work for her, although maybe that didn't count because the elf was the one who created the drawing.

"Sure... I'll go..." All of these Summer Games and final projects was just breezing over his head, but any experience that could allow him to get a better grasp of this RPing business would be worth the effort.

"Am I... supposed to hand those out?" he inquired over the stack of papers that was on the desk he'd last occupied. But regardless of the answer, he was already on his way to the forms, taking one for himself and then handing the rest of Reina. "Here...

"I guess we're going to the hall now, huh? I think I'll go on the trip, what about you...?"
PostPosted: Wed Aug 08, 2012 9:22 pm

Reina was surprised by the trip, so she wasn't all that sure whether or not she wanted to go. Zane seemed ready to go, and that made her feel a little better about going.

When Zane asked her whether she was going, she shrugged. "I...I don't know. I guess it might be nice to go see these Games." She'd been getting a little bored with the classroom, and she never got the impression that she was going to get hurt. Mr. Vay wouldn't allow any of the students to get hurt visiting the Colosseum, right?

She had taken one of forms before passing the stack off to another person. "Should I go?" she asked Isa. The girl smiled and said, "I think you'd have some fun there, but you'll have to have it without me. I'm getting a wee bit tired, so would you mind letting me back into the sketchbook?" Reina frowned and looked sad, so Isa tugged lightly on a strand of the elf's hair. "Cheer up. You've got Zane to buddy up with, and if it really does get that bad, you can bring me out again." That said, Isa opened the sketchbook, and waited on Reina.

Reina sighed, and then watched Isa slowly fade from view and reappear in the sketchbook. "I guess I'll go out in the hall now," she said to Zane with a small grin.

D'cund heard nothing, and in fact, did nothing. Just sat there being as still as a stone statue can be when it's on a big rotating rock that's hurtling through space and several million miles an hour.

His and Sigma's profiles were up in the places one would expect them to be up in.

"I cannot hear your thoughts." D'cund said with his hum. Though whether or not anyone heard was up to the actions of the people around him.

He wasn't going anywhere, and as everyone moved away from him he slowly got up and moved towards a door that had appeared on the other side of the room. The door was marked "D'cund." though in a language nobody there would understand, and he was going to go through it.

Sigma, however, had no excuse but to be social.

Social Sigma.

"Fine, fine I'll go to the games."

And so he started moving after the other two.

Zane could feel the bloodrush to his cheeks at Isa's comment. Something about the way Isa trusted, or maybe it was some implicit means of entrusting Reina had him mildly flustered. Like he actually seemed suitable to take care of her or keep her company in spite of her reservations flattered him somewhat. As much as he'd hate to admit it, Reina's drawing was starting to grow on him. Now if only he could separate the idea of 'RPer' from the existance of that drawing.

"Hey wait, I'm coming too!" And together with D'cund's departure and Sigmund's compliance, Zane followed after Reina and out the room.

Evan looked up from the paper. He left himself get lost in a drawing, while Kyuu became busy with other things.
"My profile is done now as well. It isn't great, but it has to be at least a little step up," he said nervously. "The games sound fun. I hope Kyuu has time for those," he added mostly to himself. He took a sheet and passed the paper on.

As the students started to filter out into the hall they saw their teacher leaning against the door frame across from them and puffing on what looked to be a plastic cigarette. He gave them a slightly sheepish smile then put it away with a muttered, "Yeah, I know. Nasty habit," as he pushed himself off the door then looked the students over. "Guess that's all that's coming," he gave them a nod then held out a bottle of sunscreen. "Might be a bit sunny. Place isn't exactly air conditioned," he warned before turning away to lead them down the hall.

Just as it had been coming in (all those months ago) the hall was a plain off white that matched both ceiling and floor tiles. It looked unremarkable save for some of the words on the little plaques now tacked to the walls. The room they'd come from was marked 'Psychology' with Mr. Vay's name below it and the room across the hall was labeled 'History, Mr. Jikial' but down the hall a bit a sign pointed to another hall indicating that 'Magic' and 'Technology' labs could be found there.

Vay didn't take them down the fun hall though, just kept them walking the academic wing till they reached an exit which lead out into a different lush green lawn than the one they'd come in from. In the distance they could see the shining spire of the Library and to the other side was the abandoned clocktower looming over the far side of campus. Mostly though they saw construction going on all around. Little, faceless, gray skinned workers in denim overalls with no names on them scampered about fixing things up trying to get the place ready for the students. It was slow going and much was still left to be done but they were working hard.

The teacher didn't pay them any mind as he lead the students along a winding brick path toward a building they slightly recognized. It was the same columned porch they'd all come in on, the same tall, oak door that lead from the dilapidated shed in their own world. Vay walked up to it casually pulling a large ring of keys from his pocket then paused by the door to give the students a warm smile.

"Now, a bit of rules. Y'all play nice and don't get into trouble," he felt the need to give Zane a hard look for that but went on. "Stick close to each other and don't wander off alone. Pay attention to the door we come out of," he paused to pull a small key from his ring. "This'll only work on that door," Vay held the key to the nearest student then started pulling off another. "If you get separated and can't find me before the event is over just use this key on this door and it will bring you back here." He held a key out to each of them in turn then pulled a small stack of what looked like postcards from his jacket pocket. "These are your tickets. Do. Not. Lose. These." He warned with sincerity before handing them out to the student named on each ticket. The tickets were simple but elegant with gold filigree and a personalized invitation to take part in the grand spectacle that is the Summer Games.

With keys and tickets passed out, Mr. Vay then gave them a little nod and stepped up to the door, sliding in one of the many keys still left on his ring and turning the ornate knob. He glanced back to give the students a wry grin before pushing the door open to reveal a whole nuther world.

Bright light and warm sea air wafted through the door with the smell of sweat and strange spices. Sandy dirt paths traced between cloth tent stands selling their sundry wares in the shadow of a huge Colosseum - right Roman style. People from what looked like every possible place and time milled about the grounds, waiting for the Games to begin. Mr. Vay grinned with a nod as he stepped back to hold open the door.

"Looks like we're not late for once."
