Julie blinked, looking at Flef a long moment, then back at Esben. She pointed to the puff ball. "He doesn' look scared," she pointed out simply, before holding her hands out again, "'Cause! I wanna hold 'em! I won' hurt 'im!" She reeeaaaaallly wanted to know what that fluff felt like... and he looked cute! And friendly! And she was pretty sure he couldn't bite her! Not even Trey could object to this!
She blinked at Esben's claim, tilting her head and looking past him at his pokemon. She smiled at Teeg. "Yer ice one looks kinda scared! Is he okay?" she asked, moving to step past Esben, and reaching a hand out towards Isi. She looked back at Esben, though, as he boasted over his outfit, and turned her attention to poke literally at his claim. "They ain't covered," she clarified, scrunching up her nose. She didn't seem the least bit convinced, nor did she seem deterred from poking him. "You're a warrior?" No, instead she looked surprised at his claim. "Is that what you're dressed up as?" Even though he'd clearly denied her earlier guess, and they'd discussed the real purpose of his outfit at length. Apparently, she wasn't quite buying it, though. His arms were all naked! Or, his elbows were, anyway.
She nodded happily to his question about her brother, but looked around as he insisted she lead the way. "Ya wanna... not go to the exit?" she tried to guess, or perhaps suggest. She shrugged, look back to his pokemon, then turned, humming thoughtfully before confidently marching along, like a little soldier following orders-- 'cause that was what they were playing make believe in, now, right? He did say he was a soldier, after all! Warrior? .... Fighter!

"You don’t know that!" Esben snapped back, bristling at the claim. Sure, Flef was squirming and chirping and acting much the opposite of a creature that was scared for it’s life. Really, he just didn’t want to give up the fluffball. Flef was his! "Well you can’t! He’s mine and I don’t want you holding him!" Esben stubbornly retorted.
"Well he’s not! He’s just…ah…," What was it that Eskil told him in regards to Isi? He was… ‘sensitive’ or something? He hadn’t entirely been listening but eventually his cousin had convinced him that Isi was simply a quiet fighter, but very brave all the same! "He’s just the quiet type is all! He’s plannin’ on what to do if you try to pull something funny!" Esben sounded 100% positive in his claim, though Isi’s wincing and sulking further to hide behind Byr said quite the opposite. His face contorted again, and he seemed ready to slap Julie if she poked at his elbows again.
"So? Who cares! Neither are yours!" And to emphasize this, he gave her bare elbows a jab too. At the question of being a ‘warrior’ and dressed up, he made a confused face. What was she on about now. "Of course I’m dressed as a warrior! What are you dressed as?" He pounded a fist this his chest, trying to up the bravado of his stance. What, was she like Huey? Were warriors really that scarce around this place? Then again, he hadn’t seen many yet...
"Of course not! The dragon slayer went in the corn! Not out! We gotta go in the corn!" Duh! He wouldn’t find the individual otherwise. Without much hesitation he followed Julie as they started into the corn maze, nose crinkling some.
"Is your brother a warrior? What’er you doing out here alone anyways?"

Julie scrunched up her face in a look of sheer, childish skepticism at Esben's defiance. "But how come? He looks soft!" she persisted, holding her hands out again. She really was going to keep pushing this. She didn't seem to catch on (or maybe just didn't really prioritize) that he wasn't keen on sharing his pokemon. She was more interested in the pokemon itself, and how soft, and fluffy, and happy it looked! She bet it wanted to cuddle.
"Hmmm..." Though her expression wasn't as doubtful as she looked at Isi, she still didn't look quite convinced as she hummed thoughtfully and looked down at the pokemon. He didn' look like any sort of warrior she'd seen... Not that she'd seen many, though. She looked back at Esben, but only giggled when he poked her elbow, this time moving to poke his face, ready to dodge if he retaliated. She sobered up a bit, still grinning childishly, as he countered her query. "I'm dressed as a Julie!" she proclaimed, placing her hands proudly on her hips. It was what she was, after all! And she didn't need no costume to make her any better for it! At least, not this Halloween. She was too busy having fun with her brother and new pokemon, anyway.
Julie scrunched up her face in confusion. Was he sure he wasn't trying to get out of the corn, too? It was a maze, after all, and you got prizes at the end. She thought about saying something -- really thought, her lips pursed together in the effort of it and everything -- but blinked at the question. "Hehe! Nah, Torry's no warrior! He's just my big brother!" she giggled, before turning her marching into skipping, "And I'm not alone! I got sheep mareep, and mareep mareep, and Chico, and my big brother, who's waiting at the end of the maze!" she listed off, before pausing a moment. "... Huh, where is Chico, anyway...?"

Esben tried to find words to retort against Julie but couldn’t. She wasn’t wrong after all, Flef was incredibly fluffy and soft and… fun to hug and hold. Not that he’d admit that out loud, that wasn’t a thing a true warrior admitted. "Yeah… well," The young Viking shifted uncomfortably, looking down at Flef pleading for some help. The fluff ball stared back at his trainer, chirping and giving him a little nuzzle before looking in Julie’s direction and chirped again. The boy bristled and sighed, cheeks puffing out in agitation as he held Flef out reluctantly to Julie. "I suppose you can hold him for a little bit. But only ‘cause he wants too." He narrowed as serious a look as a nine year old could at her, "but if he starts crying you give him back!" Not that that was something that was going to happen. Flef chirped excitedly, wiggling in delight the moment he was transferred from one child to another.
Esben didn’t expect to get poked in the face, eyes wide in shock. This girl was basically insulting his warriorness with her actions! He wasn’t sure if he ought to be mad or respectful. Probably mad but that thought switched in confusion at her proclamation. "A … Julie? That’s not a thing!" He huffed. Never mind, she was totally out to make him mad. And to think he’d let Flef into her grasp! He ought to rip him away right then in defiance.
"Oh…," He frowned. Not a warrior? Well that explained so much; it was usually the elders who educated the children in his clan; family was usually the first. If he wasn’t a warrior than it clearly fell on Esben to teach her. Esben’s expression shifted thoughtfully as Julie named off her pokemon. He had no idea what a chico was (it sounded like food), but he knew mareep and the fact that she had more than one caught his attention. "Hmph, well that’s fine. But mareep are for farmer people! You want to be a farmer or a warrior?" He inquired, head tilting though at her final remark. "What’s a Chico? Is it like a Flef?"

Julie positively lit up at the permission, and quickly accepted Flef into her arms, snuggling him up to her face and rubbing her cheek against his fur with delight. He was so soft! She didn't even bother acknowledging Esben's demands, mostly because, of course she would, but also, she was way more focused on the joy of fluffing the Flef.
She finally recovered some at all the poking, and grinned toothily at his claim. "It is too!" she argued back, just as certainly, "It's what I am! Just as sure's you're a warrior!" That was a bit teasing, sort of, but mostly in hindsight. She said it with conviction, but it was about as believable as this little boy being a real warrior, too. Because Julies weren't a thing, and he was.... eight? Nine? ... Seven? He was her age.
She continued leading the way -- though admittedly, she wasn't paying much attention -- while they talked. "I'm not a farmer! I'm a warrior!" she declared proudly, thrusting her chin up into the air and straightening her stance as she walked, resuming more of a march. She looked back to him and shrugged. "You aren't a farmer just 'cause ya got mareeples, y'know," she added, before smiling, "He's my starter! He's a chikorita! Have ya ever seen one before?" she asked excitedly. She couldn't wait to show him off! .... Once she found him.

Esben folded his arms over his chest, still huffing at the loss of Flef. The fluff ball of course didn’t mind at all, chirping and wiggling excitedly in Julie’s arms as she snuggled and fluffed him, happy to meet a new friend!
"Huh," he murmured, a leery look focused on Julie. He had some sneaking suspicions on the honesty of her statement but couldn’t tell whether he ought to press more. She certainly didn’t seem to be taking him seriously! Which was shameful because he was absolutely the best warrior to come!
Esben finally broke into a grin at Julie’s claim that she was not a farmer but a warrior and took the stance of one. "Oh yeah?" He scoffed, flicking his thumb under his nose. "Yeah it does! At least in my clan it does! They usually don’t fight!" Who had time when the Mareep were avoiding getting eaten with attacks and what not? He didn’t expect Julie to know that though, she didn’t seem to know the warrior life even if she claimed to be one. "But if you are a warrior then you gotta prove it! Do you have a war cry?" he made a face again. "A.. starter?" What in the world were these things? More nonsense clearly, just like what he’d been told before with Huey and such. Still he shook his head. "I don’t think so… what’s it look like?"

Thrilled at the adorable fluff ball in her arms, Julie was able to easily just smile off Esben and all his looks and suspicions. Likely accurate suspicions, that she would not confirm, at all. She did look up, though, at his apparent skepticism of her being a WARRIOR, grinning all the same, even through his bravado. He was funny! She couldn't tell if he really thought he was a warrior or not, but she didn't really care! Playing warriors sounded fun, and she wanted to try it, especially if Esben was a true professional! A true, nine-year-old professional warrior.
"Your mareeps don' fight?" she asked with a true, open mouthed look of surprise. She was sincere in this startling development-- it wasn't like hers had battled that much, either, but she'd seen plenty of sheep pokemon throw their static at opponents to defend themselves or shoo off trespassers. And heck, a lot of the battles she'd had, had been won by her own little sheep mareep.
She scrunched up her face and tilted her head to the side at the question, though. "A war cry? Nuh... I don' think so. Do you?" she asked curiously, adjusting Flef in her arms as she continued walking. She looked up in thought as she tried to, in addition, think of how to describe a chikorita, but before she could, the corn peeled away, and they found themselves at the exit. She blinked a bit, looking up at Torin, who was standing there, talking to a woman. "Torry, is Chico with you?" she asked, holding Flef carefully in her arms. After a thoughtful pause, she added, "'N have you seen a... a dragon slayer come by?"
Torin looked over, brow furrowing in obvious confusion at Julie's just now appearance, and the addition of another child. "No, uh... I think he went back looking for you," he explained, frowning. He looked Esben over, looking for signs of trouble, before looking back to Julie. "Are you going back in?" His gaze moved to the pokemon she had still with her, and then back to her as she nodded. "Uh huh! If Chico went in I wanna find him!" she decided, and before Torin could point out that waiting out here would likely yield the same result, she added, "And we got a Sayer to find!" And with that, shifted her grip on Flef, and grabbed Esben's hand to drag him around and back into the entrance of the corn maze.

"Nuh uh! Why would they?" Esben commented, his head tilting to the side as he considered the question more. "… At least I don’t think they did. Not usually," admittedly he hadn’t seen a lot of battles in his life but he felt confident that the herds of Mareep were not for the fighting.
Esben gave a gasp of shock. "You don’t have a war cry?!" He practically shouted, clearly shook by this fact. "You can’t be a warrior without a war cry!" What was wrong with these people! His inquiries were cut short for the time being as Julie rushed out of the maze to confront a blonde man. Esben frowned, staring back at the man with a dubious look. It didn’t last long though before Julie was grabbing his hand and dragging him back into the corn maze. He might’ve snapped about it if she hadn’t pointed out that they would be finding the dragon slayer.
"Oh!" Quickly he regained his composure, tugging his hand free from Julie a bit red in the face at being surprised and then drug around so foolishly. Warriors didn’t get drug around by a potentially non-warrior. Swiping his hands on his tunic Esben huffed and folded his arms across his chest. "Do you think yer Chico went looking for the dragon slayer?" He still wanted to find the man and Julie sounded rather adamant that they could find him and this Chico. Flawless child logic suggested to him that this Chico might be searching as well. Maybe there was something to Julie after all. "Oh! And we gotta figure you’re your war cry! We can’t meet the dragon slayer without one!"

Julie gave an exaggerated shrug. "I 'unno, to protect themselves? 'N some pokemons like battlin'!" she pointed out in return. She blinked, hugging Flef, a little startled at Esben's great disbelief at her lack of a warrior cry. "But you didn' say whether you had one!" she pointed out in defense, only detouring from this conversation due to their escape from the maze. Unintentional escape, at that, given they hadn't found any of the things they needed to.
After dragging Esben back into the corn maze, she dropped her hand, not really bothered by Esben's forceful removal from her grip. She just took advantage of it to resume cuddling Flef again, looking back to the other boy with round eyes. "I dunno... Maybe! He mighta seen him and followed outta curiosity or somethin'," she admitted, though then again, she didn't actually know Chico well enough to know if that was a real possibility. It wasn't something she was really concerned with, though. He was tough! And they'd definitely find him. And then maybe Esben's slayer person.
She continued walking, looking curiously back to Esben. "What's your war cry?" she countered back curiously, "I can't have one if I don' know what it's s'posed to sound like! You should show me yours!" She grinned toothily, both in playfulness (in case he didn't have one) and in genuine excitement (in case he did).

Esben thought more on the claim; he supposed that was a thing. But the flock didn’t need to fight! They had him and his clan to protect them instead! Right? He wasn’t so sure now and the uncertainty made him a bit sour. Flef of course, simply chirped and snuggled with Julie, though occasionally glancing out and about, at the pokemon and the trainers and even the corn. He wasn’t sure why they were going back into the field of yellow.
"Huh…," Esben rubbed his chin and then a grin sprouted as Julie inquired about his war cry. "Of course I do! I’m a warrior and all warriors have them!" He announced with a matter-of-fact tone. And just to prove it he quickly maneuvered to in front of Julie to face her. He stood as tall as he could, hands on his hips as the most earnest expression took over his features.
"I am Esben! A SLAYER OF DRAGONS!" He shouted loud and proudly, like a child would when announcing some accomplishment that seemed like it would move the world. Immediately he thrusted a fist up in the air triumphantly. "OO DAH!" Esben held the pose for a moment longer before relaxing, still beaming in pride. "See? I told ya! Every warrior has a warrior cry!" His arms folded over his chest, Flef chirping in delight and the remainder of his team (or at least Byr and Isi) followed suit in some semi-delight. Teeg was staring in confusion, wondering why her trainer was shouting at Julie. What was she missing here?

Chico was, surprise surprise, not, in fact, searching for the dragon slayer. In fact, he was searching for his trainer, just as she was looking for him, but all he managed to do was make his way out of the maze again. This time, though, he was tangled in tickets, embarrassed, flustered, worried, and a bit irritated at all this difficulty. Thankfully, Torin was still talking just outside the exit, and though he seemed emotionally invested in this discussion of his own, getting angry at the woman he was talking to, he broke long enough to notice the chikorita, and stride over. "Julie went back in to find you. Go get her, I need to talk to her," he stated, leaning down to carefully help untangle the pokemon, and pocket the tickets, "I'll take care of the prize, alright? Just hurry up." Chico frowned up at him, hesitated, then ran back around, irritated, but determined to find his trainer, this time.

Julie looked at Esben, not so much dubious, as thoughtful on his claim. She came to a stop as he moved around to stand and face her, head tilted to her side as she adjusted Flef up in her arms, observing his pose and proclamation. She scrunched up her face a bit. "That's it?" she asked at the end of it, not quite looking as impressed as she maybe ought to have, "Just Slayer of Dragons? What about Esbon the Bold, Slayer of Dragons, Wager of Wars! Or or! Or Esben the Brave, the Valiant, the Warrior of Old, Slayer of Dragons, Defender of his Village and ManKind! Or--" She fell silent in thought. Torin had read her way too many kids books... and maybe her parents had let her watch a few too many movies...
She put a finger to her lips and resumed walking with him. "So how d'you decide on your warrior cry? D'you get it from your family, or you're acomp... accompanishments?" she asked, scrunching up her face as she tried to remember the word. She was about 265% certain she hadn't quite said that right, but whatever! It was close enough. She dropped her hand and looked to Esben as if that brought to mind another question. "Have ya ever slayed a dragon afore?"

Esben faltered in shock at the lack luster response from Julie. That wasn’t the response he was expecting, and his face grew red in agitation as she named off some (admittedly) better names to add to his cry. Valiant? Brave? He wasn’t old though so that wouldn’t work. He straightened up and stomped a foot, stumbling over his words as he tried to speak. "Well yeah! That’s what we do in my clan!" Esben huffed, cheeks puffing just a bit. "I mean you have to earn those titles and… and… that’s way too long! The dragons’ll have eaten you before you get to finish!" That was it! Perfectly logical and totally enough of a cover for the lackluster remarks.
"How do you know so much on warriors anyways?" He grumbled, resuming their walk through the corn field, head tilting some as he took in her questions. "Uh… I don’t know! I made it up, Eskil say’s your cry should be about you! To scare the enemies!" A fist pounding to his chest, he grinned but then faltered again at the question. These were some sour points that young Julie was hitting. "No… not yet! But I will!" He announced, immediately gesturing to the axe on his back. "I’ve been training every day and watching and learning and all the things you have to do! I could crush a dragon any time!" Despite the start, he sounded confident in his claim. "You just gotta be smarter than them is all! Dragons are dumb. I can show you how to fight in case you ever meet one!"

[ "Oh, you e-evolve?" ] Gosh, this was a heavy mix of emotions he felt at that. Wonder and excitement yes, especially since none of the dunsparce could evolve. But because of that, he also felt a bit sad. After all, knowing he would never get big and strong, like some other pokemon? Pokemon like Onix didn't mind, since they started out so big... except apparently even they could evolve! He tried to push whatever he was feeling out of mind. [ "That would be really cool. It... probably wasn't a good thing for his new friend Christian to be saying the same things his old teammates did. s**t, possibly-maybe stealing a pokemon was way too easy, even when he was trying not to. Now he was going to be sure they checked that the totodile was good to take, and he pointedly ignored nagging voice that it'd be so much easier to just not say anything and walk out.

Actually, if he really thought about it, Jun had been rather easy to 'catch'. Except instead of using food like you would with a pokemon, Christian used some weird social-fu to have Jun feeding him instead.
