Kairatos jerked as though he might actually take a swing at the medic trying to retrieve Chrysocolla, eyes widening as he openly and rapidly tried to decide if the new arrival was a threat. Schorl had sounded a retreat, and he had no idea if they'd won or lost, only that he should have hit Cinnabar harder. If they'd lost because he'd lost their captives... if Schorl had succeeded in a transparent plan to draw more to them in the thin hope that the negaverse would EVER keep their word....

And then Meteora's tone hit him like a lightning bolt, and he shook himself, blinking and panting heavily, hands shaking slightly in this moment in which he was actually still.

"There's always going to be blood on my hands... because of Metallia." He growled, voice wavering, but firm and angry. "But I'm not CASTOR either. Go lick your wounds."

starseeds in the palm of his hand, fluttering and alive like humming birds....Zinkenite talking about disposing of the bodies..

He felt nauseous in the wake of it all. Somehow unsure if he should be proud or ashamed.

He wanted to wrap his arms around Meteora, but she was all white and clean and they'd been going to hurt her because that was what they did. They lured you in and talked you into drinking their poison our they held you down and poured it into you, and she was everything he had that was beautiful and he didn't dare when he was all blood and pain and harm.

"Met..."

Erytheia of Cosmos

Erytheia should have been watching more than just the door. Negaverse agents had magic and that magic included teleportation.

"You're in the way."

Thwack.

The page was on the floor before be could process the words. He knew he had blacked out, but he didn't know how long. He could hear - feel - others in the room now and this brought him back to the light.

He opened his eyes.

Scholomance's body was still there laying right beside him!

The green-clad blonde general - the one that hit him - hadn't managed to take it from him and it looked like he had quite a few senshi and knights to thank for that.

Now he was laying next to the body. Scholomance was still as lifeless as ever. Had Hver succeeded in gaining the starseed back?

Erytheia did not have time to wonder if the knight of Cosmos had been successful. The body was still here and he had promised her he would do whatever was neccesary to protect the starseed's host.

Faithfully, he started looked for any shelter that could be had amidst the now close-range battlefield.

Lieutenant Reinerite

Reinerite had nodded in acknowledgement at the other Lieutenant, but had paused to as she spotted her snow globe and had walked over to pick it up before turning and stepping round with the intention of doing just that.

That pause had been just enough time for a dark-haired senshi to go barrelling into the blond lieutenant and a second dark-haired senshi in red and white to knock into her causing her to once again drop the snow globe.

It hadn't been enough to hurt and Reinerite certainly didn't consider herself out, instead summoning her snow globe back to her hand as she picked herself up.

The other Lieutenant looked to have taken the harder hit and Reinerite had half-started to cross the distance between them, but then he picked himself back up and so she had turned her attention back to the red-haired Page...

Because she had a plan and that plan was to end this and Reinerite had decided that she was going to end this and she was going to do by virtue of smashing her reclaimed snow globe atop of the Page's head.

She wasn't expecting the fighting to suddenly explode or the field of white flowers that suddenly sprung up to surround her...

The snow globe dropped from suddenly nerveless fingers as a wave of futility - of sheer hopelessness of everything suddenly assailed her.

The snow globe tumbled, causing flurries of fake snow to cascade down about the snowman and christmas tree as it tumbled and rolled and tumbled to roll only to come to a gentle halt against a battered and broken figure.

Against Eleonor Williams' battered and broken figure.

Reinerite sunk to her knees suddenly uncaring of the fight that continued to rage about the building, of the blond Lieutenant that had gone to help a battered corrupted eternal that under other circumstances might have seemed familiar.

Instead grey eyes stared at blankly shattered glasses and blue curls that were so similar to her own as Reinerite stared at her older sister and screamed.

She stood completely still, torn between attacking Schorl (and then Cinnabar) and throwing herself in front of Scholomance that Andronicus spent several long minutes locked in confusion as to what to even do.

Then someone shouted about his starseed and his body and she saw a poor Cosmos trying to pull Scholomance's unconscious body out of the way. Whelp. There. Do that. Go Do that Andronicus and stop being a t**t.

"Let me help!" the knight rushed over, still added by her aspect of Uranus, and grabbed Scholo by the legs. "Let's get him out of here!"

Stores often made use of open floorplans and maximized space to display merchandise rather than conceal it. However, a small door opposite the vacated counter promised a modicum of storage space for anyone in need of concealment. Doing so at least obscures the body from the surrounding members, but with Schörl already in sight line of Scholomance's body, attempting to hide the unconscious knight offers no ostensible advantage. Dragging the body into the storage area will prevent outside Negaverse members from discerning the location immediately, unless informed by Schörl. (This option comes with no added bonuses.)

Keyite

Whatever triumph the lieutenant had felt at making the neon nightmare yelp in pain and release him was lost almost immediately as that tentacled wretch of an eternal senshi gave him a run-by-maiming that sent him to his knees. Had she cracked his ribs further? What the hell was that!? I can't ******** breathe--

Around him was noise and the General calling for 'retreat', which he would have loved to do, save that he found himself unable to concentrate enough on teleporting because some blue-haired cosplay stripper cast and the effect hit almost as hard as Scylla's damned drive-by.

Trigger Warning: Animal Death
He is young and standing next to a small grave, a standard poodle that once had been shining black but was now mottled with age lay still at his feet. In his hands, a Darne Model R15 20 gauge shotgun is in his hands. His thin shoulder still aches from the recoil that nearly dislocated his shoulder.

"I'm so sorry." Some feet away lies the corpse of the boar that killed his beloved pet. His father stands over it, shaking his head. Later he will find that it was rabid and his beloved companion of 10 years had been unlucky, but now all he feels is grief.

Still bleeding, still of an age in reality, Keyite reaches to touch the bloody, curling fur and the mirage dissipates around him, though the gut-punch he'd felt as a boy continued on.

I can't stay here. It does no good. Staying will be the end of everything. Several steadying breaths taken hard through his ruined face, he managed to get up and get the hell out of dodge like the Eldritch Hell Mistress had commanded.

Schörl, General

Scattering auras, and others arriving. Magical effects came off. But the order was in effect and with enough force of circumstances visible around them all to be heeded. None were being left behind. So it goes.

In a meeting between foes where neither party intended to adhere to the decencies or parlay, the Negaverse's estimates of the necessities for ambush was the the lesser. It had been inadequate. And too sparsely placed. It was not a mistake to repeat.

At a further thought, uninterested in the pouring senshi and knights to the empty knight's side, the green general vanished.

Hvergelmir Knight of the Cosmos

There was a moment -- a long, long second -- in which Hvergelmir wondered what Schörl would do, outnumbered so heavily. But before she could turn over all the options in her head, the General was gone -- and with her, the last obstacle to getting to Scholomance's body.

Hvergelmir stepped forward, sparing a hand to Erytheia's shoulder as she passed, fingers lightly brushing. "You are a credit to your Wonder," she told Erytheia as she knelt down by Scholomance's body to begin drawing his head and shoulders upward to rest in her lap. "And to the cosmos. Well done."

This Cosmos page had gotten Scholomance here safely. And the person before him, and the person before her, and the next. This had not been an easy victory, but a bare one -- if Scholomance lived, the people here had saved him by the skin of their teeth. (And all while Hvergelmir had done practically nothing, a miserable voice inside her head reminded her. What a cheap lie it seemed, in some ways, for her to kneel among them to deliver this particular benediction as though it was her accomplishment, and not something the rest of them had all paid for in blood. Her entreaties and her bravado had all been worth nothing in the end, as so many people had always said they would be. Her words had fallen on deaf ears.)

Scholomance still felt warm in her arms. Still seemed to be hanging onto life. He looked soft and untroubled and vulnerable in that moment, laying there in her lap -- and she wondered if his body knew, somehow, that his starseed was near again, and nearly home where it belonged.

Let this be his, she thought. Please don't let us have been wrong.

Hvergelmir slipped a hand to where she'd stowed the starseed before, drawing it free, safely unharmed. It came to a slight float over her outstretched palm.

"Character is who you are when it costs you," she addressed the room at large, her voice soft, like Scholomance was only sleeping and she might wake him with too sudden a noise. Hvergelmir extended her outstretched hand over his chest, lowering it slowly, easing. "You showed some of the best of yourselves today." She glanced up at the others only briefly, offering them a tired smile. A stray hair fell foward, across her face.

"Now cross your fingers, and let's hope that this works."

Hvergelmir drew her hand out of the way and let the starseed complete its descent, slow and weightless, drawn less by gravity now and more by what seemed to be the magnetism of a certain spiritual or magical homecoming.

She held her breath and waited.

Eternal Scylla

Gasping, lungs shaking, limbs shaking, she pushed into the room and towards that goal. Magic could counter exhaustion only so far, and between the anxiety, the fierce combat, and the desperate race to catch the youma, she felt as though her body was on fire. She saw the General leave as she moved unerringly forward, flinging herself down near the Cosmos page and the Uranus knight trying to move him, dropping to all fours, heedless of the mess she made on the floor.

Ice.

She would not be proud of her panicked desperation later, as she looked at the white-haired knight, reaching out to press a hand to Ice's face, to press a copper-tipped weft of hair out of the way, like it being on his face could somehow impact- God, what if this was the wrong starseed, what if he was dying here, what if-

The knight, Hver (Scylla knew of her, even if they had never interacted. She was hard to miss, and she had been at Celsus together) was speaking to the people who had protected him; and pale-faced, Scylla gave Andronicus and Erytheia wan smiles, eyes searching for the others who had helped so desperately. Catching faces of those who had come to her distress call and fought with them, when this- she and Scholomance had planned this so poorly- there had been more allies they could have called on, they could have-

Her inhaled breath was sharp and ragged, and she watched the woman pull Ice's head into her lap. Character is who you are when it costs you, she told them all, and Scylla sucked in another breath. "And thank you," she added breathlessly, as loud as she could manage with heaving lungs. "I want- I'm the one who sent out the distress call. All of you who came. You saved my life, and I'm sure that-" she turned bright eyes on Hvergelmir, "I'm praying we have all saved his too. I won't forget what any of you have done. If you need me- If you-" her eyes sought out Phact, and she stared at her as she said, "Maybe get some names, or? Leave them with- Please?"

She needed to send thank you notes, or gift baskets or some s**t.

But later. Now the starseed was drifting into Isaiah's chest (still Scholomance, still Scholomance) and she lifted his hand to her lips with her blood-streaked fingers, pressing her lips to it, watching, Waiting. Praying. He was her friend, and she'd almost killed him. There would be time for remorse if he lived. If this worked.

Please.

Ptolemaeus, DMS of Change

Though sorrow and despair still dug their claws into him and did their very best to weigh him down, Ptolemaeus noticed something was happening when some of the Negaverse's chaotic signatures began to disappear from the immediate area. He put aside his emotions, as he was well-practiced at doing, and looked over at where the Order beings had begun to crowd around the Saturn Knight's body.

They had his starseed, the Dark Mirror gradually realized. The Negaverse agents must have been departing because the battle had been won, and not by them. After all their improvised teamwork and tremendous efforts, Order senshi and knights had successfully managed to drag Scholomance free from their enemy's clutches. Ptolemaeus watched as if an impartial spectator, keeping his distance with no particular expression on his face. There was still the matter of if Scholomance would wake once they tried to replace his starseed. It was still much too early to be celebrating, it seemed.

The scream that pierced the air briefly drew Ptolemaeus' attention, and he realized that he and Keyite hadn't been the only ones to have been affected by the eternal senshi's attack from earlier. Normally he would have gone to check on them, but as someone still suffering from the effects himself, what could he do? It just seemed so pointless. It sucked being unable to instigate change, having to wait for it to happen on its own instead.

Super Sailor Phact

Phact had remained by the door for a long moment, out of the way of the crowd rushing through, but she had shifted when she had heard the call of an attack, looked down and watched a field of flowers appear around her feet. Turning, she could see the agents of chaos fall to its effects but she slowly moved from it. Her eyes gazing back at Hver and Scylla as they both moved over to the body.

Scholomance. So this was him.

Silently, the senshi of doves walked towards the senshi of kraken and put her hand out onto the woman's shoulder. "It's going to be alright." Phact whispered. She was not Kastra but she hoped some of her Court member's calmness rubbed off after all this time. "You did everything you could. Now...it's up to him."

Phact's eyes took in the man before them. It was clear to her that he had been through the darkness before. The question in her mind was...which life had cost him. But she shook it from her thoughts as she gave Scylla's shoulder another squeeze. There were numerous questions on the senshi's mind. Who was this knight? Why had he been targeted? Why had so many agents been here in the first place? But for now, she silenced her thoughts and watched.

This was not the time.

Scholomance Knight of Saturn

Cinnabar hurdled toward them and Schörl's grip tightened —
How trite —

The battered knight started heavily, his hand jerking out of Scylla's in the dregs of an urge to defend himself. Reality returned with wracking pain, and his gaze reeled to focus. The storefront's collapsing ceiling hung overhead. No scales, no generals, no brandished weapons. A familiar luminous Cosmos knight loomed over him. Slowly he became aware that he breathed too quickly for his lack of heavy movement, yet he felt breathless and desperate.

Scholomance wasn't outside anymore, he knew this. Here, surrounded by knights and senshi, he struggled to reassemble the jagged disconnect between one thought and the next.

Cinnabar hurdled toward them and Schörl's grip tightened. He woke in a dilapidated storefront on Hvergelmir's lap, Scylla beside him and the knight from before hear his legs. Some faces he failed to recognize. Some he recognized instantly. Hy-Brasil stood near. Ptolemaeus sat ouside. His heart beat incessantly with panic, with residual recognition for the danger he was facing - had faced. His starseed laced pain through his bones, or his magic did; he couldn't tell the difference anymore. The price of his folly here weighed heavily in its physical toll. Night streamed through the broken windows, accompanied by winter chill - a reminder that he existed not in the second before but the minutes, hours after.

Yet everyone around him felt abhorrent. Suspicion seized him them and Scholomance sat up abruptly, perhaps too abruptly for the aches lacing his body, and gazed down at himself to find his uniform - however tacky, however distasteful - unchanged. The myriad auras of the Negaverse forming a choking smoke over the battlefield dissipated somewhat, and still continued their departures while his reeling adrenaline gave way.

Momentarily he felt like a split brain patient, with his mind urging him to comply with action yet his body - and starseed - saw otherwise. His hand touched the ground as the landscape swayed. His mouth worked to remember how to speak. Reactions and thoughts began to clarify themselves. Tell me someone killed her, he wanted to say. Tell me she's dead. But no one looked the part of a murderer here, no one wore the remorse of taking a life. No body lay absent uniform beside him. He managed a sardonic smile beneath the mask. Because it doesn't matter that I lived so long as they're both dead, is that it now?

"Let's not do that again," he voiced gently. Trying for projection pained him, as if his starseed spread its aches through every cell of his body. "You're all… Staring at me like I should be dead, so I'm going to guess…" That I should be regaling the lot of you with tales from beyond the grave. "That you all have something to do wiith my not being dead or corrupted about now. So thanks, for what it's worth." His head ached terribly and his body begged to sleep for three to six weeks before attempting any other forays into stupidity, like challenging the Negaverse. And Scholomance doubted that Schörl and Cinnabar would rest with such a dismal conclusion on their end. But they were gone, and here he sat among the assortment of Order that he earlier deemed not enemy, but not ally.

Neutrality was a fickle precarity, after all.

Asking for an explanation of the facts needed to wait. Scylla looked like she dragged herself through a sea of kitchen knives to get to him, the feathered white senshi looked much the same, as did Hy-Brasil, and the rest looked like they crawled through a few chimneys to get there. The page nearest him looked disheveled and battered. Only Hvergelmir looked mostly untouched, though even she bore some ash on her otherwise immaculate dress. His own uniform remained stained with enough muck to suggest a trawling through some Louisiana marshes. In a phrase, the lot of them looked like s**t, and probably felt no better. Certainly he didn't.

Hy-Brasil, Squire of Earth
HP:145/200
ATTK: 5
DEF: 5
Effects: Aspect active: Accuracy can’t be lowered
DMG: 0

Whatever had happened in the retrieval of Scholomance’s starseed seemed to, somehow, affect the green General. It wasn’t long after the woman put out the call to retreat that she herself vanished, crawling back to Metalia. Whatever, it didn’t matter. As much as Hy-Brasil wished she could have made sure that Schorl never saw another day again, she had more important things to take care of. Much more important.

Hver had moved to return the starseed that she had so skillfully hidden. A part of Hy, needing a bit of laughter, could only imagine what Isaiah would say if he knew his starseed had been hidden in such a soft and safe spot. For a split second a smile crept onto her face as Hver pulled Scholomance’s head onto her lap. The white-haired knight was so careful and gentle with Scholomance. There was just concern and hope written on her face as she shared words of encouragement to everyone.

But before Hy-Brasil could even move herself to Isaiah’s side, Scylla was there and her motions and interactions as she knelt beside him were indicating more than a friendship between the two. Hy froze in her spot. A sudden shot of jealousy flared up within her as this woman took Scholomance’s hand and pressed it to her lips. As she looked longingly at him for any sign of life. Gwen shouldn’t be surprised. She was well aware of Isaiah’s personal interests. They had a long conversation about it, and she had even agreed to opening the relationship. It had been what was best for him. After all, he had tried to be monogamous, but it had made him absolutely miserable. Up until now, she’d not interacted with anyone whom he was intimate with. Sure,s he knew it was happening but seeing it was all that much harder. The jealousy was not something that was going to go away easily.

But she had promised.

As much as she had wanted to tell Scylla off or push her to the side, Gwen chose not to. What mattered right this moment was that Scholomance woke up. These jealous fits of hers would mean nothing if he didn’t and…. God, she did not want to think about that. Having seen his starseed ripped from his body had nearly broken her and the thought he may not wake…

Nope, she couldn’t think that. Not now.

But it didn’t stop the tears from slowly sliding down her cheeks as she waited, watching.

And then he move in a rush. Moved to defend himself from an enemy that was no longer there before his face depicted the pain, drain and aches he must feel from his near death experience. A hiccup sob of happiness escaped the squire as she smiled at Scholomance. “Let’s not.” She agreed full heartidly. “I don’t think my heart could handle that again. I thought….” She stopped those words. They didn’t matter now. He was fine and well. She waved off her mid-sentence stop. “You know what, it doesn’t matter. I am just...so, happy you’re alright.”

She walked over to him and offered him a hand. “Can you stand? I doubt you want to spend the entire night on the floor of the Circle K.” She smiled, teasingly at him. All the while she was very well aware of Scylla right there.

Lieutenant Tremolite

It was good to know that appealing to his enemies' compassion or humanity was a card that he could choose to play depending on the situation and who he was dealing with. Looking first at Kairatos then at Meteora, Tremolite allowed himself to relax a little when it was apparent that neither of them had any intent of coming over to throw punches at him. Filing away that information for now, Tremolite held onto Chrysocolla even as the corrupt eternal senshi struggled against the effect of the sedative in his arms, mumbling something about needing to go somewhere.

Nope. Sorry. You're staying put where you are until he gets you somewhere safe enough to properly assess your injuries.

"Much appreciated..."

It thankfully didn't take long for Chrysocolla to be knocked out entirely from the drug-induced slumber, allowing him to carefully transfer her onto his back only to have his attention drawn to Reinerite who suddenly appeared glassy-eyed and started screaming. A mental breakdown from the battle itself? Or something that only she could see as a result of something such as the magic the senshi wielded?

Resisting the temptation to knock Reinerite out as well to spare her from whatever ordeal she was going through at the moment simply because he couldn't carry two unconscious people at the same time all by himself, Tremolite opted for the next best option at hand which was to stretch a hand out, clamp it on her forearm and tug her along to leave the area and the many Order signatures behind.
