She’d been more than happy to join everyone, to help them. They were moving, they were going to pick up this secret weapon and they were going to survive. So she was there when it began. Gunfire, grenades, panic. She heard the call to regroup, and she intended to follow it.
Winnifred Opal would never be certain of what happened. There was too much going on. An explosion blocked out all of the sound, replacing it all with a ringing. The gunfire came back first, followed by screams. It all sounded so far away. She turned, she stepped, and there was pain. More gunfire, another explosion, and Winnifred Opal was picking herself up off of the ground. Except her leg no long held her. There was blood and pain, and together with the strange noise and chaos it was all kind of like a dream.
She really didn’t remember much after that, but she was more than grateful that her only real injury was a wounded leg. She’d need a crutch for a while, but there others with worse injuries. And her hearing seemed fine, if still a little ringy.
Winnifred Opal sighed. They hadn’t died yet. The world had ended but they were still alive. And they had something of a chance now. More than a chance. They just had to go out there and succeed. “Oh, I wish I weren’t limping around.”

Cerise might have had some measure of confidence before the zombie apocalypse in herself, in her dealings with other people, in the demeanor she presented to the rest of the world, but she was by no means brave. She would do things right up until an element of true and actual danger presented itself and then dismiss it as something she didn't really need to do, did she? She was not a thrill seeker, or a daredevil, or anyone who particularly cared for wild adventures. She majored in art history, for ******** sake; nothing too crazy ever happened within the quiet serenity of a museum.
So when explosions had started happening and people had started dying, she ran. She wasn't proud of her cowardice, but she didn't particularly want to die today, either, and since her combat skills amounted to cutting words and a sharp tongue, she figured she didn't really have very many options left to her.
Unfortunately, it didn't seem to matter. She felt something strike her in the temple, right below her hairline, and while the pain was sharp and bright and startling, it frightened her less than the blood that immediately began to flow from her wound. She managed to make it to relative safety before she started wobbling from blood loss. The world tilted beneath her feet and she leaned against the wall for balance.
I'll just rest here a minute, she thought to herself before she lost consciousness.

October could hardly hear what the others were saying, but at least they looked somewhat put together - maybe. Alex was wheezing a bit, Brie was looking worried, and the good doctor himself was attempting to tend to their wounds without too much trouble. Except for maybe the arm thing.
October's head was still ringing.
"Sorry," said October, still too loud, wincing a little. Everything was coming out watery and unpleasant, confusion settling into his bones. He knew, just on instinct, that something had been ruptured up inside of his head or his ear, the muffled, muted sounds a clear indication of that.
"Sorry, I can't - you guys look like s**t - but - let's get out of here, okay?"
