Vince could feel his ears growing red as Olivia laughed at his inability to use technology. He realized it wasn't common for his generation to be so unfamiliar with it, but Vince had always been a older soul in a young body. Nevertheless, he nodded as Olivia offered to show him how to block contacts in case he changed his mind. "It would certainly be useful, and tempting, information..." Vince agreed.

When the twins returned, a plan of action was formed for their next steps, but it was clear, to Olivia at least, that Vince wasn't exactly thrilled with the twins continuing to overstay their welcome. "If my dissatisfaction is as obvious as you imply it to be, I don't understand how they haven't picked up on it and taken a cue." Vince grumbled, but then blinked and appeared to look guilty. "Ah... Sorry, I shouldn't wish for such things..." Vince sighed. "It's not.... Them, in particular. Well, that is not entirely true. I am still not happy about the girl, Lia, and her treatment of Xiu Feng. However, even if that were not the case, I have never been good with crowds and strangers. Particularly being forced to interact with them." He suggested irritably, running a hand through his hair. "When I'm just with one person, it's not as bad because I can direct all of my attention on them, but three people at once feels... Overwhelming..." That was another half truth. Vince could stand large groups he was familiar with, like his family. It was the fact that these two were strangers, and instinct told him to start losing people when numbers started to be against his favor. The fact that the two were just asserting themselves into his and Olivia's activities made him uncomfortable and suspicious as well. It was too much to keep track of, harder to protect himself and Olivia if they happened to turn on them. Plus, there really was only so much amicable socialization Vince could take.

As they entered the center, Olivia was reunited with her elgyem unexpectedly, but they soon had their room and could start making progress towards primping themselves for the contest hall. "Hm?" Vince hummed, confused by Olivia's teasing remark at first. "Oh.... Yes, I suppose I could have asked for separate rooms. I just didn't consider it." He mused. Perhaps he'd just gotten used to sharing a room at this point... He didn't really feel like going back and asking now though. They were already here, it wasn't like they hadn't shared a room before, neither seemed to mind terribly, and they were traveling together so it seemed somewhat selfish to get separate rooms and take one that another trainer could have had.

Vince allowed Olivia to have the shower first, remaining in their room with his pokemon and sitting on the bed. Xiu Feng jumping up onto the mattress next to him while Li Yu hung herself on Huang Chen's long tail. She seemed fascinated by how the charmeleon's tail was now about as long as she was. Huang Chen was amused at least, obliging Li Yu by swinging her back and forth. It wasn't long before Olivia emerged again, accessories now adorning her pink tresses. "Oh... You look nice." Vince complimented. He'd never seen her wearing anything in her hair. He couldn't sit and gawk though, he needed to get showered himself. "Make sure they don't get into any trouble." Vince suggested teasingly, nodding to his pokemon. Xiu remained on Vince's bed, leering at Olivia while Li Yu and Huang Chen were still preoccupied with each other. He was fairly confident they wouldn't be too much of a hassle at least, and soon emerged showered, dressed, and contest hall ready. "Alright, I think I'm ready, unless there are any customs that I should know about for the contest hall." He suggested. He didn't want to walk in and embarrass himself by not knowing about something, like appropriate dress.

Vince couldn't help but chuckle a little as Olivia suggested that she knew him better. Somehow the thought amused him, or just simply made him feel happy for whatever reason. It felt good to be understood, after all. His amusement didn't last though, as he tried to explain to Olivia what exactly bothered him without giving anything critical away, and Olivia listened to him studiously, clearly trying to understand where he was coming from. She even offered to ask them to leave, eliciting a frustrated sigh from Vince, though it wasn't directed at Olivia by any means. "That is just the problem. I don't want to be rude and ask them to leave when they really... Haven't done anything to earn such dismissal." Vince explained. Even though Lia had the one issue with Xiu Feng, he couldn't very well say that it warranted asking them to leave. Vince was uncomfortable with crowds, but he was also raised to be polite and courteous, so it was an ongoing internal struggle. "Besides, they seem to know more about the contest hall, or contests in general, than we do, so it would be helpful at least to let them give us a tour." Vince suggested. On that note, he allowed the conversation to drop so that Olivia could shower, and in turn allow him to follow suit once she was done.

Xiu gave Olivia a steely look as the pinkette laughed at her, grumbling as she lowered her head down to her paws and pointedly tore her gaze from the Olivia with a huff of indignation. Just because she and Vince had been traveling together didn't mean she was trusted. After all, there were many things about Vince that she didn't know yet. Vince knew that she was still a liability, didn't he? Xiu Feng sure hoped so. The last thing she wanted was for Vince to drop his guard over a pair of pretty blue eyes and cherry blossom hair. In fact, Xiu was getting pretty annoyed with how distracted Vince seemed, now that he'd been spending so much time with Olivia. He hadn't been training nearly as much as he should have been, and instead he seemed to be sightseeing and playing buddy buddy. Didn't he know that humans outside of his bloodline couldn't be trusted? Hadn't he learned that by now? He had already been through two painful lessons in his past, Xiu wasn't keen on making it a third with Olivia.

Eventually Vince returned, dressed in his usual attire all washed and ready to head out, as long as there wasn't some dress code against leather that he wasn't aware of. Thankfully, Olivia insisted that she believed they were fine, and they made their way back out into the lobby where they found the twins already waiting for them. Leo greeted them with particular enthusiasm that Vince couldn't help but find suspicious, even though from what he'd seen of Leo so far it was just in his nature. Something about it really just rubbed Vince the wrong way, but he did his best not to let it show. "I suppose we're ready as we'll ever be." He remarked, following Leo and Lia out of the center and towards the center of town where the contest hall loomed. It certainly seemed like the right building, flashy and ornate as the contests held inside it likely were. Leo continued to give their tour with flare that Vince still found dubious, especially since he admitted that contests weren't his thing. "Why so enthusiastic about them then?" Vince commented, trying to withhold the irritation threatening to spill into his tone. Leo insisted he simply wanted to hype the place up, but to Vince it just seemed like the bluenette was trying to draw attention to their little group, something Vince would prefer to avoid.

It was only more irksome when Leo winked at Vince and promised that his fanfare was free of charge, causing the dragon tamer to roll his eyes. "How kind of you." This time he couldn't help the sarcasm, and begin making his way inside. The whole building was quite abuzz with activity, people trying to register for upcoming contest time slots or getting tickets for the shows, buying merchandise or products for their pokemon, there even seemed to be some kind of baking stand set up. It was a little overwhelming, much like Mauville had been, but with less space. Lia tugged on Vince's sleeve and pointed out a magazine stand, with booklets that contained tips, tricks, and pointers for contest beginners. It piqued Vince's interest certainly, after all, he did want to see what all the hubub was about and what was involved in the making of a contest. The booklet would help some, but actually watching a show would probably be a better learning experience. "It seems like they'll be having a show starting soon, should we get tickets?" Vince suggested, and Lia nodded enthusiastically. She clearly wanted Vince to experience this first hand, hoping he would like it.

Vince wasn't bothered that Olivia didn't really seem to have an answer for his problem. Unfortunately there just wasn't a good solution; the story of his life. He did smile when she suggested they would likely be alone again after the contest though, and certainly hoped that was the case.

Meeting up with the twins again, or specifically Leo with his wide smile and overdramatic tendencies, reinforced this hope. The bluenette even acted completely oblivious to the fact that his behavior was irksome to Vince, which of course annoyed Vince even more. At least Leo seemed to settle down after that. After all, they had already moved into the contest hall, and perhaps he was tactfully choosing to let the hall speak for itself until Vince asked if they should get tickets to a show. When Leo pointed out that a tough contest was starting, Vince nodded, taking the suggestion, and with no objection from Olivia or Lia, they got in line. The tickets were surprisingly on the expensive side, but Vince was prepared to pay for himself and Olivia until the clerk had a change of heart, explaining a special promotion for the 300-305th tickets. It seemed like a stoke of luck, but Lia, knowing exactly what had occurred, shot Leo a disapproving look hidden from the eyes of their new acquaintances. There were other ways you could have handled our lack of funds. She pointed out telepathically, but Leo seemed too busy flaunting himself as a good luck charm to Olivia. Vince felt himself bristle a little at the bluenette's antics, rolling his eyes and shaking his head; especially when Leo suggested he had helped with their battle. Like that was possible. There was no such thing as luck. Thankfully, Olivia just played along, insisting they'd been managing fine on their own, so she'd only think about his offer of letting him stick around. She was far kinder than Vince ever would be. He wasn't sure he could even politely respond to the bluenette's boyish behavior. It reminded him too much of Jian, traits that he wanted to just shut down in Leo immediately. I think you're pushing your luck, mister. Lia insisted, pushing Leo to make her point, and getting them through the doors of the stadium.

With free "promotional" tickets in hand, Vince returned his Pokémon to save room before the four of them took their seats, Vince putting some distance between himself and Leo–more importantly distance between Leo and Olivia–by sitting between the two girls. Having Lia sitting between himself and Leo didn't stop the bluenette from talking to Vince though, much to his exasperation. Thankfully the conversation topic was easy. "I'm certainly interested in seeing what contests are like." Vince clarified. Excitement was not really the right word; that was something he felt when he was certain something would be good. He wasn't as familiar with contests, so he couldn't really judge whether it would be a good experience or bad, therefore he felt neutral, but curious. Interested, but held his reservations. Lia on the other hand, was on the edge of her seat, her eyes glued to the stage. It was kind of cute, in a sort of innocent and childish way. Vince shot Leo a curious glance however as he asserted that the contestants would be providing a good show. "What makes you say that?" He asked, confused. All he could see was the contestants lined up on stage, how that was at all indicative of a good show was beyond Vince.

However, the lights soon dimmed, and a punk metal guitar riff started to play while the spotlights moved around to try and excite the audience before the appeal round started with the introductions of the pokemon. First a trainer named Travis sent out his gliscor, which flew in a loopty-loop, accenting the cape it was wearing and catching the light on it's glossy carapace before charging up it's claw with poisonous energy and bringing it down hard on stage with a thunderous SMACK. The audience ate it up. The contest was off to a pretty great start, and even Vince looked rather surprised by how well executed the maneuvers were, clapping along politely with the crowd in applause. He wasn't moved to cheering, hooting, or hollering though, unlike some diehard fans below them. Next up was a girl named Samantha, who let out her pokemon but it was hard to tell what it was at first because the pokeball also released a lot of mist. "What is that? I've never seen a pokeball do that before." Vince asked, his brow furrowing from his newly puzzled state. Soon Samantha's Makuhita came out of the mist, fists swinging wildly to execute a well placed close combat attack with an invisible enemy. That on top of it's yellow bow tied around it's arm like a tough looking armband and glossy sheen, it garnered even more cheers than the gliscor before it.

Just as Vince began wondering if the opening could be topped, a friendly looking young man with glasses stepped forward. He seemed a little out of place with his kind and bookish demeanor, but he was clearly a crowd favorite, sending out his trusty Axew with an explosive combination of special effects from the seal, the boxing gloves the little dragon wore, and the added effect of utilizing a rock smash attack to come out with a bang, it's glossy scales seeming to glisten with sweat from the shampooing it'd received backstage. The axew looked so super tough that the crowd went absolutely ballistic. Even Vince grinned widely, leaning forward in his seat and clapping loudly, giving a sharp whistle in appreciation. He was clearly impressed, or maybe he was biased towards the only dragon type so far on stage. Either way, he had obviously found someone to root for. That could be me.... Vince couldn't help but think subconsciously, his eyes glinting with a spark of excitement at the prospect. There was still one more contestant left however, and the crowd eventually quieted once again for their introductions. Some trainer named Mike who looked like some kind of rock band fan. His shirt didn't quite fit over his beer belly, and his ponytail looked a little on the greasy and unwashed side, but his electabuzz did fairly well for it's entrance. It's fur had been shampooed so that it was sticking up all over the place, giving it a wild look about it, accenting it's wild charge attack out of another explosive effect from the seal on it's pokeball. Unfortunately it was a little underwhelming compared to the other entrances, especially since the axew before it had already used the same seal.

With the appeal round over with, the performance round started under way as the contestants waved to the crowd and moved backstage while judges revealed their scores. It seemed that whoever had the highest score got to go first, and the next highest would follow, so on and so forth. The contestants lines up as such, with Todd being first. They followed their performance up nicely with a rock throw, keeping with their tough rock theme. Following them was Samantha and her makuhita, who ran over to the axew and gave it a good couple of slaps to the dragon's face to try and steal it's thunder. "What?! Can it do that?! That has to be cheating!" Vince objected. A man behind him laughed. "This is a tough contest, if that puny little lizard can't take a little roughing up, then it shouldn't be here!" Vince scowled and muttered something along the lines of "Dragon, not lizard. There is a difference." Not that the man could hear him. The judges didn't seem to think there was any problem, and even gave the makuhita a slightly higher score than the axew, much to Vince's disappointment, but he was sure the little dragon could pull through in the end. After all, things had only just started.

It occurred that perhaps he aught to look at the pamphlet Lia had handed him for more information on just what was happening. There was a list of suggested moves for different contest types, but also mentioned that some moves when used in a contest setting tended to have certain effects on other pokemon, or could be improvised a bit around the typical format to get some extra appeal. For instance, what happened with the makuhita's signature smellingsalts attack. Vince supposed that made sense, even though it seemed a little underhanded. It seemed that Samantha knew it too, with the way she was smirking as she and her makuhita walked back and past Todd.

Next up was Travis and his gliscor again, neither of who seemed too happy about having been outshone in the appeal round by Todd and Samantha. Now it was time for some payback. With the two contestants still walking backstage to take their places, Travis had his gliscor use earthquake to rock the ground, causing both contestants to trip and fall as they walked. It certainly made them look very weak, and the judges even deducted points from them for the trip up. These contests were brutal! Vince was absolutely stunned by the turn out, but it made for a great show. Feeling satisfied with his payback, Travis and gliscor made their way back, only for Mike and his electabuzz to come barreling forward and performing a coordinated sliding low kick out on stage. The crowd went nuts again. It was quite a great way to finish the round, earning lots of points from the judges.

Lia frowned as Leo argued with her telepathically about the ethics of his actions, but he did have a point. They weren't really going to be able to get in without any money, so it was either this or missing the contest entirely. Maybe if you let us actually interact with the human world, we would have money of our own to spend, and we wouldn't have this problem. She insisted stubbornly, even though it meant admitting that there wasn't a better way to handle it now. Instead, she pushed him into the stadium irritably to prevent him from further making comments to Olivia that would intentionally irk Vince. In spite of their little mental quarrel, the twins soon sat down together with Vince and Olive to prepare for the contest. Vince answered Leo's questions to the best of his ability, but he couldn't really say he was excited for the contest when he had no idea what to expect, or if he'd even like it. Leo reassured him that contests were entertaining to watch even if you weren't a fan though, and Vince was inclined to believe him, but that didn't mean he would be excited. He was curious however as Leo seemed certain that they would get a good show, but when the music cued, Leo just insisted Vince would see for himself, and Vince shrugged, fine with the answer and happy to end the small talk in favor of watching the show.

Still, he couldn't help but comment and ask questions whenever there was something he didn't understand. First, there was the matter of seals, which thankfully Olivia explained for Vince. The dragon tamer leaned in to listen closely while she clarified the function of seals in a contest, nodding along in thought. He'd never heard of such things, but it certainly made sense. Outside of contests their function was little more than flashy, but in here, appearance was everything. "Interesting... Perhaps they sell some here in the accessory shop. We should browse after the contest." Vince suggested, turning his attention back to the show. For the most part, he was so engrossed in the contest that he didn't notice Olivia watching him, but he did appreciate her consoling when the makuhita and gliscor roughed up the axew he'd been favoring, glancing her way and giving a small smile.

The next round though, Vince was confused when all of the contestants started again. "Wait... Aren't they out of order? I thought Todd went first?" Vince commented. Had they gotten confused about the line up? The next few rounds of the performance were just as brutal as the first, if not more so. Both Samantha's makuhita and Mike's electabuzz suffered heavy losses after performing such appealing moves because it left them open to being easily startled, which both Todd and Travis took advantage of. Then the third round, Travis was showing off with gliscor again and soaking in the spotlight, clearly happy that it had managed to maintain it's position and thwart Mike's electabuzz, but then Todd went to go on next, Mike's angry electabuzz charged in with a giga impact, and Todd expertly instructed Axew to show off it's toughness by guarding against the strong attack. With it's recklessness, the electabuzz managed to earn some appeal back and startle the others, but Axew lost no points for being quick to act and toughing out the blow. Samantha's Makuhita was able to steal some of electabuzz's thunder using smellingsalts on it like it had done with Todd's Axew, but electabuzz was out cold and the crowd found it more humorous than anything else.

Sensing that the others were out to get it, Travis had gliscor hunker down below the stadium with a dig to prevent it from being startled further, but with this being the last round and electabuzz being out, Todd had Axew just perform an appealing rock smash, knowing that Samantha would likely use Close Combat again since it was safe from being startled this round. Then it was all over, and the judges tallied the scores from both rounds. In the end, Todd managed to win even though he hadn't performed the best in the performance round, and it was all thanks to his amazing appeal round scores. Vince beamed with pride and watched as Todd accepted his ribbon, placing it on his Axew and thanked the crowd. Even as they exited the auditorium, Vince couldn't stop smiling, the gears in his mind obviously turning. "I want to enter a contest." He said decisively. "I think I understand most of the components, I just need to get some seals for my pokeballs and study this guide to see what moves and pokemon I can use. I could buy some accessories too from the--"

As Vince chattered away about his new plan, he slowed to a stop as he could have sworn he heard someone laughing at him in a condescending manner, and it wasn't Leo. "Oh, sorry, don't let me interrupt." A man spoke up when he noticed Vince had quieted and was watching him evenly. The angled, sharp features on his face and the white princely outfit he wore while holding the glossy alolan vulpix in his lap made the pompous air about him feel excessively thick. "Well? Do go on. Did you just wake up today and decide you'd be a coordinator? How cute." He snickered, eyeing where Vince had exited from. "Oh wait, didn't you just came from a tough contest? Well, no wonder you think coordinating is a breeze." He sniffed, brushing his long platinum blonde side bangs away from his face. "What?" Vince's grip tightened into a balled fist, and seeing his reaction made the snide mystery man smirk. "Any riffraff off the streets can go on stage and act like a savage, but the real talent is in beauty contests. Everyone knows that. After all, only pedigree pokemon groomed to perfection, and fed gourmet nutrient dense pokeblocks like my little darlings, could stand a chance at winning." He crooned, scratching the vulpix below the chin.

Vince's jaw was set. Here he'd been excited about trying something new and interesting, now this guy just had to go and ruin it for no reason other than flaunting his arrogance. Vince had never wanted to put someone in his place so badly. "Well, then it shouldn't be any trouble if I entered a beauty contest, would it? Why bother trying to belittle me if I'm no threat?" He asked coolly. "I don't want you making a mockery of this contest by going up there and embarrassing yourself and other competitors. Just look at you. Leather bound, muscular, brutish... You'd better stick to your cool and tough contests. They definitely seem more your speed." He sighed, standing and brushing himself off. "Just don't kid yourself into believing that you're a real coordinator." With that, the snob moved to head for his changing room, leaving Vince to stew.

Lia's frown only grew deeper as Leo argued his point. She wouldn't address his comment on interacting with humans being a terrible idea, it wasn't worth getting into with him at this point. The rest, however, she would argue. We could have gotten jobs. It wouldn't be so bad. I know you can earn money by winning these contests after all, that works as a job. She explained, though she was quickly distracted with her idea and forgot what the focus of their argument was. You could have used me as a contest pokemon! Oh my gosh, could you imagine? My feathers sparkling in a nice costume, all glossy and soft from shampoo, and then the crowd cheering as I made a grand entrance with a WOOSH! Her eyes sparkled just thinking about it.

Meanwhile, Vince was making a mental shopping list of items he would need to procure for a contest with Olivia's help. Though he had to pause as Olivia insisted they needed to get souvenirs too, chuckling and shaking his head. "I'm not sure what use I would have of knick-knacks, but I will happily get you one, if you'd like." He offered. If he had the choice, he'd rather his souvenir be a shiny new contest ribbon. Of course, in order to get one of those, he'd need to soak up as much information on contests as he could. In order to do that, he continued to ask Olivia the occasional question as they popped up, such as the order in which the pokemon were performing since he'd noticed they'd changed from the last round. Olivia clarified for him at least, and that explanation would probably save him some embarrassment on stage. He felt mortified thinking about how things could have been if he'd argued with other contestants on stage about the order they were supposed to go in.

With his favorite contestant coming out on top, Vince was pumped up and raring to get out there and try a contest for himself, going on about what he planned to do to prepare until they were so rudely interrupted. Vince glowered at the rude stranger, not sure why the man had decided he needed to rain on their parade. Arrogance, perhaps? Or the need to feel superior? Regardless, the Yazi were a clan of action, being told they couldn't only spurred them further to prove someone wrong, and Vince had never wanted to put someone in their place as badly as he did now. His death stare lightened with amusement as Olivia spun around and insisted passionately that he shouldn't listen to the stranger, giving him a pep talk that could have whipped a losing football team back into shape. A gentle smile crossed his lips. Even though he wasn't disheartened by the man's insults, he still appreciated Olivia's support. The fierce determination in her expression was something to be admired, and perhaps more. After all, it was kind of cute how worked up she was getting over this, a side Vince hadn't really seen of her before.

Vince blinked, reeling back in his own mind and realizing what he had just thought. "Oh, er...." His voice cracked, and he cleared his throat, mostly to hide the red tint to his cheeks until it went away. "Don't worry, I know people like him are not worth listening to." He reassured her, regaining some of his composure with a small smile. It seemed they had another observer of the conflict however, telepathically chiming in her two cents. Vince glanced over to see a very elegant looking gardevoir making her way towards them, unlike any he had seen before. Her features comprised soft pastel blue, purple, and gold colors, her hair done up in elegant loops while her dress shimmered with sparkling accents underneath her shawl. She was a dazzling sight to behold, the epitome of a beauty contest pokemon. "You wish to partake in the upcoming beauty contest, yes?" Her eyes appraised Vince as well as the legends masking their presence. Lia tensed as she felt the gardevoir's eyes fall on her, but she sensed no ill will. Their secret was safe with her.

"Please, allow me to offer my assistance." She gave a polite bow. Vince was... surprised. "Why help us?" He asked, trying not to let the utter suspicion that he felt show through in his tone. He failed. Still, the gardevoir gave a wan but understanding smile. "That unfortunate young man is in need of a lesson. Besides, everyone likes a good underdog." She chuckled, briefly raising a hand to her mouth to cover her smile. Every move she made seemed so effortlessly elegant, it was almost mesmerizing. Vince was certain she knew her way around a beauty contest, but was still wary. "I want to use my own pokemon, but I will listen to any advice you're willing to give me." Vince said cautiously. He promised to listen, but he would make no guarantee to do exactly as she said. He would listen. He trusted his instincts above anything else after all. "It will be difficult to win with an inexperienced pokemon." She warned, but Vince only nodded. "Perhaps, but I would rather lose with my own pokemon knowing that I gave my best, than win by cheating with a pokemon of your calibre." Vince insisted, earning another smile out of the gardevoir. "Ah... I had a feeling you were the honorable sort. Good. Which pokemon were you thinking of using then?" Vince hesitated. He hadn't really.... Thought about that yet. After all, he'd been planning on entering a tough contest until just recently. Most of his dragons fit the tough category, but he wasn't really sure which would do well in a beauty contest.

The gardevoir smiled patiently at Vince. "Perhaps, do you have any ice or water type pokemon? Typically those kinds of moves are seen as quite beautiful." Vince thought to the kyurem he had and immediately dismissed ice as a type to work with. Not only was the kyurem untrained, but he couldn't imagine it would do well in a beauty contest. It wasn't exactly a pretty pokemon, not to mention large and dangerous. Water however... "I have a kingdra... Would that do?" Vince flipped through the booklet Lia gave him, looking up the moves that his kingdra had. Hydro pump was considered a beauty move, and he also knew blizzard and dragon pulse, which were also considered beautiful moves. "Yes, I think that will do just fine. Now that you've chosen a pokemon, perhaps we should go shop for outfits?" The gardevoir suggested, guiding the group to the clothing shop in the side wing of the contest hall. "Yes, I was hoping to find a few things in here, though I'm not really sure where to begin... I've never really dressed my pokemon before." Vince admitted. "Mm~ Well we can dress your pokemon too I suppose." She said coyly, causing Vince to quirk a brow. "Too? I thought that was why we had come here. Is there another reason?" "Well, I suppose not if you wanted to go into the contest dressed as you currently are." The gardevoir suggested, casting a glance back at Vince while her words sank in and Vince looked over himself. "Ah.... Perhaps you have a point." He muttered, scratching his head. He hadn't even thought about his own clothes...
